I called, looked on the website, and Facebook messaged to try and find prices prior to coming to one of the free lessons. The person I spoke to dodged all of my questions saying it was against policy as they want to go through things in person giving the analogy that you don't buy a car before giving it a test drive, I explained that I just wanted prices to be able to know if the prices were prohibitive before coming and trying the free lesson (using the same analogy I said I wouldn't test drive a Ferrari when car shopping as I know I cannot afford it) but they continued to give me a bunch of rigmarole about their morals and policies. What this indicates to me is that they want you to come in and try the lessons before laying on the sales tactics which is great for business, but bad for the consumer. I at this point do not trust the business but may in the future decide to attend a free class to see if I am correct.
This club has honestly changed my life! I've never been one for sports or exercising in a gym or eating healthy, but that all changed when I joined Momentum. Now I belong to three different classes which I love, and I've come to consider all of them my extended family. All of the coaches are so helpful, friendly, and experienced in the art they teach. Jo and Kris have created a place of acceptance.. a judgement free zone. They also offer great rates that myself as a student and mom can afford!
I'm from out of town and I had a chance today to do a free trial day here at momentum. Kris was very welcoming and helpful even though I was not his regular student. I will definitely be back here when I'm in town.
Our entire family had a poor experience with momentum. Coaching is awful, they’re focused more so on there image than on martial arts. Coaches were very unprofessional, they were extremely unorganized and had poor communication. If you’re on a budget then you might need to settle for momentum, you get what you pay for. If you want quality you’ll need to go elsewhere and pay a little more.
My experience at this club was good. The instructors always answer your questions and ensure that you understand the answers. Instructors work hard with intentions of creating an atmosphere of togetherness or what some people may call a martial arts family. There are some friendly and welcoming people in this club as well as some not so friendly and welcoming people. Lots of attention is focused on UFC fighters. The club often has UFC fighters come and provide workshops. Went to one workshop and it was phenomenal! I highly recommend any of Momentum's workshops. However I am only giving 3 stars because I felt the instructors of this club did not walk around enough and ensure students were learning the technique properly.I felt even after a year of training I was learning the same techniques over again. Also after training there for an entire year I was not once offered or informed of any opportunity to compete or take my kickboxing to the next level. It was not encouraged. I was told that "it takes a lot to step into the ring." In other words the instructors did not think I was good enough. Had personal training sessions with the Jo the fierce instructor who I found to be a very encouraging and motivating instructor; however with me she let her judgment as well as her background in social work and counselling get in the way of her kickboxing instruction. She is a very fun and motivating fierce fitness class instructor and it is a great class for anyone who wants to have fun and get in shape. Also not sure if this happens to everyone when they are unable to make it to class for a couple of weeks but I felt very judged upon any return from a period of absence. Anyways this is my personal experience of Momentum Martial Arts. Hope it helps!
Great school and Great people.... I have been in the Industry a long time the owners are there for the members and community!
They are amazing - very attentive to my kids, challenging them and treating each of them so well in their growth. Highly recommend!
Great People. Great Training. Great Gym.
Momentum Martial Arts is a fantastic place for my son to learn Karate. Joanne and Kris are amazing people that have built a wonderful community. They have a great After School Program as well that picks up the kids, brings them to the club, they have snack time and then a lesson in karate or BJJ for the kids and free time to burn off that after school energy.
Momentum is fantastic!!!! I literally have nothing negative to say. They are very supportive, understanding, patient and motivating. I have been with Momentum for a couple years now, and in that they have worked around my compartment syndrome and given me other exercised and drills to keep me going, but so that it didn't help. Both Kris, Joanne and everyone else there have been nothing but kind to me. I love kickboxing and i would never dream of going to a different gym. They push you just enough to make you better, but not too much that you get down or frustrated with yourself. I have brought in a number or friends, and they have always taken the time to show them the ropes and, plus they get to try a class for free!!! I have done kickboxing, fierce kickboxing and a couple epic seminars and I have loved every minute! I would strongly recommend this place to anyone looking for a wicked workout and to learn some cool skills. I just recently came back from a leg surgery and Kris and Joanne have welcomed me back and I feel like a part of the Momentum family. I have some responses to Shelby's post as her partner for the duration of her time with Momentum, but I don't feel like a public internet post is the right spot for that. Keep doing what you're doing Momentum- you rock!!!!
Me and my family has been with this great team for 2 years now . The first thing that comes to my mind for Momentum team is “ nurturing “. We look forward to attending our practice sessions every week . The entire team is motivating and connected . The coaches and mentors make every session fun , happy and progressive physical and mental . We as a family are fortunate to be with this team.
Great facility... great people.
I've been training here for one month now. So glad I joined! Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming. The coaches I've trained with are great--they help you improve in a positive, constructive way that is never discouraging. The cost of training is a bit burdensome, but I expect that would be the case at any gym. And can you put a price on your health? Since training here, I feel more energetic, confident, motivated, and better than I've felt in years! I also attended a self defense seminar that was practical and well worth my time. I highly recommend Momentum.
Great atmosphere and team work. Coach Kris & Joe are amazing with the kids and adults. Very positive and confidence building, while developing their skills.
Love this place! Fantastic atmosphere where you can learn a new skill and get a great body workout! All the coaches there are phenomenal people and truly love what they do! Looking for a new workout and wanting to learn some self defence while you’re at it, seriously hit up Momentum!
Excellent place to learn martial arts and self defence. The owners also care about and give to their community. Check out their kids summer camp program while you're at it!
I have not yet joined any classes at Momentum Martial Arts, but i have been looking to join a jui jitsu class and i have found them to have the best options for that. I also appreciate how they take their time and give thoughtful responses on their reviews.
Wonderful Instructors and Fantastic After School Program. Great camps for kids to try Martial Arts in a clean, fun and safe environment. Definitely would recommend their after school program, so convenient and very nice people working there.
I’ve been going to Muay Thai classes at Momentum for about 6 months and have had an over all good experience. The coaches are very knowledgeable and willing to help if you have questions. I’ve found the martial arts community at momentum to be friendly and the more experienced members are willing to help if you ask. Just keep in mind that this isn’t just a fitness program. You will learn how to fight and when you’re comfortable you will be encouraged to spar with coaches and other members. Safety is a priority of course. 5 stars
My daughter loves their after school martial arts program
????????
I always tell people in my work and rugby circles about the exciting things that are happening at this facility. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in trying something new in a supportive environment. The coaches and other long-time students make an effort to help you out and encourage you. They are also very family oriented! This facility offers something for beginners, those who are experienced, those with little ones, and everything in between. Also, they are very affordable for the variety of classes and times they offer. Check it out!
I attended the Women’s Self-Defence workshop and had an excellent experience. There was a good mix of information provided, demonstrations and opportunity to practise some of the skills. They also allowed participants to ask questions throughout the session. I feel much more confident in my ability to think through and handle situations and am eager to take more self-defence training through Momentum in the future. My 7-year-old son also recently started taking martial arts classes through Momentum (Kids Karate) and he absolutely loves it. The staff of Momentum have training in working with children with certain needs and they have been super welcoming and accommodating to our concerns and needs as a family. The staff are kind, approachable and knowledgeable and I would highly recommend this martial arts gym to others.
My son attended the Momentum Martial Arts summer camps and absolutely LOVED it. We found out about their after school program and he joined. Let me tell you, it has made my life much easier - they pick him up from school and take him back to their location. My son is learning discipline, leadership, respect and responsibility. And ABOVE ALL, he is having fun! It is doing a world of good for him. I highly recommend this place.
I've only ever had a positive experience here. Their staff are professionally trained, and they interact with my family with care. The last year and a half has been tough for everyone, but Momentum has been a place where we can stay healthy, and stay connected.
A very positive, welcoming environment with personable staff. The coaches themselves are continually training and passing new knowledge on to the students. Special seminars are held for students to diversify and improve skill sets. The facility is well laid out, quite large, and very well maintained. Looking forward to what the continued evolution of the club brings!
-Kids enjoy it and they are taught that learning self-defence is not so they can fight, but so they don't have to fight. As a father, I like that. -Many different levels of classes from year old novice to very experienced. -Different levels and types of training. -Navigated quite well through Covid restrictions. Classes are organized and thorough. -Value is a great bargain if you utilize the 3 class/ week membership/ option. -Good small business worth supporting.
I found momentum 3 years ago after looking for a new place to work out. I did a ln introductory free class and never left. The coaches are friendly and kind. The community is very welcoming and encouraging. It's a great place to work out and a great place for your mind and body! Momentum makes you feel strong and powerful. Can't recommend it enough.
Welcoming to everyone, great place to train no matter your age, experience, or gender. Been training there a few years now and can still remember the first day and how welcoming everyone was, tried a few gyms at that time and this one stood out.
I trained at momentum for a few years... the staff and members were all super friendly. Momentum is great for anyone who's looking for a welcoming and family friendly training environment!
I can’t say enough positive things about Momentum. Great coaches, owners, and facility. I’ve been taking private coaching sessions in self defence/martial arts for the last year, it’s been phenomenal for my physical and mental health! Highly recommend these guys for any age or experience Level!!
Momentum is such a fun and welcoming place to work out! All the staff are incredibly helpful and supportive. As a plus size woman, it was important to me to find a place to exercise where I was not ignored or looked down on. Momentum was the positive place I was looking for! Not only did they welcome me but I discovered that I really like working out. That was amazing! I have learned so much and my personal mental and physical health has improved with the regular workouts. And learning muay thai kicks serious butt!!! Stop sitting on the couch thinking about doing awesome kicks.....come and actually learn to do them!
We had an extremely bad experience at Momentum. We have been at 18 other childcare/education programs including kindergarten and Grades 1-3, after school programs for a year at a time, with out incidents. This was the worst experience I have ever had. We prepaid for the year. We have requested a refund but Momentum Martial Arts has refused.
I attended momentum for 3 years. The people you train with our great and it does feel like a family, but like all families there is dysfunction. There is a serious ego problem at this gym and the owner likes to blame the students but it’s his character and behaviour that is the true cause. I left momentum because you are not treated like a customer even though you are paying for their service. the owners’ ego blinds him to problems especially if they involve his coaches or his favourite students. If you try to bring up a problem you will be verbally assaulted, gaslighted and made to think you’re the problem. They will ask you to leave and not contact anyone from the gym before admitting there may be a problem.
Accommodated my special concerns regarding my bad lungs. Were caring and professional
Truly the center of an amazing martial arts community. Our whole family trains at Momentum, from my daughters and I in jiu-jitsu to my daughters and wife at women's only kickboxing. They have great coaches and incredibly caring coach/owners who drive the awesome vibes coarsing though the gym. They regularly have world class talent doing seminars and even have competition teams for those wanting to test your skills. As an added perk they also have after-school programs. We are definitely lifers.
I love it because of the top notch instruction. The coaches are not demeaning and always push you to do your best. I could have asked for a better place to train. Momentum is the best!!!
Do you guys have muay Thai classes too ??
Momentum is an awesome place! It has grown so much over the last few years. We couldn't be happier here! Give them a try and see for yourself!
I have never been to the business so nothing to say there. But I notice when picking up my kid from school, every day their van parks right in front of the school in the handicap parking to pick up her kid (no parking pass). Every other parent has to park a block away and walk. Not very good representation of your business especially with the business plastered all over the vehicle. Believe me we all want to park right out front and pick our kids up, but we don’t use handicap parking.
I stopped into this gym last week to find out what the class schedule for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu looked liked as I was in town for work. I was told by the woman at the front that Wednesday was the next class and that the first class is always free. Just like is advertised on their website. I went to class Wednesday and was told that I’d have to pay the 20 dollars drop in fee as I was just passing through and wasn’t actually planning on signing up. OK, not what was discussed but they’re running a business. I paid my 20 dollars and attended the blue belt instructors class. She was very informative and demonstrated the technique in a very easy to follow way. At the end of the class when everyone else stayed behind to get some sparring in I was informed that I wouldn’t be allowed to stay as the owner “didn’t know what affiliation I train with”. She then went on to say that she wasn’t even supposed to let me train with them as I don’t train at a Renzo Gracie affiliate in my home town. I travel for work and try to drop in on as many schools as possible to keep up with my training, and this is the first negative experience I’ve ever had. Everyone I’ve ever trained with is more than happy to have someone new on the mats, and help grow the community surrounding this sport. She then went on to tell me that despite not being allowed to train me, the next class is Saturday and if I dropped in again and paid then I would be allowed to stay and roll afterwards. I attended Modern Martial Arts Centers open mat the Friday previous and it was far better. Everyone was very technical as well as welcoming and helpful and no one had an issue with me sparring. The only thing increasing my review was the instructor was very knowledgable and friendly. The owners attitude towards the sport is the reason I wouldn’t recommend this gym. There are several other gyms in the area with high level instruction and perhaps Momentum has the lowest prices in town but due to the drop in fee I doubt it.
My grandson realy like this place.
