Paid bill online. Still disconnected. Told on phone to pay bill in person and they would reconnect us. Paid bill in person. Sorry we don't have anyone available it will have to be tomorrow. 3 years of work, 3000 dollars down the drain, killed our saltwater tank system with all the fish. My 2 and 6 year old devastated at the loss of their fish. There should be another option. Heartless horrible company. They are so greedy they even have to rebate people for installing the rate increase early. Just pathetic. Simply pathetic.

I'd give this company a negative rating if I could. I am a non-resident property owner on PEI. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my family and I are unable (understandably so) to set up our summer home there. Despite knowing the government's decision to close its borders to non-residents, Maritime Electric continued to bill its monthly service fees to non-resident homeowners. Our power is turned off, but there is still a $37.50 service fee billed to us monthly. When I inquired about this, I was told it was my responsibility to pay for it, or to cancel the services, but if I wanted to reactivate it again, I would have to pay almost three times the amount of what the monthly service charge is. Maritime Electric has to be the most ruthless and heartless company I have had to deal with. I feel sorry for their customers who were dealt some misfortune during this pandemic, and had to deal with their heartless employees. But what else would you expect from a utility conglomerate that monopolizes the energy industry on a small island, who gets the backing of the provincial government?

Ian Barrett

First class utility, maintains infrastructure under difficult conditions and provides nearly 100% uptime.

Nothing but a great example of, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely." ~Ghandi Too bad they have a monopoly, refuse to purchase power back from islanders or even allow grid tied inverters.

7 power outages for a considerably legnth of of time in apx 2-3 months... This is beyond unacceptable especially for the rates we pay. I lived 5 years in the artic where storms and winds reguarly reaches 160km and never once had a flicker. There needs to be some regaltory body we can start taking complaints to. Everytime i see the wind go over 80k we loose power. This is our first two years living in PEI and I have never even had a thought before to complain about a power company... In utter disbelief this is actually an long term trend here

Ryan Macpherson

I guess the infrastructure is good if it was 1956

Sydney Roberts

With today's many ways to communicate why doesn't Maritime Electric post something about an outage affecting the entire Eastern part of the Island

Andrew Ansems

For as many power outages as people in pei seem to complain about (myself included)... I do have to give them a good rating, they are a lot faster to fix the problems, and communicate a lot better with customers them most of the other places I've been. While definitely not perfect, they provide better service then a lot of other places.

What a great team! So kind and helpful .. THEIR customer service goes beyond despite COVID-19. 10/10 ! Joanna and her coworkers doing a fantastic job!! ♥ ♥ THANK YOU ^_^ !

C Archer

Positive: Its nice to have access to power and they have alot of hard working linesman doing fixes. Negative: Alot of Outages. Alot of it due to poor infrastructure and grid layout. Really Negative: Random crazy high bills in months where they have higher costs (due to damages or outages) which they blame on customer usage. Electrician says different - but the metre is always right! Super Negative: No alternative in the province - they have a monopoly and they increase their rates regularly - normally with little to no benefit to consumer.

Get that really crusty woman.. watch out she will chew you right out for the simplest things. She really needs to retire LOL.

Definite lack of communication with the media and general public. Power out as soon as the wind hit 90kph and 23 hours later no estimate on reconnection. 40 crews on the ground but I've travelled far and wide and have yet to see one crew. Be nice to know their schedule and be able to plan accordingly. Guess we're literally in the dark.

Terrible service, power is always off at my residence due to their crappy infrastructure and unwillingness to do anything about it. Wish there was another option

Nathan Evans

Website does not work and hasn't in years, calling them also doesn't do anything if there is a storm. Just shows what we mean to them I guess, not even worth a functional website that isn't 20 years old.

Benjamin Davies

Prices are really creeping up with a pandemic and all, have some compassion

Nick

Had to call someone out three times to turn on the power for one of our units. "not connected first time and forgot to turn it on the second time". Very disappointed with this company.

Power seems to go out all the time. Sun shining and a bit breezy and off it goes mid day. Infrastructure needs major overhaul. This is ridiculous

Pauline Baker

Phoned regarding getting a tree trimmed which had a power line running through the branches. A crew arrived next a.m., disconnected the line and removed it, we had the tree cut, they returned and reconnected the line, problem solved within 3 hrs. Very impressed with service and crews. Thank you

Robin Langston

The guys who go out in all conditions at great personal risk deserve a medal
