A wonderful location; clean updated facilities; comfy beds; top-notch staff ~ what more could you ask for ?! We were happy, happy, happy from the time we arrived to departure ... well done Westin Nova Scotian !
Awesome stay as usual despite covid restrictions.
A place with a history behind, good tobe there.
Couldn’t really ask for more. Bright airy room, with views of the waterfront and island lighthouse. Comfortable cosy bed, functional bathroom. AC and an openable window! …
Parking charges should not be hidden. Staff should let know the customer about parking or any additional charges that are to occur. I was not told about parking charges.though der is nothing wrong in paying the parking charges but atleast i should have known when i cheked in.
I enjoyed the hotel and the room was lovely everything we needed but the doors in the hall kept being banged shut. The pool was below my expectations and dated the hotel, tiles needed a clean and maybe clean the deck between bookings
The rooms are very small! The hot tub only had a few jets and they were not very powerful! Parking was expensive! The cost was a expensive for this hotel! I would not recommend it with these high prices! Not good value !
Considering that the hotel is being operated by a skeleton staff to keep the place in the black, was a job well done. Sure some things were far from perfect, but the employees made up for the less perfect things. I enjoyed seeing the …
I booked this place for my anniversary since I've had great experiences with Marriott in the past. The location downtown is great but this place was a little bit of a let down. This place was formerly the Nova Scotian and later taken over by the Westin brand. They're trying to combine the visual aesthetic of the original with the broader brand and ruining both in the process. The room was pretty standard, but the bathroom was very small and cramped. The bathtub had rust stains and the water pressure from the shower was minimal at best (although this may have been a function of being up on floor 11). The bed was comfortable though, and I slept very well. Our room was on the harbour side so it was a pretty good view. We decided to try out the pool and was quickly disappointed. The pool itself was frigid, too cold to stay in for more than a minute or two. The whirlpool/hot tub was more of a warm swirl. Only one jet was working and it seemed like it has been running for 15 years and now too tired to really push the water out anymore. The showers in the changing room were only slightly warmer than the water in the pool. To top off our stay, while checking out, I was asked if I would like it charged to the card used for the booking. I said yes, but they still ended up charging the card I used to pay for the parking. Not a big deal, but it just felt careless.
Location was great, close to the harbour/nightlife. Rooms were subpar, we booked a traditional queen room, we ended up with a double bed in a shoebox size room. Our room was supposed to have a queen bed, and a chair/table as well and it did not have that, and it had a double bed. When calling the front desk to ask they were rude and hung up the phone when we questioned whether we were in the right room.
I knew this place as one of the decent hotels in the city. However, my experience was mediocre. They used the pandemic as an excuse for not to offer daily housekeeping. As instructed, I called them one day in advance when I needed cleaning. In both times, no one showed up. I followed up, but the personnel was gone. I asked for extra towels etc., they brought it and I did my own cleaning. Other than that, there's nothing worthy of noting about this place. Next time, I'll go somewhere else.
A great place to stay! The hotel Is easily the hub of Halifax
From the moment I was ushered in the front door to my reluctant departure five days later, I was treated with the highest level of courtesy and professionalism, infused with the famous Maritime friendliness and generosity. My stay was …
Really had a comfortable room slept well..excellent location..enjoyed the restaurant for breakfast on two occasions....Practicing Covid rules masks to be warn and no housekeeping services during your stay but if you need towels or coffee etc. Just ask at the front desk...enjoyed ourselves very much and service couldn't have been better....
The Westin Nova Scotian has gone above and beyond, very friendly, helpful and efficient. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The requests are quick to accommodate. We will be staying with them again, and recommend you do to! While their …
Room was very clean and furniture was comfortable. Bathroom fixtures need to be updated but work fine. Only issue was that I paid for a "Premium Ocean View" upgrade and did get a room on the harbour side of the building but it was only on …
We are staying 3 days in a gem of Halifax. Love the historic building, friendly staff and comfortable rooms. They are not kidding..the beds are heavenly and the sumptuous towels, robe, even a small vial of lavender oil to relax after walking for hours was delightful. Sandwich is the bar and breakfast were above standard. Well situated near boardwalk market and Via station.
We booked thru Expedia and overall the price, and staff was good. The room we got, the carpet was stained and there were strands of hair on the bed. It said on the hotel website that there was going to be complimentary bottled water in the room and there wasn’t any.
Always a great hotel to stay at. Old school charm with modern amenities. Very comfortable rooms with the best beds anywhere.
Great location, clean, great customer service and charming character.
Bath tub was prrtty grimy, bed was comfy, breakfast was sub-par, and staff seemed really nice. All-in-all..Not much to write home about
Great time. Would recommend to others.
Used “suite awards” when booking and notified that they could accommodate... then was told upon arrival I had to pay to get a Suite Award. Instead of a suite upgrade they changed my room from city to harbour view. Big deal, as I wanted the …
The location is very good and the employees are very friendly.
Downgraded room from an upgraded room with no explanation. Charged for parking when told we could come and go as we please. Small dirty room, no shampoo. Terrible customer service.
Staff was rude I had an issue with my room the smoke alarm was beeping like the battery was low and the front desk didn’t care. I could not sleep all Night due to this and nothing was done about it
I was an chaperone on a school trip with seven teens. The staff was able to provide 4 rooms close in proximity. We were all impressed by the friendliness of the staff even though there were some renovations in their immediate space. We were …
I don't recommend this hotel at all. The charge was $300 a day, it didn't include breakfast, no view, shower curtain and carpet smelled badly. The right price for this hotel and service is below $80
Great place to stay. The gentleman that greeted us was very informative on places to eat and visit while we were there.
Fabulous central location immediately leading to all downtown attractions and sightseeing opportunities within walking distance of the very best Halifax has to offer.
If you are looking for reasonably priced hotel in the downtown Halifax area along the Waterfront, look no further. It has both charm and class, staff were also great!
Hotel staff is friendly. Hotel is old and tired. Rooms are clean but toilet was dirty and carpets are frayed.
We thoroughly enjoyed our night at the Westin. We got a great deal and were impressed with the comfy beds, clean stylish room, and pool with safely set up Covid protocols!
Rooms was ok, but pool was dirty. A magic eraser could make your pool edges a lot cleaner. I was scrapping slim off the side of the pool. Cameras are needed in the pool as a guest was naked in there. I would not recommend this hotel and I have 10 years of hotel experience.
Older hotel with a few quirks. Water in the bathroom ran very slowly.
Disappointing wouldn't recommend or stay at this location again
Absolutely beautiful hotel in a great location. Good was great.
This was a quarantine hotel and we were not informed of this at time of booking (3 weeks ago). We strongly feel that we should have been informed of this. …
Kids were using the hotel elevator as an amusement park, and staff or security didn¿t stop them. Our bathrooms were dirty, the floors were not swept, there was hair in the tub, and the toilet hasnt been wiped down.
While the Westin isn't the most luxurious hotel in Halifax, it is the one with the most history, with such a cool story. The hotel is kept super well, and all the rooms are great. The views from the rooms are all spectacular and the prices are competitive. I have stayed in the Westin many times (most recently December 2020), and will stay again!
Clean lobby, good covid toticols
I've left a list of complaints with the hotel. Staff was good but hotel was weak on several issues. - room seemed less than clean …
First time visiting Halifax and we were really looking forward to our stay. We choose the Westin due to location but also because we are Marriott Bonvoy members are this entitles us to perks like complementary upgrades. When we checked in, they were unable to provide a complementary upgrade, as they said none were available. They weren’t even apologetic about it and didn’t bring it up until I asked about. So we went to the assigned room. The hallways on the 5th floor smell like years of smoke is stuck in the carpet - unpleasant to say the least. We got to our room to realize it was one with adjoining doors to the other adults in our party. We wanted a little more privacy that that, so I went downstairs to ask if they could provide me a different room. After being visibly irritated with me, she provided me a room on the second floor. Before moving I decided to check this new room - and glad I did. It’s basically a dungeon. The room may be one of the darkest most depressing rooms I’ve seen, and it has a small window that looks out over the roof top - so all you can see are grey skies and grey shingles covered in dirty and moss. Oh - and another hallway that smelt of stale smoke from years past. I’m not sure if the person in charge was aware of this and assigned it to punish me for daring to ask for a new room, or if it was really just the only space available she could provide - impossible to know. Either way, not what I would expect for the Westin. So I went back down to just resign myself to the original room I was given. I unplugged the fridge due to it being making a loud high pitched rattling, and will hope and pray that these adjoining doors provide the reasonable expectation of privacy and sound isolation. So far we have noticed that the toilets flush so loud you can hear them through the walls - so that’s a fun perk - cause I definitely wanted to know when my neighbour was using the bathroom. While downstairs waiting to let them know I would just keep the original room I watched one gentleman argue about not being given the Harbour room he had booked (and them not wanting to make that right) and another family return because their breakfast tickets had been forgotten. The staff were working their best to solve these problems, but definitely not hospitable about it. I saw more than my share of eye rolls and heard many frustrated tones. Maybe we all just caught them on a bad day - customer service isn’t always easy. But given the brand of the Westin I sure did expected a lot better. On the positive - we had breakfast in the lobby upon arrival and our server was amazing (as was the food). They are going a good job with covid protocols and holding their guests to them (so everything feels clean and safe). Our hotel room seems spacious enough for our few nights here. Air conditioner works well and isn’t too loud. City view from the 5th floor is alright (if you overlook the cops dealing with the tent city in the park), and the Smokey hallway smell doesn’t transfer into the rooms. Bed seems fine - nothing special, but does the job (not exceptionally comfortable - but hopefully won’t cause back pain in the middle of the night). Room was clean. However, based on the service I received, and many of the other quirks, I would never return, nor would I recommend.
Me and my family checked in around 1:30 am on 19/August/2021 after long drive. On the way to our room we noticed outside of every room except ours an empty chair. Try to watch current news and Noticed the TV is not working . Call the front desk to report it and they offer us free parking. Ask the front desk why is chairs outside of rooms and an employe named prawn said they are accommodating students and chairs are to leave food for them. He assured they are not in isolation. My wife is a nurse and she said ,they must be For gusts who in (Covid-19) isolation. Call again front desk to check again and luckily this time we got the manager and he confirmed the hotel being used by students whose in isolation. Me and my son has asthma and we wish we knew this hotel was used for guests whose in isolation. We choose this hotel knowing they will be honest and upfront but the treatment and lie we got from Mr prawn at the front desk is Unacceptable! WILL NOT REFER ANYONE!!!!!!!!
Great place to stay. Staff ate fantastic food amazing rooms very clean. Great job guys will be back
The Westin have great employees who understand hospitality. The breakfast is so good at The Seaport Social, as is the evening menu.
My daughter and I spent a pleasant weekend in this grand spacious hotel with old world charm but updated with great deco looks in the bar and lobby bistro, also has a delightful pool. This hotel is perfectly located close to all city …
Recently we had one of our best weekends ever in Halifax. Staying at the Westin was convenient for walking the boardwalk and close to a number of great restaurants. The staff were friendly and efficient. A historic hotel that is modern and comfortable.
GOOD LOCATION HELPFUL,FRIENDLY STAFF EASY CHECK IN AND CHECK OUT …
Had a terrific stay at the Westin in Halifax. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. The location was great - right downtown by the water, and close to a Loblaws and NSLC. I would definitely stay here again!
Comfy bed but we asked that the BLACK mold to be removed from shower surround but still was there when we returned from supper after asking staff if they could clean. Not much soundproofing and could hear pool elevator going up and down all …
Was part of a wedding there. The venue was quite disorganized, was late finishing the setup for the ceremony, guests ended up helping with that. An adult stayed there that weekend and left their used, smelly gear in the hallway on the 4th …
Although I find the sheets always very rough, the rooms are clean and the staff is very responsive. The rooms have always been comfortable with great AC, and when we requested a room with a large closet, the Westin Nova Scotian really …
If you want to be double billed great place to stay. Even after they admit it it and several follow up calls they still have not given me my money back...
I stayed 3 nights, and not one thing was bad about my experience. Check in was seamless, all my room preferences/requests were filled before I arrived, the room was super clean and the bed was very comfortable. A couple of things I would recommend changed: there should be towels in the pool area, and when ordering room service, they should be upfront about the 8 dollar room service delivery charge. I will definitely be staying again the next time I'm in Halifax!
We got a Superior King room and, honestly, it was underwhelming. The room and bathroom were small (I know it's an old building, but still), the water pressure in the shower was really low, no fans in the bathrooms, and parking in their outdoor, above-ground back-of-the-hotel lot costs an additional 20 dollars per day. 5, 8 bucks? Sure. 20? Come on. Signage indicating that only 2 persons or 1 family should ride the elevator was posted on the parking level, but not the main lobby bank when we were there. This resulted in more than one uncomfortable interaction with other guests trying to get on with us. The upside? It was clean. As a staycation destination during COVID we got a good rate and our room overlooked the Halifax Harbour and George's Island. The free WiFi was good enough to stream some Netflix. I won't pretend the whole thing was a disaster by any means, and if they offered the best rate I'd consider it, but we've got so many great options in downtown Halifax and beyond that the offer would need to be compelling. Your mileage may vary!
Great room service. Lovely views.
Staff was very friendly but there was not enough staff nor food/convenience items available due to covid. Pool didn’t have a deep end. Location is EXCELLENT- right next to boardwalk and also grocery store and within walking distance of stores and restaurants. Baby crib provided was pretty outdated.
Had a great stay. great staff. Very clean. Amazing view of the harbour and the lighthouse from the room window.
The stay was nice, it is very close to downtown and the harbour, you don’t really need a car as long as your staying in Halifax cuz everything is walkable. The staff were very friendly and helpful with everything and whenever we requested something it was done in no time.
We are always happy to stay here. The hotel has everything you need. It is well situated close to restaurants and downtown. …
Great place, centrally located to many nearby restaurants, the historic properties, the waterfront with seafood restaurants, nextdoor to historic places such as Pier 21. Easy accessible if you take the VIA Rail train, with the train …
This is a famous big hotel! But third party delivery is forbidden here! So this was sad news when you find out the food is expensive and not in your taste.
On the plus side: This hotel is in a great location, within easy walking distance to pretty much everything. All of the staff we met were very pleasant to deal with and helpful, and the food was excellent. …
The service is outstanding! We have travelled (precovid) to various places in the world on many occasions and the experience at this hotel stands out among the rest! We chose this location because it is downtown, great price & parking and walking distance to everything! My sister in law was picking out “the” dress for her big day and the staff made it so special! Roisin sent a charcuterie board & champagne with a special note to her— what a special/thoughtful gesture! The staff at the bar/restaurant provided the best service from our cocktails in the evening to our morning coffee! Absolutely outstanding service! Spread kindness during these trying times— book at the Westin! Don’t second guess yourself, ever! Cheers!
I would not recommend it.
Everything was excellent, the only thing was that the 1ers server on the reception (a man without her) he didn't want to give a room, and the told me that everything was busy until September. Then y told with another receptionist and she …
I stayed for a single night but had a great visit. Hotel was clean, comfortable and accommodating. Staff were friendly, courteous and helpful.
The overall experience was good, but we were awakened in the early hours of the morning (3 AM). By another guest down the hall shouting and banging on a door.
My stay was connected with a concert I had organized for one of the ballrooms. Everything went perfectly and the hotel staff - from top to bottom - were extremely helpful. The room I stayed in was lovely and I had several meals in the hotel …
Great location and very accommodating staff. Our first room smelt like cigarette smoke but they were quick to change our room. The only downside was the bathrooms are quite small. Apart from that I would stay here again!
Enjoyed my stay, room very comfortable, bed excellent, and nice view of the park. Staff friendly, relaxed quiet atmosphere.
The hotel is beautiful and the location is perfect as it is walking distance to most everything. Parking is expensive given there is a lot right next door for far cheaper. The pool is nice and large but it's cold and the hot tub was merely …
Friendly staff, beautiful hotel, close to lots of restaurants. The rooms were nicely updated and there were lovely touches in the room (like Starbucks coffee and great soap) will be going back for sure!
Delightful staff, exceptional food! But they could use to stay on top of housekeeping, and the comfort of mattresses and condition of the bed frames. When you book the room and ask for a water view, make certain you reiterate that request …
the service industry no longer should have service in the title.
had a best time only 1 issuse was breakfest other then that we enyoyed are seleves
I choose the Westin because of how accessible it is to everything downtown. My 5 year old daughter was with us and the sinks in the bathroom were so high she couldn't reach the taps. The sink was very high for me as well and I'm 5' 6". …
Travelers Stay away from WEST INN NOVA SCOTIAN, BE CAREFULL WHEN YOU BOOK INTO THIS HOTEL. BE SURE TO HAVE A GHOST EXPERIENCE. I had a horrible experience with West Inn Nova Scotian. I flew in from Calgary to stay for 5 nights but had to check out of the hotel on the first night itself. Very poorly managed and very rude staff at the front desk. I was shocked to see badly used soiled linen, sweaty and smelling pillowcases, stained washrooms, etc. Front office person Jesse without a doubt needs solid customer training, you ask anything as a guest and their answer will a BIG NO, Jesse is very rude and can you imagine front office person addressing you with wide open unzipped pants, I had to remind him to zip his pants on, that careless is the front desk of West Inn Nova Scotian. I raised my concerns next day with Michelle, supposedly a customer care manager and she said point-blank nothing more can be done to improve but you are welcome to check out if you do not like the way we function. I checked out at that moment because I realized nobody in the hotel cares for anything even if you raise a complaint. I told Michelle it was horrible to see used linen and raised my concerns about Mr. Jesse and his rude attitude last night. She said sorry this is the way we function, please feel free to check out if you do not like. West Inn Nova Scotian is a horrible hotel, the hotel needs courteous and resourceful front office staff. Check into West Inn Nova Scotian to have a ultimate worst hotel experience. The perfect example for WHAT A HOTEL SHOULD NOT BE. I GIVE YOU MINUS 5 STAR
Not friendly staff.
many guests were being quarantined at this hotel without informing other guests. no housekeeping services were provided unless asked and we were told we had to clean our own room , but they would provide us with towels and clean bedding if …
Westin Halifax has character, great service, great location and always reasonably priced. Best value for quality hotel stay in Halifax.
We really enjoyed the Westin! The staff and accommodations were amazing. We enjoyed a yummy pub-styled snack at the lounge one evening and a excellent serving of eggs benidict the following morning. The staff were pleasant and welcoming. It …
