To start off, I'll be completely frank...the in-class lessons felt pointless, at first. Maybe it was just my experience and the teacher I had, but they were incredibly boring and I found it hard to focus because of this. It seemed like the last thing the teacher wanted to do was be there. Come to my in-car lessons, I was a bit nervous because of the negative experience with in-class lessons. What if the instructor I got was just as unenthusiastic? That would only stress me out more. I was lucky enough to have Charles as my instructor. He was encouraging, kind, and (most importantly) enthusiastic, and did everything to up my confidence (not overly so, of course). I am overly pleased to have had him. Every mistake I made was discussed and explained, but never frowned upon or judged. While I didn't have much confidence in passing my exam, he definitely did, and, as was made apparent today upon getting my N, it was not misplaced. In the end, I was always excited for lessons and I think that's important; I'll miss them! If other instructors there are anything like him, I can't recommend these lessons enough. They totally made up for the in-class lessons while also making me realize why both sets of lessons are important to begin with.

I 100% recommend Young Drivers to anyone who is learning to drive, the experience I had with this organization exceeded my expectations. In terms of in-class it was really nice to be in such a small group (1 of 7 students) which enabled more one on one time with the teacher (Ted who is a funny and welcoming person that always made learning easy and fun) to ask any questions I had. Not only were there a variety of interactive methods of teaching but I was provided with a booklet that contains everything I learned (which I still look through to this day). Once I began my lessons I was had the opportunity to meet Aron who was my instructor for every session. not only was he flexible in terms of my availability but he was very calm and professional. His ability to explain things in a mellow manner allowed me to remain relaxed and feel more in control while operating the vehicle. Before this course, I was mortified of jumping behind the wheel. Because I was taught the correct skill set and eased into the physical aspect I now can say for sure I am a safe and confident driver. The skills I learned not only prepared me for my test but as well equipped me with the knowledge of a safe driver for my future. I can not begin to express my gratitude toward Young Drivers and the people who make everything run so smoothly.

Karl is a very nice instructor and he knows how to make you feel relaxed and confident for the test. However, I can't tell the same about Mark Mitchell, he is the WORSE instructor ever, showed up late for my test and was very rude to me. I asked him questions that he didn't want to answer, and treated me like if I was stupid. Very unprofessional... I still recommend the school because of Karl and the nice and friendly receptionists.

Just passed my G2 road test today, all thanks to YD but mostly importantly my driving instructor Anne. Anne was a very nice lady to drive with and she gave me a better understanding of the road/driving than the one I previously had. She was always on time for our lessons and showed me the correct ways of parking, turning, road recovery etc. By the time I finished the course with her I felt more relaxed and confident in my driving skills. I would highly recommend her as a driving instructor. Thanks -Ryan

The in-class lessons were structured to be interactive and informative - we reviewed several videos, quizzes, and grouped up into teams so it was also a sociable experience...the main goal is to become a safe driver, but I appreciate that the course somewhat built a small community of young students who could all support each other. The in-car lessons were very personal and my instructor was very patient and friendly with me. I could see my improvement every time we did a lesson. I passed the Young Drivers of Canada course in May and successfully passed my driving test for a class-5 GDL in June. So, I'd say this system works.

Amazing program! I took the full program package with my Learner's liscence. The in-class sessions were super informative and gave me a full understanding of driving, it's risks, using your car efficiently and safely, and to keep it in great condition. The in-car sessions are a great way to gain practice time on the roads, in parking lots, and doing emergency maneuvers to build confidence in new or experienced drivers. All the instructors are very friendly, encouraging, and make a comfortable and safe environment for the students. After completing the course I was able to get my N (Class 7 Liscence) on my first attempt! I highly recommend this driving school for everyone.

I had the most amazing experience with young drivers. I was at another driving school a year ago and the experience was not great at all. Unfortunately the instructor made me nervous and I already suffer from anxiety. With them I failed my first test. I tried again with a little more confidence but still didn’t pass. At this point I was nervous to take it again. My lessons where over with them and for a while I didn’t drive. Since I drove with them for my first time, driving was an absolute nightmare. I had no confidence and was shaky most of the time. At first signing up for the young drivers I was nervous. I didn’t have a great experience the first time with the other driving school so I wasn’t sure. But my lessons where just the best ever. I wasn’t nervous or had anxiety and thanx to them I realized driving is actually fun. With them I passed immediately my N and I couldn’t be more happy that I chose them. Thank you. You guys do such an amazing job to ensure that the students enjoy driving as well as learn. You make sure that it’s fun as well as safe. I felt secure and sure about myself and the result is that I have my confidence back. I would recommend young drivers to anyone who is starting to drive. Thank you again ????

My son just finished the March Break course - thoroughly enjoyed it! Teacher Al was great and Barb in the office is fabulous! They have both been at YD for over 25 years and are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. When I first called, Barb focused on all the skills offered in their course, vs the other place I called, where it seemed I had interrupted the guy's afternoon nap! His focus was not on skills but on price. For such an important and potentially dangerous life skill, cheaper was not my prime consideration. I want my son to be prepared to successfully navigate the sea of aggressive and speeding drivers of today's world.

Great instructors! Probably wouldn't of been able to pass on my first try If I tried doing the test without taking lessons first. Highly recommend to any teen who is a little hesitant about being able to pass.

This review is relating to the call center customer service and scheduling department. They had scheduled a Road Test and informed my daughter of the wrong date (thankfully a day ahead). Subsequently, when called to inform them that the road test is set for the next day, the person started by deflecting the error on someone else rather than correcting the problem and proceeded with a false promise to call back within the hour. A follow-up phone call from Devon at YD to apologize for the error. John the scheduling manager said I guess we made a "little boo boo." Very disappointing when you pay for supposedly a reputable company to look after all of this for you and they fail you at the end, leaving you scrambling last minute to make your own arrangements for a road test.

Despite the price I chose to go with Young Drivers of Canada and I am very glad that I made this decision. In-class sessions provide very useful information. In-car lessons will teach important skills to be a safe driver on the road and also helps the new driver gain confidence in their driving skills - which is very important for the road test. I passed my road test the first time despite me being unable to practice my driving beside Young Drivers. Special thanks to Tina DeVries for her patience and teachings. I am at a loss. Website just does NOT work. They NEVER answer the phone. I have been trying for almost a week, calling daily to book the third driving lesson, and it has just been impossible. Course paid for in full, and we cannot get a hold of anyone to actually book the lessons. I am truly disappointed in the customer service and communication. For something that cost me over 1100.00....I would expect them to answer the phone during business hours at least once a week. In class lesson were complete November 26th. We are almost March and cannot get the third lesson booked, this is insane.

My lessons with Aaron at Young Drivers helped tremendously to find confidence in my abilities behind the wheel, and overcome the anxieties of taking the road test. The Road Test package in particular is an amazing service that goes a long way towards making sure you succeed in your test. Being able to go out for a mini practice test just before the official road test (as a refresher of what to/not to do, and familiarize yourself with the vehicle you'll be taking the test in) was a huge confidence booster. I'll admit that there's a chance I could've done fine practicing my driving and taking the road test on my own, but with Young Drivers I ensured it, and passed my road test with ease! If you have any anxieties about driving (or more specifically, taking the road test), do yourself a favor and at least consider Young Drivers to help you through it!

I didn’t have my G1 when I began the class but I didn’t need to do any additional studying for the test after the second day. I took my time to write an opinion about YDC-Barrie-Alliston, because I really wanted to express adequately what my experience was with them. From the first day I always received the indications from Barb, she is great, kind and always ready to find the best solution for us, even in this weird times of COVID. In the theory classes, I learned a lot with Al, I had already taken my G1 exam and I had studied the Ontario Driver's Manual by myself, and passed the exam, but after the classes with Al I was able to understand much better what I had previously memorized for the exam. He was very patient with me, because my mother tongue is Spanish and if I didn't understand something he would clarify it for me. Last but not least, it was my classes in the car with Shawn: he is wonderful!! putting everything I learned into practice has been a challenge for me, I learned that driving a car is easy, but it is not so easy to avoid an accident, and it might seem that something as simple as looking everywhere at the right times, it's easy, but it takes a lot of practice, and we must practice the right thing in order to be a good driver. I also thank the whole team for all the extra work they are doing to maintain classes in these times of COVID, cleaning the cars before and after the students finish classes, filling out the questionnaires, organizing everything, and I hope not to disappoint that wonderful team and in the future be able to pass my G2 exam, at the first time. I am practicing a lot to achieve it.

Their instructors, particularly Rick Murray, are absolutely amazing at curbing anxiety and giving precise, clear instructions; I loved the personalized in-car experience. CogniFit for brain/reflex training was an added bonus, plus customer service is friendly and highly organized (thanks for everything, Cal!). These ppl are thieves! DO NOT DRIVE WITH THEM. They steal your money. I paid for the package that allows them to pick you up from home and drop you off. They claimed that Covid stopped them from picking and dropping you off so you have to meet them. They said to wait 21 days. Which I did and still they refuse to do pick up and drop offs and refuse to give refunds. I’ve spoken to Ontario workers board and legal services that says what they are doing is illegal. I was told to call the police from someone I knew in HR. I’m most definitely going to take legal action with this because from reviews I’ve seen they’ve gotten away with stealing from kids for far too long. They stole from the wrong family.

They are always overbooked to get in in car time. They do not book your road tests so you cannot get in your city but refuse to travel even 20 minutes. Will only pick up and drop off at the office downtown. Rarely answer the phone and NEVER reply to emails. Such a waste of money we have no idea if or when our child will ever do his toad test.

Get with the times, yd! This isn't 1969 any longer. The best hand position on the steering wheel is 9 AND 3, not 10 and 2 or 11 and 1. I've been seeing this with all your instructors. NO real instructor in Ontario should ever be teaching anything other than 10 and 2 (G1, G2, G). To address the reply to my review, I AM familiar with racing and they DON'T hold the steering wheel at 10 and 2! That's absolutely ridiculous. If that's what you see when you watch real racing, perhaps you need corrective eyewear, need to learn to read an analog clock, or find a new line of work. The 9 and 3 position gives the driver THE BEST range of motion and anyone arguing that doesn't understand the first thing about driving. Let me guess - I bet you teach your students that as per the Ontario HTA, drivers are always required to stop at stop signs and I bet you also teach them that they have to stop for at least three seconds, right?

Having just moved up to Barrie from Toronto after 15 years of taking the subway I was very nervous to start driving up North. I looked around at driving schools in Barrie and based on the positive reputation and reviews with Young Drivers I decided to give their Barrie location a call. The gentleman Al who answered all my questions and concerns was so reassuring and accomadating and with him having 28 years in experience with instructing driving I signed up right away because of him. I was so relieved after completing my incourse classroom training with John that I would be instucted by Al. He was so professional and knowledgable and invested in my learning that I can't imagine there being a better driving instructor in Ontario let alone Barrie. Al has given me the confidence to drive safely and confidently in all situations that may arise while driving. I hope you recognize how exceptional Al is when it comes to having a passionate trust worthy customer service focused employee. Special shout out to Barb/Gumby for the positive pep talks before I headed out on the road and the cheers when I made it back and exuding your positive energy it's contagious aswell! Having worked for Disney and Nordstrom myself I had high expectations on the service that was going to be provided secretly after investing $1000 in Young Drivers. Al surpassed my high expectations by far and it was the best investment I could have made when it comes down to life or death situations in a car. Thank-You!

My experience with the in car lessons is very very bad. I have had 3 cancellations from young drivers and two of them have been from BAD WEATHER. This is Canada, shouldn't I be learning winter driving in the Winter and driving in the fog when it is foggy. I started my in car lessons three months ago and am not even half way thru. And worst of all it takes two weeks to a month for another lesson to be booked then it is cancelled. Very discouraged right now.

I was fortunate enough to work with two instructors, Al and Anne, who were both incredibly helpful and supportive. In the short time I had Al, he was able to correct my steering mistakes and help me sharpen my awareness on the road. For the rest of my lessons I had Anne, and one of the many things she helped me with was getting over my fear of parallel parking. Aside from the in car experience, I can confidently say that the office staff (particularly Barb) were always pleasant, welcoming, and greatly efficient with the work they do. Covid protocols were always set in place and met with ease. I had an amazing experience overall, and I'd definitely recommend YD Barrie!

Befor i picked YD i called around and asked questions and found out after that the question where not answered correctly where they left out information .. my driving instructor Al was on his cell phone txting alot and we only parellel parked twice once with lessons and once befor my actual test .. i feel that the lessons were cut a few mins short every time and i sould of done less just regular driving just driving around and did more of the parellel parking and other things actually on the test and well asking questions once during a lesson was rudely told i would not be congratulated on fallowing the rule of the road which made me feel uncomfortable asking any other questions. i feel it was over price for what they provided... Steve was an excellent instructor. My daughter had him for three lessons and he was so helpful and shared so much knowledge on the driving rules, driving tips etc. My daughter is a shy girl but she said with Steve she felt so comfortable to ask him any question as she sensed he really loved sharing his knowledge. Proof of the good work young drivers had done was in her road test with ICBC. My daughter scored perfect and her ICBC tester did not find one error to comment on or tick off on the exam.
