I highly recommend this driving school!!! My 18 year old son has high functioning autism and ADHD. We started with Safeway back when he was 16 and they couldn't get him past parking lots and residential streets. They gave him his obligatory white card and gave up on him. We started working with Norm at Silver Lake back in February this year after my son turned 18. Norm was amazing!! He is patient, kind, and was able to get my son to understand the multi-sensory process that goes along with driving. My son took 10 lessons with Norm and improved each time he went out. I went along on one of his lessons and was extremely impressed with Norm's ability to keep my son calm and work with him. My son is now driving on freeways which he was terrified of when I tried to work with him. He did not pass his first road test, so he had another lesson and then just took the test again yesterday...and passed on his second try!!! I can't say enough good things about Norm, Matt, and the rest of the staff at Silver Lake. They have been extremely accommodating and were able to squeeze my son in so he could take his second road test before he leaves for a college program next week. Make this your first call if you need a driving school!!!!!

I was struggling in order to drive in Minnesota. I was not considering my self a good driver from the beginning until I met this very nice guy; Norm from silver lake driving school. He started teaching me everything about driving. I really realized eventually that driving is an art and he taught me how to enjoy it. My Goal at the beginning was to pass the driving test, eventually after practicing driving with Norm for around 5 hours totally, I realized that I did not only pass the test but I also became a great driver, he taught me how to observe, how to think about everything happening around you, how to predict what people think while driving, and how to accommodate other people mistakes. Eventually This guy taught me how to be a safe driver not only a test passer. Thanks Norm!

I haven’t both Silverlake and A+ Plus driving and so far Silverlake has been the best. And they got the best cars ???? They’ve actually been more helpful and they’re cheaper. The only downside is that they’re always booked either than that I give them a 15/10 For also caring about their students

The permit classes are great. Do all the assignments and practice tests Mr. Maki gives and you're set to pass first try. Also, I had Virak and Mr. Maki for behind the wheel. Both are great driving instructors and genuinely want to help you succeed as both a driver and during your road test. They always want you to ask questions and offer help even without ask. I can guarantee that if you have one of the two or any of Mr. Maki's staff you're guaranteed to pass your road test. They instill confidence in every student. My driving skills have greatly grown since joining all thanks to Mr. Maki and his team at Silver Lake Driving School. I definitely recommend to follow his advice and recommendations and to enroll ASAP (worth every penny)!

He was very informative and starts teaching you the basics as well as things you need to know to pass your test from the very first day. Norm is very patient and easy going, you can tell almost immediately that he has a lot of experience, making it easy for you to relax even if you're nervous. After just a few lessons I was positive that I could pass my driving test. On the day of the test you are picked up with sufficient time to get one last practice in before the test. Scheduled an appointment to be brought to my road test at Arden Hills. 1 hour of practice is included in the cost, but if you're not feeling confident enough, I highly recommend the 2 hour session, for a small fee. Matt was an excellent instructor. Had I just gone with a friend/parent, I doubt I would've passed at all! Matt quickly made me feel at ease, complimented my spatial awareness, while also being quick to point out any flaws that would have me fail, and he quickly corrected them. He will joke around to have you loosen up, while at the at the same time giving excellent directions, tips and tricks! would not recommend any other school in the area over Silver Lake, you can't beat them.

I recommend this driving school to anyone in need of their driver’s license. I was down to my fifth test and had payed too much at any other driving school and wasn’t getting the help I truly needed. This school is very affordable and I had two great instructors. The owner of SilverLake Driving school, Matt, is phenomenal! He guaranteed that I would get my license and I did! His “mothering technique” really helped me calm nerves. Do not go to any other driving school than this one! This is THE BEST!

I had Darrin as my instructor and he is a phenomenal, patient, and encouraging person! I started off driving at a parking lot because I was so afraid to be behind the wheel, but he challenged and encouraged me and within my first lesson/first time driving, I was on the freeway AND highway. From there, he really was good at teaching me foundational driving skills while having lots of patience for me, especially as an adult driver with zero experience and very little confidence. He's also really good at pointing out any bad habits or errors. He's straight up when you make a mistake and I really appreciated his full honesty (and humor). Within less than 2 months and a lesson a week, I took my test. I passed on the first try. I have left Silver Lake Driving School with so much more confidence as a driver and I could not recommend it anymore than I already to those who are considering going. I chose Silver Lake because it was the cheapest and the highest rated driving school in Minneapolis area according to Google. There were two available time slots when I called, one of which didn't fit my schedule so I had to make some adjustments. Matt, my driving instructor, was very accommodating about it; he booked those time slots for me for about 3 hrs before he would give it to someone else. At the end, it only took me about 5 mins to make the appointment. He came to pick me up at my apartment exactly at 6:30 AM as scheduled and watched me driving for about an hour before he decided that I was ready for the road test. Compared to the amount of time I practiced driving with my friend (about 30 hrs), the one-hour drive with Matt might seem insignificant, but it was definitely extremely helpful. Matt watched me very closely and talked me through the small important details about passing the road test and driving safely. He always pointed out when I was not being observant enough of my surroundings or didn't look over my shoulder when changing lanes, which are two of the top reasons people fail the test. He made sure that I drove at the appropriate speed. He shared some great tips on how to park parallel and the 90-degree back up. He was very generous with compliments. MOST IMPORTANTLY, he knows VERY WELL how the road test is done, what each examiner is paying attention to, and what speed you should drive at during the test. That's how I passed the test! After the road test, he even dropped me off at the DMV in St. Paul to get my driver's license. Thanks Matt!

I am very thrilled to write a review about this school. I recently passed my driving test last Thursday and I am still smiling. My instructor was Norm; he is the best instructor I could have asked for. Before he takes you on the road, he assesses your strengths and weaknesses, and comes up with a strategic plan that will guarantee your success. If you are like me, who have taken the test once before and failed, Norm will carefully review the mistakes you made and work with you so you will never make them again. He is very patient, and this makes it easy for you to ask him a question twice if you feel like you didn't get it the first time. As you drive, he will stop you sometimes to talk about any mistakes that you made; but at the same time, he compliments you on the things you did well ( I loved that about him so much ). If you are a visual learner, Norm has teaching tools just for you! One of the things that I observed about him is that he loves what he does. He genuinely wants his students to do well, not only to pass their test, but he strives hard to put out cautious instead of careless drivers. With Norm, you can definitely see that it's not just about the money. He is great at what he does, and he does it with so much joy and passion. It doesn't matter if you have never driven before, or if you are a nervous person. By following the tips and formulas that Norm gives to you, not only will you pass your test, but you will, or almost have a perfect test like I did. According to college educator Marva Collins, "The good teacher makes the poor student good, and the good student superior." Thanks again Norm for all you have done for me. Would have given 0 stars if possible. Had a driving test coaching package a while ago (about 8~10 months) before and didn't get a chance to review for a while . Had a horrible experience with the tutor on the day for driving exam. Here is what happened . He seemed to be doing good and friendly initially and after receiving the payment before test day he suddenly told that there should be one more day of practice and threatened I was really unsafe driving the car for test needed before test and he added 100$ for that and this happened 5 mins before exam . This happened after he received a call about a person who cancelled his practice for the next day.It seems he wanted to fill up his calendar by threatening other students. As I didn't agree because I have took a day off at loss of pay and didn't want to loose another day. He finally accepted but I was really off and upset due to this behavior and lost the test due to a silly mistake which was due to the pressure. The person assisted was Matt. Writing a review after a while as I couldn't find the place in google.

So here you are thinking that you failed so many times and you really need some expert driver to help you learn the rules of the road and to train you. Well that was me, except I failed (*cough*) 4 (*cought*) times to realize this. Then I contacted Silver Lake Driving School. You may be afraid at first of getting taught by someone you don't know, but from my experience the drivers at Silver Lake Driving School were professionals. My own teacher, Norm, knew the rules of the road and he also knew exactly how to handle a new and inexperienced driver like me. I thought I knew a lot about the road, but Norm gave me a wealth of information that I hadn't thought about before. If you chose to go to Silver Lake Driving I am sure that you will learn everything you need in order to stay safe on the road. If your afraid that they will just take your money and be done with you, then please don't be. My awesome driving teacher that I got taught by would first teach you for the day and then would ask for payment only after he had taught me everything for that day. So please don't be scared off by what many other driving schools you read about did to people in other reviews. Silver Lake Driving School is a very professional school to go to and they won't disappoint you! If you can't get to them easily then don't worry because they can come to you and pick you up as well as drop you off at your house. I myself just passed my (*cough*) 5th (*cough*) test and wanted to thank Norm and Silver Lake Driving School for helping me learn the way of the road! I Hope that this review will help any other struggling student drivers in the future!

Best driving experience! I drove with Matt for 3 days and honestly he pushed me to be confident with my driving. The skills he shows prepares you for the test and the price is reasonable. Would recommend to anyone who is learning or would like to get better with their driving.

I was so scared to choose a driving school because of all the stories I've read online about instructors from other driving schools who are aggressive and impatient. Well I'm glad I took the chance and selected Silver Lake Driving School. I was a complete novice having only been behind the wheel once seven years prior for about 20 minutes so naturally the first day I was picked up for my behind the wheel lesson I was bordering on full scale panic. Norm was very reassuring and patient throughout my lessons. He never raised his voice at me or treated me with anything less than respect even when he was correcting me. He will explain something to you multiple times if need be and always remain professional. I had nightmares about driving for years and was absolutely terrified of going past 35 or getting on highways, by lesson two, I had no more nightmares and comfortable with going 40. The first time I got on the highway I was ecstatic. This school is awesome, excellent customer service and professionalism. Did I mention that he was always punctual? I got my license and though Norm pointed out that I did the work, I couldn't have done it without him. I definitely recommend SLDS, not to mention they have the best hourly rates.

I started to drive with Mat and he was great in teaching a beginner like me to be more confident right away. Then due to Matt's hectic schedule, I was referred to another driver, Norm. He is also excellent, but he’s more into the details of the rules and technical side of driving. I ended up driving more with Norm because I needed all the details and he always reassured me when I was feeling in doubt. He even measured the exact measurements on how to park! And it was perfect when I had to do the test. My experience with the he Silver Lake Driving School has been excellent. Both Matt and Norm are great. It just depends what you need the most when you want to learn how to drive.

Damiian is a great instructor! I would highly recommend him and SilverLake Driving School. I was completely new, never drove before and didn't know how to operate a car. After failing my driving test(s) with another school, I took a break from taking test, and then later enrolled into Silver Lake Driving School. I took their adult BTW package and one more 2 hours appointment later and I passed the road test!! I drove with Matt and Norm (for the extra day), and both of them was extremely helpful and conscientious which assisted me to improve my driving. The best features of driving with silver lake, in my opinion, are: 1. The instructors always observe the details of your driving starting from how you sit, how your foot are on the brake or accelerator, how are the mirrors set, how are you holding the steering wheel, how are you observing while driving, and last but not the least, how you perform the techniques. 2. They always tell you when you are doing something wrong (no matter how small it is) and it helps a lot. 3. They actually let you practice on the test day (for about an hour), which I think is really helpful for people who do not have access to another car. 4. They have the best rate I have found. 5. I was actually able to contact them through emails before I called them to settle an appointment. I have emailed many schools for some information, and none of them has replied me back ever!
