We attended Saturday's Ashley Trio benefit concert and we did enjoy good music. However, there's no buffet which we were looking forward to. When we booked our concert ticket, we also reserved for the buffet. We asked the receptionist at the door about the buffet and she said when they serve it will be near the stage. They were supposed to serve at 5:30 pm and it was 6:30 pm already and no one informed us that it will not be served that night and there's no advisory in the website as well. No one seems to know the reason why the buffet was not served. We just ordered food from the bar and the lady who served us informed that they don't have the beef from the menu and only the burgers were available. When the bill came, there were miscalculations though it was corrected. To be better prepared with dinner options, I recommend calling them to inquire and don't rely on their website only or better yet have dinner in your fave restaurant before going to the concert.

Very relaxed atmosphere at Hermann's, one of Victoria's best jazz bars. We came here on a Saturday night and got tickets to check out John Lee Trio (very talented group). Unpretentious place, with decently priced drinks. Good acoustics as well - service is just alright.

Absolutely recommend Hermanns for an evening of live music. You don't have to be a jazz fan to love what they put out. I try to go EVERY time I'm in Victoria. Only thing... booking tix online, they only accept PayPal. PayPal sucks and you need alternatives. I tried calling, emailing and even went there the day before to buy tix, but the volunteer staff were clueless. Sorry, but you are running a business which just about went out of business recently... get a better booking system!!!

Definitely one of the grossest restaurants in the city. The food was incredibly bland, over cooked and overall just the worst experience I've ever had living in Victoria for almost a decade. It's almost like the chef is not even on this planet. If you want to eat sub par food at a price point way to high for what you get, then by all means come here and eat. If you want to eat a well thought out meal, go elsewhere.

This is a gem of a place to watch some of the best music Victoria has to offer. The space is intimate, the sound is great, and the staff are super friendly. Their full bar and kitchen with a decent menu adds to the experience. We saw The Nick La Riviere Band there last night and they absolutely killed. If you get a chance to see them, GO!

Hermann's Upstairs. Had tix for the Groove Kitchen. Website and tix said doors open at 7 . We had to wait. The room itself is small, more dancefloor than seating area. Awkward. CASH Bar only.. There are ATMs. However, once they open the whole area upstairs, it should be okay.

Amazing night out. Great sound, atmosphere, fun performance and incredible music. Big thumbs up for Nick la Riviera & (Paperboys band?). Yummy food, great drinks, big audience so service not immediate but still good timing. Showed up 40 mins before show with no reservations like a large number of people and the performer himself and the club worked very hard to get everyone in, in a seat, and then gave personal thanks to us for our patience! Wonderful evening start to finish. We will be back with friends so they can enjoy it too. Great parking in parkade next door too! 10/10

I love Hermann's. It's a proper jazz joint in the heart of downtown. Staff are friendly, and they bring in a lot of great and unique acta. It's the best jazz joint we have, get out there and support them. And if you're early for a show, why not dip into the Legion nextdoor for an inexpensive drink or two before dinner and/or a show in the club.

Spent a wonderful evening on Mother's Day weekend. Went as a party of three for Maureen Washington's show. The service was outstanding! Special thanks to the lady with the sassy updo. Were were seated in the corner at the back, and towards the end it got rather stuffy. Seeing my mum fanning herself with a leaflet, she brought her a hand-held fan! It was a very thoughtful gesture, and she went out of her way to make our evening most enjoyable. The menu is excellent, atmosphere is superb! An absolute must to visit when in Victoria.

Hermann's is the place to go for live jazz in Victoria. The place is a bit dingy but that adds to the atmosphere. The place is being run by the family after the owner passed away recently and it may cost down if they can't generate enough revenues so it's a good place to support as well

Slow service, got our food before our drinks. Expensive pop, a "large pop" which at most was maybe a medium cost over $3, the got charged for refills. Their chicken could use some serious work, positive note is it is actually chicken not pressed meat. Service was friendly. Food price wise is alright.

Granted that I only tasted one appetizer and one entree, from that small sample I would say that the food is good but nothing special. Still, food is not really the point of such a place, and everything else about Hermann's is truly top notch.

Many spectacular experiences at this joint. Most recently saw the Nick La Riviere Band here, and the music was fantastic. The setting is exactly what you think of when you think of an intimate jazz club. Food is really good for the price too, although a couple of times they've messed up the order of our food (mains before apps) and been required to wait about 15 minutes for drinks. But honestly, you're in this place for the long haul, so the sometimes-off service isn't enough to say "stay away"; this place is a Victoria classic and you gotta stop by if you're a visitor in town.

I have been a faithful patron of Hermann's for many years and I know of the controversial transitions over the past few years since Hermann's death. I love the music and the venue (the only reason this is not a one star review). But I cannot recommend the food or service any longer. The staff are completely overwhelmed during peak hours of ordering and this has been a recurring theme each of the last few times I've been there. The details of our food quality and service shortfalls are many but the problem is clear: There is no one in charge, no one being present and accountable. I was advised that last evening the bartender, Megan, was the senior management person. Megan said she was in charge of 'front of house' but she clearly had her hands full with bar-tending duties - to the point where our group's second bottle of wine was brought over by Megan (not our waitress), thrust into our existing cooler with not so much as a smile or a look before she rushed back to the bar. Hmm. No manager would behave like that and no manager/supervisor should be serving drinks behind the bar. There is simply no one there to account for or develop their staff. As such, it will surprise me if this review gets a response, although I seek one. I WANT to go back to Hermann's and enjoy the level of dining and service that once existed under Susan (previous manager, I believe). I WANT them to do well. We need a place like Hermann's in Victoria. Apparently the head chef was on vacation last night and the sous chef was in charge. This hardly constitutes an excuse for the food and service we tolerated. Very poor.

Although Hermann's didn't open until 1985 you'd swear you were in a vintage 1960's club with the atmosphere and small round tables with candles and chairs facing the stage. Great jazz and blues acts. Be sure to order your tickets in advance.

I'd been meaning to try out Hermann's for several years now and am delighted I finally did this past weekend. All four us had a fabulous time! It is a smaller venue so it made for an intimate experience. The music and atmosphere were outstanding. We didn't want the night to end the four hours we were there flew by. The food was great although they get quite busy so order right away so you're not waiting long. I eagerly await my next visit!

Disappointing first experience. Had a reservation for 6 people and were crammed into a corner with barely room for 4 (had to keep moving chairs to let staff by us). We ordered dinner and were told there a was an hour wait! Ordered anyway because we were hungry and it took 1hr 50 minutes to arrive, actually. After our first drink order no one ever returned to ask if we needed anything else. Music was alright though. Probably would have enjoyed the experience more overall with better service. Ended up leaving early and going to another bar.

Great jazz with eclectic food menu.

My girlfriend and I went on a date here and it was great. We got our tix a head of time. You have to pay in cash at the door, kind of a bummer. We showed up one hour ahead of time in order to get a good seat. If you show up last min you will not get a good seat! The servers were understaffed. The server we had handled being over sat very well but we had long wait times for food and drink. All in all a good experianced and worth it though.

This place is just so unique, it's a shame that every time I go I'm the youngest person there. And I'm not that young! Food is quite good btw, although the menu is limited.

Hermann's is a gem of a spot - one of the closest spots you'll find to a real jazz club in the lower mainland! A great place to come listen to great local talent, and the #1 spot on the island to catch international artists on tour. Food is quality, prices are fair, service is fantastic, and this is best spot to catch jazz on the island!

It's okay because of cover charge at the door. $20 to go in every time adds up, and is too much. The music is great and I'm sure I would spend that 20 or more on food and drinks. Why not have a minimum charge instead.

Victoria's favourite place for jazz music has been around for years. Musicians of all calibre play here. I have heard the best and the "worst" here but I've enjoyed them in Herman's "divey" character. It has a restaurant and bar, and on any given night someone you know is either playing or listening, or maybe having a bite at the end of the day with some fine music. Music is great, food is ok, people the best.

I came here with my partner and friends for a double date. I love jazz and had some high expectations. I'm happy to say Hermann's met and surpassed them; We had an amazing night! The "band" that played was exquisite and skillfull. Our dessert and sangria was delicious. They had me wishing I ordered more off the menu. All the staff, from the greeters to the servers, were a delight to deal with. The atmosphere and acoustics were stellar. All in all, an all star experience.. I will be back here for more of it all.

Great time! We had the cheese tray, which was delicious! Home made relish was particularly good. The crab cakes were crispy on the outside and soggy inside. Not so delicious. The staff was awesome. We had a great time!

Hermann's is a great place for music, food and drinks. Every seat has a good view of the stage and the acoustics are excellent. Have a look at the upcoming shows. Quite a few are not jazz!
