So, my youngest child was the only one I had to teach how to drive, and if you've never done it before, it's not as easy as you would think. I called Shield and spoke with a very polite and helpful staff. I signed her up and the online portion was grueling as far as my kid is concerned..It did teach a lot of things I never thought about. So, I'm grateful for that. Test time she failed the first time, which is normal and should be expected since this all by the book. Today, she passed and is very happy as am I. Brad Bixler is the owner and was so sweet and understanding when we had some scheduling issues. I would do it again and if you're looking for the right place to teach your child to drive Shield Driving is where you need to go! Thanks to all of you at Shield!!

Let me put this short. The employees/ instructors were super helpful, the training was on point. Took 3 lessons, booked my test with them & passed all within 3 weeks or about. Would definitely recommend this school for anyone!!!

The staff are very friendly and very understanding. To anyone that has anxiety or gets worked up while testing, this is the perfect place to go to. They make sure you take your time and drive correctly. 10/10 would highly recommend.

2/3 of the drivers were really nice. Had some issues, however, they were handled excellently. Learned some different driving skills but wouldn’t recommend Shield Driving School alone for first time drivers.

Everyone at Shield was fantastic!! Excellent experience for my learning driver, basically stress free: Mr.Johnson was patient, thorough, communicated very well w/ my 16yo. Their way of teaching parallel parking was a BREEZE for him, really bolstering his confidence. Instructors were ALWAYS on time and did whatever they could to help make the learning experience easier--on both of us!! When I'm 94 and need a retest I'm coming here!! THANK YOU!!

UPDATE to my original post.... As you can see, the owner reached out to me relatively quickly in response to my post. I had a very nice conversation with him in which he showed sincere and genuine concern for the behavior we observed from one of his employees. It sounds as if I was able to provide enough details to him so that he can identify the bad employee, further assuring me that he will address the bad behavior. I appreciate the fact that he took time to respond and address the issue. It was obvious that he takes pride in his business and safety to the community. I would recommend this business based on the fact that he cares... It is unfortunate that at least one of their employees does not. - Just had one of their vehicles pass me doing at least 90 mph on the inside right hand lane of I-83 between Harrisburg and York. I sure as hell would not let these knuckleheads teach someone how to drive. And no I am not exaggerating, I was doing 70 and this dude flew past me like I was standing still, zig-zagging in and out of traffic as far as I could see. Completely unprofessional and dangerous!

Both my kids have anxiety disorders in addition to other issues so we used Shield Driving to teach them and test for their drivers license. The instructors were patient and professional when interacting with my kids. Both kids are now licensed drivers! I highly recommend Shield Driving for lessons and testing.

Im only giving 5 stars so people can see this my driving instructor was very nice to me but it took 6+ months to recive my paperwork and the woman i spoke to was rude as He#% she got smart with me over the phone spoke over me kept cutting me off and hung up on me and denied my calls for service

The Power of Two Or More

I am a older learner over 40 and just learning to drive. All of my instructors made me feel comfortable and not like an oddity. They worked around my schedule and it was a very pleasant experience. Well worth every penny. The 6 hours of solid instruction really gave me a lot of confidence when it was time to take the test. Thank you Shield driving thank you so much. I highly recommend.

I had a great experience when I went to go take my drivers test at shield. They let you know everything you need to know. You just have to perform what they say if you do that you’ll pass. My driving test instructor was Ray very great guy. Thanks shield.

Extremely expensive (even more so depending on where you live), got nothing of value out of it, waste of time and money. Also if they tell you that you can't take the test at the DMV, its a lie. You can test at the DMV for half the price.

this school has done what I needed the most. and. that was to teach me and help me accomplish my number one goal and that was to get a driver's license. now today with a experience of shield and god himself I ended up getting a driver's license that I never had and it was 27 years but today with the help of Josh and Jeremy I ended up passing. with being taught from Josh he has taught me how to parallel park and that was awesome experience once he showed me how I did it every single time he's a very very great. trainer to be able to help you get your test when you're very very first try thank you so much shield for all the opportunities that you have given me what to open up and be able to drive and give my daughter the life that she needed and that was transportation with God and himself in a school I use I have to clean my goal thank you guys so much from the very bottom of my heart

My daughter who is out of school felt she needed more practice on highways and parallel parking to pass her driving test. We found Shield driving school on line.They returned our call and the instructors were professional , prompt and good teachers. They told her what to practice so she would pass , and showed her the correct way. She passed on the first try. Thank you shield and I would highly recommend them to any one what ever age you are. They also supplied a certificate of completion for insurance.

I've used Shield for both of my children. Most recently my daughter took 6 hours of lessons with Shield and then took her driver's test the first day that she qualified to take it. We decided to utilize Shield's road test option because we couldn't schedule her DMV until 14 days after she qualified to take it. That was the best decision. Not only did my daughter get her license as soon as possible, but Shield prepared her very well for the test and it was very low stress for both of us. I would highly recommend Shield Driving School lessons as well as their road test option.

I wanted to take sometime to give Shield driving a review. Rob was so kind, understanding and funny! The driving lesson instructors were really nice. They kept me in the loop of what my daughter needed to continue working on. Mike was one of them and Mr Fogle the other. They were awesome with my daughter. My daughter is very shy but she got to know the drivers instructor and felt very comfortable with them. I did purchase a total of 2 packages which was 6hours each a total of 12. My daughter and I have a good relationship but teaching her to drive was having us urge and stressed. If you are dealing with the same I would say it is well worth the money and your relationship with your child. Plus a savings on car Insurance! Confidence in driving! We wanted to give our teen driver every resource available to help them in navigating being a new driver. Shield Driving School was worth every penny, we signed up for the online course and behind the wheel. Because our teen was already driving for several months with a permit, this experience wrapped up the learning with much more thorough instruction. Our teen was lucky enough to have Mr. Hughes for all 3 lessons. He was so friendly and professional and our teen really enjoyed his drives with him! And, taking the test at their locations was super convenient and worked so well with sports/school schedules. Our most awesome experience!!! The driving school was professional and drivers were patient and courteous. I will recommend that my friends kids use this driving school. After seen some of these comments, I wonder if they actually went through the driving school because my experience was totally different.

Our teen was easily able to schedule an appt to take his behind the wheel test. We drove 1.5 hours to get here since DMVs in Red counties aren't doing driver testing. You pay more, but it is worth it! So glad we did-very nice, clean professional place. I will bring our younger son back in a few years just to avoid going to the DMV ! Highly recommend!

I could not be more grateful for the service I received at Shield Driving school, even before I ever paid them a penny! I have a very tight schedule, and the owner of the business went out of his way to accommodate me and make sure I could book lessons at times that would work. I was on the phone for over thirty minutes and received nothing but patience, kindness and humor, which I'd also experienced when I visited their Harrisburg office earlier in the week. I had originally intended to take my business to a private instructor but wasn't hearing back in a timely manner. I am so pleased I called Shield instead (I didn't realize they, too, are a small, local business!) and am excited to start my lessons with them next week. Thank you so much, Shield!

My daughter just completed the “Behind the Wheel” program at Shield and it was incredibly helpful. The instructors were professional and patient and did a great job taking her to a variety of roads to practice on. The videos they provide are also helpful, especially the one on how to parallel park. After watching the video at home before her lesson, she was able to practice what she learned with the instructor and parallel park successfully. After her last lesson, she took the driver’s test and passed! We highly recommend Shield to new drivers! Worth every penny!

Our daughter took Shield Driving School "behind the wheel" course, as her sisters did, and we were extremely pleased with the professionalism of the team and the results of the instruction. During the pandemic, the amount of drive time/distance was a challenge. Three different teachers covered the 3 2-hour sessions and each brought a different perspective and guidance that all helped my daughter gain a lot of confidence that was needed not only for the test but also for every day driving. It was easy to schedule and change sessions online which was great as plans for the drivers test changed during the pandemic. After going through this three times, I think it's incredibly helpful to have someone else teach driving because they know the current laws, driver's test expectations and correct form. I'm also pretty sure my kids didn't roll their eyes or get upset when the professionals corrected them!
