I had the pleasure of going to Blanche Macdonald and taking the Aesthetics Program. I learnt a lot from the amazing instructors here and from that I am now really established in the beauty industry. I am now a senior lash technician at Joanna Keller Beautique and I am also a makeup artist. Blanche gave me all the fundamentals and skills I needed to grow in this industry, its a great place to learn and develop your skill and very very well known in the beauty industry. Its been 3 years since ive graduated from Blanche and I cant believe how far I have come and all the doors that have been open to me since I graduated from Blanche. When you go to Blanche you are in an amazing environment and you are taught by very talented people and then when you graduate it is a very very great thing to have on your resume and opens up A LOT of doors for your career! To this day I am so thankful I made the choice to go to Blanche Macdonald!

I am currently studying at Blanche in the Global Makeup program. I moved to canada 5 months ago from Mexico because makeup has always been my passion, i found out about blanche because some of my friends in mexico graduated from here. I have to say that Blanche has been an awesome opportunity for me to meet more people and experience the world of makeup!, it has given me the opportunity to expand my horizons and to learn a lot more. I love having the chance to practice makeup all day and to learn from my mistakes with the help of the talented instructors. I also love volunteering during the weekends because as an international student i cant work in canada, but volunteering has helped me to learn more about products, meet cool and fun people and to actually do makeup in the "real world", so far I even had the opportunity to work in photoshoots which has also help me to expand my portfolio. I hope everything goes as good in the next 8 months left of my career.

I have graduated at Blanche from the Esthetics/Spa Therapy program a few years ago. I can honestly say that 1 year course was the best year of my life! I still miss the school. We were like family there. Not just their program is awesome, but also the instructors and directors are wonderful people. They gave me helping hand and support whenever I needed, and still if I need help they are there for me. So if you are thinking of attending one of their great program just go for it, you won't be disappointed! It will give you a lifetime experience.

I love this school. It is amazing. All the teachers are so amazingly helpful and inspiring while always pushing you to your best. With tips and tricks of the trades, and an up to beat learning session so you learn the here and know of what you need to know to be a makeup artist in this industry today is so useful. I have learned so much from Blanche Macdonald, I spend every moment here totally excited for that day, and for the next course, and what we're learning next. The notes are helpful, the teachers give you everything you need, you're constantly meeting people who have worked in whatever industry your wanting to get into, whether it be Film and TV or Fashion or Bridal, everyone is so helpful. With the abilities to network in a industry where it is so important to network, as well with coming out with a good idea of everything else that you may need to know in the industry, whether it be behind the scenes know-how of who does what, to certficates (Like WHMIS) you need to get before being able to work in the industry. They make it so much easier for you to know what you should and should not do. Blanche Macdonald is the best school if you what to make this a career to get you where you want to be as a makeup artist. They are the best, and everyone there is so wonderful. It is worth every penny you put into it!

What an amazing year! I just graduated from Blanche Macdonald Centre last week. After this whole year studying GLOBAL MAKEUP at blanche, I met so many great talented friends. I have learned so much not only makeup skills but how to build up confidence and passion. Thanks for all the instructors and staffs at Blanche, I never would have expected to accomplish these much and its just a beginning. Whenever I need help, they are always there to support me and believe in me. My time at Blanche was one of the most memorable and happiest. Now I am so excited to move on to my next chapter of my life. I'm starting my FASHION MARKETING Program in November 2016. It's gonna be another wonderful year for me and I'm really looking forward to it.

if you are looking for a school with a strong administration and staff who personally cares about its students and pays attention to detail then this is the school you want to check out. I had a tour of Blanche Macdonald for the Spa Esthetician Program and I felt very welcomed from the moment I stepped in the office. I was welcomed by Susan Lee-Shipley who answered all my questions about attending school. To be honest I did not think school would be a possibility for me at this time as my husband and I had moved from Ontario to British Columbia less than a year ago and expenses were a bit tight. School finances can be difficult and stressful to talk about and Susan made sure to explain everything in details, writing everything down which was very important to me. I also had a chance to talk to Alexa from financial aid and she was able to breakdown all fees and explain the application process. I had a tour of the school and facilities even stepping into a classroom for 5 minutes to listen in and I could already picture myself in the classroom. I highly suggest you tour the treatment rooms (if they are available) as this is where you will spend the majority of your time. I left that day feeling so happy and hopeful, all my questions had been answered. I know that this is where I am meant to go to school. In just over two weeks I will be attending Blanche Macdonald and finally starting my career and passion.

I attended Blanche Macdonald in 2012, and took their Global Makeup Program. I have to say it was the best year of my life! I learned so much, and made great friends. The teachers and staff are amazing, and always willing to help in class, and out of class. Moving to Vancouver from Manitoba, the staff at the school has been so helpful since right from the beginning, helping me find somewhere to live, and even now, I'm in constant contact with the career department, and they continue to be of help, with volunteer opportunities, to jobs available, offering so many networking opportunities. This truly is an amazing school.

I graduated from Blanche, in January 2016 from the Global Makeup Program. I can honestly say that it was probably the best year of my life thus far. I never expected to learn so much from so many experienced teachers and staff. Everyday in class, we were challenged to push ourselves and our creativit and everyday, I surprised myself with how far I can go. Blanche brought out the artist in me whether it was through school assignments or volunteering opportunities. The Global program is amazing for anyone who is serious about pursuing makeup full time. I formed relationships with fellow classmates, teachers and directors that have lasted even past graduation. The staff are always supportive of students and alumni. They want to see everyone succeed and reach their full potential. The career center is especially useful for anyone looking to gain more experience or find a job. I love that these resources are available to students and alumni. You can take the student out of Blanche, but you can't take Blanche out of a student.

I just graduated from BlancheMacDonald Centre Uptown Campus from the Nail Studio program. I cannot be thank you enough from the professionalism and excellent instructor I had Jamie Yin. Not only she is well knowledgeable on these field but she is an amazing instructor. when someone asks me what one of the best decision I ever made was, one of my first responses is attending Blanche Macdonald Centre, living in a small town, no clue how to bus or transit or what a "granville street" was. I took the risk of attending a makeup school. I knew throughout highschool I wanted to pursue something into artistry but no clue what and when the time came to be BMC was the place. Makeup was an industry many don't understand, with social media, artistry, business , and retail and I am so glad with a full year of learning from the best teachers from all over like film, fashion, tv, etc to this day I have gotten support since day one of class July 5th 2015 all the way to my graduation day, all the way to now. I have receive that love and support and the boost I had needed throughout these years of struggling to find out what I wanted to pursue in my life. I am a recent Blanche graduate, and I have to say that my experience there was amazing, I took the freelance program and I felt I learned a lot, and enough to be confident on putting myself out there in the real world and volunteer and look for job opportunities. I loved all my teachers which all work in the industry so they really give you the best tips and insight from their own experience. The career department gives you an infinite volunteering and job opportunities to gain experience and work on your skills. Not even a month after graduating I did the makeup for a Japanese contact lens company website and I just booked my first wedding!!. I would say Blanche Macdonald is the best school I have ever gone to and studying at Blanche has truly been a life-changing experience to me. I love all my instructors and not only have they guided me to become a much better makeup artist, they have also helped me grow so much as an individual. I look forward to school everyday - it is such a comfortable learning environment with so much inspiring talent and creativity. I was chosen to compete at the Vancouver IMATS a few weeks ago and I am truly grateful for all the support, guidance and love from my teachers and schoolmates. Coming in as a mature student with no formal training in makeup, I was pleasantly surprised and very happy with my education at Blanche Macdonald. We received extensive training in all areas from Bridal, Fashion and Editorial Makeup to SPFX, Airbrush and Prosthetics. It was a really hard choice that I had to make; I had to move from my home in Vancouver Island to the big city. After I made the choice. I am a graduate from the Esthetics Program in the summer of 2013. My first day at Blanche felt like the first time I walked into my favourite store. I was really excited, anxious and a bit scared. I was waiting at the lobby near the reception, sitting alone and waiting for the other students to arrive. I thought wow, this place is so beautiful and clean. I couldn't wait to go in my class. Everyone was in uniforms, friendly Receptionists and really welcoming teachers. Everyone who passed by gave a smile and they were all very well groomed. I looked forward to going to school everyday, learning different things and being with the friends I met in school. Sure there were times when I was not in the mood just because I was tired from working or I was busy studying for exams. The teachers were there for us when we needed them. I probably visited Simona's office so many times for different reasons. They were always there when you need to talk to someone about anything. When I am lost, they always have an advice. I know you're thinking 'yes they are supposed to say nice things' but if you think about how it relates to your life, it makes perfect sense. The friends I have made from Blanche are one of the best people I've ever met. They made my year extra special. Studying together for exams, lunch time, going to Curlique, Spa Show, Dermalogica and many other places. Going to Blanche was one of the best things I have ever done. If I was in the country, I would go back and take other classes and even work there one day. If you are planning to go to Blanche, you won't regret it. Just go in there with a positive attitude and welcome all the possibilities. Just like Simona said, "your own success starts with you". I am now living and working in Germany as a Spa Therapist / Esthetician, doing what I love to do. So for that, I would like to thank Blanche Macdonald for giving me one of the best years of my life. The day after I moved to Vancouver, I was able to arrange a meeting with the AMAZING Mel Watts to discuss my upcoming year at Blanche Macdonald. Mel, and the entire staff at Blanche were so incredibly warm, and welcoming, and have all made themselves available for any little question at any time. We did the makeup course with Jen and it was amazing, She’s an amazing teacher!She made our class fun, but made sure we learned everything correctly. Blanche Macdonald Centre (BMC) is without doubt, the best school for makeup artistry in North America. This school is a highly organized and functional institution that offers the best instructors because they are already successful in the field of makeup artistry and they teach us their techniques/tips hands on the classrooms. Not only we are thought but also BMC nurtures creativity in each one of its classmates. This is a center that host students with a desire to learn and experiment with their creativity where the limit is the sky literally. Furthermore, the student body is so diverse, BMC welcomes cultural diversity and brings together local and foreign students into one place, this allow us as students to practice the skills of makeup artistry in all types of skin textures and colors, at the same time, it allow us to get to know other cultures and celebrate diversity. This is very rare, many countries don't have this opportunity. Furthermore, the student body is composed of all types academic backgrounds, at BMC I have been able to meet students who have diverse bachelor degrees, high school and people with different careers than mine, BMC put all all us together because we love Art and we love to paint faces!. BMC is not an average school, different to others, BMC teaches us about professionalism and educate us about what is the real market in the outside, I have learned about every single place I can work and I have been thought, through the marketing course, included in my program, the Freelance Makeup Artistry Program, about my portfolio and the 'how' in order to succeed. This is valuable, coming from University education, these are things that are absolutely not thought there. BMC, though the careers team, (Heather Sosa & Jen Brown) has a system to allow students volunteer opening us doors to the world of makeup world with recognized companies, industries, foundations, personalities, etc. The reputation of the school is really high, therefore, we as students access to practice at the best places and with very professional people, for example, my first volunteering was for Chanel and from there I have access to work with the best in the makeup artistry world!. BMC will nurture not only the artist in us, the school teaches you about the business world by many means and has an active role and compromise with society by opening us door through volunteering for a diverse number of non-profit institutions and foundations that organize events for numerous good causes, such as breast cancer, support for women, mental health support, etc, you name it. I love that BMC Careers Team have also given me an individual treatment by giving me opportunities geared towards my preferences for example I ask them, I want more editorial. runway and bridal and I am heard and given more valuable opportunities in these areas. Each one of us gets an individualized treatment because they want us to succeed, and that is very valuable to me!. I can write many more things I love about BMC. I am without doubt the happiest I have ever been since I started my program, my life and my creativity have found the best place to do arts and to build another future that time ago I could not think of, I am truly happy and I invite others like me, to explore what this school is all about!!!

I love my job! Very few people are fortunate enough to say that! That being said, a dream job doesn't just fall into your lap, you have to constantly work towards that dream until it becomes tangible. An institution will not grant you success or the dream job, however, Blanche comes pretty close. Out of all institutions I have attended, BMC is the ONE institute that truly cares about the needs of every single student. The career department alone, works hours on end to provide endless job opportunities. It's actually kind of crazy how easy they make the process for students. I now own and operate a successful makeup company which books over 150 weddings per season! I attribute my successes to my hard work and dedication and the institution that carried me through a creative wild journey, BMC. Not only did Blanche provide me with the necessary technical skills, I also received valuable and priceless advice and direction from the career directors. The environment at Blanche is completely different from other institutions I have attended. The instructors and directors are rooting for your success and will go out of their way to ensure your needs are being met. Therefore, if you are willing to work hard and use the resources provided by BMC than there is no reason why you cannot be successful.

I'm nearing the end of my time here at Blanche Macdonald for the global makeup program. I knew coming into it the hard work and amazing experience it would be. Being here, it has been so much more than I expected. The instructors and support team have been amazing. It is heart warming and inspiring seeing professionals in the industry, passionate about helping us to learn and grow. Dedicating their valuable time and skills to help us grow and encouraging people to feed their passion. I've learned so much already and the year has flown by. I've had wonderful opportunities, valuable experiences and have met so many people in one place that are beautiful from within. All of my instructors never let a moment pass without ensuring we understood and felt confident in what we attempted. They're approachable and seeing their excitement and pride in our work was incredible. I look forward to whatever future opportunities I may have and can't imagine ever not being so thankful for the time I got to spend here. It awakened a passion in me I was afraid I had lost and now my greatest struggle is choosing one of so many ideas for each segment. I will continue to suggest Blanche to anyone I come across, it's an uplifting experience, even in the moments it feels overwhelming. It's some serious work at times, but so very worth it and the support system is there in the faculty and advisors.

They were consistently professional, well organized and very enjoyable to work with. They had a team of 10 aestheticians offering manicures to our guests for over 12 hours and they created wonderful guests experiences to each and every person. I was chosen as one of the finalist for the Battle of the Brushes Beauty/Fantasy student make-up competition at the 2015 International Make-Up Artist Trade Show Vancouver B.C. I need to say I didn't do any makeup before I start with this school. And they chose me, even more.... I won. This was wonderful experience!! The school was so supportive and encouraging, more then I could think of. My IMATS practice instructor was Jenna Kuchera who work closely with famous Pat McGrath!! and she gave me a lot of great advise. I can't say anything bad about this school. The career department is amazing, we have a lot of opportunities to volunteer at fashion shows, photoshoots, face painting, even movie/film shooting. There is also a lot of opportunities to start with retail. Instructors are great, they worked with famous celebrities and know their thing. I really recommend Blanche Macdonald to everyone who wants to be a makeup artist!

From Day 1 'til the very end everyone there was very encouraging, understanding, and always there if you needed anything. Attending the Global Makeup Program at Blanche Macdonald was the best decision I have ever made. For a year I was surround by the supplies, environment and staff I needed in order to achieve my full potential as a Makeup Artist. I learnt from the best of the best and I couldn't be more gracious. On top of the incredible and fun year, it finished in the best way. The Director, Tracey, Career Department with Jen and Heather knew that my dad would be flying in to Vancouver on the day of our graduation at 3:15. Knowing this, the amazing ladies postponed the grad by twenty minutes and even stayed back to show my dad my presentation. I can’t say enough good things about Blanche Macdonald School and about the Professional Esthetics Program! I thought because of Covid, it would make things more complicated and next to impossible to get hands on, but boy was I wrong! We are still getting so much hands on! They have all the proper Covid protocols and procedures in place. Then Theory is online - which at first I wasn’t sure about it, but how they do it, I couldn’t see it happening any other way! Plus, they are recorded so you can go back and listen again! This program was more than I had hoped for and I couldn’t be happier. The amount of information that is given to us, really makes us prepared for the real world out there! Not only is the program so amazing, the teachers and staff are remarkable :) Everyone there wants to help in any way they can and they want you to succeed!! Two months later, with the help of the career department and along with their encouragement I am now part of the internship for Make Up For Ever helping out for the Christmas seasons. I have also participated in student photos shoots that I got to experience collaborating with stylist and photographers. I am learning so much in class everyday. Everything I learn is relevant to the field. I feel that the more I learn the less know, it is overall a very humbling experience. I can’t wait to discover what is yet to come. It was hard to be an MUA right after graduate, but things will go better if you keep doing it. Blanche Macdonald Centre has truly been a life changing experience for me. As a stay-at-home mom, a year ago I would have never imagined that I would've propelled myself through a passion that I've had for many years but never thought I'd do. I took the 'Freelance Makeup Program' at Blanche Macdonald. Recently, graduating with a Honors Associates Diploma. I've been exposed to amazing teachers that are really involved in the industry of makeup artistry aside from the parameters of teaching in the classroom. The schools Directors are extremely supportive and accessible. My best advice to anyone wanting to pursue any of the programs that Blanche has to offer, is to push yourself to take advantage of all the opportunities and experiences provided for you in the safety and comfort of the facility. Do not underestimate the power of networking and building strong relationships, and always keeping a strong positive attitude. Success is what you make of it. For myself, I took advantage right away of the opportunity to volunteer downstairs at Curlique Beauty, taking 'The Advance Retail Training Program' which is a 6 Module Work Practicum. In my opinion, a definite must for everyone in any of the makeup programs. There is so much more to be said about my experience but I'll leave it up to you to adventure through and experience yourselves. All I can say overall, is the support and love at Blanche Macdonald Centre is infectious, and I'm excited to have their continued support in my makeup career.

I really feel that graduating from this school has opened so many doors for me in beauty or film industry. BMC is really famous in North America, even in China. When I started the Global Makeup program at Blanche I thought I already knew a lot about makeup, BOYYYY was I wrong! I have learnt TONS of things I had no idea about that have changed the way I look at doing makeup & makeup in general. The teachers I have had so far have all been INCREDIBLE! True, talented artists who work or have worked in the industry and know what they are talking about & know how to effectively communicate their knowledge and transfer their skills to us students! From fundamentals with the lovely Lesley to Fashion with Jon (who is literally so incredible I can't even word it, I am SOOOO grateful to have learnt from him) I have felt welcomed in all of the modules that I have been in! For a few weeks I had to split from my class to make up the airbrushing unit with another class on the opposite schedule. I was so worried I'd be all alone in this new class over the course of airbrushing, however, Ashley & all of the students in the class were so kind & so welcoming! I've actually become very close with a bunch of the girls that I took that class with & we still talk and hang out even though I'm no longer with their group! The point is, Blanche is incredibly welcoming from the Teachers to the students! One of the biggest highlights for me has been Heather & Jen in the career office. They are SO supportive & always there to lend an ear and help with volunteer work and career advice! I love being able to go up and show them the crazy creations I whip up in class! There are so many incredible people at Blanche who I LOVE & who have made me feel so welcome! Jaylene, Tracey, the girls at Curlique! Everyone is just amazing!!! I could honestly sit here and write all night about how much I love Blanche, What I love about it and how I changed my life, but my story isn't going to be yours, so if you are thinking about attending Blanche, DEFINITELY DO & see for yourself how incredible this school is!

I completed my schooling here in November 2014 from the Hair Program. Everyone here is super friendly and are willing to work with you to make you a better individual. Communicate with them and they will work with you as best as they can. The only thing I will have to say is that the instructors do have their different opinions on how to do certain things on the clients or even in general. I have experienced where I did something that my instructor taught me in class and when I did the same thing on a client, I was told i was doing it "wrong" by another instructor. I had to walk away from the situation and then believe in my skills and I know people where taught differently and the way I did it worked for me and made sense to me. Thanks Blanche for everything! Attending Blanche Macdonald was truly life changing for me. The instructors and all the staff are incredibly supportive and truly want you to succeed! I have been out of school for a year and a half and still receive support from the instructors and career department. I was hired for a job within a week of moving back to Halifax, NS thanks to the advise and help from the career department. Shortly after was able to live out my dream of becoming a MUA for film. Since then I have had the pleasure of being head of make-up department on multiple TV shows and short films, as well as getting to work with Oscar winning actors and other incredibly talented cast and crew on set. I graduated from the Freelance Makeup Program in 2007. At the time I was making the big decision to cross over from regular college courses to beauty. It was very intimidating at first because I had to think of all my options and how successful I could make myself as well as any cons that come with any part of planning your future. Turns out, it was one of the best decisions I've made. I knew soon into the program that this was definitely for me and that it was what I wanted to do for my career. The program itself was great. I appreciated how the courses were paced out and how involved the Blanche MacDonald team was. Not only with the support during school including job boards for potential volunteer work but the effort they put in after we were graduates to help find us work. I always refer to it as the 'Blanche Family'. They helped me find my first cosmetics job and I'm currently working for them at their first retail space - CurliQue. Overall my experience with Blanche MacDonald has been great and would definitely recommend it to anyone that has the drive for beauty!

I graduated from the Professional Esthetics Program in 2015 and really enjoyed the program. Not only did I learn the practical skills of a spa therapist, but I also learned what it takes to succeed and stand out in the beauty industry. Throughout my time at school, there were many challenging moments. I was always able to overcome those obstacles, learn, and grow, thanks to my instructors. My teachers were always supportive, patient, and kind. Simona Gozner (head of esthetics,) sincerely cares about the well-being and success of each student and always has great advice to offer. I took the Global Makeup program and graduated in 2011. It was a wonderful experience, the teachers were great and very personable! Very thorough program for people who have no experience with the beauty world! The career department is amazing! There are so many options in the beauty industry. After two years, they are still helping me with my career path. It definitely is a learning experience for anyone interested in any aspect of the beauty industry! There are many options and all the instructors are always there to help! Just make sure to keep them up to date! :) Make sure to volunteer, because it gets your foot into the door. When your foot's in the door, you have so many options open to you from retail, fashion, weddings, marketing, sales, etc. I was there to learn and develop myself and figure out which part of the beauty industry I want to be in. The program is split into different modules, so you get to try every part of it! You never know, what you thought you would be interested could change when you graduate! My advice is to have fun, do all your assignments, and make friends (with your peers and teachers) and you can't go wrong!

As a current student attending the Global program, I'm enjoying every moment of my time here at Blanche Macdonald Centre. Classes could be challenging, but all the instructors I've met so far were more than willing to help you learn and improve along the way. The educators here are professional, friendly, and incredibly passionate about their subjects of expertise, and they don't hold back on techniques or knowledges when teaching students. You have to be actively participating and putting your best effort in to classes, but all the hard work is truly worth it. School officials are happy to work with students, and they take feedbacks seriously. Why you should not attend Blanche Macdonalds Esthetic/ Spa Therapy program POSTING FOR A FRIEND - I feel the same way— From the beginning of my program it was extremely disorganized. The school is poorly managed with little to no communication between the director and the instructors. Majority of the program there was little to no notice of a schedule or change. The kits we paid $2500 for lack in supplies! My suitcase is worth more than the contents contained within in. Majority was linen. We had to use products during skincare even if we had an allergic reaction, sensitive skin or EVEN grade 3-4 acne and told to just push through it. A specific altercation between one teacher and multiple students led to the director getting involved and DEFENDING the said teachers behaviour. I would like to say there were positives from Blanche very few but there were some. Angie, Cristina and Lilly were my saving grace while attending Blanche and always were checking in on us which will I will forever be grateful for. And I made some pretty amazing friendships during my program as well . I could go on and on about my experiences at the school but overall I would not recommend Blanche Macdonald. Save your time, money and sanity and go elsewhere.

My name is Nouf Rawi, my story with Blanche MacDonald started summer 2014 when I was in New Brunswick. My passion and big dream is always to be a skilled and professional makeup artist and I know I need to study in order to have the right knowledge to build strong base for my dream. I always was thinking and dreaming to be a makeup artist, but meanwhile I was enrolled in the 2nd year of Business Administration with the University of New Brunswick. Summer 2014, I decided to take a makeup summer course with a makeup school in Moncton NB which is 2 hours driving from home. Third week of the course, I received the makeup kit ($1800), but I got chocked and very disappointed. Although they told me that the products have no brand name before registering for the course and I accepted because I have seen some good products with no brand or name for practice. I never expected this very bad quality and the worst part is that the products do not match my color tone and smell bad. At that day my big dream was destroyed and I felt that will be the end of my passion. I decided to withdraw from the course and got only one third back of my tuition, but not a single penny for the products I received. That made me broken, unhappy and totally destroyed because this school is considered one of the best makeup school in New Brunswick. I decided to let go of my dream and instead focus on my undergraduate studies. One month later, my husband noticed that I am still unhappy and he decided to take the challenge to help me achieving my dream. He started looking for the best makeup school in US and Canada and found several schools with high ranking and repetition. He was very picky and very careful to choose the best of all in order to avoid repeating the same story again. He decided to contact Blanche MacDonald before submitting the application and talked to Lise Graham - Managing Director. She is very sweet and good listener. My husband told her all the story and she gave him all the time to hear from him and she promised that I will be taken care off and my dream will be restored. I was accepted for three programs with Blanche MacDonald (Aesthetic, Nail and Freelance Makeup). This is my best beautiful gift ever from my husband. I then had to quit my undergraduate studies and leave my family in New Brunswick .I remember the first day I arrived to Vancouver, September 13, 2014, I right away from the airport to the hotel dropped my luggage and ran to Blanche MacDonald College with all happiness and mixed feeling of everything and when I saw Blanche MacDonald Gate I could not control my tears. I felt and believed I am in the right place to start achieving my big dream. September 17th, 2014 I started taking aesthetic classes for one year program, meanwhile I was enrolled in the nail classes as part time for 3 months. Freelance Makeup classes started January 2015 for six months part time program. I totally enjoyed every single day at this amazing school. The teaching technique is very professional and unique. The school is equipped with all the professional equipment and tools needed for practice. The classrooms are amazing and very organized. Teachers are very experienced with huge background and history to share with students. They are very patients with all the students, I learned many tips and tricks with products and have taught me all the professional skills and techniques. I love Blanche MacDonald Collage. I graduated from Esthetics/Spa Therapy program in April 2016. I am so happy that I've chosen this school. It was personal journey for me. The atmosphere is so different than in the rest of beauty schools and I did serious research about what is available on the market. I think I visited all of them in Vancouver... Instructors are amazing and I think they are the ones who make this school so special. Every each of them has that story behind and that is very inspiring. They give you knowledge and support, some even more than that because they love what they do. They encourage everyone to believe in oneself and many students spread their wings at school. I was so lucky to meet so many instructors! I will miss Cristina, Min, Alina, Ana, Christy, Angie and lovely Simona and I will definitely be going back just to say 'hi' to all of them. During one year period I made so many friends not only from esthetics department but made connections with MUAs and Hair Stylists. If you decide to join Blanche Macdonald Centre, make sure that you expierience everything what they have to offer(hair services, makeup modelling, spa services and all that for free!). Don't be shy to ask for help when you are about to start your career and entering job market! They will do their best to help you. If I could have the chance to go back, I would definitely do that and start over again...and again...and again. Ohhh, I miss going to school!

I graduated from the Nail Program in April 2021, and thought it was a huge waste of time. We did not recieve 2k$ worth of items in our kit (most items are dollar store quality), teachers were rude and unprofessional multiple times, and we didn't recieve the quality of education, or even the curriculum, that Blanch promised during the enrolment process. I, and alot of others in my class, graduated feeling very underprepared in this industry. For 7 thousand dollars for a 6 month program from a "renowned" school, I expected a bit more. Save your money and your time and go to a company's nail classes or someone local for certificates/education!

I thought I'll take some time to personally write a HONEST and in depth review on Blanche Macdonald before I begin my homework for Special Effects! Haha Let me start off by introducing myself. My name is Darlene Grace and I am a International Student from a small country town called Humpty Doo in Darwin, Australia!! Long story cut short I encountered a MASSIVE change in my life last year where everything flipped. I lost two of the most important things in my life and everything changed!! I remember breaking down one evening (November 2013)... I cried myself to sleep for the first time as an adult. We have all experience moments like these. That evening I had a very random but surreal dream that I had booked a one way ticket to the other side of the world to study a diploma in makeup to pursue a career in Film and Television in hopes to one day lead a department of a Feature Film! I remember clearly that my dream told me I would end up in Vancouver, Canada!! I woke that morning to the question.... "Why the bloody heck would I move to the other side of the world!! When I have never met a Canadian or even seen snow??!! With a dream that big??!!" Haha My heart skipped a few beats... and a smile grew on my face. Why wouldn't I do that??!! I jumped out of bed and straight onto the internet and typed in "Number one Makeup School in Canada"! 3 schools came up... I emailed each of them. All 3 replied. It was a difficult decision to make as I didn't have much to go by except for what the Internet told me with reviews like this etc. And then I spoke with one of the directors at Blanche Macdonald. We connected on more than just a director and future student level, it was a bond of some sort that I couldn't quite grasp! She was incredible kind and understanding she helped me in EVERY way possible. All my questions were answered and she genuinely cared!! I was sold. Blanche Macdonald it is!! So I paid for my schooling which was the exact same for International students and Canadians *bonus* and I booked that one way ticket...... My first day of school (April 2014) I was more excited than nervous. That was the day that I met my life long friends!! And received a kit that pretty much made me drool.... haha Then I met my teachers who each melt me in their own special way!! I can't express how incredibly talented they are... Head of Departments of Tron, Xmen, Twilight and so much more!!! I mean really...?? I am being trained by the leaders of our Film Industry?? Teachers that have inspired me......... Fashion teachers that have graced the covers of well known magazines and worked with numerous amount of celebrities such as James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jessica Alba, Rob Schneider etc. Hair teachers that teach you everything from the basic bridal to horns made from hair and bald capping!! I am blown away by their talent and years of expertise.. Overwhelmed because they are sharing it with me and all of the students. I took a leap of faith and booked a one way ticket to the other side of the world. I had no friends, family or a job... Just that crazy dream haha. A dream that has led me to where I am today! International Student at Blanche Macdonald, Part Time Colourist at Sephora and a Freelance Makeup Artist that has worked with numerous amount of Vancouver's most finest photographers and producers! With over 120 wedding bookings this year alone, I am a very busy woman- and I love every minute of it. Success doesn't come from a school- it comes from within. It comes from having the drive to work hard, the passion to learn and the strength to never give up. Moving to Vancouver and attending The Global Makeup Artistry Program at Blanche Macdonald has developed me emmesly as a person. Not only are the instructors knowledgable and experienced in their field of work, they are welcoming with open arms and warm hearts. Every instructor I have had the priviledge of learning along side has been "'my favourite teacher... No seriously I mean it this time!" New module equals new favourite teacher. However, to me, Jen Folk has been more than an instructor. Being far away from home for the first time, she became almost like a mom figure as well as my mentor and friend. Over the past eleven months, I've obtained a skill set that I feel is an excellent foundation for my future endeavours. Blanche Macdonald was a life changing experience for me. For the longest time i always dreamed about being a successful Makeup Artist and to someday have my own beauty line. I went to Blanche right when i was out of High School and took the Freelance Makeup Artst Program. I started to look forward to every class to learn more and build my artistic abilites from the amazing teachers they had presented me with. I remember Janie and Farah were both 2 instructers i had that absolutely pushed and drove me to be the best i could be. I learned so much for them seperately which brought diffrent learning experiences from each class i was in. I left with furthing myself in the industry where i worked at Holt Renfrew for Giorgio Armani for 2 years. Teaching me more so how to build and keep a cliental to further experene myself being my own business manager. With my strong passion for creating my own beauty line, i finally over looked the fear of not being able to and just did it and it is one of the best choices i have ever made. All my dreams, hopes and goals became real and i have never felt more accomplished or driven. I am so honored to say i am a graduate from Blanche Macdonald! I starting in April 2017 for the global makeup program which was for 1 year, I did enjoying it and had a lot of fun. Each of the instructors I had were very nice and informative on their skills which is something that I appreciate from my instructors as It's was very interesting learning new makeup techniques and styles from each one of them. Although I wish in the global program they would add a more in depth bridal module for people who want to go into that buisness. The school also offers a lot of career opportunities for beginners that not a lot of other schools offer which is very helpful when getting started. The tuition is definitely more expensive so I would advise you to do your proper research before you plan on attending the school. Overall to be honest even 4 years later after graduating I am no longer part of the makeup industry as it incredibly hard to turn it into a career but I still do appreciate the time I had and the people I met while attending blanche.

I have to say, my year with Blanche was one of the most stressful, exciting, and rewarding years of my life thus far. The education that you receive through this school is absolutely top notch. The instructors are all very well versed in their field and great at sharing tips and tricks to make your work 10 times better. The growth that I saw in my skill set was mind boggling. The school is very good at making sure you have all opportunities to volunteer within your chosen field. Leaving it the hands of the student to move forward. I love that they give you the chance to be better. It helps to weed out the people whom aren't passionate about this field. Because of the volunteer opportunities given, I was able to snag a job before graduation, and have made connections with photographers for TFP shoots. To those who are seriously considering an education in makeup artistry, I have to tell you that attending Blanche Macdonald Center was the single most important decision I made for my career as an aspiring makeup artist. It is the BEST decision! I attended the Freelance Makeup Program, and subsequently the Global Makeup Program. Meanwhile, I was also in UBC studying Psychology. In the end, with the help and support from the school, my family, and my friends, I was able to graduate UBC on time (in four years), the Freelance Program, as well as the Global Makeup Program all in five years. Being educated in a world-renowned institution gave me a lot of confidence and courage to put myself on the market and land jobs that are otherwise extremely difficult to obtain on my own. It was absolutely the top-quality education, but also most definitely the abundant resources and support I received at Blanche Macdonald that made my journey incomparable and truly valuable! The instructors are all industry leading professionals who are the experts in the field! With every module throughout the course came a new instructor with an incredible résumé and a devoted positive personality. They shared their experiences and know-hows with us generously, and taught us industry essential knowledge thoroughly. The extent to which they are willing to share and connect with me personally – one of the thousands of students they must have – is absolutely remarkable and moving! The anxiety of finding work is inevitable, and it was there even before I enrolled in the school! However, throughout the program, and even long after, the Blanche Macdonald career department continue to tag me in posts on Facebook and include me in threads that contain details to many job opportunities! Also, they reached out to me several times to find out how I am doing, and never ceased to show their love and just how much they care about me! Blanche Macdonald was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Not only are the teachers absolutely incredible at what they do in the classroom, they are also amazing people and are out and about within the industry. I found it very helpful and motivating to chat and learn from people who were working directly in the makeup industry and could help guide me towards my goals. I loved the West 12th Campus, it became a second home to me and I still find myself enjoying it every time I arrive there. Taking the Global Makeup Program was completely daunting as someone travelling across the country away from family for, at minimum, an entire year. Blanche made me feel at home, and like I had family right in the school. I had never in my life enjoyed learning as I did at Blanche and I found myself excited for Midterms and Final Projects because I wanted to prove what I could do and show off what I had learned. I met some of the best friends I’ve ever had at Blanche and could not imagine myself now without them. The person I have grown into at Blanche is amazing, and I don’t think I would be nearly as comfortable or confident in myself without this past year. There are too many people at the school to thank individually as every single teacher, TA, and staff member are exceptionally helpful and genuinely wonderful. I would recommend this school 200%, when I first started researching schools and heard that Blanche Macdonald was the best I wasn’t sure. I now have no doubts, this year changed my life.

As a graduated student from Blanche Macdonald, I can not stop telling you why it was one of the best decision I ever made. Until now I still feel like being part of the school even though it was 7 years ago. Everyone is so friendly and so helpful at B.M.C. I took the international makeup studio course at the time because I had only about 9 months to move to overseas so I was very worried that I wont be able to enroll or being accepted. But one of the directors at the time, Jaye Wong - Klippenstein was able to assist me and she suggested the right program for me. Because of the relationships I built with the directors and instructors, I was able to start my freelance career even before I graduated from, B.M.C. My career in Makeup Artistry expanded further more in the retail environment after returning to Vancouver when I wasn't sure where to start. Again, if it was not because of the help and encouragement of the career director now,Heather Sosa who has not stop checking in with me till now, I wouldn't be able to get hired on the spot when Lancôme Rep was having an interview at B.M.C. The most rewarding part in this journey through B.M.C, was that I found my passion as being an artist and also as being a true business woman that I didn't discover about myself before. I worked with Vancouver Opera, Reality TV shows, Music Shows, Fashions and 4 years in makeup counters such as Lancôme, Nars, Clinique, Cle De Paue at Halts. I grew so much and have became very confident in the past few years where I was able to grow my own business on the side. I realized later that B.M.C has a whole team of staff to help every student to achieve as long as she desires to become successful - wow! They promote students to make sure their students are under care, so I have to say THANK YOU guys so much, it has been a lot of fun and great experiences for me till today.

Much before I enrolled into Blanche, I was able to create a good relationship with the women working there and was given great guidance with the enrolment process which made my choice of the Global Program that much easier. They didn't just help me make my decision to take the leap into the Makeup world comfortably, but constantly kept me excited to the point of my first class. It didn't just end there however, they kept checking on me throughout my program and ensured that I was enjoying and growing as a student as the months wore on. The teachers of all my levels kept me engaged and inspired, showing me how much more there was to makeup & constantly reminding me that I made the right choice to be at Blanche; their guidance & support did not just stop at the end of each of the levels, but still carries as I see them or contact them for help throughout the program. Through my class mates, the ladies working in the career department & teachers I have made many bonds that push me to become more creative and explore much more at Blanche; being an amazing environment to push yourself as an artist. The career department has based itself as a great tool for students at Blanche, providing amazing opportunities that would be difficult to find on your own or otherwise never hear about & they ensure that their will always be things available for you to search for on the facebook page or in the office that will allow you to work and grow successfully as a professional artist. I myself have seen that first hand, being in such an established school it's smart to take the leap into volunteering for any opportunity given ( no matter how scared you may be to begin ) because an outcome you never expected - like a job offer - can often happen. And if not, most of the volunteer experiences teach you something each time either that'll help your professional career, or just inspire you as a person. Often Blanche will put on guest speakers as well, and making the visit is very worth it. You will hear from established artists and get plenty of tips and tricks, but they never cease to leave me in awe and inspire & motivate me to push my creative barriers even further. The program thus far has been fantastic, and although I'm anxious that it may end too soon, your bond as a Blanche Macdonald student does not just end at graduation but carries throughout your career, allowing you to come back to the school & always know you'll have a place to be as an artist and seek support.

Blanche is an amazing school! I attended for the Global Makeup Artistry program, and only in a year I became a certified makeup artist in all aspects. The course touched on everything from Bridal makeup, To airbrushing, to prosthetics. All my teachers were super knowledgable on every aspect of their expertise. I am most interested in fashion; and if you are too, I hope you get a chance to at least know Leah Elliston. Great teacher and great fashion tips! And maybe you'll even be lucky enough to have a class taught by Holland or Dae! I learned everything I needed to learn, but don't think you can be taught everything that makes up the beauty (or gore) industry in school. It takes work and personal experiences to become an even better makeup artist, and Blanche even covers that! Thanks to Heather and Jen in the Career Department, they help students and Grads find Paid/Volunteer work in the industry. I can't thank them enough for how supportive they are to the students success even after they graduate! Also, Q&A salon run by Blanche for their hair students is fab! Had quite a few great haircuts and made friends at the same time????

I could tell a much more detailed rendition of why I have such a great deal of respect for Blanche Macdonald, but here's a compressed version. My "make-up mom" of sorts when I was working in cosmetic retail had just returned from Blanche in 2014 and suggested that I look into the make-up courses since she was confident I'd fall in love; I ordered pamphlets and occasionally looked at them, weighing my options. Two years later, finally realizing I needed a creative push, I called the BMC Atelier and Lise walked me through registration for the Freelance program flawlessly; I was soon VERY excited to make the move to Vancouver and start my courses. I only had class two days a week, but those days were what I looked forward to - it sounds a bit cliché, but the instructors and staff I had met during my time at Blanche are the reason I never wanted to leave. In the most "stars aligned" moment after school had finished, I was brought on as a Q-Talent at BMC's CurliQue Boutique, and it feels like I didn't have to leave, after all. If you've read this out of consideration, and you're a creative soul looking for a family of like-minded people to inspire you, Blanche will quickly become a second home.

Blanche to me is a home away from home. I took the full Makeup Diploma program. Everything from there staff to there classrooms is top notch. My passion and adoration for the make-up world started at a very young age. I would lock myself in the bathroom all the time and secretly play with my mom's make-up when I was a little girl (even though my parents firmly said that I wasn't allowed to on numerous occasions). My parents had their dreams set of me becoming a doctor, a nurse, a lawyer or an accountant but I had my own dreams! The day I met with Mrs. Katsionis, my grade twelve coordinator to talk about my post-secondary plans, I told her, “My parents want me to go to UBC or SFU but I really don't think university is for me. I love art...I enjoy drawing, painting and doing creative things with my hands!” Then she said, “What about taking up a trade? Have you considered becoming a make-up artist? Or perhaps a hair stylist? I always see you come to school with your hair and make-up beautifully done! There's a cosmetology school at City Square, just a few blocks away called Blanche Macdonald. Schedule a meeting to visit and learn more about the school.” After my meeting with Mrs. Katsionis, I took her advice and scheduled a meeting to speak with Suzanne Dol, my admissions director. We met the following week, exchanged a few personal stories, spoke about my interests, my dreams, my short term/long term career goals and that is where my journey at Blanche Macdonald Centre began. I fell in love instantly with the school, enrolled shortly after and started the make-up program in the fall of 2005. It's been almost 10 years since I graduated from Blanche Macdonald and I do not regret my decision one bit! Just like I told my former Stage, TV & Film Make-Up instructor, Jen Rothfelder, “I wish I was a current student at the school because Blanche Macdonald Centre and its' programs have evolved so much since I graduated!" The quality of education offered at BMC is top-notch and industry relevant taught in a positive learning environment from highly skilled and knowledgeable instructors! I've grown a lot since then, both personally and professionally. I used to be known as the shy, quiet one but I've flourished over the years into a social butterfly! And even though I've bounced between careers in the fashion and healthcare industries, my freelance make-up career has continued to remain and grow with me! Once you become apart of the Blanche Macdonald family, you're never forgotten! I've maintained lifelong friendships with so many people from my days as a Blanche Macdonald student and now I get to call my former peers and instructors my colleagues. Hi, my name is Tenika Gordon. I’m currently a student at Blanche Macdonald in the Global Artistry Makeup Program. I can honestly say it’s by far one of the best schools I’ve had the pleasure of attending. The instructors have some of the most incredible resumes and are still very active in the industry. It’s a great feeling to know that you are being taught by the best. The small class sizes provide you both, individual and quality time with your instructors. Blanche Macdonald really blew me away with the quality and quantity of products included in the makeup kits. During the year, you will be given five kits to work with. The school is an amazing place where inspiration and creativity roam free, where you never have to look far for some truly exciting works of art. The staff at Blanche treats you like fellow makeup artists which is very encouraging. I attended the Esthetics program at Blanche and graduated with top marks in 2006. It was one of the best years of my life. The teachers were fantastic and I made lots of great friends that I am still in touch with today. This program covered everything a makeup artist needs to know on set to be prepared and successful. This course pushed me creatively much more than I bargained for, which is a good thing. i graduated from blanche in july 2013 from the global makeup program. i have had a wonderful experience. i have meet some awesome friends and had an adventures year. The teachers were very nice and always there to answer all your questions. i was a very shy girl at blanche never really had the courage to go out and volunteer, but the career department helped me find some amazing volunteer work and motivated me to go and do what i love doing. i am planning to go back and take the nail program to pursue further into the beauty industry because i know blanche will provide everything to help me be successful and i know the the teachers will provide all the knowledge and information that i need. i would recommend this to my friends and family! its a awesome place to learn, network and have fun !!

I graduated a few years back from the Global Makeup Course and I am very pleased to say that this school has helped me step by step chisel out a place for myself in this industry. The instructors are all extremely helpful and I miss them so much. Shout-out to CJ whose strictness helped me keep my eyes on the prize, so to speak and I really attribute a lot to her when it comes down to teaching me skill as well as eloquence when it comes to dealing with clients. I really feel that graduating from this school has opened so many doors for myself as how many employers know the name of Blanche off the bat and go out of their way to hire a Blanche Graduate over many others. I recommend this school to anyone wanting to forge a name for themselves in this industry or even someone who has the money to spare that wants to learn every last detail they possibly can about makeup. My only regret is that I cannot afford to go through this school once more to learn from other teachers that I did not get to have! EDIT: Even now, about 7 years after graduating I STILL receive support from the teachers at this school when it comes to applications and career decisions. Blanche was an excellent place to learn everything from basics makeup application to special fx makeup and I am proud to say that I have gone from a makeup fob to a professional makeup artist. It was great to have instructors who are all currently in the industry as top tier makeup artists; I was given a lot of important and helpful tips and techniques as well as learning about the industry, hearing about their personal experiences and knowing what is current in the industry. They were incredible instructors and is probably one of the best part about Blanche Macdonald. Aside from all the amazing instructors, classes, etc, one thing that makes Blanche beyond amazing is its career department. The instructors are super talented and passionate and this rubs off on you. We had Todd McIntosh come in for us just recently to do a demo, as well as speak to us all about the industry. Blanch MacDonald was a great experience from start to finish. Students are treated with respect, and there is a tremendous amount of support from the Blanche community throughout your time as a student, and far extends past graduation. The ladies in the Careers department are constantly working to provide both students and graduates with volunteer and job opportunities in different areas of the industry. The teachers are also extremely supportive and honest when critiquing student work. That being said, you get what you put into it. If you are driven and want to succeed as an artist, you must demonstrate your passion and challenge yourself. I am currently having my global makeup program in Blanche MacDonald. I think the courses are well designed and managed. We get to learn and practice many different techniques of makeup and hair. The best thing I like about Blanche is that we learn from different instructors who are very experienced in the industry in every modules, so we can get ideas of various ways and perspectives of makeup. Instructors and our career department are always there to help us while we have any problems. We always get many volunteer opportunities to actually do makeup and hair for fashion shows, films, photo shoots, or stage performances, which is really helpful for gaining experience! Overall, in my opinion, Blanche is defiantly the school worth going if you want to get good training as MUA here. I am having a good learning experience here. :-)

I took the Global Makeup Artistry program because I thought it would be great to know all kinds of makeup and develop different makeup skills and I definitely did not regret it. They really teach you everything they could from basic skills, their personal techniques, to trouble shooting when you're facing a problem on set. My experience at Blanche Macdonald far exceeded my expectations. I could go on and on easily when speaking of how well trained their graduates are and how ready they make us for the industry, however I believe something needs to be said about the team that gets us from students to graduates. I remember from day one everyone I encountered along the way always said someone would be available at any point in time to help with whatever was needed. This couldn't be more true and I am beyond grateful. I never felt lost at any point in time. From student loan help to finding the right career path to simply just listening when the work load felt heavy. And I have since graduated and they have kept all their promises of getting me ready, helping me find the right place of employment to continuing to nurture when needed or desired. I would highly recommend Blanche Macdonald to anyone that wanted to pursue a career in any of the fields they offer. I attended Blanche Macdonald from 2020-2021, in their Esthetics program. I’m at a loss of words trying to describe how awful this school is. All they care about is taking your money and leaving you with a lack of education. Their Esthetics program is severely mismanaged and nobody knows what’s going on most of the time. The entire time I attended I did not once receive a schedule. Most days we wouldn’t find out what we were doing until the morning of and many times we had to change due to scheduling problems. The director is always out of the office and when making an attempt to contact her through her email you rarely get a response. Their training is outdated as well as a handful of their instructors. These instructors are not up to date in the industry and are still teaching as if it’s was the 80’s. Kits provided were lacking in quality and materials forcing students to go out and spend even more of their own money even though we paid for a full kit. They also mark up the kits 100% on top of what they paid for the materials and sell it back to students at double the price. Half of the services promised to learn were apparently removed from the program due to Covid (which I might add is one of their favourite excuses to use when it comes to complaints) We were threatened by our instructors on various occasions, and many students were forced to continue performing services while crying and quite visibly upset. When we would reach out to make a complaint we would be quickly silenced with threats such as “just remember who will be writing your references at the end of the day”. Students who had constant allergic reactions to products were also forced to continue despite being covered in hives, welts and even bruised and bleeding. I wish I hadn’t wasted my money here. Their website says #1 school is Canada which is the biggest load of BS I’ve ever seen. Their website is also very misleading in many aspects. Take your money elsewhere and actually get a proper education. For half the cost of this place

I cannot say enough about Blanche MacDonald. The program has been wonderful, the campus is great but the faculty is the best part. The connections to the industry are amazing. There are always opportunities to work and gain experience and apply what you learn. I would highly recommend Blanche to anyone serious about the industry.

As an international student from Osaka, Japan I always had an interest in making people happy through beauty. I challenged myself to learn something new and decided to pursue this goal. Unfortunately English wasn't a language that I wasn't very comfortable with. During the beginning, I was always very scared and nervous of my poor English, but with time I came to realize that everyone at BMC was very kind and understanding. My classmates and instructors helped me a lot even during the time when I lost my way and couldn't get to school. Thanks to all their support and love I realized how much of a family they had become. Now as a graduate I am already working in the industry. The instructors trained me well and I have a lot more confidence in my skills. Our instructors are not only helping me to learn different artistries, they are also guiding me to discover my talents that I never thought about it before. Our study is covered by foundation/beauty makeup, fashion makeup, body paint, makeup for Film, Theater and TV, SFX makeup and prosthetic. Everything that I learned provides a substantial foundation for my own creation. I really appreciate the freedom that Blanche gave to us in order to discover and create our own design. They provide enough information and opportunity that I need for planning my career path; furthermore, they offer students opportunities to make connection with the industry after they graduated. If you are interested in the esthetics program, I suggest you go anywhere else! I wish I had as the entire program is very unorganized and they do not give you any sort of schedule while constantly saying you need to be flexible due to “covid”. They change things and class times with less than 48 hours notice, never give you a heads up when you will be preforming waxing and also don’t plan the day throughly at all. So many things are inconsistent and if you bring up any issues you will be bullied into staying quiet.

I enrolled into Profesional Esthetics/ Spa Therapist Program in March 2020, just before the pandemic. I was a little bit concerned at the beginning as I wasn't sure what to expect during this difficult times, however the way BMC handled the situation, far exceed my expectations. We were quickly switched into online courses for about a month during the lockdown, and then slowly went back to campus for practice. There are very strict Covid protocols and procedures in place and I always felt very safe. The teachers, instructors and staff are absolutely amazing. They are very passionate, and will go beyond and above to help you succeed. Each teacher/ instructor has a special place in my heart (Cristina, Simona, Azita, Gurloz, Jen, Benny). Blanche doesn't teach you how to do makeup, it teaches you how to become a Makeup Artist. Everything from putting on eyeshadow, to how to treat a client! I learnt so much in school, teachers are amazing, the program is extremely detailed and complete, and even though not everything made sense right away, eventually with practice everything clicked. Even sometimes I find myself doing makeup and remembering stuff and being like "Oh I remember "x" teacher saying something about this, I know what she meant now!". I can't speak for everyone, but for me Blanche was not only my makeup school, it was one of the most amazing experiences I've had! Not a day goes by that I don't remember about my time there, I even keep in touch with some classmates haha It was simply the best!

I'm international student and taking Global makeup here. First of all I really want to say BMC's instructors are super kind and always help to figure out things which i couldn't understand and so on. Before decided to come here, I planed to study makeup in NYC, and it's my dream when i was 18. So I went to NYC for joined school tour. But my friends told me VC has such a great school for makup. So I came to join school tour, then I decided to come and applied to enter school at the same day. I never regret to choose this school even tho my dream was in NYC. Each program has different structure, so I learned a lot. During be in school, I feel time flies fast. It means I have a full life. For international people, if you come here, you never feel lonely or something negative thing, Because I got great classmates, instructors and lots of homework as well.hahaha And also people who be in BMC are absolutely positive. I am currently attending Blanche Macdonald, I am in the global program. I have attended a previous school for makeup in Calgary. It doesn't even compare to what I've learned at Blanche. I am about half way done the program. The volunteer experiences that I've had in just the last couple months through the career department have been amazing. They understand it's a difficult industry to be apart of and help you as much as possible every step of the way. The instructors are people who are actually working in the industry. I am interested in TV and film and getting the chance to pick the brain of artists working in the industry daily is something I wasn't expecting to get it. The knowledge and passion that they share everyday makes me feel more confident in the education I'm receiving. The freedom with designs and projects is amazing. I get complete creative freedom with assignments. If you are working on a project outside of school the instructors always try there best to help. I am only half way done and have learned more than I could've ever imagined. I absolutely love Blanche Macdonald.

I knew very little about professional nail care prior to the nail pro program and as a recent graduate I look back and I clearly see how I quickly grew in skill and knowledge as the program progressed. Best advice I can give to future students is to practice on as many people as possible because every person will present you with different challenges. I have taken some of my nail issues to my instructors who have years of industry experience and they have given me invaluable advice and tips. Thank you Christy for giving me the best advice for keeping gel polish on oily nail beds! The school will post volunteer opportunities for you as well so keep an eye out for these. You will also get access to job postings almost immediately and I would read these throughout your program to learn about the industry and to prepare for potential employment opportunities. The instructors and faculty are 100% there for you and I can say from experience that the support and guidance does not end once you graduate. I sought advice from the director, who has an open door policy and an incredible passion for the school and beauty industry, and received so much assistance it was beyond anything I expected. As they say… once you become a student, you are now a member of the Blanche and Macdonald family!

Its hard to summarize my experience at Blanche, I moved from Toronto to Vancouver in order to attend Blanche Macdonald, and subsequently I was terrified. I am a recent graduate of the Freelance Makeup Artistry diploma program at Blanche Macdonald Centre. As a mature student who had been on a completely different career path up until a year ago, I have to say I feel like Blanche was the sanctuary I was looking for and the positive support system I had been lacking previously outside my family. I have always loved makeup. From watching my Mom apply hers when I was just a little girl to playing and experimenting with my own. I knew that it was something I always wanted to do, but maybe was too scared to jump into, especially living on my own in the big city! I had met with the school a couple of years back, but perhaps timing wasn't right and maybe I wasn't ready, but when I got back in touch last fall, not only did they remember me, but helped me in any way they could to make this a reality for me. From the administrators who helped me get into the school, to the teachers, who are all prominent and active in the industry with the relevant knowledge and expertise to pass along; to the career department who from the start encouraged me to get involved and who continue to offer support, I am very grateful. I truly feel like this is something I can build my life around and make a career of, and that's only because I have seen and learned from the successors of Blanche and know that it's possible. As I got more into the curriculum, I started to see my confidence grow in not only my skills, but in myself. Learning and working with teachers such as Jon Hennessey, Daemon Cadman and Fiona Kennedy to name just a few was truly inspiring and I hope to join their illustrious company someday as I build my own career...and who knows maybe even pass on my knowledge one day to the next generation of artists.

When I started at Blanche Macdonald I didn't know what to expect. Going to a makeup school was never something I saw myself doing because I thought it was more of a hobby but since then it has become my passion. Blanche is a very well run school with teachers who are not only passionate but are also very helpful and nice. There hasn't been a day where I've had a bad time or lost interest in what module I was in. I came to this school knowing I wanted to do TV and film and if you know what you want to get into the teachers are very helpful and will tell you what you need in order to succeed in that path. Even if you are at the end of the course and still have no idea the teachers doors are always open for you to pop in and talk to help you begin to figure it out. I am almost at the end of my one year program and it saddens me every day knowing that by the end of this month I will be finished. Going to this school I also got the opportunity to work on a couple short films and have my dreams begin to come true, I also got to see my name roll up on the credits for the very first time of my life. I cannot thank the teachers enough for all the love, help and support because if it wasn't for them and this school I would still be at home wishing I was doing what I am doing now.

I completed the Freelance Makeup Artistry program at Blanche MacDonald in November 2014, which is 6 months and two days (12 hours) a week. Overall, I got a lot out of this program and feel prepared to begin a makeup career in bridal, fashion or cosmetic retailing. Honestly, the only regret I have is not taking the full year Global Program and that's only because I would loved to have learned more. That being said, the Freelance Program allowed me to work full time and maintain my family obligations which was absolutely wonderful. I had some standout instructors who were passionate and brought a wealth of knowledge from years of practical experience working in the makeup industry. This is definitely one of those programs where a lot of what you get out of it depends on what you put into it. However, Blanche MacDonald gives you the tools and resources to be successful if you want to use them. The gem of this program is the amazing career centre. The support and insight they offer is almost as important as the classes themselves and the volunteer opportunities allow you to test your skills while networking in the real world. I lived in BC before attending this program, but for anyone thinking of relocating, Vancouver is a gorgeous city full of a variety of makeup opportunities. The school also has a great resource for students moving to Vancouver and looking for accommodations or roommates.

Jen and Tracy were super supportive with my schedule As a single mom , helping me to balance out my summer so I could have more time with my kids and organizing my schedule so I could double up on some classes to finish early and not have to pay for extra childcare in summer. Just finished the Makeup Fundamentals module for the Freelance makeup artistry program and I must say that I am extremely happy with my decision in choosing Blanche Macdonald for my makeup school. Lesley was my instructor for this module and she is the best!!! When I first started learning I could not even hold a makeup brush without my hand shaking. Doing makeup on someone else was a completely new experience for me and Lesley has helped me every step of the way to gain confidence in myself and do what I love doing. She made coming to class fun and it became a place where we could explore our creative side. People are noticing my work and I have been receiving a lot of positive reviews. Also at Blanche they teach you how to market yourself and negotiate with clients which I think is a crucial component for Individuals wanting to start their own business. Jen and Heather are a great part of Blanche as they help you to showcase your work on their Facebook site and they also help you to get volunteer/ work opportunities. They give me guidance and answer the many questions I always have. All the directors/ staff at Blanche give you so much support and encouragement! This is like my second home. I have met so many wonderful people and built geniuine friendships here with people who share the same passion as I do. Overall, I am extremely happy with Blanche and if anyone is wondering which school is good, hope my review helps! I can't wait to start the Bridal Module!!! Super excited :)

Zero stars! Don't waist your time and money. I graduated in 2009 from the makeup diploma program. i was told it was $10,000 but it turned out to be closer to $16,000 with all the extra cost of shopping lists and photoshoots you have to have after every module. What's even worse, I have yet to receive a copy of my diploma. I called numerous times and was told the director of the school would call me back and never did. Then I left her a voicemail on her direct line and never once got a call back. I was ignored because i already graduated and am no longer a paying student. On top of that, The school director would only offer makeup jobs/gigs to the male students and favor them and never give the rest of the students attention or an opportunity to shine.

I'm currently a student in the global makeup course, and I am due to graduate this November. When I first started this course I had ZERO clue about makeup. I didn't know contour, highlights, how to make a bruise, what a "honey wagon" was or how to operate an airbrush.....ok, I didn't know what an airbrush even looked like! My point is, that this course builds you from the ground up. Some people said they thought it was a money grab, they got no work from it etc etc, but to be frank, you get what you put in. Within a month of completing my first module I had gotten hired by MAC, now I am working in the TV &Film industry and I'm nearly half way to joining the union. I haven't even graduated yet. The best things about this course is that all the teachers are very active in the industries whether it be retail, bridal, fashion, tv/film or prosthetics; they have an unparalleled support system for while you are a student AND after you graduate; the kits are fantastic (I love my zuca 4eva); and you get a full education meaning it covers everything. The worst thing about the school is that there is no Tim Hortons in the mall, and that is honestly my only complaint. I am not getting paid to endorse this school, I don't work for the school, I just show up. Early. And do my work. This was the best investment I could ever have made.

I wanted to write a review due to my very disappointing experience at Blanche Macdonald they do not measure up to their reputation. Throughout the course of my year there I received little support, they have little to no organization when it comes to their students and if you send an email or have any problems don’t expect a reply. Myself and my classmates were constantly frustrated with the system in place at the school, they do a great job at talking the talk but when it comes to walking the walk they fail. There is no consistency in the way they handle their business and no proper protocols in place. On top of the little organization on the office side, I attended the aesthetician program and have numerous occasions of feeling unsafe and uneducated. For example when learning laser the teacher in class pulsed the laser light in front of the entire class(not everyone has goggles on) because she neglected to have the safety on the machine. She then pretended it never happened. When I raise my concern to the teacher and director I was told that “she has a sore knee”. Which of course has no relevance. Overall I am very disappointed with my experience and if I could get a refund and take another course I 100% would take that option and I’m not alone. Save your money !!!!

I met with Josephine to learn more about Blanche and what they had to offer and was immediately greeted with a hug! She took the time to get to know me and what I was looking for and introduced me to several teachers and allowed me to visit each class to see what a day at Blanche looked like! Starting this program, I barely knew anything about makeup other than “Instagram” makeup but I knew I wanted to do art as a career since I was a child. I am a graduate of the Blanche Macdonald Aesthetics program at the Cambie campus and a graduate of the Hair Program at the Robson campus. I graduated with the highest marks and the highest salon worksheet. I am presently a student in the Barber course at Blanche Macdonald. I was a student of the two campuses. When I first was looking for a school to attend, I did a lot of research on the different schools in B.C. for aesthetics and hair. I am so happy with my decision to have attended a school with such high standards and professionalism. Initially, corresponding to Lise Graham and the time she spent with me and my parents made me confident that Blanche Macdonald was the school for me. I first attended the year program in aesthetics. I met some great friends and was among some of the best teachers in the Country. After graduating, I wanted to pursue the hair dressing program. I loved the program so much. To have hands on and work with teachers who are so engage and enthusiastic, makes you really want to be like them. I am continuing now into the Barbering program. I am so happy to have attended such a professional school like Blanche Macdonald where I get to learn from some of the most Talented and Professional teachers in the industry. Absolutely loved taking the global makeup program at Blanche in 2018. All of my teachers were amazing and really gave hands on training and advice relevant to the current industry because most of the teachers here still work in the industry! Learned so much in my year there but really have to thank Jordy for all my knowledge in the cosmetic retail and resume class where we got taught proper industry etiquette which still helps me today, LucyAnne for the amazing fashion classes she teaches that really helped me perfect my skills, learn new and effective techniques and learn to look really closely at my work to make sure it’s at its best. Leanne who was my special f/x teacher was so knowledgeable and incredibly talented, really learned so much from her as I had no knowledge in special f/x and now feel very confident in my skills. Along with amazing classes Blanche offers the best support with a housing department that helped me find a roommate and a place to live when I first moved to Vancouver. Also Heather and Jen from the amazing career department that constantly provide me with volunteer and career opportunities both when I was in school and continuously to this day, even helping me land a job at MAC Pro right after graduation. Many makeup schools in the city but Blanche is the best choice, you won’t regret making the choice to take your classes here!

I am a current fx makeup student at Blanche, and I just wanted to share my experience so far. The atmosphere for one, is full of creativity and inspiration! I can't even count the number of people that have inspired me and pushed me as an artist. All the instructors are all so talented, and so hands on, I can't imagine learning from anyone else! They all have their own techniques, but at the same time are all relevent figures in the industry. The course content too is so extensive - there's a reason people travel from all over the world to take this program! You learn everything you need to know to get into the film industry, and what better place to do it, than in Hollywood North! I graduate in three months, and as this chapter is coming to a gradual close, I can honestly say, I feel I have had an amazing experience that has lead me to many opportunities! What more can you ask for in a school?

From the very beginning the admission staff and Global make up team of teachers at Blanche MacDonald were such an amazing, kind, caring compassionate group of people. From Start to Finish... Our journey started Summer of 2019, my daughter and I got the opportunity to tour the school . My daughter was still in high school and did not graduate till June2020. Throughout the year of high school the admissions team was ALWAYS there for me as I asked a million questions and we knew this is the place she needed to go to. LOL !Finally, she graduated from high school and was ready to head to Vancouver to go to Blanche MacDonald and start the Global makeup program... Super Excited especially coming from another province and during COVID... My daughter graduated with honors from the Global Make up program in August of 2021. As a parent of the student who lived in another province, the admissions team and her teachers were so incredibly supportive for her and for myself... I could go on forever talking about Blanche MacDonald and how truly grateful we are to have had the opportunity to attend this amazing school and most importantly have these staff a part of lives past, present and future.

I was debating if i should write the review or not for months now. I don't like to write bad reviews, but i don't want for people to pay money for the course they get very little out of. Anyway, If u want more detailed information, message me on Facebook but for now: not worth it. You don't get enough knowledge when you finish. There's no way you would be able to get a job after you are done with the course. I actually didn't do too bad at the course, but that is just not good enough. I liked the natural nail part of the program; the instructor was great. For the artificial part, it was COVID times, but there was just not enough attention and supervision for all of us. Research nail artist in your area before you commit to invest money in certain course. There are some amazing nail artists that offer courses that are cheaper and you will gain so much more with one on one experience or with being in a smaller class:)

I have just recently graduated the Esthetics program at the Blanche Macdonald Centre. It has been an amazing experience filled with top not educational and self discovery. Blanche offers exceptional education in spa treatments, product knowledge, industry knowledge and trends. The instructors have lots of experience, are very imformative, supportive and are always there to help us and make sure we leave as confident leaders in the industry. At school we get to learn about a wide variety of treatments of industry relevant knowledge above and beyond a basic esthetics program such as thai massage, ayurveda, nutrition and yoga. We are also inspired an guided on all the different areas we can take our careers with this education. The best part is once we leave we always have continual support from the Blanche Macdonald staff in career development and other means to help us be successful. If you love to help others and are ready for a positive change in your life I would reccommend this school in a heart beat.

Future nail students PLEASE READ THIS. If I could give 0 stars I would. I attended the nail studio program thinking I would come out knowing how to do acrylic nails…. Nope. The course is 6 months and almost $7000 and in that 6 months we spent 3 classes doing acrylics on each other. Not only does my teacher not even do acrylic nails professionally, but she didn’t even know how to do ombré nails or any popular trends. I left every single class of the artificial portion upset and regretting choosing this school. I asked for a refund but was told it was too late, if I had done the artificial portion first I would’ve asked for a refund IMMEDIATELY, but because I started with the natural nail portion it was too late by the time I realized how AWFUL this program is. The kit is $1080 but when we searched up the products we realized that it should’ve costed about half of that. I asked for an itemized receipt for our kits and was told that the cost includes “the unlimited supplies we use in class”…. Aka we’re paying $1k for hand lotion, files and buffers. Since my classes were during the pandemic we had to work with on the same partner for 6 months which developed a major anxiety for me anytime I tried working on a new client. We were given mem monomer which NO ONE uses in the real world, so after finishing we had to teach ourselves how to use Ema which was rly challenging. Honestly we had to teach ourselves majority of the things to do with acrylic because like I said, we spent only 3 classes out of 3 months of the artificial portion doing acrylic. ALSO one of the artificial teachers is literally allergic to monomer so she would come into my class and tell us to put it away. WHY are you teaching ppl how to do acrylic nails if you’re allergic to it?!?! Finally, one of the other students in my class was approached not even a MONTH after we graduated asking her to become an instructor… we hadn’t even gotten our certificates yet, but the school thinks she is qualified enough to teach other people? Overall a rly rly bad experience and a huge waste of money. Pls do not go to this school, all they care about is money. They put 16 students plus a teacher in a very small room during a global pandemic, they do not care about our safety they just care about running their business. PLS CHOOSE SOMEWHERE ELSE. Multiple students from my class have now paid to do courses with ACTUAL nail techs, and I myself am also redoing nail school from someone who is qualified to teach me.

"Thanks for NOTHING!" - if there was a title that should be it. Booked an appointment for a full hair color 2 WEEKS in advance. The receptionist ask me how long my hair was, what service i wanted and if ive had my hair colored before. Was booked and confirmed on a weekend at 0930am and was told i should go to Q&A Hair Salon. I went and was 15 mins early, I went to the side door and a sign says they open at 10am although I have an appointment at 0930am. But I saw some ladies inside the building which attaches to Curlique. Good thing the door was open and I went in for my appointment. After I sat down the student ask me how i wanted my hairCUT done. I told her I booked for a full hair colour. She was confused and wanted to double check. She also told me that they are short on people and how people called in sick and are fully booked. The teacher spoke to me and she also seemed confused and gave me an explanation that for a hair colour it will take hours and another student repeated the same thing too how they are short on people. So the teacher told me they have to cancel my appointment. I asked them if theres another time but nope they dont. Asked if i can rebook then told me i have to go to their campus receptionist to book. Basically there was no option at all. I was already getting agitated and pissed to the point that i just wanna get out of there bec my time is wasted. I dont blame the teacher or the students that my appointment was messed up and how short they are and how booked they are, i understand that, you dont need to tell me twice. What i'm pissed is the incompetence of the receptionist or whoever booked me (a guy's voice for sure). I didnt even get an email or a reminder call for my appointment. MOST salons even a hair school will call in advance to remind you. Because it makes more sense if you remind a client so when they come in there is no confusion between the client and the stylist. Or if there's any screw up they can call the client BEFORE the appointment. You're not wasting the clients, teacher and students time figuring out what's going on. It was a big disappointment and a waste of my time, waking really early and driving from Richmond to downtown Vancouver and get NO SERVICE.

I can say that Blanche Macdonald is truly a great school. The teaching staff and administration especially have been nothing but helpful to me. Just the other day I had my Special FX final and the day of my final at 530am my model unfortunatly cancelled on me when I had to start my makeup at 9am! I panicked, and luckily Heather Sosa the amazing woman she is really took the time and effort to go look for a model for me! My biggest takeaway was the unparalleled support system offered by the admissions team (student loan help, etc.), instructors and career department. I absolutely loved my time here. I cannot express how wonderful some of my instructors were- I still think of Janella Churchill when I head to a TV/Film project! Without her preparation, tips and tricks I wouldn't have felt confident navigating my first film set (special thanks for bringing in her kit to let me dig through and see what to bring!)! Last year, when I decided to attend the school, I did not know if it would be a wise choice, considering I was still studying my master degree in Victoria at that time. I commuted every weekend to Vancouver to attend the class, with a hope that this learning experience would make a difference to my life. After 3 months since I started my freelance makeup artistry program, I was recruited by Lancôme as a member in the makeup artist team. Later, I met Shiseido's rep and got another freelance job in the company's high-end line Clé de Peau Beauté, which I am still working with now. I can see more work opportunities coming up, each time with a better offering. I am so proud to be a blanche macdonald Nail Parlour graduate for so many reasons.. I had researched for years and years on beauty schools, trying to make the best fit for me.. i finally decided on blanche as i started my beauty career taking the nail tech parlour program. I was terrified as i am a mature student with a very busy life of work and family. as i started my education at blanche, i became aware of the amazing support this school offers you, i had not been in a school setting for over 20 years and quickly became overwhelmed with work, life family, and school.. my first instict was to throw in the towel , than i spoke to the director simona and she gave me options which enable me to continue with my education. The teachers and all other staff are unbeliebable.. every teacher at this school is extremely talented, caring and have such passion for the beauty industry..they all are or have been salon owners and really know the industry in and out. that alone inspired me to continue..These ladies really work hard for you the student. because of them i stayed and graduated two weeks ago. my life now has changed in so many amazing ways! i am opening my own nail and lash room this month i have also been hired by the bay canada for dyson canada .. and all this because i choose to volunteer at their beauty events that blanche offers!! my talent and hard work didn't go unnoticed. Dont waste your time and money attending schools that will not offer you the proper education and support. My name is Misa and I’m from Chiba, in Japan. I always loved beauty, and was very inspired by movie makeup. When I came to Vancouver to study English, I didn’t want to leave- I loved it here! When I decided to stay and finally pursue my passion for Special FX and Prosthetics, I looked in to many schools but knew Blanche’s Global Makeup program would be the best. I had heard that all of the instructors were experienced artists from the industry, and I was so inspired by their stories. I was very scared at first- I was nervous about the language barrier, but everyone was so kind and understanding! They really helped me through learning this new language and developing my communication skills. I loved meeting all of these new people from different backgrounds and how creativity was collaborative with all of my classmates and instructors. The Makeup Career Department was a huge support for me as well. I would meet with Heather every week, and she always so in tune with who I am- what I was and was not comfortable with, what I loved and didn’t like so much. She really understood where I was coming from with my cultural background, and I felt very welcome. I feel so much more developed in my skills! I am now working at BMC’s CurliQue Beauty Boutique as a part of my Co-op program, and I am becoming more confident each day. The CQ team is so nice!

Attending Blanche Macdonald was one of the best decisions of my life! I graduated from the full program in 2015. I have always had a passion for the beauty industry and when I decided I wanted to become a makeup artist I knew Blanche Macdonald was the best school to attend. All of the staff and instructors are amazing at what they do, I really appreciated how all of the instructions treated all students with respect and always had patience while teaching. The program teaches you more than just applying makeup, they teach you about all the different aspects of the industry and what it takes to be an all around great artist. There are so many different career paths as a makeup artist and Blanche Macdonald touches on all of them. All of the ladies in the career department are amazing with helping you reach your career goals.. When I was close to completing the program I had my heart set of working for M.A.C Cosmetics as an artist. Heather and Jen from the career department helped me get to where I wanted and chose me to be one of the few students attending the group interview for M.A.C. They are really great with helping the students and guiding them to their dream careers. I have now been in the industry for 5 years and in that time I have had the privilege to work at M.A.C. as a member of the management team and now I am currently working for the award winning Pink Orchid Studio. Heather and Jen have always been in touch with me even after graduating which really shows how much they care about their students. I am so grateful for being able to attend Blanche Macdonald and being able to have the career of my dreams. The connections and people you meet at this school will last a lifetime. Blanche is an institution very happy to take your money. My daughter applied for the make-up program but the hairdressing program was 'sold' to her over the make-up by the co-coordinator. Make sure you read the enrolment contract very carefully, better still, visit the college before your sign or pay anything. My daughter lost $950.00 without even attending as she changed her mind after a disappointing visit to the Centre after enrolling. Blanche is famous for the make-up program, but do not excel in the others. Shop around before making a decision on Blanche. It is very expensive for what it is.

Deciding to attend Blanche Macdonald for the freelance makeup diploma course was the best decision ever! As an individual with a full time career in play, the freelance program allowed the flexibility to still focus on my career while developing my passion. The instructors I've had in various sections at Blanche have been great and have a lot to offer. They're passionate about what they do and very engaged. As well, the resources that they provide at Blanche Macdonald which includes career support, volunteering opportunities and many networking platforms have been key in gaining more experience in my trade. The resources have been very beneficial in getting my foot in the industry and getting first hand experience. Through different volunteering opportunities, I've been hired on with a bridal makeup team as well as continuing to take part in fashion shows and shoots, while working towards my diploma. I believe that Blanche truly has all the resources to set each individual up for success if you're willing to put the time and effort into it and really work to get as much as you can out of this amazing experience. Best decision ever!

I took fashion design program at BMC in 2011. There were several fashion schools I was considering when I booked for an appointment with my then future academic adviser, Pamela. She gave me a tour of the school and kindly went through the courses I will be learning at the school. They had everything I wanted to learn from history, sewing, and pattern making to fashion illustration. I loved the school. I was asked to get a simplest skirt pattern, make a skirt and bring it to her in a few days. I ended up making two skirts and a dress. Of course they were unwearable lol. The stitches were all messy and zippers were out of the place. But they still looked like a dress and skirts!! I was really happy to make my first garment! At school, I learned everything from beginning. In my first week of school, I couldn't even do straight stitches properly, but a couple of months later I was using the industrial serger to serge my flower patterned skirt that was actually wearable! All the instructors were industry professionals who still work as a designer, illustrator, patternmaker and so on. They were helpful and patient. Even though I couldn't do something that they demonstrated several times, they would help me till I get it right. In a classroom at Blanche Macdonald, it's not like university lectures where the professors don't even know your name because there are hundreds of students. When you compare those universities a big city, BMC was more like a small town where everyone knows and cares about each other. The instructors care about individual students, help them improve their weaknesses, and encourage their strengths. This summer, I'm coming back to BMC for the nail parlour program. I can't be more excited!! I don't know much about nail art YET but I know in 6 months I will be a professional nail artist!

That was last year. Now I am a graduate of Blanche Macdonald's Global Makeup Program. And for the first time in my life I feel I have accomplished something great. Jennifer Folk of Special Effects is an angel, a nurturing soul who may not know how much her kind words meant to me. Leah Ehman of TV and Film is pure sunshine, and the positivity and encouragement I got coming from such an artist was really treasured. Jon Hennessy of Fashion's compliments won't soon be forgotten, his knowledge and smiling nature was so appreciated. I looked forward to a big smile and wave from Tracey Payne every morning-it always made me happy inside even when I was struggling. The icing on the cake was Heather Sosa and Jen Rothenfelder in the Career Department. What beautiful people. Their relentless hard work and genuine interest in promoting me blew my mind. The year has been a roller coaster of hard work and growth. I can't believe how much I've learned. I feel excited about my future. I could not have done it without the support of all my instructors and the people at Blanche that have truly made me feel I belong, that I am part of the family. Blanche was one of the smartest decisions I've ever made. This is just the beginning.

I graduated from the Blanche Macdonald Centre from the Esthetics's program in July 2005.The program was wonderful for my self esteem, as well as a positive choice toward the career I had been dreaming about. While and after graduation, there was always an open door with all teachers and Director of Esthetics's Debbie Nickel. I often went to Debbie Nickel's office for advice. She always had kind words and great advice. My first job experience came through Debbie herself, to go up to Sonora Resort Spa. They needed an extra Eshetician for the weekend. I fell in love with the setting and work environment, which prompted me to apply for a full time position the following season. A variety of volunteer positions also really allowed me to gain further knowledge with cosmetic counters. I highly recommend signing up with as many volunteer positions available. It opens doors to meeting many new faces within the Esthetics's, and even make-up industry. I have learnt that being able to have experience in both Esthetics's and makeup gives the ability to broaden your resume. On a most recent volunteer experience at the Nars makeup counter at Holt Renfrew, I met their International makeup artist Marc Christopher. Within two days I learnt some new makeup techniques, while working beside Marc who had the ability to make every women in his seat feel beautiful. What I hold dearest to my Blanche experience is the skin and body portion. Learning theory with Shari was amazing and informative and I looked forward to going to class each day. Using three skin care lines, I gained in-depth knowledge about skin and its environments, proper skin analysis, and choosing the right skin care line for each individual client. After graduating from Blanche, I got a job as an Esthetician at the prestigious Sonora Resort Spa, off of Vancouver Island, where I trained and worked with the Phytomer face and body care line. Working in a resort spa with a high-end clientele was a valuable first career experience. A successful first season behind me, I returned to work a second season where I enjoyed seeing repeat clientele and being able to give more back to clients in a Resort setting. Shortly after Sonora I received certification as a Laser Hair Removal and Controlled Microdermabrasion Technician. This certificate provided another level of education and knowledge on skin and the medical side of Esthetics's. The makeup portion was with the wonderful Sharlene Gills, where I learnt great techniques for bridal makeup that to this day are very useful in my Esthetics's work. In the fall of 2009 I started working for Benefit Cosmetics at Holt Renfrew. This very unique and fun line provided a great first experience working in retail. Grand opening night we had over 600 clients take part in a Brow Bar experience at the Benefit counter! In the winter of 2010 I had the opportunity to go to Paris, where I landed a unique job as a freelance Esthetician. I started at the Dior Institute (housed in the world renowned Plaza Athenée on Avenue Montaigne!) doing massages, manicures and pedicures. A few months later, I also worked at the Saint James and Albany Hotel Spa. There I received in-depth training on the Swiss skin care line, After The Rain(ATR) and learned ATR’s unique approach to facials, where shiatsu points and reiki are incorporated in the facial massage. Shortly after, I added the Mandarin Oriental Hotel to my growing list of work venues. In-room massage is a popular service offered in five-star hotels in France and I therefore received specific protocol training for providing in-room services. Having this unique opportunity has allowed me to use different aspects within Esthetics's, while learning in more than one environment. Thank you Blanche for your continuous support.
