Short review: friendly and thorough service at an affordable cost
My power went out on Easter weekend, in a rather dramatic fashion involving a burning smell and a scorch mark on an outlet. Glen kindly came out on an evening call in the middle of the weekend and not only set my mind at rest regarding the risk of a fire, but fixed the outlet then and there in order to restore power to the entire back half of my house.
The issue involved aluminum wiring, as this is an older house, and Glen came out a few days later to do a safety audit of the rest of the outlets in the house. The price he charged for the audit was extremely reasonable, even though the audit took longer than he had originally estimated. He was also extremely thorough, in a) going above and beyond in making sure the house was safely wired, b) advising me on how to avoid future issues with regular maintenance, both what I could do on my own and what I couldn't, and c) advising me on other issues that I should consider fixing at some point in the future, giving estimates as to both time and price - never ever trying to push a sale, but making sure I had all the information I needed to make an informed decision. It was clear that if he saw a safety issue, he wanted to fix it, and he performed several small tweaks and checks around the house, including managing to climb, in an almost Houdini-like fashion, into the smallest of attic access panels located in the smallest of closets located in the smallest of alcoves to check on the wiring of the lighting!
Even after he had to spend so much time on the audit, for a very reasonable additional charge, he also fixed a couple of non-related issues I had that I had asked when booking the appointment if he could fix if he had time, or even just happened to mention during the audit.
Glen was friendly and communicative, and very pro-active in calling me over to explain to me the issue he saw, what he was doing to fix it if it was a small, fast fix, or what I could consider fixing for the future. Although it's impossible to completely avoid it in such a job, he avoided technical jargon as much as possible and if I had a question, he was always very good at clarifying or explaining further. As a woman, I and I know many of my friends have found that professionals can sometimes be frustratingly non-communicative, coming in, doing the job, and never saying a word, or worse, treating any attempt at questions or concerns with disdain. We always pass the word when we find someone who works the way Glen does. I point this out because to me, this is as big a selling point as anything else in my review.
