Gold Star professional driving school is excellent. They were extremely flexible with arranging driving practice times with me and helped me gain a lot of confidence quickly, having no prior experience driving large vehicles. I was trained with a great deal of patience by Dusko Dan and all the highly experienced instructors.I passed my driving test for my Class 1 license. I also found the pricing to be quite good compared to other schools, and did not feel pressured to pay for any more lessons than was necessary to achieve my goals. I'm a very happy client of Gold Star. After searching for many weeks and reading countless reviews for other driving schools in the lower mainland, I decided to go with Gold Star based on their overall ratings and the phone call I had with them. Right from the first day meeting Dan (Dusko), who is the owner, I felt great about the process of signing up and starting with my lessons. He was very up front and honest about everything and so I began my lessons towards attaining my Class 1 license. My goal was to complete the course and pass my test in 6 weeks and about 20 hours of on road driving. I'm very happy to say that I did, on my first attempt. He was even willing to assist me in finding suitable employment but I was hired by a company of my choosing. The entire staff is very nice to deal with. It's a family run business and they treated me very well. The driving instructors were very patient and knowledgeable. They advanced at my own pace and addressed my questions very well. I came to Gold Star with no truck driving experience, and only very basic knowledge of how to drive a manual transmission on a normal vehicle. I had lessons(around 36 hours) with both Dan and Greg, and passed my class 1 road test(& inspection) on my first try. They provided a safe environment for me to make all the mistakes that I needed to make, and never lost their cool. I highly recommend their services.

Great service is hard to find but I found it here at Gold Star and they were also very affordable with modern trucks. If you somehow manage to fail your test it is on you. I would like to open by saying I chose gold star based on these reviews and their affordable pricing. I had a goal to get my class 1 license before summer had ended. I got all the support and training I needed from Greg and Dan. They made it easy to get lessons in around my busy school and work schedule. Rest assured, if you take driving training from Greg and Dan you will have an informative and supportive learning environment. I don't usually do many reviews online, but I can safely say I stand behind this one. I'm glad I took my class 1 training through Gold Star. tl;dr: Exceptional driving school. Highly recommended! I joined Gold Star Professional school with no previous driving experience. Seven classes in and I already feel comfortable driving around. Ana is an excellent instructor. Highly qualified, friendly and with patience that will last longer than this universe. She will instill in you confidence and will have you parallel parking like a pro! If you, like me, have been holding back on joining a driving school to avoid additional stress, don’t. I had a very positive experience with Gold Star. I took 10 hours of lessons in preparation for my Class 5 road test and passed on my first attempt. They were very patient, calm and reassuring which helped since I had never driven in Canada before. We sometimes practiced on busy roads around downtown to help me gain confidence in dealing with heavier traffic and new routes, instead of just focusing on road test routes. To me, that shows that they were sincere about training you to be a truly good driver instead of just getting you to pass!

I highly recommend this school. I took the lessons with Dan and Greg for my class 1 with manual transmission. I have never driven a semi before specially with manual transmission after 12 lessons I passed my road test. Customer service was absolutely the best with Anna. What I experienced with Gold Star professional were Service, Quality and then Money unlike the other schools they were the other way around. CLASS 1 I am very grateful that my friend recommended this School to me. I have 0(zero) experience in driving Semi. I've been wanting to drive one but to find a good school these days are hard to find. And also it doesn't come cheap. So my friend recommended this School because he had a very good experience with them. To make the story short, I went and sign up for lessons. Due to lack of funding, I only took 18 hrs driving lesson with them. It wasn't an ideal time frame for a newbie but Dan(the owner) and the rest of the team (Greg and Steve) managed to teach me all I needed within that span. They are very professional, patient, understanding and knowledgeable on their profession. Yes, they get upset at me (they are human too) because I messes up on my gear shifting (downshifting especially) and turns (set up) but at the end of the day they encouraged me to continue on learning and expect me to come back for my next session. Watching youtubes clips on theories on how to's will help you gain knowledge but not really helping you at all until you actually step inside a semi truck and drive. Yesterday (Feb 25, 2019), was my road test at ICBC and guest what. I PASSED THE TEST!!!.. So from zero hrs (no experience at all) to 18 hrs of training, I am now a proud Class 1 licence holder all because of their great teaching. I don't know about other Schools out there but I totally recommend this School if you are looking for one. Thank you GOLD STAR. I'm forever grateful. BernardM

I had lessons with both Dan + Anna within a relatively short period of time before my road test which I passed. About me: I am a mature student who doesnt own a car and relied wholly on 10-15 hrs of driving lessons within the last two years. Overall in life I had probably another 30 hours driving ever. I was at a stage in my career where I needed to drive and I decided to book 2-3 lessons a week for 4 weeks prior to my road test. I found gold star driving very supportive of me achieving these goals and really felt a big difference between my first few lessons against my last few polishing lessons. Dan is a relaxed instructor who most helped me with my fears of changing lanes in heavier traffic. Anna was very detail oriented and helped me perfect my back-ins and parallel parks. Overall they gave me the confidence and tips I needed to reach my goal! (And were really nice to get to know also). Highly recommend this team! Also very accommodating to my busy schedule.

Well I'm in the middle of taking my class 1 lessons with Dan. I could not have asked for a better Teacher than Dan. He is always making sure I stay positive while driving the truck with a 53 foot can on the back. He's super patient. Always buddy don't worry and makes me feel more comfortable. this school was excellent. Goldstar took care of everything for me from a driving lesson package and flexable hours that suited me, to booking me in with an airbrake course and booking my roadtest with icbc. Greg was very good and patient with me and taught me everything i needed to know from pre-trip to downshifting to right turns. i ended my lessons with Dusko who was very friendly and very knowledgable about driving the big rigs and the road. these guys are truly what you call professionals. i enjoyed going to each one of my lessons. i would recommend this school anybody who is interested in getting there class one.

Firstly, the owner Dan seems to be least interested with teaching shifting skills for class 1 and does judging work more than teaching. On my first three lessons with Dan, I was so frustrated with shifting gears because I hardly knew any techniques. That was a lot of money to waste. Then on forth lessons with Greg I felt so comfortable. He is an amazing instructor. Secondly, I am disappointed with the way they messed up the schedule all the time. They changed timing of almost all my lessons on last minute under different pretext. one excuse was that since I was insisting on having lessons with Greg they need to change my timings but still my last two lessons were not with Greg. I was given a lesson at 10 AM on the day when I have exam at 1.15. What to do after two hour lesson till 12- just waiting at ICBC especially when I worked graveyard shift the night before. Since the exam was pre booked, I hardly had options to refuse whenever they offered lesson after changing the schedule. I failed and took three more lessons but same story again and changing either timing or instructor the last minute but this time I refused. There were many other problems too. Overall, it was no way a professional approach especially when student spends a lot of money on these lessons.

Gregg helped me from start to finish in 3 weekends, at first I was a little iffy about double clutching, but he taught me his knowledge on how to shift properly. Very calm, cool, and collected guy, very pleased with their service. I would recommend these guys to anyone looking to upgrade the license to a higher class.

The staff took an exemplary approach tailored to my individual driving habits, and concentrated on specific improvement areas that helped me ascertain the knowledge and experience I needed to be successful in acquiring a class 1 driving license, the most sought of accomplishment in the industry. It is with great honour and appreciation that I write about my experience, to share my story, one that may motivate others to take on the challenge, so you too can be boastful in your passion for growth. It wasn’t a long ago that I held my class 5 drivers’ license, believing that anything else was out of reach or involved continuous hours of training, only to find myself dedicating time and funding that I did not have. The idea of graduating from the program did not seem very feasible, or angelic, and that’s the perception I gathered from many in the industry. This all held true until I had no other options, I procrastinated this moment until it consumed me; I’ve finally reached the summit of inevitability, and a point of no return. With great despair, I felt I wasn’t ready financially, and I took a leap of faith in the name of tenacity. I could not have been steered in a better direction; this is when I first met with Dusko Bilbija, the owner of Gold Star, and the driving instructor Bill. I felt so much convenience once Dusko proposed a free driving class that allowed to recognize if this is the exactly that I want to do onwards. I needed to take action, and I was approached by a friend with a job offer that required a class 1 driver’s license, it was crucial that I got my license within 30 days. Even though, I have had a truck driver experience, I still thought over improvement my driving skills. It was only 2 weeks, and for about a third of the going rate, with a driving test to follow, I was exuberant by my graduation, and now holding my class 1! My gratitude to Bill, who has passion and loyalty to the driver profession and who generously shares his experience. This was a moment for me which I hold sacrosanct, and an important milestone in my career! I switched driving schools because I wasn't satisfied with the previous company I was with. A friend told me about Gold Star and highly recommended them so I took a one hour lesson just to get a feel for the instructor and service. That one hour was more than enough to convince me I had come to the right place and I ended up getting the biggest package they offer. Dusko was so patient and you could tell the man has a lot of experience. He taught me everything and worked later than usual to accommodate my work schedule. Gold Star Professional driving school is a very good school. Owner Dan and instructor Greg were very professional, friendly, approachable and accommodating. The schedule was organized around my availability. Since I already had some driving experience, instructor Greg tailored the class 1 instruction program towards polishing the skills I already had and helped me to overcome the mistakes I was making to better prepare me for the class 1 road test. What I liked is Greg did not try to break my learned shifting style and make me relearn to drive the truck his way from the beginning. We focused on fine tuning, shifting on hills, emergency actions if you got stuck in neutral and trying to find gears, turns. So, I passed the class 1 road test with no problem. They don't try to sell you hours. You decide how many hours you need based on the progress you make. They will honestly tell you when you are ready and what are your chances to pass the road test. They know what ICBC examiners are looking for when it comes to evaluation of your driving and teach you the proper way to drive, they want you to succeed.

This is a professional, dedicated, and affordable school that will get you into the driver's seat very fast! I passed my Class 1 driving test the first time-while my husband, who attended another driving school, only got his license on his second try. My instructor was Dusko. He went out of his way to schedule my driving practice based on my availability and that took a lot of pressure off of learning to drive a commercial vehicle. This was a great place to learn how to drive Class 1 vehicles and I would recommended it to anyone with a desire to become a professional driver!

Dan is a very good teacher. A professional driver with tons of experience with driving. He is caring and empowers the student to drive on their own independent of instruction while still maintaining a safe learning environment. Dusko and Greg are both great instructors. Both of them are extremely patient and are a wealth of information. They managed to work around my busy schedule and taught me all that I needed to know. I started as a total newbie, with no experience driving a manual transmission of any kind, or even in a vehicle larger than a sedan. After training with Dusko and Greg I'm just as comfortable in a tractor and 48' trailer with a 13 speed manual as I am in my own car. I passed my road test on the first try.

I took my class 1 training with gold star driving school. This school is nothing short of spectacular. My quest to get my class 1 driving license has been a tough and costly journey. I first went to Valley Driving school, the first instructor in the Surrey location would always give me the same vague answer whenever I asked him a question "depends on the situation." That is all he would say. I asked to be transferred to their Coquitlam location I learned more from the second instructor. But I also noticed a pattern every student that wrote their driving test seemed to have failed based on my experience sitting in the office waiting for my lesson. I told myself if I were to fail, I will go to gold star driving school (saw website 94% pass rate). The day finally came I wrote my test, ironically I failed even though I did everything that was taught. (My test was suppose to be at 8 am - the day before at the end of my lesson found out my lesson has been changed to 11 am- very unprofessional.) The end of the driving test I went back to the valley office in Coquitlam. I told the front desk lady "I failed", she said "lets get you signed up for another road test" I responded with "I will hold off for now". I met with Dan (Owner of Gold Star Driving) a couple of days later. I told him my story, I knew I was missing something in my driving. I got setup with lessons from Greg. First day I meet Greg, he said " We will work on your shifting" I said "I already know how to shift, I need help with right turns." He said "turning is easy, shifting is main problem" That day I learned so much more about shifting, I knew this is the place to learn. I also took lessons with Dan (excellent teacher - he instills confidence and I learn so much from him as well) I took about 10 lessons in total, every lesson I learned more and improved. Greg said to me 3 days ago, "You are ready for your road test, speak with Dan and setup the road test" I did my last 2 lessons with Dan - he watched my driving. He said "You are ready" I wrote my test today and passed my road test. Dan also got me a job lined up immediately after passing my road test. Long story short, I would give Gold Star Driving 6 stars out of 5 if I could. Dan is a very trust worthy person. He only wants for his students to succeed. Save your money don't go to these highly marketed driving schools and pay huge amounts of dollars for sub-par training. I hope this review will help save you money and time.
