I think it would be affordable for me if my son will get international entry scholarships! Let's hope to be!!

Class of 2005 B.Ed. here, and I have no complaints. The education faculty was second to none, with a host of awesome professors who actually spent time in a classroom at the high school level long before training new teachers. St. John's is a nice small city, and recently identified as the cheapest place in Canada to live.

Stayed in the residences over the summer a couple of years ago. What a great facility and lovely campus. The residence workers were great to put up with us and the common room was great with live music every couple of nights.

The registrar office, the professors and the academic advising centre really care about students' worries. Highly helpful .

(Translated) Overall, I would probably choose another place to study, since the first impression is immediately negative! International students, in fact, decide the question of their whole life: to go to them to the ends of the world and take their money to them, or choose another place, closer to civilization. Despite this, there is no support for applicants. Sending a request to them, in response you receive an unsubscribe with links to their own site. You send a second request, you get an answer from one simple sentence. Everything! Apparently they also teach. Pay and be healthy! People who move to a foreign country clearly want to study not for show, but specifically for knowledge, and it is not easy to get knowledge from monosyllabic sentences. Specifically in my case, I am sure that they did not even read my letters, they just send templates and that's it. In other words, friends, do not be fooled by "cheapness", then pay exorbitant prices.

They are highly unreasonable, they have their own stick in the mud rules and make sure all students follow that when they are constantly acting contrary. They are understaffed, so some of the staffs couldn't care to give any extra attention to unique cases. They make mistakes and expect the students to bear the brunt of their misinformed decision. Honestly, I am just waiting to graduate and leave this school. Don't get me wrong NL is a nice province with many decent people. I doubt you'll have trouble finding someone to socialize with if u actually go out. BUT this is an example of don't blame the people, blame the system (obviously the system was created by a human being). There are limited ppl who could actually change the system and I hope they see this. And pls if u do not get into engineering, don't come here. Most of their other programs are seriously lacking staffs esp computer science. I don tell u -from a tired student

This place is amazing if you like to spend the time between the nature. It's so big, has four paths for walking, a pound (it has a lot of ducks and you can give them food) and a lookout. Another thing that you can appreciate are all of kind of flowers from the province, that are labeled with their information. I think that the weather is a clue factor for enjoying this place, because if the day is rainy, maybe you don't want to stay outside for a long time, also the photos could have less light, but in a good day, I think that you would have great photos.

Samesh Ch. Mazumder

First of all, they're known for their Folklore department, not Business or Science. If you go to this school with no issues that need to be fixed, I'm sure it's tolerable, but if you have a problem or need something taken care of, go elsewhere. Limiting the number of students who can register for a course they need to get their degree to only a 10/15 student capacity, and then refusing to sign people into the class, isn't what should be happening. Not to mention they keep taking away more and more parking lots, making the school pretty inaccessible considering the city's awful public transportation system. There is a reason why this school is so cheap.

Swarup Mazumder

Nice campus size. Has everything you’d ever think of but yet not too overwhelming.

I am an Internal Medicine/Rheumatologist and did medical school and my Int Med residency at MUN. BRILLIANT training, schooling, and learned not only up-to-date medicine….but CARE/BEDSIDE MANNER/EMPATHY. Accepted into multiple post-grad programs based on training at MUN. The care taken with their medical students, interns, residents, etc…..OUTSTANDING. All in a collegial atmosphere….go for it!

It's a good university and the professors are reasonably good and qualified (It depends on the different departments really). The atmosphere of the campus is relaxing and nice. You can have nice walks around a pond for example. The campus is not narrowed down like in a big city. MUN dining is average. You'll get pretty much the same meal very 2-3 weeks. Residence is on the okay side. If you like parties and are an extrovert, it will work well for you. The counselling centre is okay if you need help but there's a lack of diversity, so most issues that you'll try to explain will sometimes be waved away or not understood in your context. They're also pretty quick (very) at categorising you and putting a name on your "disease" rather than helping and providing a step by step approach to be and think better in your career and personal life. What was surprising enough was the lack of advice for a blood test to see if the physiology and hormonal balance were good. Because that could affect mental health too and no words were ever said on that. If you get diagnosed with a disorder or a disability, be prepared to do your own research on the subject because the resources won't be handed down to you (which is pretty unfair given that they are the ones who provide the tests). It's not a coaching center. The bus transit is not the best and a lot of time will be lost unfortunately. It gets worse during winter with all of the snow. The city is not too bad and safe. You can walk alone at night. However, it's not vibrant like Toronto or Montreal so you'll be bored most of the time. Restaurants are expensive and there's not a lot of variety to have a simple cheap snack. If you're an international student, I have to say, you'll have to carefully weigh the pros and cons of attending university here WISELY. The recruiters from MUN do not prepare you for the cultural differences and all of the barriers you might encounter. NL is a province on its own with its own culture. Let's not sugar coat things. It's very difficult to socialise and make friends who will be supportive enough. It's difficult to adapt to social settings outside of the structured environment that MUN can give e.g. work, group hobby. MUN International Office give the basic help and basic resources/knowledge that you will need to go through your first year but beyond that, you'll have to make it by yourself. People of colour, people with a language barrier, international students, or any person who could potentially be from elsewhere is labelled as being an "international." The difference between locals and internationals is very accentuated. And not toned down like in ON/QB. It's not easy to blend in and there is clearly a lack of inclusiveness from the city and the communities. It may happen very often that you'll get ignored in social settings/clubs or not recognized for participating in an activity (And this will happen many times). Also, if you find yourself in an unrequited relationship, please for the mother of god, leave and put your own life together. You'll never win and the help services provided by the university/city will never be by your side. You will mostly be judged rather than helped. Let's put it bluntly, you will get very VERY lonely. And I'm not speaking for myself only but for all international students whom I've met along the path. If you're well prepared to live without a family structure and start from scratch in St. John's without knowing anybody, then go for it. But if you're more of a family-type of person and somebody who needs structure, entertainment, a very active social life, think twice. You can attend your semesters here and travel during the summer if need be. Overall, MUN is a good school and give excellent education in some departments but you'll have to be very flexible, have a strong character, a solid mental state and be prepared to adapt to any situation good or bad. And be prepared to come home with no one to talk to 90% of the time. A wise message from an immigrant to a future/current immigrant: Leave NL if you want a job.
