This venue was terrible. Before I begin, there was some good about it too, and it's only fitting to start with the good. The venue looks beautiful, and has a very nice patio. Finally, the bar tender was a stand up dude, was really nice and friendly, and fulfilled orders quickly and expertly. Well, that's it for the good.
Now for the bad. We just went here for a wedding. The first sign this place would suck is probably the live beetle that was tossed with my salad. This was mostly due to how many bugs were in this place. This place is by a river so this is to be expected, but they should be careful not to serve those bugs to the patrons. Also, the event staff were constantly stalking around the event trying to hunt down rule breaking. It was extremely overbearing. At any given time, all around the venue, there were staff members with bitter looks on their faces and bitter attitudes enforcing their ridiculous rules. It felt like being in kindergarten again, and constantly being watched and told that everything is against the rules.
There were also smokers at the event, and they were only allowed in a gravel area in the parking lot, where there aren't even chairs to sit. I understand having smoking areas, but this place had a large patio, and grassy areas all around the event far from other people, and of course the staff would stalk around and force you into that one area.
Later in the night, at 11, they would kick everybody off of the patio and onto the overcrowded venue. They had the dance going at the time, so if you didn't want to dance, you had to deal with loud dance music blasting the whole time. Had they not closed the patio, you could at least sit outside and converse with others. Again, the rude staff preached their overbearing rules, explaining that it is a residential area and that local bylaws prevent them from having drinks outside after 11. While this is true, this did not explain why they were preventing people from drinking water while outside. When people have just been drinking at a wedding all day, they will obviously need water at the end of the night, and it is insane to hawk around the venue for anybody with a cup or bottle of water.
At the end of the day, if the opportunity arises to visit another venue in PEI, I will avoid this like the plague.
