I had some lights installed in my backyard from Hotwire. Despite them saying they would come on a certain day and then delaying it a week or two, that isn't the problem..Nor was I going to write about the fact I had to call them back at least twice. Once to install the switch to allow the lights to automatically turn on and off which was not done when they initially did the install. And a second time because they did not properly bury the wires as requested, and promised before the install took place. I still had to go into my garden and rebury all the wires as they barely put the mulch in my garden overtop. The reason I asked for this is I knew the racoons and squirrels would inevitably chew through them. The wires were still exposed and not nearly buried to the 2-3 inches I was promised. After all this, I still was happy with the way the lights looked so chose not write a review critiquing the company.
However, what prompted me to write this review is that after about 2-3 months one of the lights stopped working. When I called to inquire, the company sent out a tech to investigate. I appreciated this and it turns out that the light had been chewed by an animal and caused it to malfunction. The tech fixed this promptly and I was happy with the resolution.
Later that day I got a call saying that since it was chewed by an animal, it wasn't their fault and I owed them $315 + tax to have someone sent out. After discussing my displeasure with this, they reduced the total to $285 + tax - which didn't really make me feel much better. I can understand them wanting me to pay for the repair - despite the fact they said they would properly protect the wires. But to not inform me that there could possibly be a $300+ bill to have someone come out is completely unprofessional. It took him maybe 30 minutes to fix. Had I been told of the cost, I would have investigated this myself first and I'm sure I could have replaced the light for less than a third of that cost.
I'm also certain I will continue to have issues with the lights because they weren't installed with a protective barrier around the wires or harness under my deck or in my garden.
It's a shame that this is the feeling I now have with this company as I would have been willing to hire them again for an upcoming complete home and front yard renovation. I felt compelled to write this review because I don't think they resolved my concerns about a surprise $300+ bill.
My advise for their future installs is to have an option to protect the wires with a tube of some sort to avoid these issues. I would have gladly paid that additional cost to avoid what I'm certain will be years of issues...
