I passed my driving test first try! In winter, and traffic. This is all because of Robert. He showed me how to drive and teached me all the rules of the road and gave me visual insights on how I should approach the problem. It was really helpful and I really appreciate on how calm and respectful he is when driving with me. He doesn't make you feel nervous at all, before taking lesson. I was often scared to even drive or even touch the steering of the car but after the lesson. I felt better, and more confident. Thank you Robert!

Having not driven much at all before my lessons I was very nervous, but with his calm demeanor and thorough instructions I was able to get the hang of it much faster than anticipated. He's also a very funny and interesting person to talk to, and I really enjoyed our conversations with the added bonus that it put me at ease. One important thing to note about his teaching style, is he doesn't just teach you the rules and how to pass the test, but also practical real world examples and knowledge so you can be prepared to drive in all scenarios. I was 15 studying toward my class 5 license with Derek Browns and both instructors I had were excellent. Dr.Raad was able to answer every question I had without hesitation, and my in vehicle instructor Robert was extremely nice and fun to talk to. I passed my drivers test with not demerits, without some of his tips I’m sure that would’ve never happened. Overall my experience with Derek Browns was excellent and I would recommend to anyone who wants to expand their driving skills.

I had an overall good experience at Derek Brown's Academy of Driving, I believe that there were great parts of my education as well as parts where there could be improvement. I would've appreciated if there was an option to do the in class portion online, but I understand that this was taken away after the peak of the pandemic. Nonetheless, my instructor Hassan was great to have. He had a great sense of humour, provided snacks, and gave practical guidance to all students. The course went by quickly with him, and you could tell he had lots of experience. With the driving portion, the instructors I had were very kind people with good intentions, they were polite to me and took me to various areas of the city. I noticed that both instructors had a tendency to grab the wheel to assist me when doing maneuvers instead of allowing me to do them myself, while this was helpful at the start, but I would've appreciated a bit more independence. They also missed some points that driving examiners look for, such as placing the parking brake during hill parks, and checking and slowing for uncontrolled intersections. Both teachers brought up my confidence by telling me I was a good driver and assuring me that I was safe on the roads, which was excellent. However, I do believe their patience with beginners could be improved, as I often felt rushed to change lanes, and they would get frustrated with me relatively quickly. Derek Brown's taught me a steady base to learn from, and I am appreciative of all individuals I interacted with, but I also wanted to leave feedback to help this company grow and thrive.

I had Pete originally as an instructor, he yelled and screamed at me and seemed very emotionally unregulated creating a very unsettling environment to learn in. Thanks to google reviews I changed to Robert he was nice, calm, patient and understanding. He used all sorts of teaching methods to make driving techniques understandable like visuals, practical practice and written methods to remember certain things that would be on the road test. He was an amazing instructor and I learned fast. Highly recommended

I took a 2 hour brush up lessons on July 30th 2013 with an instructor named Anita. Focusing completely on parallel parking Anita was great. She gave me the pointers and references I exactly needed and I passed my road test the very next day with Southland Registrations Ltd. She was very friendly and polite and I felt at ease with her. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that they had a mix up on my payment for the brush up lessons. I had paid over the phone the day before with my visa, but when Anita showed up the next day it was noted on her sheet that I was unpaid and had to provide her with cash or a cheque. I advised her that wasn't the case and asked if that would be a problem with today's lesson. She said no and we continued on with our lesson. She told me to call the office in the morning to find out what happened with my payment. When I called the next day, once in the morning and once in the early afternoon I could not get through just got an answering machine. I didn't leave a message as I felt I should not have to go out of my way for a mix up on their end.

I passed first try and he really focuses on passing the test and being a good driver after. He is super professional but is comfortable to be around and makes the learning process Safe. My instructor in class was Hassan and I can honestly say he made the class enjoyable and made it easy to learn! He is so funny and just made that a great experience. My driver for the first 4 drive times was super nice and friendly but he didn’t really teach me the best and was hard to understand. But my final drive time was with a different instructor and he was very helpful! And taught me so well especially the parking. As well as he made the instructions very clear I would also like to include the amazing receptionists. They’re so sweet and helpful! :)

If you're taking your Class 1,3,or 5 and you didn't sign up with these guys you're doing it wrong already! My instructors were Hamza(classroom Q Endorsement) and Karen (Driving ) Both are very knowledgeable and thorough. If you leave this place not knowing your stuff, you fell asleep or you just weren't present. I highly recommend this driving academy.

I really want to appreciate my in-car instructor Robert for being nice and patient with an older learner like me. Ahmed did a good job at making the in-class lessons less boring with jokes and sharing personal experiences. However, I would advice the management of the school to work on getting good hands at the reception. The reception should show more empathy and listen to enquiries from customers while providing complete information even when the student did not ask.

Passed my class 1 MELT on my first try after taking the course here. Dan is a phenomenal instructor! He has so much experience and is really great at breaking down the skills so the students can be successful. Honestly if it wasn't for him I would have failed and been a complete wreck. He lets you figure things out at your own pace and doesn't overwhelm you with information. I hope he gets a raise as this school wouldn't be anything without his knowledge and experience. The office ladies are super nice and accommodating although if you work full time don't expect to complete your MELT without taking some significant time off. Don't be cocky, put the work in, and listen; you will succeed.

I went to Derek Brown to get my class 1 license and air brake certification. The air brakes class was awesome. My teacher Hamza taught everything I needed to know about the air braking system and how it works. He also answered any question I could ask! My first experience with Derek Brown’s Academy of Driving was in 2019 when I participated in the Air Brakes Course, which they continue to offer. This introduction to commercial driving gave me foundational skills from which I was able to successfully obtain my Class 2 Driver’s License. In January 2021 I registered with Derek Brown’s again for the purpose of obtaining my Class 1 Commercial Driver’s License. My training was completed in March 2021, following which I obtained my Class 1. The company’s management team and office staff proved to be knowledgeable and understanding advocates assisting driving student’s such as myself. I would especially like to extend my sincere thanks to Dan, the lead instructor, in addition to other highly-skilled, experienced and professional driving instructors including my primary instructor Karen and others I had direct input from, such as Marvin and Gary. At all times Derek Brown’s Team provided me with the tools and resources I needed to begin building my skill-set as a Class 1 Commercial Driver. Driving school is great. I did my class 1 Melt. In class and practical was thorough. Sue at front desk is great and helps in your questions and concerns. My trainer was great Spanish guy forgot his name may be windo ( for sure wrong spelling) Only issue which is not from driving school but with jobs is that all companies asking for experience. They hardly hire new drivers. Only offers you will get is US runs. It’s been over a month and I’m still looking for work. But school is great and follows covid measures.

great driving courses, i had Saad for the in class courses and he was great and very informative. For my on road sessions I had Qusay Majeed who was extremely great at explaining the road and making sure I fully understood the road, he went out of his way to make sure I understood things even if they weren't a part of the drivers test but were important for driving in general. I dont recommend this school for class 1 , I took their 14 hour course and and did not learn what I should have. I ended up going to another school to get my class one . I found my instructor to be very rude and not helpful. I had five instructors at the other school i attended and had no issues with any of them. At first I didnt think this was a bad school , I thought the problem was me, it wasnt , the problem was my instructor , to much yelling , to much talking about herself and not teaching the pupil. My other school marked on attitude and i got high marks every time I went to a training session , go look else where this is a very bad enviroment and low end school compared to the other school I attended. I would not even allow my first instructor to get into my class five vehicle because of her attitude , I would pull over and kick her out of my vehicle. Nothing personal against Karin but she was completely incompatible to train me. This school will take your money and rush you through their course as fast as possible just to get rid of you.

Finally getting around to posting my review - I enrolled in the Class 5 Driver's Course in Oct-Nov 2018. As a person in their late 20s who had never driven and had no family to teach me, my enrollment in their course was essential. The class room portion was surprisingly engaging considering the dry subject matter. The instructors did a good job of ensuring full class participation and offered a lot of helpful tips to prepare for the written test. For the driving portion I had Robert who I found to be a very good instructor. He helped me feel calm and confident in my driving. I was able to pass my driving exam on the first try under tough conditions (snowing and Black Friday traffic). Thank you Derek Brown's Academy!

I started off with a really difficult instructor whenever i finished a lesson i burst into tears and never wanted to drive again. My mom complained to the school so they switched my instructor to Robert and gave me 2 extra hours for free. I recently went here to upgrade my Licence to a Class1. I only needed a couple of lessons because I already had a Class 2 with Air Brakes and general knowledge about tractor-trailers. The instuctor was awesome and when I was ready they set me up for a road test. The examiner they used was very fair and I passed my test on the first try. I would recommend this driving school to anyone. The instructors are top notch! Any question I had was easily answered. They give you all the information and skills to become a professional driver. Dan Veno and Karen Watterson were my instructors both inside and outside of the class room. They never lost their cool and were very patient with me, where others would be swearing, and yelling. I couldn't deal with everything they have to deal with and be sober! Lol

He was very invested in my learning and I went from terrified when I started, to confident and responsible behind the wheel...in 5 lessons! Seeing as I had no driving experience before attending Derek Brown, I am not yet ready to take my road test. But I will be soon as I am practising everyday. And it's all thanks to Pete! I went through both the in class learning sessions and the 10 hour driving sessions with an instructor for my class 5 GDL. I must say I enjoyed nearly every second of my experience. The in class portion was inclusive and extremely effective at teaching the rules of the road. I even picked up a couple of friends during my time in the classroom. The teacher, Hassan, is amazing and does a great job improving the mood of the setting. Then, I had to complete my driving portion. I went from being a nervous wreck in parking lots to a confident and pretty decent (if i dare say so myself) driver in the span of ten hours, due largely impart to my excellent instructor known as Quasay. He would chat with me in the more monotonous parts of the driving such as long highway drives and had a great deal of excellent stories and wisdom to share with me. Really made it a relaxing experience. First day was a little bit stressful, but I can't really blame him as I probably gave multiple people heart attacks on that day : D. Really enforced a bunch of good habits too, along with other educational requirements that made me a safer driver. Derek Brown's Academy of Driving succeeded in transforming me from a terrible driver to a confident one and one that respected and knew the rules of the road. All while somehow making it enjoyable. Today I went out for a two-hour lesson with Robert because I had failed my first driving road test because of a few small things that I needed to work on. Great friendly teachers who are happy to work with you to to achieve a passing grade. If you can, get robert for your driving instructor. I loved the fact that the class wasn't too expensive or too extensive (long). The teachers in the classroom made the days go by a lot quicker than I would've thought, they also have a fun way of teaching their students. My driving instructor (Nick) was great, he took me to the Riverbend location and Forest Lawn location, to practice both routes, and let me choose which one I'd be more comfortable with. Then gave me extensive training on the route of my choice, and when I asked for extra time to practice my parking, he was all for it. I think overall, Derek Brown's is a pretty awesome driving school. Not to mention, it's become somewhat of a family tradition to go there lol.

I cancelled a course piror to the start date due to a family emergency. I was told that it would be no problem and I would be refunded my money by Heyam. I had to contact them multiple times about not receiving my refund. I finally received a response days later stating that management feels I'm not entitled to a refund. Nowhere on their website or in any of the correspondence with Heyam was I told that the deposit was nonrefundable. I find it incredibly disturbing that this company is okay with stealing from it's potential customers considering we're in the middle of a pandemic and times are hard. I would definitely take your business elsewhere.

I would like to thank my awesome and amazing driving instructor Robert for all his help. Today I did a brush up with him right before my roadtest and guess what I passed!!! Mind you I've never driven before and he made it very easy for me to learn how to drive and taught me techniques on how to do parallel parking which I did in just one attempt today on my roadtest. I liked the friendly feel to this driving school and liked my car instructor. After the last lesson he dropped me at the registry so I could take my test and I passed first time. The only thing I would change is to have longer breaks and more snacks in the machine because I got so hungry and it was a bit of a walk downstairs to get food at the restaurant. I like how they are friendly and make you feel comfortable behind the wheel. And the class isn't boring.

I wanted to mentioned a little more in detail about how I felt, I know I was looking for that in the reviews when I first thought about going to a driving school... so here it is :) So first off... never drove in my life, my husband and I were in an accident in 07 and since then I could care less about driving. I was nervous, scared, didn't want anything to do with it. You mentioned driving and my stomach was in knots!! So anyways this was the first year I decided okay lets do this and well I need to try and get over my nerves, face your fears...right! eek, I am conquering my biggest fear ever.I looked on Google seen all the great reviews for Derek Brown School, so I phoned them up and booked my class. I will say from start to end , every person in that office was super nice and kind. The reception area..Aaamazing!! the ladies there helped me out so much and I asked every question to think of and still they were so kind and they didn't get annoyed or anything. Thank you very much ladies :) As for the class, Hassan was the awesome fella that taught my classes and he made the class fun.. I am not a fan of school period... ha-ha so I dreaded the classroom. He made it so much fun that I even got 100% on my test! The class was educational and I learned a lot, its not a sit down watch a movie type of class, they will get you to participate in scenarios.Which don't worry, I disliked that in school but it wasn't that bad this time, I don't know if its because I am older now or that I paid money for this and well I better pass... lol Yes I was still nervous even though I got that 100% because I knew I had to get behind that wheel. My instructor was Pete, hands downs best instructor!! I was stressed, second guessing myself, nervous, scared, my stomach was in knots, to boot I made a mistake and cried my eyes out my third lesson. It was like this for the first, second and third lesson... still a little bit for the fourth. The fifth lesson, I was a bit more confident but still nervous. Now, having said this, I am not practicing in between so I only drove 5 times on the road , hence why I was still so nervous. In those lessons, I learned so much from Pete, He did not want to give up on me.... even though I thought about given up on myself driving so many times. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful instructor that took the time showed me how to park, etc. There were many times he had to repeat himself.. which he did :) Thanks Pete. Where most instructors would tell you once, maybe twice and that's it. He is very Patient and understanding, if you are nervous, scared, doubting yourself, I would totally recommend Pete!! I also had Javier for my instructor for a 6th lesson ( keep in mind I couldn't practice so this is my 6th time out) and she was amazing!! She taught a different way in parallel parking that I ended up catching on to a little easier. she was also really helpful in other areas. Javier was kind and understanding with my mistakes, however she mentioned how to correct them. Thank you again for all your help. I do recommend going with a few different instructors, the two I had were really amazing I learned so much from them. I found I couldn't master the parallel park without my instructor beside me.. while doing my road test. ha-ha ( even though with my instructor I mastered it every time) so I ended up going for a 6th lesson and decided to go with a different instructor, well the way they taught me I was able to master the parallel parking. ya!! Thank you very much Derek Brown's Academy for such a wonderful experience, I am more confident behind the wheel and its because of you guys :)

So far I've enrolled in the Class 5 course and honestly I've improved in driving more than I thought I would. With an actual instructor you end up learning more than you would with a parent/guardian and avoid making common mistakes. Of course, there are some people who manage to pass their road test without taking classes, but if you want to learn to drive safely and correctly, I would recommend enrolling in one of these courses for a better chance of passing your test and for your overall safety. The driving sessions have been especially helpful to me, specifically the highway and downtown ones. It's been very useful to have someone guide me through these areas and correct any mistakes I've made before they become habitual so that I have a clear understanding of what I should/shouldn't do. My instructor Qusay Majeed does very well in conveying information and alters his teaching approaches to make sure you fully understand (e.g. demonstrating the maneouver, rephrasing words, etc.) so that you come out of each lesson having learned and improved different skills. Overall, I would say the course is quite beneficial for new drivers who want to cement in good habits right off the bat.

If you're looking for a school that will both boost your skills and confidence, then this is the perfect place to go. I wasn't confident in my driving until I came across this school. I had my instructor Qusay, who is an incredible teacher and a highly experienced driver. He is understanding, but also straight to the point with what you need to work on. With a great sense of humor and a calm demeanor, he will NOT ONLY teach you how to pass your test, but how to be a GOOD and SAFE driver. I 100% recommend him and these courses, as they gave me the confidence I need to drive on the road.

Edited: I took a refresher class with Qusay the other day. He’s very patient, professional and kind. I’m happy to report that I passed my driving test after taking this class. I’m thankful for the experience with this driving school. I took 20 hours driving practice with Robert as a first time driver I find him so calm, and amazingly professional. I learned a lot from him. I recommend this driving school to everyone.

I really want to appreciate my in-car instructor Robert for being nice and patient with an older learner like me. Ahmed did a good job at making the in-class lessons less boring with jokes and sharing personal experiences. However, I would advice the management of the school to work on getting good hands at the reception. The reception should show more empathy and listen to enquiries from customers while providing complete information even when the student did not ask.

My experience with Derek Brown's Driving School was very positive. 5 STAR all the way! My instructor was Adel and he was very consistent in his training, going over the fundamentals as many times as needed in order for me to get every point nailed down and to not miss anything. The training was solid, thorough, descriptive and fun. I now understand air breaks and the safety checks needed to insure safe driving. Adel is my model for confidence and competence and those traits become a part of me as his trainee. Sue was also especially helpful in setting up my training schedule as I needed to fit my schooling in and around my work priorities. Very helpful and encouraging all around.

Had a great experience with my air brake course, log book course as well as my load securement and driving time. The staff is very friendly and give you a reminder of you your appointments. I was lucky enough to get Happy as my driving instructor, he not only gives you great knowledge of how the truck works, but also gives you tips to look out in the future on preventative maintenance. He has tons of experience in the trucking industry and goes through the pre trip inspection step by step and very thoroughly. He got me to get rid of my fears immediately and build my confidence behind the wheel. His techniques are tried, tested and true. His knowledge is vast and he has a lot of tricks on backing up the trailer. all the instructors seem knowledgeable, I was super happy with my experience and would recommend Happy to anyone looking to get their class 1. I came across Derek Brown’s school via Google reviews when I was looking for a driving instructor. Robert stood out to me because he has so many wonderful reviews from “older”, anxious drivers like myself! I was in the mindset where it was so hard to believe I would ever get my license. I cannot rave enough about Robert. He is so thorough and provides great tips, patient instructions, and wonderful feedback. I was SO stressed out to drive and Robert made me feel so calm, and more importantly, confident! Driving aside, he is also a hilarious and interesting man who is really fun to talk to during the lesson. I passed my road test on the first try, thanks to Robert’s super lessons. THANK YOU AGAIN!!

I don't give a 5 star unless it succeeds all and ever exceptions. Dave Noseworthy is the best adult instructor I've ever experienced. With 10 different courses under my belt the time he takes to make sure you are prepared for the test it makes him more then qualified to help you with your future. As a whole I give Derek Browns a 10 star with preparing the future of trucking in the right direction. Great price with very friendly environment there's no other choice I would recommend.

I ended up having two driving instructors here. I must say I was extremely satisfied with the experience and teachings both of them provided. Robert, is a pleasant man who gave me excellent instruction on everything I needed to know to ace the test, while Qusay provided greatly appreciated teaching on what it can be like to drive in the real world. This is not to say that either instructor was lacking on either front. Both of them brought experience, charisma, and teaching skills that made the whole thing pleasant and enjoyable. The proof is in the fact that I passed the test on the first try and felt confident doing it.

The Derek Brown Academy for Driving is undoubtedly the best driving school. The mentors in the two in-class sessions made the whole learning experience fun and we learnt the traffic rules and regulations in a very interactive way. Robert- my in-vehicle instructor is a thorough gentleman and a really nice person. He heard my concerns, helped me overcome them subtly, never criticized harshly but pushed and motivated me all the way. Very disappointed in this driving school. 3 out of 5 appointments had to be rescheduled as the instructor could not make the time we had scheduled. It is extremely frustrating that 4 hours prior to the appointment Derek Brown’s calls to inform you the instructor cannot make the appointment.

I passed the road test at ONE try (made only 2 mistakes) thanks to Derek Brown and my instructor Qusay Majeed's encouragement! I took the Defensive Driving Course with Derek Brown. First I passed the classroom sessions with flying colors but then had to pause my In-Vehicle sessions because of COVID-19 pandemic. When I called earlier this year requesting to resume the in-vehicle sessions, I was scheduled in with Qusay Majeed right away. Qusay is an experienced driver himself. He was very patient in his instruction style and has a great sense of humour. I didn't feel stressed out when practising with him and I improved a lot. After 4 - 5 sessions, Qusay encouraged me to go ahead book a road test because he thought I was more or less ready. I wasn't so confident though, but I trusted his judgement and you know what, I passed it yesterday. Yay. The staff at the academy were always nice, professional and patient with my requests. When I requested for the defensive driving certificate, I received the E copy on the same day and the paper copy arrived by mail just two days later. Generally, I had very positive experience with this driving academy and I'd definitely recommend it to my friends!

I got my Class 1 license thanks to this school. It was cheaper than other places i checked, and i was able to do my training in the evenings. My instructor, Hamza, was great (16 years of experience in driver training!). I'd never driven a semi before, but by the end of the course i confidently ACED the exam, pre-trip inspection and road test. Definitely recommended...

Did my class 1 training with Derek Brown School started with my air brakes instructor was very knowledgeable passed on first try. Then did all my driving hours with Hamza very knowledgeable man I knew very little before he taught me a lifetime of knowledge in 14 hours. When I did my road test the examiner said I was very knowledgeable with every aspect of the truck that is because of Hamza. Needless to say I passed my road test on first try as well.This driving school is worth every penny I had no experience prior of driving big truck highly recommend this course to everyone.

I recently had a driving lesson from Robert as part of my requirements for my job. He was excellent! Super friendly, knowledgeable, engaged, calm - all the things you want in a driving instructor. He instructed me in a retrofitted RV - which is a challenge (and it's what I need to be able to drive) but it was no problem at all for Robert. The 2 hours seemed to go by quickly and I picked up all sorts of pointers and felt way more prepared after the lesson. He even followed up with my by texting tips and reminders for me to keep on my phone to remind myself in the future. Great job!! Update! I just took my yearly driving training for work with Robert again - and he was just as excellent as last time! Our new and returning drivers are all going to him for training now! Thanks Robert!!

I didn't really enjoy the classroom portion. The teaching style was essentially putting us into groups, giving us a couple minutes to answer long questions, then being put onto the spot to answer these questions. The instructor would tell us what questions we got wrong or right, but at the end of the 15 hours, I felt like I learnt nothing. I was only there to get it done and over with. But the driving portion with the instructor was very helpful. I had zero driving experience prior to the school, because my parents didn't want to teach me. But after the 10 hours, I felt very comfortable driving. And I was able to pass my drivers test in one shot. Good luck to everyone who's learning!

All the courses offered were very affordable and gave us lots of driving time, providing enough confidence and skills to be on the road immediately. The experience in the classroom was very pleasant. The instructors were patient and informative, giving every student enough one on one attention. I had a lot of fun in the truck simulator. The driving instructor (Karen) was always on time and prepared for all driving lessons in the truck. I highly reccomend this academy to anyone interested in any driving related courses.

I took the Basic Class 5 course. My classroom instructors were Hassan and Ahmed. They were both very energetic, funny, and engaging. The classroom sessions flew by because Hassan and Ahmed made them so enjoyable! All the students had to participate in discussions and demonstrations, which I found to be much more effective than traditional lecture-style lessons, when it can be easy to zone out. The visual examples and videos also made it easy to recognize and react to the same situations when I encountered them during my in-car lessons. My in-car instructor was Robert. At the start of our first lesson, I told him that driving made me extremely anxious and nervous, and that I hadn't practiced for years because I was so scared of driving. Right off the bat he assured me that that was going to change! I was amazed at how patient, calm, and friendly he was the entire time, and how nicely he delivered constructive criticism and corrected my mistakes. I didn't have friends or family who could take me for additional practice, so I was relying solely on those 10 hours with Robert to prepare me for my road test. By the end of my last lesson, I was a much more confident driver, and wondering what I'd been so scared of all these years. I took the road test a few weeks after my last lesson and I passed! The ladies at the front desk were always extremely friendly and helpful, both in person and over the phone. Even before I enrolled in the course, I e-mailed them with some questions and they were very quick to reply. Derek Brown's Academy of Driving transformed me from an anxious, sweaty mess to a safe and confident driver! I am still in awe at how genuinely caring and helpful everyone was. I should have taken this course years ago. Thank you to everyone at Derek Brown's for such a phenomenal experience!

I got my Class 1 and airbrakes there. Cannot say enough good about my teachers. Karen, Dan and Robert were all amazing. Always able to answer any questions I had and are awesome at getting their point across. Learned some really cool tricks to help me through me career and shape me into the professional driver I am today. Yard needs more attention in my opinion. Better salting and taking care of the icy situation there to make it safe for students and teachers. Also better arranging of training and exam times or more parking spots would help alot as we spent hours literally waiting for other people to finish their training or exam so we can continue our own. Also connecting the in-class portion of the course to the yard will make it alot more enjoyable and even easier for the teacher to explain visually with the proper tools and equipment there.

My two indian instructors are not good at all. Its like I have to guess what I have to do instead telling me directly what should I do. They will discourage and tell you that you will never learn how to drive so what’s the point of going to driving school if a person will never be able to drive. I signed up for Class 5 course at Derek brown, I couldn't have asked for a better driving school. Its by far the best in Calgary. In class with Hassan and Ahmed are very informative, both are very good teacher they made classes non-boring, very interactive and fun. Being a new comer to Calgary, I felt very comfortable. Derek Brown's is a pretty great driving school, not only for the price but the availability and flexibility of the classroom & driving teachers. Both of them has charismatic instructors that emphasizes the important components of driving test-wise and especially when you're on the road. (Nick) Driving Instructor is always on time and can easily be contacted when arranging schedules whether you want to get picked up at home or work (basically anywhere).The instructions are straight forward and easy to understand and they're pretty lenient on what you want to learn and where you want to drive (have fun going down the traffic circle in McKenzie Towne hahaha DON'T.) All in all, the time spent at Derek Brown's is a positive one.

If it wasn't for her I would have never passed my test. She only wanted me to succeed. She knew what my weaknesses were and we worked on them. I took my class 1 melt program with Dan Veno in class and for pretrips and he is very knowledgeable. The in-class portion was pretty dry but he always had some good stories to keep it interesting. He’s phenomenal at the teaching the pretrip portion so if you can get on with him, I’d suggest it. For the road portion and backing , I had Mehar and he’s great with teaching tips and tricks and helping you out when you need. Both instructors have taken time out of their day to answer questions and help out wherever they can.

Driving instructor was awesome!! but Did not go through something with me on the brush up drives, I ended up failing my test and didn’t even get to go for the drive, examiner (not an employee of Derek browns) docked me marks for build up pressure during the air brake test (which I did 100% correctly) also docked me marks for not checking the gas caps and side of sleeper during the pre-trip Which I also did 100% correctly!! then put my seatbelt on to do the air brake test and he looked at me and said “why are you putting your seatbelt on” (habit) he said “seems kind of stupid to me since you have to get out again” could not believe what I heard! I’m baffled, the driving examiner obviously had it out for me, I would recommend the school.

I definitely recommend this school to anyone that want to obtain his/her class 1 license. I have passed my first road driving test couple of weeks ago. The school staff are very professional and friendly. Class and driving instructors are also knowledgeable and experienced. Although I had David for the class portion and Hamza for the driving portion of the course, all the other instructors are as good according to their student’s feedback who already passed the test. The knowledge that I gained from the course helped me pass the test and will certainly help me with work as well. I like to thank all the school staff and God bless.

Amazing office staff and amazing instructors for both in class and on the road training. Passed class 1 road test first try. You are limited to a certain number of hours with your instructor teaching you therefore, if you want to do well, you will have to commit to studying on your own time as well. I had a terrible experience and it was a waste of money. I would advise anybody looking for a driving school to go anywhere else. The inclass portion is not terrible but it feels like you are in a junior high class. My driving instructor Pete S. was extremely rude and constantly lost his temper. On my first lesson he called me stupid and throughout my other lessons he yelled at me, he tried to teach some unsafe methods and would laugh at me when I did something that was not to his liking. Peter was extremely disrespectful and as a driving instructor he should be a calm and understanding person but he is an aggressive person that is rude to people who should not be anywhere near a driving school. For anybody that is considering Derek Browns driving school you should reconsider because the staff here are rude and unprofessional who just want your money. Peter is an example of a terrible teacher. He yells, loses his temper, makes fun of you personally, he seems to lack basic knowledge of safe rules of the road. A man who insults his students should not even be in the car with people who want to learn.

My instructor Qusay Majeed was very good at teaching me how to handle a vehicle and stay active while driving. when I first got there i had really only done time on highways but he went slowly with me pointing out my mistakes and showing and telling me how I can correct them. later on when I was comfortable with driving he took me out of areas where I was comfortable when we were doing highway driving and downtown and took me to confusing and stressful roads to push me and to make a lasting impression of the harder roads that I found normal roads to be way easier and more relaxing comparatively, aswell as giving me the knowledge on how to handle the tougher roads citys can throw at you. during the recap on the last day I told him what I needed to go back over and he retaught me anything I forget and needed practice on. overall he was a good instructor and I would recommend him strongly for any new driver.

Very worthwhile course. the in-class was very informative, and will help a great deal with insurance. The in-car portion is even more beneficial. One of the worst truck driving school in Calgary. The instructor always plays games on phone while you are on truck. I have taken three classes each of 2 hours. In that 6hours they just show me how to back the truck. The instructor always leaves 15 minutes before the finish time.THey didn't even return my fees. They didn't even let me drive truck on road so how the person will pass the test.So Plz don't waste your money in this school.

This driving school was amazing! My road instructor, which was Qusay Majeed, was the best instructor their could be. He was very consistent with reminding me on my little mistakes, and made me feel comfortable with driving, since I was scared. My instructor was Robert for the driving portion. He taught me the various maneuvers and polished up on my driving in general. His instruction helped me pass my test in the first go.

I did my driving course last year with DBA and it was great. The in-class portion was very interesting, and I think that was mostly due to the great teachers. My driving instructor was Pete and found him to be a great instructor. I was a very, very anxious driver but he never gave up and was very patient. Driving lessons with him boosted my confidence greatly. I will add, that Pete has a dry and sarcastic humour which if you are not used to could be off-putting, especially if you think he is being serious, haha. Being from the UK, where that humour is everywhere, I found it funny. I took one star away as I didn't receive my insurance discount at the end of the course. I would recommend this driving school though, especially for those who are very nervous.

For my overall experience with Derek Brown I will rate them 4. I was already trained with another school for few hours but I never practiced after the classes neither I attempted a test so I was really rusty, but now it was urgent for me to clear the test and get license, which actually was very well understood by their front staff Ms. Anisa (hope I got her name right), she was really helpful , showed so much concern and as per my schedule she arranged all my classes. So for the front staff I would like to give a 5 star. The first 8 hrs was trained by Ms. Kamaljeet, and that turned out to be a real waste of time and money as she never corrected me on anything , when I went for test the examiner pointed out so many things which she never corrected while teaching and also was contradictory to what Kamaljeet taught. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND KAMALJEET. Then luckily all my rest of the classes were with Mr. Qusaay Majeed, my savior. If you want to be a good and confident driver then one should definitely ask for him. If you have 5 positive points and 10 negative points in your driving skills he would never point out your faults instead he would just praise you for your positive ones and tactfully he would correct all your negative ones too. By the end of the session you will learn all techniques, skills to be a very confident driver. He is friendly and gem of a person. I WOULD DEFINTELY RECOMMEND MR. QUSAAY MAJEED. I would like to give him a 5 star rate as well. thank you Anisa, Thank you Mr. Qusaay and definitely Thank you Derek Brown for helping me to get my license in a very short span of time.

Robert was an amazing in-car instructor. He was patient, friendly and knows the laws of the road very well. Even after many repetitive mistakes and being as shaken up as I was, he stayed patient and helped me through it. Many times he prevented accidents with his quick thinking and manuvering. His visuals and explanations made it easy to see what I was doing wrong and how to fix my driving habits. He showed me my flaws and helped me correct them successfully, and now I feel far more confident on the road. The in class sessions were very educating, however it is important to know the flaws in your driving, as you are going to be doing a road test. And the only way to do that is with an exceptional in-car instructor like Robert. Thanks Robert!

I took the brush-up lesson (2 hours training) with an old white guy in preparation for my class 5 GDL road test...(it costs 120$ while other instructors take only 100$) I do not usually give bad reviews but my experience with this trainer was nothing but a nightmare...I have been driving for 15 years and according to him i know nothing about driving...he made me lose my confidence...and kept complimenting himself all the time that he has been driving for 38 years now...I tell you what..I passed my class 5 GDL test a month ago and last week i passed my class 5 test the first time...I wonder where this nonsense came from...he kept talking and talking about himself and kept saying the word capisce after every bullshit story he told me about...I highly do not recommend training with this arrogant crazy old white "capisce" man!!!...he only made me lose my confidence and did not add anything to my driving experience or taught me anything new...I am using "white guy" term because i forgot the instructor's name..otherwise i would mention his name here so people can avoid taking lessons with him...

I came to Derek Brown's to get my Class 1 Drivers License. Derek Browns allowed me to book the course and make payments until the course started which was great. Making payments allowed me to keep my head above the water while waiting for the course to start. The girls at the front desk were very accommodating when it came to scheduling my in yard and driving time. The in class portion is done by Dan Veno Lead Instructor. Dan is fantastic, in class he first made sure he got to know each of us. He made it personal which showed me he really cared. Dan is a very experienced Commercial Truck Driver, his knowledge of everything is vast and has great information to learn as a new driver. I was very lucky to get Dan for pretty much the whole course. The way he taught me the pre - trip and air brakes was so easy yet filled with so much information that I did it perfect on my road test and still do it the way he taught me now. Dan was my instructor for the backing up and driving as well. Like I said at the start of this review, I didn't know anything about driving a truck or backing up a trailer. Backing up is no easy task, it requires patience, an understanding of how a truck and trailer moves together and a great teacher to teach you. Dan was just that, he easily caught what I was doing wrong and worked with me to correct it. Being on the road with Dan was great, he took me to places that really challenged me and constantly worked on any of my shortcomings. Even after finishing the course and getting my licence Dan is still available to answer any questions or just to talk for a few minutes. I only had a little time with Karen and Wendell, but the time I did have with them was great. They both had tips for me that would help me in my career as a professional driver. My overall experience with Derek Browns was great. If you are looking for a school that will go that extra mile with a payment plan or a difficult schedule or to have instructors that treat you like gold and really show they care , then look no further because you are on the right track with Derek Browns Driving Academy.

Thinking of upgrading your license then look no further than Derek Browns Driving Academy.I've gone from running a day home to driving a truck, so if I can do it then anyone can. My instructor Karen was awesome! She showed patience, persistence,and was so consistent with instructions it was easy once it sinks in. We went over the mechanics of the vehicle many times until I really understood how things worked and didn't move on till I under stood how it worked. After learning the air-brakes and the pre-trip inspection the driving test was easy. Karen is structured, repetitive, and consistent in her learning techniques of teaching ,which in turn makes it easy to understand. She is one of the best instructors I have ever come across and would recommend the Academy for driving and this instructor to anyone who wishes to upgrade or refresh their driving skills. See you soon Karen to get my class i done! Thanks Karen for being so persistent in your teaching methods, and for being so patient with me. With instructors like Karen you learn the right way the first time!

yesterday I only had 2 hours of road practice, Robert quickly taught me parallel planking in a scientific way, and a lot of details,I took the level 5 basic road test this afternoon, it only took me more than 10 minutes to complete the whole test, I only lost 30 points, thanks Robert a million!????

Seriously the best driving school ever! So first off... The staff that works there is awesome and they are super friendly and welcoming!! When I went to Derek Brown's I was literally TERRIFIED of getting behind the wheel.. I am 27 and it was long overdue to get over my fear and start driving. The ladies working in there were super awesome and told me that Id learn everything and not be scared anymore. First the in-classroom which is 15 hours and so fun!!! Don't be worried about the test because the class instructor Ahmed is awesome and fun and you will learn everything you need to pass! Then the driving... I had a guy named Robert as my instructor for the 10 hours. Robert is SO AWESOME!!! He will stay completely calm the whole time and will make you feel super calm. I was so scared on my first 2 hours and he made me feel not only ready to drive but excited to drive. He has amazing methods for parallel parking, downhill, uphill and everything you can think of. He's also super funny and never once got upset or yelled and freaked out or anything like that. He just shows you how to correct it and he definitely will help give you the tools to make you a better driver. You wont be dreading going to do driving, you'll be s pumped up and ready to rock it! Thanks to Robert and how amazing his teaching is; I not only passed the course with an A but I also OWNED my road test on the first try! I even was able to do my road test right after my last 2 hours so I got my class 5 GDL 30 minutes after my last 2 hours!!!! So super happy with Derek Browns Academy of Driving!!! Definitely worth the money I paid! Id give 10 STARS but it only lets me do 5!!! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! Especially YOU Robert!!! Ill be back for the Winter Driving course!!!
