Excellent views. Sometimes see whales. Food is solid.
Cute little restaurant with fantastic views. The pizzas in the wood fired oven are delicious. Be prepared for a wait, but it's worth it.
Farm to table...local foods...extremely to tasty....fantastic views...worth the drive
This was one of the highlights of our trip to the bonavista peninsula. Great food. Great service. Great drinks. Great views. Very reasonable price. All local food and drink.
Good, but not excellent wood fired pizza. Quality ingredients but not as flavorful as you'd expect, I had the Chinched pepperoni on my pizza and it was pretty bland. The salami on my girlfriends pizza was tastier. Best to avoid on a hot day, you'll boil in the greenhouse out front if it's full inside. The service was good and attentive.
My "Build your own pizza" baked in the wood-fired oven was awesome! Service was friendly and the ambience great. Will definitely return!
The food is excellent and the view unbelievable. If you are in the area, it is a must to visit.
Great food and wonderful view! Would definitely recommend this eating experience. My friends and myself all ordered pizza, which was absolutely divine. Service was great! I had to buy a loaf of bread on the way out cause I enjoyed my meal so much! Will be returning hopefully in the near future!
Fantastic pizza, (wood burning European oven!), organic produce grown on the grounds, an incredible ocean view, goats, whales, friendly visitors, and super helpful staff. Also, incredibly delicious home baked bread!
Food was delicious, the staff were curtious & friendly & the ocean views were to die for!!! Highly recommend
A bit of a drive over some rough roads to get there, yet they have fantastic food with top shelf service (thanks Lori). The brick oven pizza was fabulous with a wonderful atmosphere. It was worth the short wait to be able to sit outside to eat after we had our appetizers. We had ceasar salad, parsnip soup (amazing), awesome individual pizzas, carrot cake, and partridge berry bread pudding. You also never know who will drop in as we saw Mark Critch (the Canadian comedian and actor) and Jeremy Charles, the chef from Raymond's (one of the top 5 restaurants in Canada). We highly appreciate the experience that we received as we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the atmosphere as well.
Great food, service and views.
(Translated) The food is limited but very tasty. (Original) Het eten is beperkt maar wel erg lekker.
Good food and atmosphere. Would go again.
Always a great experience... amazing food and spectacular view
Great dinner theatre
Really good wood fired pizza with a fantastic view over the bay.
Great staff..great food
The view was amazing, the moose burger was to die for. They have local honey for sale.
Terrific stop on our trip across Newfoundland. Beautiful views, nice people and of course good food. The little porch stays a nice temperature because it acts as a little greenhouse. We were lucky enough to have a few icebergs in the bay.
Quaint place. Staff was friendly and informative. Pizza was excellent. Trying the loaf of bread I bought for breakfast tomorrow.
We were there for dinner just last night...what a gem! Although the greeting and seating is a bit unusual, the friendly staff quickly took care of us and saw that we were comfortable. It was packed...on a somewhat rainy Wednesday night at an hour before closing, but luckily the rain had moved off at that point so we waited in the front garden along with a few others and checked out the herbs, tomatoes and other home-grown ingredients. The greeter, who appears to have been the owner, came out a couple of times to let us know how the wait was going...great service. The building itself is a treat to look at...the woodwork is amazing. From their website, it appears to have all been done by one of the owner's father's from his woodworking business next door. After a short 20 minutes or so, we were seated not far from the huge wood fired oven (actually, you can't get too far from it). No menus....you review the chalkboard over the central oven to pick your meal and the server will take your order. She gave my husband a great recommendation for a pesto pizza (carmelized onion, olives, pepperoni and feta, topped with mozza), and the rest of us had the hand-rolled pasta with duck confit, sugar snap peas, roasted cauliflower and a host of other fresh veggies. All were excellent...the pizza was absolutely to die for. The pasta was as fresh as if I had made it myself. Drink menu is small, but great for accompanying the meals. We had the rhubarb lemonade (spiked and otherwise) and it had just the right amount of tartness. Desserts....don't miss the desserts! Cheesecake and bread pudding rounded out our night....and we should have brought extras home with us. They were fabulous. We were treated to a view of a special birthday board of dessertsome for another table, garnished in nasturtium and blueberries.....this place knows how to present their food! It looked too good to eat (although I'm sure none would have been left...it was too good to leave a crumb). A spectacular sunset across the water, viewable from everywhere in the restaurant topped off our perfect meal. I wish it was closer to where we were staying near St. John's, but it was well worth the drive.
Scenic location and great food.
Wood oven is the centerpiece for the menu. Excellent baked fare, pizzas are excellent and made using items from the surrounding gardens. Fresh and spectacular.
The pizza was amazing
Good meals and snacks, interesting place to visit. Small restaurant so can get quite busy during peak tourist season.
Beautiful views, good food, and terrific staff.
A must do while visiting Bonaviata peninsula and Trinity Bay Area. We enjoyed a delicious fire roasted custom pizza, a moose burger and their rightfully famous rhubarb lemonade from the cutest rustic wooden table overlooking a ice-filled sun-kissed bay. Take a stroll through their beautiful vegetable and herb garden while soaking up the traditional east coast love feels.
Great restaurant in a sublime location. Pizzas are to die for and everything else is good as well.
Tremendous, a must visit even if there's a long wait.
This place is a little piece of heaven that fell on Earth. The staff is extremely friendly and will enjoy telling you more about the area. The food is hands down amazing. Everything is locally sourced, and most of the veggies are homegrown. You won't be able to find anything fresher! The wood fired oven is masterfully by the chefs to produce the best bread and pizzas of Newfoundland. The fresh pastas are great for colder days.
The scenery is almost as good as the food!!
Loved it! And very friendly staff
Stunning views and great service. Reasonably priced delicious food.
Freshly made everything and local. Great staff. Beautiful view.
I love the Bonavista social club. They have a great menu which includes many items that contains local ingredients (most of which is grown right outside the restaurant). You have a choice to eat inside or outside. The restaurant overlooks a bay where it is not uncommon to see whales (summer). I enjoy the wood fired pizzas.
Nice spot with a great view.
Newfoundland is an island swimming in friendly ambience, but it is nigh impossible to find food that rises above the minimal standard of "edible". The Bonavista Social Club is an oasis of culinary excellence, offering a beautiful seaside view with friendly service. It is well worth the drive from the nearby Skerwink trail. It is the only decent meal I had in all of Newfoundland.
The restaurant has a great view of the cove with a fantastic outdoor area. The food was OK, and the beer selection poor mind you.
Small indoor dining space but a really nice place to eat. Cozy atmosphere, everything is made using locally available items. I usually go for the pizza, highly recommended!!
Good pizza
Cute little place, very cozy, nice ambiance. The pizza was excellent, and the view is spectacular, with whales splashing around in the distance. You can't miss this place if you're in the area.
3 stars for main dishes and 5 stars for desserts. Found the food generally good but bland, grabbed a cookie and a brownie on the way out the door though and had my mind blown. Best damn brownie I've ever had, who knew it was so hard to find baked goods made with real butter and balanced with some salt. Can I get these delivered to Toronto?!
Always a great place to go when out that way. Great food and wonderful view.
Beautiful view, great food, awesome people. Beer is top notch.
Delicious food, beautiful scenery. Doesn't take reservations and had to wait 45 minutes for a table but we didn't even mind. We had lemonade with gin and hung out on the beautiful property until our table was ready. Pizza is great, of course, and the seafood fetucinni is amazing.
High quality, excellent food. Fantastic views. Great, friendly service. Highly recommended.
A bad experience with an attempted recovery. Beautiful scenery with a long wait. Server 1 got our drink order wrong, then forgot about us. Everyone behind us in line finished and left before we even got served. Caesar salad? Romaine lettuce with a lemon wedge for $12. Must have ended up with 4 different servers as they just seemed to disappear without a word, so I had to check if we were ever going to get food. Expressed our displeasure and they adjusted our bill understandably. The pizza and moose burgers at least were good.
Great venue! Beautiful view and great food!
Worth a trip
Great food and service. All or mostly locally grown and sustainable business. I go back every summer ????
This place is amazing! Great food, kind staff and a beautiful view!
They have a board that tells you how many whales were seen. The pizza is awesome and they have this mixed drink that is slightly pink in colour that is awesome!
Not too impressed. Food was average i guess. The Hawaiian pizza was quite nice.
You will not regret a visit to the BSC. We had a late lunch here which included a crispy pork belly salad. Who knew a salad could taste so good! Service was friendly and the food was fresh, creative and reasonably priced.
Excellent service, absolutely fantastic food, and phenomenal views.
Just finished a delightful meal here. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and happy to chat. Their moose burger was so amazing with fresh cooked bun, home made ketchup and made the whole experience unique and unforgettable. You must go here if you are ever in the area!
Lovely place. Worth the drive!
Their wood fired pizza is one of he best pizzas you’ll ever have! The view from the patio is breathtaking!
Amazing!! Reservations are a must! The pizza from the clay oven is one of the best I have ever had. The ingredients are all fresh from the garden or local sources. Not to mention the view while you eat of the ocean. I can’t wait to come again.
Limited and extremely well executed menu, very courteous and helpful staff, generous pours, and fantastic vistas. Couldn't ask for more. A genuine hidden gem. Seating is extremely limited, so book ahead.
(Translated) Superb setting, excellent food - fresh geens, real coffee. (Original) Superb setiing, excellent food - fresh geens, real coffee.
Great food, great location. What an amazing view!
Enjoyable wood-fired pizza, burgers and pasta. Arrive prepared to wait, but the setting is lovely. Great staff, views etc.
This place sure knows how to cook a tasty meal! They even grow their own vegetables on-site so make sure you order their garden salad! Would definitely recommend dining here if you're in the area.
Very popular and worth your time to find
Amazingly relaxing and the food is amazing. Had the pizza and it's the best pizza dough I've ever tasted that I could eat just the dough itself. Their carrot cake was one of the best I've had and their partridge berry bread pudding was heavenly. Make the trip!
Great food, amazing view!
Wonderful food and a great view.
(Translated) Good bread, good pizza, burger vs a bit exaggerated price, poor service (Original) Bon pain, pizza bonne, burger vs prix un peu exagéré, service faible
Amazing view, great pizza, staff were great with our baby.
Beautiful view, great service and amazing food.
Beautiful view. We saw whales!!! The food was delicious. Fresh. The service was friendly. Cozy place. Rustic and homey
Excellent food, amazing view and great service!!! Will definitely visit again!!
Great service, fresh, hot pizza and amazing view!
Food was decent, not amazing, but the setting and views can't be beat. You must go if you are in the area.
Great Newfoundland specialties with a view to die for.
Amazing pizza, fantastic desserts and delicious coffee!
Fresh :)
Great views and friendly staff! Also when I visited there were cute baby sheep.
Amazeballs
Great Location. Superb service and food using locally grown produce, seafood and game. Many pizza options baked in a wood fired oven, not in the New York style, but nice crust nonetheless. A small retail option that includes their own bread. There are outdoor and indoor dining options. The best choice in the area for a tasty lunch after doing the skerwink trail. BSC is licensed and has their own merch.
The food is scrumptious and amazing service makes a great dinner in the middle of beautiful coast. Food is very healthy and organically cultivated in front of the restaurant. Would love to come here again and recommend this to others
Rustic atmosphere, delicious food (wood-fire pizza), amazing ocean views!
Honestly one of the most special places on planet earth. I know that's high praise, but Katie and her lovely family are really doing it right over in Bonavista. The food is so fresh and homemade, the pizzas and pastas are so delicious. Sourdough bread fresh out of wood fired oven covered in butter goes down too easy. Last time we were out we had desserts and coffee out on the front porch overlooking their gardens and the sun going down over the ocean. Really, really special. Thankyou guys! Always look forward to it when we are in the area.
Best pizza I have ever tasted!!! Rubarb lemonade was so amazing! Service was great! We will be returning!
Great organic restaurant that is off the beaten path. Worth the drive for the good, friendly service and warm atmosphere. The moose burger was delicious!
The trip out here is worth it for the view alone, but the food is also great. A stunning view overlooking the water and the vegetable gardens and sheeps pen. The wood oven pizza is excellent and the atmosphere is amazing. Watched whales while we ate. Heard about this place on our trip around Newfoundland from people in both St John's and Rocky Harbour so it must be the spot!
Challenge to get there but worth the effort. Very enjoyable salads and pizza. Great views.
Worth the detour
Once you see the gardens out front you know it's going to be good! Pizza was great wood-fired thin crust. Indoor space cute and comfy and justifiably crowded, though that's too harsh a word. Expect some waiting in peak season.
Seriously a destination not to be missed. great food and views. Go early or late because it's always popular. In season menu and local items. fire oven pizza is awesome. Will always stop in when near. Bit tricky to find but worth it
Lovely setting, friendly staff, food was meh. While everything was fresh, the cod that I had was dry and bland. Same as the soup... Bland. Next time I would try the burger or pizza...
Amazing food and great service, well worth waiting for a table! The cod and scallops were caught fresh today, the pizza was delicious, and the chef did us up a lovely little platter to share a partridgeberry bread pudding and carrot cake for four. I love seeing all the fresh veggies growing along the walk up to the door and the basket of fresh baked bread waiting for us at our table.
Best pizzas in Newfoundland. The view is breathtaking. 5 star location. 5 star pizzas.
Magnificent bakery and restaurant Eclectic menu includes moose burgers, homemade seafood pasta and many other delights. Farm and nature to table. Wonderful scenery.
Great food all grown just outside their restaurant. Fresh food and good service
Great pizza and very comfortable, relaxing restaurant. Highly recommend!
Absolutely awesome location! Great food! Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful time here and the food was fresh and tasty. The lobster pasta was to die for. It was our anniversary and they put a sparkler in our dessert. Servers were very friendly and helpful. The view from the enclosed patio makes it extra special.
Always worth the drive. Watch the staff pick fresh from their garden
Long wait. Food was great.
they grow a lot of the veggies in their salads and pizza toppings, but the food did not for me live up to the hype. It is good, but not great. The table service and wait was substandard. By re-arranging the tables on the porch, they could seat more people, and that would help reduce the wait times.
A hidden gem of Newfoundland, the food was incredible and the atmosphere was amazing! Where else can you see whales breach while you enjoy a meal?
Excellent personal pizzas. Lobster asparagus pasta was very expensive for the portion size but delicious. Desserts were excellent. Beautiful location with views of whales from the dining area. We took out and ate back at our camp site.
Amazing location yummy food.
Hidden Gem. We sat on the porch, ate amazing home made pizza, drank, ate some more and watched the whales entertain us during our meal. Doesn't get better. Loved. Loved. Loved it!
(Translated) Wow. Nice discovery. Very well eaten. (Original) Wow. Belle découverte. Très bien mangé.
Lots of cheese! (But not too much) Pizza is made to order and size is for each person.
Great food
Delicious food with local/home grown ingredients. They have a garden right out front from where they pick the fresh produce. Seasonal dishes, neat drinks, great atmosphere and stunning views. You can't go wrong.
Over priced. Tourist gouge. $25.00 moose burger c'mon! Very unorganized set up. Do you line up? Do you wait to be seated? Are chalk boards your only available menu? What are the servers roles? Very unclear.
Only place in Newfoundland we went back to! Friendly, helpful staff and can’t beat the view of the cove and whales. Limited menu but great flavors. Wood fired pizza was tasty. Just a happy place to enjoy an evening.
Love this place. Fresh local ingredients. Dig the family vibe, everyone pitching in to make the business work. Glad to support them every time we visit the Bonavista Peninsula. Must visit if you happen their way.
Friendly staff, a nice environment. Amazing wood fired pizza. Staff was busy the whole time I was there but I didn't have to wait. A little pricey, but definitely worth it. Will definitely be coming back again.
Excellent hand-made pizza, and very friendly staff. Easily one of the best restaurants in the area, but it suffers a bit from its own success. Between 5pm - 7pm be prepared for a 30-45 min wait for a table, and then a 1 hour wait for your food as people in the area also tie up the kitchen by ordering takeout pizza. Also, the 20 people lined up outside for dinner will be in between you and the great view, and will be staring at you while you eat. Despite these issues it's still worth visiting.
Delicious
Excellent food, service and scenery. They grow some of their food in gardens surrounding the restaurant. Can't wait to visit again!
An incredible place. Amazing views and equally amazing food. All made from locally grown and sourced ingredients. The pizza is to die for! A must for anyone travelling the Bonavista area. Staff were also wonderful!
Best pizza I 've had in awhile. A bit out of the way but worth the trip.
Nice place and view
Having a delicious lunch, admiring the gardens and watching the whales. This place is truly worthwhile.
Amazing home baked bread, great food and friendly staff. Great place to escape from the cold and look out across the ocean.
Lunch made with fresh ingredients and a great view.
(Translated) I was personally helping in the restaurant and the food is of good quality, also some includes organic food, great treatment by the owners, incredible location and view. Kate Hayes excellent and renowned chef. (Original) Yo estuve personalmente ayudando en el restaurant y la comida es de buena calidad, además alguna incluye alimentos orgánicos, gran trato por los dueños, increíble ubicación y vista. Kate Hayes excelente y reconocida chef.
We ordered a pizza today, very disappointing, it was overcooked, burnt around the edges! The place is a tourist trap with a great view!
We've been taking holidays on the Bonavista Peninsula for several consecutive years, sometimes twice in a year, and the Bonavista Social Club is always one of our must visit places. The food is superb, the service is friendly, and the owner Katie, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of Canada and a Red Seal chef, makes the best pizza that has ever crossed my lips. I'm drooling uncontrollably just thinking about it. The locally sourced fish and other dishes are equally good. This year, 2016, the word is that reservations will not be taken; just show up and wait for a table _ it's worth the wait. While waiting, wander the small village of Upper Amherst Cove. Your blood pressure will thank you.
Such a great little place! I say little because it doesn’t seat more than 15 tables I would say. We both had the moose burgers. They were great but weren’t big enough for my husband who left hungry after. Their partridgeberry ketchup is so unique. Loved it on my burger. The view is very nice and it’s awesome that they grow a lot of their ingredients. They don’t do reservations so be prepared to wait a bit if you come during prime dinner time.
The moose burger was amazing and we were lucky enough to have an iceberg as our view when we were there!
Good food made from scratch and prices are reasonable.
Great food and an even better view!
Food was good and fresh. The place was packed, leading the service to be a bit slow, but overall a good experience.
Fantastic views, great service and would definitely visit again - love that a lot of the food is grown on site. Great gin and homemade rhubarb lemonade too!
Excellent food excellent service beautiful views while you eat
BEST PIZZA EVER. Bit of a wait but definitely worth it for the food and for the scenery. Staff are divine - don't miss this opportunity!
Amazing views!! Amazing food!! Amazing Service!!!!
Best meal we had in Newfoundland during our 3 weeks. To get the best from the rhubarb lemonade don't have ice it take the fantastic taste away half way down the glass.
Great remote location with local beers and wood fired oven pizzas.
Worth it
food was excellent and great view. people serving were fairly friendly. i would say the prices are on the higher end for what you get but they use quality ingredients.
Food was very good, the view was excellent, screened and glasses in dinning area but when window was open bee came in Not a lot of parking space. Staff was courteous and friendly
Great view, peaceful spot, and the freshest food from their own little farm. The pizzas are cooked to perfection in a stone oven, and the deserts was just spectacular. Along with all of this, it's shockingly inexpensive. No one passing through Bonavista should miss this.
One word... AMAZING
Bread very good
Outstanding meal! If you are even close to this area, you should enjoy a slow food meal... garden to table!!
Incredible location, exceptional food made with locally grown (like in the garden across the road) organic ingredients. A real gem. So good that while I was there a military rescue helicopter landed on the beach and the crew came in for lunch!
From the gardens when you enter to the pizza oven and sunlit porch... where better a place to spend the afternoon. I love that everything you eat can be picked outside and that food is all sourced locally. The view is spacious and allows you to feel the freedom of the Newfoundland. Highly recommended. Great in the fall.
Great pizza!
