We had originally booked with another company to remove knob and tube, but they put us off for 3 weeks. We called Sykes Electric and they were here the same day for a quote! The quote matched the total at the end, there were no hidden costs, and the entire house was done less than a week after starting. The crew was polite, efficient, and tidy. If anyone is looking for an electrician for larger projects I highly recommend Sykes Electric! In and out in a few days and completed a total overhaul of our house. Moved current lighting and installed new, grounded all plugs and added new ones, panel upgrade, garage electrical, flood lights, video doorbell, bathroom fan and more. Guys were amazing, very friendly and worked around my two dogs and two cats. Couldn’t ask for anything more!

Absolutely Amazing!! When we discovered we had 80% knob and tube wiring in our new home I called Sykes. Glen was so quick to come down and give me one amazing quote! Fantastic job and quality craftsmanship. We couldn't be happier with the work completed by Kennedy and Adam. They were here on time everyday, stayed as quiet as possible and kept everything in tip top shape. It was like they were treating our place like it was their own, with all the effort they put into it. Kennedy even came back the following day when an outlet was not working. Glen sent 4 qualified workers to safely and quickly remove existing knob and tube throughout the house and install grounded electrical infrastructure. Job was done in 4 days and now i have new plugs and lights and a FAN IN THE BATHROOM for the first time! Price was reasonable and job was executed within 3 weeks of initial quote, far quicker than i expected. 100% would recommend.

Glen and his team have restored my faith in the trades. As in all old houses there are going to be unforeseen issues and my 125 year old house has confounded everyone I’ve had work on it and the result is always a huge increase in price. But not with Sykes Electric. This job took a full extra days work for his team and the price remained firm at the estimate. I recently had Sykes Electric do a complete knob and tube removal from our dream home, which we just purchased on Harvard Avenue. It was an absolutely perfect experience all around! I got three quotes on the job and Sykes was the most reasonable. But the main factor in my decision to go with the company was how thorough Glen Sykes was in his walk through of the house. I needed his expertise on figuring out where we needed outlets, etc in a century old home with original wiring. Glen went room to room and made suggestions on how and where new power should go. He also did a ton of awesome little things that I never would have considered, including lights in closets and bringing up a separate circuit for an air conditioner on the third floor. Also, in order to accommodate the possession date of our new home, Glen sped up his agreed upon time table and managed to finish this comprehensive job two days early so that the flooring contractor could get in. All of the electrical in our home is impeccable. Glen and his whole team were true professionals. Frankly, I do not think I have ever had a better experience with a contractor. We are grateful to Glen and the whole Sykes team!

We phoned Sykes Electric to get an estimate on removing our Knob and Tubing wiring, Were both seniors and have been trying for the last two years to go away on a winter vacation, but now with Covid around we have had to canceled our vacation each year. I talked to my wife and we agreed that now that we have a little extra money we didnt use for vacation that we should look into getting the wiring in our house upgraded. I find that now a days it seems that the majority of companys out there are out for your money, and not there to provide good customer service. I looked up Sykes Electric and read the reviews that people had left. They seemed to be one of the better Electrical Companys out there. I phoned and got an estimate the next day from Lisa. I know a little bit about wiring and found that Lisa was very knowledgeable on explained everything to me so I could understand in laminae terms what she was talking about. I was told that it would be about a month before they could start, which is fine for us as we cant go anywhere with this Virus out there anyway. A month later she phoned and told me someone would be out to remove and upgrade the Knob and Tubing Wiring staring tomorrow. They sent a four man crew the next day and within a week they where done. All the men where very polite, courteous and their workmanship was above standard. Each day they would clean and vacuum up any mess they had left that day. Thank you to Glen and your Employees for a job well done. I would highly recommend this company to anyone. I just found out that theres still a few companys out there that provide fair prices and great service. Sykes Electric is one of them. Gary

They are liars. Phoned, gave them a quote and asked if they could beat the price "of course!" they say. Schedule to come see us the next day, they dont show up. We phone back, they say "We never said that we would beat that other quote you had!" Shady, dont do business with them. At the least, they are not honest people. *Edit* haha what a liar this guy is. I specifically told the guy what my quote was, for a simple job. I asked if he could beat that price, he explicitly and happily said "Of course we can!" and then he said he would come down the next day to check it out -- which he didn't show up, which is why we phoned back some time later because he never got back in touch with us. The guy is a complete liar, dont trust him. Saying the conversation never happened, what a joke this guy is.

Sykes Electric replaced all the 1939 wiring in our 2000 sq ft 2 story home and installed a new 200 amp panel. They installed hard wired smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to meet today's codes, and added GFI plugs in the bathrooms. They were competitively priced, communicative, prompt, and considerate. Four men were in our home for 6 days to complete the job. They were polite, respectful, and cleaned up after themselves every day. Holes in the walls were all neatly patched when the electrical work was done. They do everything that their advertising says they will do. I would recommend them highly.

After living in the Wolseley neighbourhood for decades, we decided it was finally time to bite the bullet and get rid of all of the knob and tube. I did extensive online research and checked out the recommendations of fellow Wolseleyites. Sykes came up time and time again as a good choice in a variety of sources. When I contacted Glen, he arranged to come and give us a quote quickly. He both listened carefully and made good suggestions as he walked through our home. He was outgoing and friendly and after we subsequently hired him for the job he was always readily accessible through phone or text. As the date of our work approached, something came up which made the timing a bad choice for us. Glen worked to find another convenient time in the near future which ended up being when we were out of town. I was a little hesitant about having a crew of workers in our home when we weren’t, but my concerns were unfounded. We also spoke with Justin, a main electrician, on two occasions before we left town and his knowledgeable manner and efforts to clarify our wishes were reassuring. Work was completed in 4 days and when we returned home everything was in order and clean, and with the exception of a few patched places which required paint or a bit of paper, we wouldn’t have noticed work had been done. We were delighted to find that a couple extra lights had been added-in our basement near the furnace where Glen noticed how the lighting was inadequate and also in our tiny front hall where I had decided to forego the cost of another switch and light. Glen explained that he had noted it was a ways to the switch in the main hallway, so he added in the simple extra light. When I told him I had the old hall light from my childhood home which would be great there, he sent someone back a short time later to switch out the light for me. I was touched by this kindness. In addition, our final bill came in a few hundred less than our initial quote. Always a welcome discovery when paying a major bill! I don’t often write reviews, but felt both the quality of the work and the professionalism of the company warranted taking the time to sit down and actually write one. Five stars, no question. If you are looking to replace your home's knob and tube, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you do NOT contact Sykes Electric. We have a 100 year old home which, of course, has plaster walls. Gathering quotes was a challenge, ranging from companies who did not want to quote to being told that it would take weeks, and the mess would have us contemplate moving out for the duration of the job. Sykes Electric completed the job within 3.5 days, the disturbance to us and our home was very minimal. The daily clean up was excellent. Justin and his team were fabulous, adding in light switches or centering a light fixture where we had not thought to change things, but made so much sense and brought our electrical into the millennium! These small extras showed that they have experience with old homes and that they cared to make our 'lighting' life more convenient. The minimal amount of holes that were made were patched professionally (thank you Sean!), and made for easy paint touch ups. Glen, your team of Justin, Victor, Sean, Miles and Jeremy were excellent, and something we were dreading having done to our home turned into a positive and fantastic experience!

We got our knob and tube replaced in November 2018, and we also got some additional lighting installed. Glen was fantastic to work with, had great recommendations for lighting, and the work was all exactly as we wanted. We were impressed by how few holes they make to replace the knob and tube - we only had an hour of work to paint the patches that they filled and sanded so beautifully, which was much less than we anticipated. Would definitely recommend.

I called Sykes Electric to request a quote on upgrading my service panel to a 100AMP system. The conversation with Mr. Glen Sykes (owner) was fairly brief. He said that the work wasn't worth his time because the time he has to waste waiting on Manitoba Hydro's inspectors eats up too much cost as his crews have to just sit there and wait once the work is completed. So he refused the job as it wasn't cost-effective. I'm on-the-fence about rewarding the honesty with a few stars or giving 1 out of 5 so I went with 2 stars. All the other contractors I spoke to were shocked at this treatment as this type of job is a majority of the work they do. Good luck to Sykes Electric, they seem to be doing good business if they can turn down contracts at will.

We were required by our insurance company to remove all of our existing knob-and-tube. Sykes was recommended to us by a friend. When I contacted Glen, he was very helpful in terms of scheduling this. Glen and his crew were friendly and efficient and completed the job in one week. They cleaned up after every day. They patched all of the holes to paint ready condition. Glen even brought cinnamon buns for our family one day. Overall excellent service and I would recommend Glen and his crew.

Glen Sykes is a fine businessman who proved true to his word. We live in a 108 year old home that was in need of rewiring. Sykes Electric via the crew (a tidy crew) were able to accomplish this in record time despite the number of obstacles posed by the woodwork, wallpaper and brickwork. They not only took care not to make a total mess, they cleaned up the areas that needed to be opened for access and filled the holes. We are very pleased with their service!

My family and I had an emergency on New year's eve we had a power shortage and had no heat or power to the fridge. With a four month and two other children under 13 getting help was extremely important, but since it was new year's eve obviously no one was avaliable or willing to help without high cost. I called Mr.Electric, On Time electric Heritage Electric and so many other companies but I got answers like I can send someone down for 200 dollars and all I needed was a 60amp fuse went to Home depot and Rona around 5:45 'Cuz of new year's eve most of the stores were already closed even though places we're marked at 6pm. Waiting two days later after new year's was not an option. So when we finally got a hold of Sykes Electric and he was not only willing to help but had the fuse we needed we were counting our blessings. First of all this kind gentleman was in the middle of new year's dinner but still answered his phone and was willing to help god bless his heart. He said he had to go check for the fuses and make sure he had them so after 20-30 minutes waiting and hoping with candles in the living room with all the children together I called him back and got a wonderful answer saying that he had the fuses and I should go down to pick them up, which in my situation I would of went to the north pole and back for my kids. All parents can relate, Lol so I drove down to see him and he gracefully with smiles on his face opened his door with three 60amp fuses in his hand, I thanked him and then was about to pull out my wallet and gratefully pay this kind stranger then he said no I will not charge you Merry Christmas and Happy New year!!! Wow!!!!! Even though I was willing to pay anything he refused and his wife behind him standing by said happy new year. So think if he was willing to help a stranger in dyest needs only new years eve IMAGE what this kind gentleman would do on a job at your home or company. My family and I fully recommend Sykes Electric to friends and family and to the public. I truly appreciate this act of kindness because these days it is rare and in the construction industry it is not used as often it should be, I know this because I am a carpenter for a living.
