Dr. Smardon does not suffer fools gladly

On March 15th, 2019 at 11am I was at LifeLabs on Fort Street in Victoria, BC getting blood work done. I was at the desk paying for a vitamin D test that my Naturopath and Medical Doctor had requested I get. An older male standing beside me said “Or you could go buy a bottle of Vitamin D for $12.99 and save the money” I replied “I was asked to get the test because my naturopath is worried I am chronically low” he replied “That doesn’t exist. I’m a doctor upstairs and all naturopaths are quacks” I replied “I would appreciate you not giving me your opinion when I didn’t ask for it” he replied “No I will because Naturopaths are all quacks who have no place in the medical system.” I said “Naturopaths go to school just as long as Medical Doctors do” he replied “No they don’t, they are all people who couldn’t get into medical school so went to be naturopaths instead” I replied “One of my close friends got into Medical school and Naturopathic school and chose to be a Naturopath” He replied “I don’t believe that” I asked what his name was and he said “Dr.Smardon” I asked “How do you spell that?” He replied “I’m not telling you that” he then told the woman at the front desk that he would talk to her later and walked out of the office. When I was 20 years old I was bed ridden with chronic infections and fatigue. I went to multiple Medical Doctors and never got any answers. Going to a Naturopath saved my life. The reason this incident is so upsetting to me is because Dr.Roy Smardon is spreading lies which could lead to the public not getting the care they require. I believe in the Medical system and the Naturopathic system. We need both for different reasons and these two professions need to build bridges NOT walls. This was an extremely upsetting incident for me to be verbally attacked by a doctor while getting fasted blood work done. I have been dealing with fairy extreme health issues and am trying to get to the bottom of things. Naturopaths have greatly helped me in the past so I chose to go see one again. This interaction was inappropriate, abusive and completely unprofessional. I sincerely hope no one else has to deal with this in the future.

I would not recommend Dr. Smardon. I had gone in to get my testosterone levels tested and get a requisition. He asked me what symptoms I was experiencing. After telling him, and as most doctors do, he recommended antidepressants. He reluctantly ordered my tests. After finding out I needed to pay out of pocket for a part of the test, I went back to get a new requisition. This time he made it very hard to simply get the same requisition again but with the addition of writing private pay. I had told him and showed him the email from Lifelabs showing I needed to come back. Not only did he have no idea that's how it worked he also had no idea what SHBG was?? Mind boggling for a doctor to not know of such a simple term. Again he chalked my symptoms up to depression. He had also been wrong about the normal range indicated on the lab results. I had told him several times that it included people of all ages but he said over and over that it was relative to my own age group. I sent an email to Lifelabs and they confirmed the range was from 13-100 years old. At the end of our exchange he reluctantly gave me my requisition and before quickly leaving the room stated, "I'm busy with medical things, this is more for vanity." I have never encountered such a horrible physician. He completely ignored and didn't care for any of my issues. And was completely misinformed about several things. I honestly feel very bad for his patients, I have to wonder how many are getting the wrong treatment. This combined with the review before mine, Please do yourself a favor, walk a few blocks down the street and see a real doctor.

I went to see a doctor here 12/29/2021 I saw some reviews before I go but this one was the only clinic I could make a reservation so I went. First of all R.Smardon should not be a doctor. He gave me pointless advice and he said I am in hurry so he left. Right after I left this clinic I start felling sick it’s been linger couple of days. I went to see a doctor to cure my own problems but they gave me more problem. My advice to everyone Don’t even consider to go.
