Edit: In response to island driving they canceled two lessons. My first lesson and the replacement lesson they gave to me. For the first lesson I had canceled they notified me around 12 the night before. The second one was canceled because the driving instructor was DETAINED, not sick or anything DETAINED. That is incredibly unacceptable that a instructor would be detained. Everytime I called in the beginning to find out when I'll begin my lessons the person who responded would be incredibly inpatient with me and repeatedly put me on hold. She also lied about my schedule not being created and delayed me for two months which caused me to have to go in person to their office to get this resolved. Signed up for class on 5/22 and after a month of delays I ask why I haven't gotten a single class yet in their office. They told me on the phone I haven't been scheduled but on their computers they scheduled me to start learning in September. I told them I needed to go back to college in August and they still did this to me. I rescheduled to start learning at the end of July and then they canceled my first two classes. The second cancelation was because my instructor was detained. How does an instructor get detained????? The people there were nothing but rude to me through the entire process and were incredibly unprofessional. Terrible experience and they managed to drag out the process of getting a license for months. I had to switch to a different driving school and I may not be able to take my road test before I have to start school because of island driving school delaying me again and again.

On Wednesday, August 5th I was scheduled for a 30 minute road test prep and car for road test. My road test was scheduled at 11am. My instructor (Robert D.) pulled up at 10:55am and I went across the street to introduce myself to him and he proceeded to fan me away from his car. I ignored the rude gesture but later he proceeded to say rude comments that made me feel intimidated. For example “When you mess up my transmission are you gonna buy me a new car”? He would yell excessively for the simplest things. He even went as far as grabbing and squeezing my wrist. This was very uncalled for! I was crying and so upset taking the actual road test and failed. I complained to the school to no avail. I was called one initial time, after that never again until my mom reached out to them about a potential lawsuit. They then claimed they resolved the issue but I was not in any way compensated and did not receive info about if/how this employee was reprimanded. This school is a DISASTER!!!! On top of this this school over all is not so good in terms of scheduling they will give you one driving lesson a month if you’re lucky and you will forget what you learned by your next lesson! I would not recommend this school to anyone I know.

The office was real accommodating in scheduling lessons around my availability and the instructors were very helpful during my lessons though I must say that Sal was my favorite of the bunch and great to work with on the day of my test (which I passed!). I had an 1 hour lesson before my roadtest with an instructor named Robert D. He was absolutely terrible. He was extremely rude and he made me feel like I was wasting his time. The second I got into the car I was grilled for every little thing I did. On multiple occasions he made me pull over and yelled at me. Many times he told me I was gonna fail. When he was driving to the test site he got road rage at an intersection and cursed out another driver. At the test site he cut the line and he murmured underneath his breath this should be quick. At this point I was so nervous and defeated I was unable to take my test. When he was driving me back to my house he got road rage multiple times and honked and went around other drivers. He was extremely unprofessional and his conduct lead me to believe that he was either uninterested in helping me/doing his job or he was on some kind of power trip. When I called the school to complain and ask for a refund they said we will make note of it and they never reached out to me again. This is was only 1 of many other negative experiences I had with this school. Another major issue was their scheduling system. I purchased a 7 lesson bundle and 5 hour class in June I did not have my final lesson until February. I practically had 1 lesson a month which was detrimental to my ability to improve driving. This was due to how backed up they were with other customers and the fact that a majority of their lessons is in the morning which is not optimal considering that I am a high school senior and that I do not leave school until 1pm.

I purchased a bundle package 5 classes + 5hr class. The 5 hour class is just as miserable as you would think it would be but it's not their fault, who the hell wants to sit in a driving class for five hours? Would have given 5 stars if I didn't waste 2 hours driving with Laura. Anthony was great! He was very helpful and had plenty of tips to help pass the road test.

Coming to this driving school has to be the best decision I've ever made! Ilene, the office assistant, was extremely helpful and thorough in explaining everything that needed to be done before the classes actually started. Would recommend for a friend!

-1 this is the Rate for that driving school. It's was almost 3 years after I passed my driver license exam, but I still remember my own worse experience with that Island Driving School. People answering by phone are very rude, they are not interesting to solve problems, you are paying for. They did canceled my road test appointment without even telling me about that, after I asked why, they laugh at my face. If you are paying for road test do not expect they will pick you up at home, you have to go and wait for car exam somewhere. You will not be alone, it's can me more then one person for that time exam, be ready to sit in the junk food back seat, that what happens to me. This is an example of their email: "Meeting spot: The McDonalds on hylan blvd and Midland Avenue. The car you have reserved will be waiting for you there. Also DO NOT forget your 5 hour certificate completion as well as your valid permit." It's about 7 miles from my home at Staten Island, "take a bus and go there", was an answer. They will not even teach you how to drive and the cars itself like an old metal junk, be careful to drive such junk car. I had my driver license since 1985, and in 2015 just came from other country and needed to pass driver license exam. And by the way, if you are not a great English speaker, they will treat you like you are stupid. Have fun with that school.

I just took my five hour class and I thought it was going to be the most hardest thing ever. However, Bob V made my experience so worth it and easy for me I feel super prepared about everything. I took the notes he told me to take and I will be reviewing them over and over again. Bob V was very helpful, smart, nice and very knowledgeable of what he is teaching! Thank you again Bob V the best person to teach a driving class! I highly recommend this driving school and Bob V as well!!

I called Island Driving School, took the 5 hour class, bought a 7 class lesson package, and received my license in the mail, all in one month. At first I was very apprehensive that my road test would be so soon after taking the 5 hour class. I had never driven before! What were they thinking?! But, here I am writing to tell you how wonderfully it all worked out. My instructor, Mike, was amazing. I'm a pretty nervous person, especially when I'm doing something for the first time, but I never once felt at all nervous during my lessons with Mike. He was always super calm and explained everything in great detail and answered all of my questions. When I needed to memorize things, he patiently told me what to write down. I would recommend Island Driving School without hesitation to anyone interested in learning to drive.

Very bad customer service. I’m trying to get a refund but the receptionist puts my call on hold for 30min and hangs up on me and never return my call, she would never answer my calls. I will never recommend this driving school ever to anyone. It’s my mistake for recommending my husband here, they made us sign a contract of 10% deduction if the customer claims for refund but the receptionist never told us it would take 3 months to refund the amount. She never told us that the driving classes would take a month and a half of waiting time. Very bad and poor communication and customer service. I wish the owner could train those ladies sitting in the front to be responsible for what work they do in office.

If I could give this place a ZERO I would!!!! They women mentioned it would be 6 to 8 week to schedule a road test!! It is now 20 weeks and my daughter still doesn't have a date for a road test. My wife has called several times the woman says she is next in line. They have left me no choice. I had to log complaint with the department of consumer affairs and the BBB. Stay away from this school...

Horrible experience, they took my money upfront for driving classes etc..and won't schedule any driving classes or road test stating they have no openings or cars or available road test .they keep saying when I call that I have to wait! Been past a year and they won't even give refund, ridiculous..they never followed up with me, I just gave up calling..keep away...

Great instructors, Bob, Laura and Lenny were great and helped with my driving anxiety while giving helpful tips! The office staff however, were very disorganized and mixed several things up. After successfully completing the 5 hour class sign up and attending the course, they put a stop on my account for the actual driving lessons because they thought that I did not submit my Driving School Contract (I had sent it back, the same day they sent it to me) back to them. I had to speak with them on the phone on 3 seperate ocassions to get this resolved. The first 2 times, it was the same lady who pointed out that maybe I was not using the website right or using the wrong email (in knew this was not my fault, because agian, I was able to successfully sign up for the 5 hour no probelm). On the 3rd call with them, this time it was a different lady, who was much more helpful, she went in my account to see what was wrong and fixed it, by this time a month had already passed before I was able to select lessons. The next mix up happened right before the road test. The lady in the office scheduled the road test before my final lesson (that I had already paid for) and they asked me to either cancel the road test date or lesson date and would not give me a full refund (they kept 10%) for their own mistake. Completely unaccommodating and disorganized office staff. Edit after Island driving response: 1. The lesson I was able to sign up for in March (3/3), IS the 5-hour course I am talking about. After that I could not sign up for Driving Lessons until 4/2 because that is how long it took to resolve the issue. This means that if I sgned my contract on 3/4, I should have been able to sign up for lessons starting on 3/4 but I was not able to until 4/2 when the stop was finally taken off 2. I have no problem with their being a contract in the first place, my issue is that I was being told that I could not sign up for lessons because I was using the wrong email/ login info when all the lady on the phone had to do was look into my account on the computer and take the stop off, it would have been resolved alot sooner 3. Why would you guys schedule the test before Ive had my last driving lesson? Doesnt make sense! 4. The refund policy is not my issue, it is the fact I needed to ask for a refund because I was not able to use up that last lesson I signed up for 5. Completely unprofessional to put every interaction up like this, there are dates on here that are not even relevant to my main issues with this school

He not only helps you pass the road test, but he teaches you real world driving application to keep you safe. I am extremely grateful for Robert’s lessons. He was dedicated and patient. They schedule my driving test without my consent to different time and the dmv examiner was not happy about it (actually they lied to me about the schedule change), they will give you a very bad car for the driving test which will perform very badly in the test, The staff has very low communication skills and very rude people, their only focus is how to get more money out of you. If you want to put money down the drain you can try this place I'm not even happy to give this place one star. This doesnt even deserve one star

But it was, quite surprisingly, much more informative than one would expect it to be, especially if you’re an S-Islander. The instructor (Rob) is an experienced driver of the island, and passionate when it comes to teaching proper driving etiquette.

I'm one of the happiest guy today in America thanks to my driving instructor, Rob, at Island Driving School. This man is the best driving instructor I have never seen. I have failed my road test twice, and I see it impossible to pass the road test due to my previous experience. Fortunately, I met, Rod, at Island Driving School and he made the impossible possible for me. He taught me every little thing about driving , and today I passed my road test with flying colors. This driving school taught me everything about the road without any misconceptions or faults, and were always on time. Before my road test, instructor Rob helped me practice and he made a big difference in the way I performed on the road allowing me to pass. If Rob wasn't there to teach me I would have bombed the test. If you go to this driving school, see if you can get Rob to teach you if possible.

The receptionist at the front desk is so nice. I had bob for my 5 hour class he’s funny and fun and educational. I passed my road test. Yes! I was terrified in driving but Robert is my savior. My parents doesn’t even believe i’ll pass my road test but I told them “i’ll pass because I have Rob as my instructor.” and I’m right! Rob really helped me overcome my fear in driving and was so patient with me. He taught me all the techniques and to do critical thinking. Every second count. I’m really lucky I have Rob as my instructor. Thanks Rob! You’re the best.

I had my road test with Rob. I was intimated by all the reviews saying he was tough. But I found him to be very detailed, and yes tough also.. He was the only instructor to teach me parallel parking. I passed the road test with only five points off for an imperfect parallel park. Everything else was perfect. Thank you Island and Rob.

I want to thank my amazing instructor, Michael. I started the lessons feeling insecure and afraid of the road. After some time and with the help of Michael I was able to pass my road test. Michael gave me great advice and tips and I would highly recommend this instructor. Michael from the Island Driving School, was very friendly, exceptionally patient, calm and cool with first time driving students, like myself. Michael is an expert at communicating and will know exactly where students need the most help after a couple minutes. Michael knows exactly what to say to motivate you! He is very helpful in getting your license. There are no words to express my gratitude. I can only recommend that everybody and their mother sign up for lessons at Island Driving School because you won't regret it! Also the 5 hour class was super simple and easy. It is held by Bob and he does a great job. They keep the class light and humorous and the 5 hours go by extremely quick. Today I passed my roadtest and I couldn’t be more happier. It has been quite a journey since I started my classes with island driving school. I was very nervous and had a lot of anxiety leading up to my first lesson. I took the 5 hour class with bob and he was very informative about everything. The class went by very fast because it was interactive and entertaining. I took my lessons with mike Venanzini. The best teacher I could have asked for. He comforted me and took the immediate edge off my shoulders. He made me feel safe and confident. I was impressed by how dedicated he was to teaching driving. He would talk about it being a passion and that I would be ok if I trusted the process. I learned rules and regulations. Stop signs. K turns. And par parking. It was a safe pressure free environment and I didn’t think it would be like that when I wanted to start driving. I passed my roadtest with ease and I owe all thanks for mike V for preparing me for all my concerns and teaching me the best parralel parking technique which took 3 min to learn. Bernadette the staff at the school were extremely helpful putting me priority and making me feel like they really cared. I would recommend this school to everyone, you will NOT regret it. Thanks.

I would HIGHLY recommend this school. I was a seasoned driver with over 30 years on the road. Due to circumstances, I had to start all over from scratch. I had Rob as my instructor. He recognized that I was an experienced driver, but I had to re learn the priorities for passing the test. I passed with flying colors due to his diligence and advice. Wow. Let me start off by saying, today was the first driving lesson where I actually felt like I not only learned a lot but have it embedded in my head as well. While I didn’t mind the other instructors, Robert FAR surpassed them for me. You can immediately tell he has superior knowledge and training. I am someone who takes a hot minute to get my bearings together before I’m able to intake the actual lesson being taught. Robert had me repetitively go over the basics before jumping head first into the unknown. I appreciate that very much. I was having a difficult time in previous lessons with my turning and he made me feel at ease, in control and very safe. I left this lesson eager to get in the car again and again to practice what I was taught. I’m so excited to see what my next lesson will be to improve my driving! I feel like if I continue with Robert not only will I be able to drive correctly but become a master at it. Thank you so much!

Same your money! I will never recommend this place for lessons. The staff is unhelpful, the cars are terrible and they change their rules every week. Even owner will never try clear up problems, and never return your call. Want full payment well before lessons and then lie when you are permitted to take road test. Then they want you to pay in cash. Try pushing different instructors for lessons, instead of staying with one instructor. Lucky I gave them 1 star. Stay away!!!

Today I passed my Road Test!!! Not in a million years would I have thought I’d have the ability to get behind a wheel. But moving to Staten Island, it was necessary. So just like how I’m writing this review, I had read other reviews and based on that I decided to go with Island Driving School. BEST DECISION I’VE EVER MADE. I signed up for 7 lessons which were incredible. And I gained more confidence after each lesson! Also with the 7 lesson package comes a Road test and the School let’s you take the test with the car you’ve learned on which is a WIN WIN. So I recommend that package. Thank You Lenny for making me feel comfortable when I literally started with no experience what so ever. I hope everyone finds this review helpful and decides to go with Island Driving School as their choice, because it was the best one I made. No need to look further. Forever Grateful.

My experience at the Island Driving School was great. At first I was skeptical and nervous about driving. But soon after I signed up and took the 5 hour driving course taught by Bob. I then felt eager and ready to start my driving lessons. My instructor Michael was calm,patient,and informative for every inch of the process. I only took up five lessons and mastered my road test with only receiving five points. Huge key to passing is to stay confident,and focus because before you know it,it will all be over and done with!

Excellent driving school, I totally recommend this place to everyone. Starting from the office staff which helped me arrange my lessons accordingly to my always changing work schedule. The five hour class doesn’t feel like 5 hours. It’s very dynamic, filled with very important tips. The instructor I got is a gem, his name is LENNY. I’m extremely thankful for how well he taught me to drive. This person has such a good energy that it makes you feel comfortable and confident while driving. An excellent instructor he prepares you well for a successful driving and your road test. My parking parallel and “K turn” are perfect because of his guidance. I had no experience driving and thanks to all his efforts and help—I passed my road test with flying colors, perfectly with no points were taken. Highly recommend this place and this instructor.

DO NOT GO HERE WARNING!!!! This school is not professional at all. The customer service is a -0. I had an incident with one of the childish woman THAT SITS IN THE BACK ON Guyan Ave office. I speaking with the front desk discussing my information and came to pick up my 5hour. She asked me to sign something I didn't understand why so I started asking questions and another representative came from the back yelling with attitude that I had to sign a document or else. I didn't understand why I had to sign it because she didn't allow the other representatives to finish explaining. Her attitude was disgusting an unprofessional. I then asked why is she speaking to me in that way. She then ignored my question and told the other representative not to give her my paperwork and walked off. To avoid conflict. I took the paper and signed . Little did I know my paperwork was not there. She stated i had to go to the other site on Forest. I stated okay so i asked for the paperwork that I signed that I didn'tunderstand since I am not picking up in this office. The lady came to the front again yelling and cursing at me stating u am not getting sh*t. Leave before I call the cops. I am so confused on what happened. So I gave her some words as well. She then act like I was in the wrong and told me to leave. I am so upset and disgusted on how they treat people. Especially when it comes to business. She need to get repremented or fired on how she treats people. She should be nice to people because waht goes around comes around DO NOT GO HERE. THE OWNER WILL TAKE EMPOYEE SIDE AND KICK YOU OUT. WITHOUT NO EXPLANATION.

I had a few instructors, they were all incredibly knowledgeable and professional, (Michael T. & Denise) but my favorite is Lenny Bianco, he made the classes fun and educational, Lenny prepared me for the road test but also got me ready for real driving, gave me so many facts about driving and what to do in the future. All the instructors were always on time, super friendly and very pleasant to be with. The secretary was very friendly and accommodating with my hours, she always called me the day before to remind me of my appointment and also sent me an email. I'm very grateful to Island Driving School for helping me get my license. Next I'll be scheduling a highway lesson.

Robert is the right instructor to spend your lessons with. Though he may seem a little (or very) intimidating he genuinely has the best interest for his students. Having a strict tone and the guts to properly address your mistakes you’ll be the safest driver on the island! Think of him like a football dad he does it because he care! I would especially book him for before you take your road test as he is great with practicing strategies go Along with keeping your nerves calm before the test. Ask the school for him!! I passed my road test with only 1 mistake a small miracle all thanks to him!

For years, I was terrified to take my road test. I have taken several driver's education courses in the past but I've never felt more well-prepared for my exam than at Island Driving School. My instructor, Tom, was not only a fantastic teacher but he was also super encouraging, which is helpful for students uncomfortable with driving. Update based on business reply: Very sorry for putting review wrong location. I never got a message last November from manager (told this to the lady this week as well) . Also got no message this week about the refund being processed and mailed. This is my first time hearing it and knowing it would be a check (thought you can just refund back to card I used) - and going unanswered again led me to my review. I sent to the email that was provided to me , asking them to email me if and when they will process it since I dont seem to be getting the messages. I did not get email back. I have a iphone with visual vm so I dont know if they are dialing wrong number or something. I will give it until next week to get the refund, before disputing or following up with anything. The lessons were good but they were so spread out to take due to Covid, that I wound on teaching it myself and my princess passed and got license , without using the other 2 lessons I paid for. Been trying to get a refund for months. Was told Nov a manager would call and never got a call, then was told it may take a few weeks cause refunds process a certain timeframe. Called back this month cause still didnt get refund. Sent email to what I was provided on phone requesting immediate refund as its been months ago I addressed this, and no reply. I guess I am going to have to dispute with my CC company. You should refund customers their money for unused services in a better manner. I should not be waiting 3-4 months. When someone thinks to refer or get more classes from you at another time, what they remember is the treatment when they previously worked with you.

This one is for the one and only Mike V. He was the instructor assigned to me the day of my driving test and I've got to say, wow. He's calm, collective, and knows exactly what he's talking about. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have gotten a perfect score on my driving test. Yes, a perfect score. I got 0 points during the examination and Mike V is the one to thank for that. He does not play around and if you are not doing a good job or making minor mistakes, he will let you know and make sure you fix it right there and then. He was very clear with his directions and gave me the best tips on parallel parking and being more aware on the road. Definitely recommend him. Extremely frustrating. I paid for 3 lessons and the car for the driving exam in late August, they didn't schedule anything until October, and even then they hadnt scheduled my drivers exam. When they finally did it was late january and at the father capadano location. I had to call like five times to make sure anything even got scheduled. I got A different instructor every lesson and maybe only one was helpful. The instructor i had the day of the test was atrocious, would grab the wheel out of my hand when I was parking and driving, was extremely impatient, and constantly told me information that contradicted what I had to do for the actual road test. I asked him three times if I had to look over my shoulder for a lane change, he said no, lo and behold, I did! If youre paying for 7 or 8 lessons and have a consistent instructor, go for it. If you arent dont bother with this place.

On February I applied for 3 Classes for obtaining my Driving liscense.Since then I haven't got any of the classes or any notification from them and it kept me waiting for at least a month.Then I asked for my cancellation of my class and asked for my REFUND.its now August and I haven't got my REFUND since then. Horrible school. Save yourself the money and dont go here. My husband went here because some recommended them and we only had problems with them. He bought and paid for 5 driving lessons and all they did was kept canceling on his lessons and then they said he was scheduled for a specific date for the driving exam he told them he cant go then because he only have done 2 out of the 5 driving lessons. They rescheduled the driving exam and scheduled all his other 3 lessons before the new exam date, but they kept canceling again on his lessons. The day of the exam came and he only did 4 out of 5 driving lessons that he paid for. When he asked for that one other lessons the lady told him “Well you have it if you fail” very professional. I did not pay for 5 lessons and not take them. When he asked for the money back they said they dont do refunds. Well i wouldnt want my money back if i would have gotten what I PAID for!!!!!

Had a very good experience with Island Driving School. 5-hours defensive driving course is led by a very professional instructor Robert, who provides useful information on how to successfully pass the road test, detailing all the aspects and examiners' expectations. Customer Service Representatives follow you through the process, reminding time and place for driving lessons and the test. Driving instructors Mike and Jose are extremely helpful, making sure you really know in details how to pull off, make a broken U-turn and parallel parking. I recommend the school to anyone who plans to get a driving license.

My last Lesson was with Robert on a Sunday. I let him know my road test was scheduled for that Tuesday and that I needed to pass. He let me know he was going to treat each move like we were at the road test. He was strict yet he explained EXACTLY why he corrected me. Before my lesson with him I was not sure I could pass the test. After leaving his car I felt more confident. Tuesday is here and I PASSED MY TEST! I used all the information he gave me and was told I did outstanding. Even the Parallel parking. If you have to go to ONE instructor before your Road Test...Go with Robert. And I have had several lessons with other instructors.

It’s been very rocky road and stressful process before I stated working with Rob. School needs some serious work on providing students with stable schedule. All credit goes to Rob. Great instructor. I passed my road test with no problem at all just after 6-7 lessons with him. If you can't get him, I most likely would tell you to consider other options or prepare yourself for quite some level of frustration. School schedule is not suitable for people with career and steady work schedule. I would've gladly taken Saturday/Sunday anytime (and that was my plan originally so I don't have to constantly leave work earlier), however it's impossible. It just doesn't exist. "Monday hunting" offers 1-2 days in the middle of a work day and no guarantee you can get the same instructor. Student, who is investing money, is unable to set up a steady, productive schedule of lessons. That is possible only with Rob. If someone doesn't care how long it will take to get license and how much money will end up paying with such set up - enjoy "Monday hunting"

This driving school is great. The 5 hour class I took was super informative and actually taught me many things about the road that my previous driving school didn't even touch on(they just played a movie for 5 hours). Rob is a great instructor, he's harsh but he pays attention and actually teaches tiny but very important nuances on how to drive. In my first lesson alone he pointed out many flaws in how i drive and park, mistakes that instructors before had previously glossed over. Would recommend.

Let me just say from the minute I walked in to purchase my lessons I felt so comfortable . The 5 hour class was outstanding . The instructor bob knows what he's doing . I learned so much . My lessons were so much fun . My instructor was beyond patient which was what I really needed because I was really nervous about driving and had so much anxiety . I passed my test on my first try and I'm beyond excited. The people in the office were always so nice and cheerful and they really cared about me passing . The day before my test they called to wish me to good luck and to ease my mind a little because My nerves were out on control lol I'm so happy i passed my test . Scheduling is ridiculous. Seriously you are practically the only driving School the least you could do is invest in a better scheduling system. Anthony helped me pass my test on my first try! I decided to take lessons to get my license after years of feeling like my anxiety wouldn’t allow me to do it. I had tried driving with instructors from other schools who didn’t understand the type of teaching and support I needed. My time with Island Driving School was not what one would call a "5 star experience." To begin, scheduling was a complete nightmare. I was unable to schedule driving lessons in a timely fashion, as I had to wait 5 weeks from the time of scheduling my lessons to the date of my first lesson. I worked with several instructors from the school, two of whom were abominable and two of whom were pleasant. Dan and Laura were solid driving instructors who helped build my confidence and driving skills prior to my road test. However, two other instructors could not have been worse driving instructors. One was extremely nit picky and criticized every aspect of my driving, to the point that he almost pushed me to giving up on obtaining my driver's license. The other was also overly critical and unpleasant to drive with. Additionally, as an older driving student, and one with my own career, they did not treat me with the adequate level of respect I deserved. Finally, I was told that I could not schedule my road test with the school's car as they told me road tests were limited and I would have to wait months to use the school's car. Therefore, I had to schedule the road test on my own and with my own vehicle, which in any event I preferred after my terrible experience with this company. Fortunately (and with a great deal of my own practice), I was able to pass my road test despite Island Driving School, not because of it.

I passed my road test yesterday with the great help of Island Driving School. I got the 5 lesson bundle package. Bob was great during the 5-hour class and made it so much more interesting and enjoyable than I expected, and I learned so much. I had a tight deadline for getting my license and the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating in answering any questions I had and securing my preferred date and location for the road test. My instructors were Tom B, Lenny, and Laura, and I would recommend all of them. I’m glad I booked different instructors because I learned different useful things from each one that I will always remember. I’m very happy I chose Island Driving School and I would definitely recommend them to everyone!

If you're a new driver and you're gonna take lessons i suggest you choose Lenny as your instructor. He's such an amazing person. He's really funny and nice, He teaches you step by step and doesn't rush you. I passed my road test yesterday on my first try. My experience with island driving school was exceptional . The 5 hr class was Sooo informative . The staff was so friendly and reassuring . They gave me the confidence . I was so scared to go out my first day ahhh The office would call me before each lesson to confirm . I came in the day before my road test to pay off my balance . They wished me luck and reminded me of what I needed for my road test . I passed my road test with only 5 points ! I forget a signal ugh but whatever I passed !!!! Bernadette, the office manager made the whole process so easy for me when it came down to picking a package, paying it off, scheduling concerns and all she made sure I understood everything I needed to select the right lesson plan for me and to get the best results from the Driving school. My instructor Mike V. Is The Best Road Test Instructor in STATEN ISLAND. I took my 5 hour class in May and had a road test scheduled for June and I was fortunate enough to have Rob. Unfortunately I failed my road test the first time because I was ill prepared, but I promised I would make all of my lessons with Rob. I booked some lessons with Rob and went from I’ll prepared to fairly decent, which is a compliment from him. Today I passed my road test all with the great, stern help from Rob! And it was the first time I saw him smile ????. Rob will definitely steer you in the right direction (that was a pun and the truth).

Horrible school they will steal your money give you nine lessons and then send you in a different car on your road test . Anthony v not only arrived 10 min late he alo had another student in the car and after 30 minutes on being in this new car we headed to the school to pick up another student all under my hour lesson before my road test . I have to admit I was quite nervous starting out to drive. It wasn’t until I took lessons with this school and had Rob as my instructor, that I felt more confident and was prepared for my road test exam. Although he is very strict and will call you out if you do make a mistake, he will make you learn from your mistakes and make sure you will pass your exam. I am proud to say, I was able to pass my road test today with flying colors and it was all thanks to Rob. I 100% recommend him as an instructor if you are looking forward to not only learn how to pass the exam, but to learn how to drive in the real world.

The office is garbage. The owner does not offer refund I have to call more than 5 time and report a claim in the bank otherwise they want to force me to take the driving classes. I do not recommend please go somewhere else.

I wish i could give them -5 stars. I just filled up a complaint with BBB due to the issues i have been experiencing with Island driving school. I took my five hour class 3 weeks ago and i still didn't receive the certificate. I paid $345.00 for the winter special and they don't have any classes available on their online schedule. When you call on the phone, they refuse to schedule any classes, they tell you to schedule them online. Now that i want a refund they charge a 10% fee. They tell lies about the five hour certificate being mailed by DMV everywhere else you go they give you the 5 hour certificate within two days. Don't waste your time and money with them go to another driving school.

They were so helpful with arranging the road test so quickly and noticed an error on the 5 hour certificate obtained from another school and quickly notified me to get a replacement to avoid issues with DMV. ALL HAIL KING ANTHONY! In just thirty minutes before my road test he taught me how to perfect the terrifying parallel park. Super nice guy and very helpful I recommend him 11/10. If you want a great and fun driving lesson, Anthony is the way to go. He is also very knowledgeable on where to go to the bathroom and which ones are top notch and rock bottom. Island Driving School on Guyon Ave is a great team of experts who truly are dedicated to helping you learn the rules of the road and pass your test. Ilene (office assistant) was a pleasure to deal with and made scheduling a breeze. I also received electronic text/email’s reminding me of each appointment. Then there was Michael and Sal the training instructors. They came to my house to pick me up and called when they were almost there. Both were terrific. Sal took me out prior to my test. He was extremely dedicated and I felt he sincerely cared that I passed. He was a big confidence builder for me. Thank you so much! Island Driving is a TEN!

Rob seemed tough at first while teaching but only bc he was showing me what the examiners look at when they’re testing you.. he made sure that i knew everything that i had to do with the turning and observation and how to make good judgment while driving and he made sure i knew the rules of the road. I am extremely disappointed. I had an hour of driving training with Robert. First I would like to mention he is not nice, very disrespectful, and with him I had a very unfriendly atmosphere. Second, the car I was in was a Toyota Corolla. The car was HORRENDOUS . It was not cleaned, nasty, he was eating when taking us to our road rest sight, didn’t have a seatbelt and most importantly he didn’t have a mask . It is insane how we are in a pandemic and there are no safety precautions taken AT ALL. I wanted to throw up the entire time. Robert didn’t give any good example of a good driving instructor- he didn’t stop, continued eating and drinking, and NO SEATBELT. Stay clear of this place- it is disgusting. I paid for 1 hour of driving and I only had 40 minutes of driving.!!!

The two stars I give are only due to the fact that Lenny is a fantastic instructor who deserves 10 stars.The school's owners and administrative staff are another matter. My son had 5 lesson package booked and was unable to book any lessons.The school was unable to book a road test and was rude to him and me on the phone.When my wife posted a negative review on Facebook, the owner replied that we were getting a refund and BLOCKED her. No refund ever appeared. I will file a dispute with my credit card company but wanted to want other people that the owner , obviously, does not care for his customers unless they leave glowing reviews. Be careful if you try to bring up any issues, they get defensive and lie to make themselves look good. By the way, we booked my son's road test ourselves and he passed. Now, we just need our refund:)) EDITED: Your response is full of lies You NEVER booked the road test for May lessons, in fact you said you cannot even guarantee it would be booked this summer.The refund was never mentioned by us but was stated by YOU in your FB reply. You twist everything to cover up the fact that you do not have the capacity to deliver what you promise. In all our dealing with you, nobody ever apologized but blamed us . Any time someone writes a negative review, you come up with a way to make them responsible. Good luck in your business.

Honestly without Robert I wouldn’t of passed my road test. Without all the surprise stops for parking and k-turns and left, right turns and hand over hand steering I would definitely not be prepared for the road test. Great driving school! I purchased the school’s five-lesson bundle at the beginning of August, and since I had to attend college by the end of the month, the school was very cooperative and determined to get my lessons and road test in on time before leaving for college. I booked all my lessons with Robert, who is very meticulous yet incredibly helpful. It’s obvious he wants his students to pass. He points out your mistakes and tells you exactly what to do next time so you can fix them. I ended up passing my test in time for school, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

I had Robert for the one hour lesson and he was just nasty. The car was disgusting. Instead of him teaching you the one hour lesson all he did was scream and eat the whole time. I did not pay for the packet to have this horrible experience. I wasn’t taught the k turn. I wasn’t taught the u turn. All he did was say stop here or turn here when it was already too late to do. I don’t know what I paid for but I hope the owner is well aware of how dirty the car is and how horrible my experience was.

Rob is hands down the best driving instructor. He is a bit strict, but when it comes to being on the road with other drivers and pedestrians you want someone who pays attention to the little details. Whether you’re a completely new driver or with experience, Rob will make sure you pass the road test on your first try. After only three lessons with Rob, I passed my road test today. Avoid this place at all costs. They will scam ur money and screw up appoint. I had an appointment to take a road test and they told me i needed to have a certificate which they never gave me. Then they told me i had to pay a fee to get a new one as well as another fee to reschedule the road test. What a joke. Never again.

First off I'm not one to leave reviews but this one has to be done. Scheduled a 5 hour course and waiting over an hour to connect to Zoom. Once connected I was locked out of the course and wasn't able to take the course. I spoke with someone today and advised them if I eas able to reschedule because of the incident but was advised I would have to pay again. I explained that not everyone can afford to pay another $55 and that's just outright horrible to charge someone because of a possible issue on there part. They make enough money I'm certain to rob people. There are other companies out there that actually charge cheaper for the course. TERRIBLE. I don't believe all the positive review either.

Rob is the best person ever. I only had three driving lessons with him and he taught me how to properly drive in order to pass my road test. We were able to cover everything in the short span of 3 weeks.My prior instructor taught me methods of driving that may have caused me to fail my road test. However, I was given Rob and he gave me the ability to pass the road test.I am more than happy. He is the best driving instructor ever. He always was patient with me and listened to my one thousand questions.He is the reason I am now a licensed driver ! if you want to actually learn how to drive not only for the road test but also for real life, I suggest Rob. They actually taught me (me, the most anxious of all people) how to drive!! Lenny is the most patient, understanding teacher ever. I’ve had nothing but bad experiences with drivers ed companies in the past which stopped me from ever really continuing to try to get my license. But when I decided to finally take the step and go to Island Driving School, it was the best decision I’ve made. Bob did the best 5 hour class. i would give this place zero stars if there was a choice...after scheduling and paying for the classes they messed up scheduling and wasn't available to take me from home to the driving test on the day of the test...i was expecting to practice on the morning of and go directly to the exam.... the woman who was the manager i spoke to was extremely rude over the phone and kept insisting it was my mistake when clearly the mistake was on their end... horrible experience.... i will make sure i tell everyone i meet not to take them...there are other places even if you pay a few extra dollars that will treat you with respect as a customer...
