He is THE instructor to book lessons with. Very informative, patient, funny and an overall good time. Hey Lenny! Thank you once again for getting me through the driving lessons and test. I am very pleased with my experience and happy to report that I passed the driving test on my first attempt after taking lessons with Lenny at Island Driving School. Lenny built up my confidence from my first lessons with him when I switched from another driving school and was nervous to drive on the busy road. His professionalism, patience and encouragement prepared me well for my driving test. Lenny is a fantastic instructor, he mixed clear instructions with plenty of patience and enthusiasm, he also had a real focus on teaching safe driving. Vía phone is the worst. I called to get more information on your packages and the first lady who I didn’t get her name was just putting me on hold for every questioned she answered, then hanged up on me. I called back and nobody picked up sent me straight to voicemail. Then another lady who answered (MICHELLE) had a nasty attitude, always in a rush to hang, seemed like she was upset or something, either get new receptionist or let them go. HORRIBLE! Ruined my day!!

First and foremost I PASSED Ooo YEA :) My teacher was Lenny and he rocks ... I always looked forward to my lesson and left in such a good mood afterwards. My teacher Lenny was so patient with me, always made me feel safe, comfortable and confident. I can honestly say my teacher Lenny and I became friends and although I'm over the moon I've passed I will miss him. Everything was taught at my own time and pace, completely suited to me to a T. My teacher would pick up on things that I would need to practice on, things I was good at and would often demonstrate tasks. Which helped me a lot to better understand. Lenny taught me the tricks of the trade of passing the road test. Lenny and I would talk about each other's lives so it wasn't just straight up learning to drive, I couldn't recommend Lenny enough! Thank you so much to Lenny and staff at Island driving school :)

Amazing, amazing, AMAZING school. I had about all the instructors for the lessons and every one of them was so professional and friendly and really helped me learn how to be a good driver. I passed my road test on the first try! I really have Margaret to thank for that. She taught me the best way to park, in under 15 seconds, and you always make a perfect park! She was also so hilarious and eased whatever nerves I had before I took my test. I will most definitely use this school again when I want to take a highway lesson. Plus Rob (the guy that does the 5 hour class) is hilarious and so helpful. Really appreciate this school so much!

So I’m not one to actually type a review but this experience really warranted one. As a 34 year old I am late in the game of being able to drive. But life has made it to be unavoidable so I decided to do my research to find a driving school that would make me feel comfortable about driving. After a few days of researching I decided to go with Island Driving. I’ve heard horror stories of driving schools and instructors so I definitely wasn’t playing when it came to choosing a school. To make a long story short, in 5 lessons I went from never having been behind the wheel of a car to passing my road test on the 1st try. And it was in no short part because of my great instructor Laura. She didn’t micromanage or get upset when I made a mistake. She gently corrected me and let me go on my way. The day of the road test I was nervous but all the chips fell in the right places and I passed. This driving school like many others isn’t perfect but I would recommend them to anyone without thinking twice.

They schedule my driving test without my consent to different time and the dmv examiner was not happy about it (actually they lied to me about the schedule change), they will give you a very bad car for the driving test which will perform very badly in the test, The staff has very low communication skills and very rude people, their only focus is how to get more money out of you. If you want to put money down the drain you can try this place I'm not even happy to give this place one star.

I signed up for my driving test at the forest location back in June and was told that I was going to get a call when you found out my test date but I haven’t heard anything since then and it’s been months. When I signed up for the test I was told that I would get a road test date 3 to 4 weeks out but it’s been way longer than that. I had called in August and was told that you were still booking tests from April. I called 3 times now with no outcome. The last time I called in September, I was told to email the scheduler and STILL never got a response. Maybe I’ll get my road test sometime in December ????

From the moment I took my 5 hour class I knew this school would be great, the instructor was super informative, laid back, and made the time fly by. Danielle, the owner was definitely the highlight of my experience here, she worked with me with a tight deadline I had to take my road test, got me the date I wanted, and scheduled my lessons within a short time frame. After failing the first time due to what seemed unfair, Danielle got me a new date, within 1 week! Island Driving School? More like Island Driving Idiots. I spoke with multiple people on the phone and they don't know what the hell they are doing. They can't seem to get it right. I have dealt with them twice now. The only reason I came back the second time around is because the supervisor Danielle said and i quote "Let me make this right" but it was the same thing All over again. Unprofessional and unorganized. Horrible customer service and very rude. They argue with PAYING customers, unbelievable right?!?!! Like how dear you! I suggest you go to anyone else!!! Save yourself the stress. In response to the message you left on my review everything I stated is correct. I have an issue with the unprofessionalism which you failed to address. I don't need a play by play of what happened I was there. Fix your issues first before trying to act as tho you have done me any favors. While I paid you money, it was no favor to me.

Loved this driving school. Took a couple lessons before my test and I aced it!!!! The instructors are extremely nice and helpful. Laura and Denise are amazing. Also Debbie always called me to remind me of every detail of every class and for my road test as well. Love the staff here. Highly recommend it

i had danielle as my instructor & she was amazing!! i had my road test yesterday & passed it first try. i don’t think i would’ve been able to do that without her. she was very reassuring & if you made a mistake she made sure to correct you but in a very polite & calm manner. she’s also very funny & a great person, i would 100% recommend her if you want a really good driving instructor.

This school is terrible, do not use them I'm telling you there cars are horrible. They set me up with a broken down car the day of my test. Terrible. I knew I shouldn't of spent additional money with them but Bernadette and Danielle assured me we will make things right. And nope that was a lie. I bet one of them will answer this review like they did my yelp review blaming me. I wouldn't tell my worse enemy to take lessons here. I had 4 different instructors, for my first set of 6 lessons. I told them I was a nervous driver did they care no of course not. It's the money they care about. Well now I'm flat broke after buying 3 additional fyi my first package 5 then 2 then 3= 10. Well thank you island driving for swindling me out of my money. You guys do an awesome job out of that. If there was 5 stars for scammers you would definitely get it. Off the chart crooks. I signed up for 4 lesson platinum package in August of 2019 at their Guyon ave office, package included use of car for road test. I'll start off by saying that my road test was today & I PASSED!!!!! When I initially signed up, I had a difficulty scheduling appointments online. I reached out to Danielle who is the supervisor. She was sympathetic to my issue & immediately scheduled all lessons, including reserving car for road test. I was lucky enough to have all my lessons with Tom B. I cannot say enough about what an amazing instructor he is. Tom is so kind & patient. He thoroughly explained anything I was having issues with. He truly put me at ease. I can honestly say that because of Tom B I have so much confidence behind the wheel. I would recommend using Island Driving School.

I want to share that I passed on my first try. I want to thank all the teachers who worked with me and we're so patient with me during my lessons. I had a final lesson before the test and the teacher was very informative and payed attention to all my mistakes and helped me to correct it. He also allowed to practice my parking the right way. I payed for 3 lessons and for me that was more than enough due to the fact that I was already practicing with my husband on my own time. But I took the lessons to brush up and make sure I drove the way it was expected on the test. Thank you island driving school and keep up the good work and great costumer service!!! These people don't know what they are doing in the office. They messed up all my Pre License certificate information and when I called to ask about that, the ladies threw unprofessional words on me maybe because I'm an immigrant. But I didn't reply on that because I'm a professional. To save your time, money and energy, just don't go for this school. Go somewhere else, do your course, search testing locations in the island then make it happen.

I paid for the spring package in 2019 which comprised of 5 lessons and and appointment for road test and a car for the road test. I found it reasonably priced. Schudling lessons was a bit tideous for me but Danielle was very helpful and accomadating. I didnt have one main instructor, but Tom D, Justin and then Micheal P on my road test day; instructor for all 5 lessons but each instructor focussed on the core components of the road test. Needless to say I passed with flying colors. Their driving instructors are experienced and professional. I highly recommend. Thank you island.????

The classes I had were in English, where the promised was in Spanish, as it was already marked to the test and needed the Drive continue. lack of commitment from you your free comment, I just want to remember that it was free because of another mistake of yours, because when I went to do the class of 5 hours, 2 times I could not do even having paid, so for I did not want my money back you did that. a lot of irresponsibility

They actually deserve NO STARS!!! They are unprofessional, rude, argumentative with customers, liars. They treat you as if you are no one but can take hundreds of dollars from you to do lessons in which you FAIL. A family of young ladies that all signed up to do lessons and road test with them and they can be so non chalet and rude. I was just rushed off the phone by JASON who will hang up on you in a heart beat and let you know he is so busy. However when you go to their office there is nothing to be BUSY over cuz there is no one there! DON'T USE THESE PEOPLE SAVE YOURSELF NOW!!! Initially there was a conflict that had been created by the receptionist, as the receptionist denied to keep the commitment as promised. However the management resolved the issue as promised. But I am still not satisfied with other staff, specially the instructors and the way they teaching the driving. Just passing the one hour, thats it. The instructor even doesn't know how to make a parallel parking, then how they will teach to the students. I am sorry I will not recommend to anyone to waist their money. It is better to pay $50 more to other driving schools instead of losing all money.

All I want is to schedule a 5 hour class. Can't do that online. So I call the number. I'm on hold for ten minutes. I hang up and call back. Right to answering machine even though they don't close for an hour. So I wait half an hour and call again. I'm put on hold for another ten minutes and then told I will get a call back. You can't be bothered to answer my phone call when ultimately I only want to give you money? You don't get my business, and I'm never sending anybody your way. Don't care how nice you are face to face, that's pretty poor customer service.

Let me just say from the minute I walked in to purchase my lessons I felt so comfortable . The 5 hour class was outstanding . The instructor bob knows what he's doing . I learned so much . My lessons were so much fun . My instructor was beyond patient which was what I really needed because I was really nervous about driving and had so much anxiety . I passed my test on my first try and I'm beyond excited. The people in the office were always so nice and cheerful and they really cared about me passing . The day before my test they called to wish me to good luck and to ease my mind a little because My nerves were out on control lol I'm so happy i passed my test . They use deceitful methods to get your money. They dont have any available days for lessons but pretend they do to take your money and refunds are deducted 10%. RUN DONT GET SCAMMED!! Now im told the next available lesson is August which is another lie as I'm looking online and August is completely booked out. Edit: the owners response is more lies as I'm clearly looking at the schedule right now. No information was given about the availability of lessons. I was told I have to go online to chose classes. Imagine my surprise and disappointment when I realized there wasn't any opening until months away. Wish I could share a screen shot

Unprofessional and a waste of money!!! Worst communication ever and unprofessional. They don’t know how to talk to people and everytime I call someone has an attitude and have an issue when you give them one back. Rather than them calling you and giving updates on what you pay for you have to constantly reach out to them and get out on hold. Now I have to wait 3 months for a refund and they still get 10% for doing absolutely nothing!!

The driving school is not good . They are bad at planning and co ordinating . They give you different drivers if you pay for several lessons. The drivers do not Co-ordinate with each other and are very rude . Just one guy is really good. Others can’t teach. Don’t waste your money

The drivers are incessantly rude and absolutely unprofessional . The people at the office did not even tell me when my road test was until two days before. Please do not go here.

This place is a nightmare, it was very difficult to sign up for classes with an instructor because the website where I’m supposed to sign up once I made a payment doesn’t work. I called to their office on forest avenue and they never answered, please don’t pay for services in this place, this is not a serious business, they’re not professional and you’ll end up like me just waiting forever for a service that I already pay for, I paid for the service on 9-22-21 and still waiting for I don’t know what at this point

It was my first time going to a driving school and the staff and instructors were super awesome. I had Margaret and Mike V, they were great instructors teaching me everything from parking perfect and the rules of the road. They were both very understanding since I was a very nervous driving student.

I had Robert as my instructor and he was amazing! I am moving to Jersey and only had a short amount of time to get my license and he was able to prepare me really well in just four lessons! Very rude. We have tried multiple times to schedule lessons, they always say they are booked up, yet when I go in person, I see people scheduling lessons. I don’t know if they don’t like the color of my eyes, I don’t know what their issue is. We went to try to schedule the five hour class for my son who is a United States Marine. You would think they would have a little bit more courtesy. Wrong. The moment they hear he is a Marine, they want nothing to do with him. How unAmerican can you get?? I called in order to schedule a spot for the five hour class, they told me to show up 15 minutes early and you will get a spot. He showed up 15 minutes early, oh sorry we’re all booked up. I cannot recommend this school at all.

I usually don't care to write reviews but I feel I have to. I took lessons over at the school AAAA and 8 months later all they did was bullshi* me on the phone and switch my scheduled appointments with a new instructor every time. There unorganized and just plain idiots. After spending over 600$ with them I would think I would pass a driving test but after taking the test 3 times I failed And if it weren't for me switching schools I would gave never known what I was doing wrong. From the 1st day I called island driving the lady on the phone Bernadette helped calm me down and give me the best instructor they have and at this point remember I already paid 600$ to AAAA school. So I was pretty fustrated to begin with. Bernadette assured me that I would pass with only a few lessons after my instructor mike V gave her an idea of where my skill level was from the first lesson. It's night and day from this school to my old school. My instructor mike v was extremely helpful patient and courteous. His style of teaching really made it easy for me to pick up on it. Simple things to remember and better ways of showing me how to pass the driving test. I can't say enough about the level of care I received from island driving school. Today was my roadtest and guess what people...I PASSED!!!! Omfg. I still can't believe it. Lol. I wish I would have just called island driving a year ago. It would have saved me a lot of money that I wasted for horrible lessons from creepy old men who only showed me the correct way to fail a test. But back to my point. Thank you Bernadette and mike v for all your help. The staff was also friendly , professional and just next level when it comes to driving schools I highly recommend this school. Please don't make the mistake of wasting your time, money and energy from AAAA. Thank island driving. This review is only regarding the 5 hour course Took me FOREVER to finally get a seat for the 5 hr course , my advice don’t listen to anyone who says line up at 4.00 you’ll never get a seat ( there’s only 15 first come first serve ) get there at 240 NO LATER you’ll thank me later !! However, the VERY best instructor Island Driving has, Robert, taught me not only how to properly turn but also how to do the HAND OVER HAND METHOD--the way turns need to be made on the road test! My English is bad I am sorry, June 2021 I joined this driving school for road test practice but they told me to wait for confirm my practice date but I waited around 3 month, they not confirmed any thing . Finally, I came directly to the office forest ave, they said don’t have any schedule upto November. Then I asked my refund but they told me to wait 3 month. Why I need to wait for 3 month my refund? They wasting my time around 3 month and next 3 month for refund so please guys don’t join this driving school. You guys waste your money & time. Please be aware of it.

Both my 5-hour instructor (Bob) and my driving instructor (Lenny) were great! They gave clear and specific advice, always listened, and overall were very patient and pleasant. I passed my test on my first try! I did hit a bit of a snag in booking the lessons due to clerical error on their part, which delayed my road test date by about 3 months. But the school made up for it as best they could while keeping a professional demeanor. A word of advice: Call at least every other day to see if your test date has been set yet. If you are unavailable on certain days of the week, either for lessons or the test, be absolutely sure to repeatedly remind them of this each and every time you call them. Regardless, I absolutely recommend Island Driving School. The lax bookkeeping is the only reason for the less-than-perfect rating, but once you get things rolling you will be extremely satisfied with the service. Ask for Lenny! If I could rate individual instructors he would get a 6/5 (You only want lessons with Lenny, even though he is booked solid for a few months. It's worth waiting!)

Not thrilled with the level of communication here. It's very difficult to get in touch with anyone via phone. One of the drivers flaked before my sibling's lesson, and when my sib tried to reach out to him, the instructor did not pick up the phone, reply to the texts, or even call back at the end of the day. Lessons are also expensive. While the packages are cheaper, the issue is you must give them a lump sum of money in advance for lessons that you may or may not receive. Especially in our case, we had to go back and forth via phone and work to get our money back (which didn't happen), but I realize that this is something that wouldn't have happened if we were to have just paid in person per lesson. To be fair, it's not all bad. They give a thorough report of the driving to you after the actual class with good detail about what you might need to work on for the road test. I can't speak for the actual education as I haven't been a student directly, but unfortunately there was a lot of extra time wasted on the phone and money spent on less than what was promised.

My girl friend signed up for this driving school and paid in full for 5 lessons and the road test at the same time. We had to reschedule one of the lessons. Before we were able to schdule the 5th lesson the driving school scheduled my girlfriend for her road test with out her knowledge and would not reschedule it with out her paying a fee even though she never made the appointment or confirmed if that date was ok. in turn she failed her road test . Any attempt to reach out to the company to rectify the situation has been futile would not recommend this driving school to anyone. The customer service at this establishment is abysmal at best they say a manager is going to get back to you and you haven't heard from said manager in over a week.

I had a lesson bundle with this driving school and I'm really glad I signed up for it! The guy who taught the 5 hour lesson (Bob) was really nice, funny, and explained things in details. He also gave tips on what we should do in certain situations and spoke about the different road test sites. I had 5 lessons with them in total and 3/5 of my lessons were with Tom B. He gave me advices and also helped me calm down while I was driving so if you anyone wants to schedule a lesson, he's a good instructor. Overall, my experiences with this school was great and they were able to schedule a road test appointment for me relatively quickly!

First off I want to start with saying Ms Barbara from the North shore office is a legend. She really went out of her way to accommodate me and it's really appreciated. I did the online 5 hour class and it was a breeze. The instructor is very informative and he helps the time pass by quickly. Horrible, disrespectful and unprofessional DO NOT use them. My daughter scheduled a class with them they gave her the Guyon location. When she showed up they informed her they changed her location to Delafield but she was not notified. When she showed up at Delafield they told her she couldn't take the class. I spoke to Bernadette who told me there was nothing that could be done to call other schools and see if she could take the class there. Smh! Then I call the school number to make a complaint and a young lady who says she's the manager of the Guyon location and "Part Owner" of the school tells me she told my daughter not to go to Delafield and maybe she should check her voicemails... She says she could've made it from Guyon to Delafield in 15 minutes... Well maybe she needs to take her own 5 hour class because that's speeding and it's raining outside... I took the 5-hour class with Bob and all my driving lessons with Lenny. The mandatory 5-hour class was long, as expected from the name, but super informative. I had six lessons with Lenny and passed my road test on the first try. He is really nice and has a very calming presence. Lenny is very observant and will point out mistakes and tell you how to correct/prevent them in the future. He doesn't sugar coat things and isn't harsh either--he just tells it like it is, in a very constructive way. I am a very hesitant driver but he has helped me improve so much. He also tells you things to look out for that you may encounter in the future too. If you plan to take all of your lessons with Lenny, plan accordingly beforehand because many students are trying to do the same. You can also let the staff know you would like to be on a waiting list if any appointment opens up as well. I haven't had much trouble trying to call the office but at times when I've called, I would be on hold or they are trying to attend to multiple students at the same time. Not necessarily a huge problem but it might just be that I happened to call at a specific time. All in all, a great driving school and even I'm surprised that I passed on the first try. Thank you!

They hang up on you and dont answers your phone calls when they owe you money/credit. Would not refer anyone I know. The instructor didn’t even tell me my progress after 6 lesson. Daniel the owner didn’t even know how I was doing. This school is the worst on Staten Island maybe in the city. Ended up going to another school in queens and passing after 2 lesson because the instructor gave me feedback on how I was doing. Chose not to take my remaining 4 lessons didn’t want to waste anymore time. Already spent 475 on the 10 lesson package. For your response We spoke on the fone and all you said was that I signed paperwork but I didn’t signed anything I paid for my package over the fone and we set up lessons from there. The instructor does not give feedback on progress and the supervisor Daniel dont have notes on your progress either. Customers to you are just dollar signs. At the end of my lesson no on evaluated me told me what to improve on. There is no integrity with this business they get your money and that’s its. I called was placed on hold y’all would say y’all where busy and working on it and then y’all would hang up on me. The fone is always busy and they make excuses for everything they do.
