REVIEWS OF Dr. Heather McLeod, Family Physician IN North Vancouver

Carla Monique Gardini de Godoi

I had my baby 8 days ago and I never felt so well taken care of like I was during my pregnancy and delivery. Dr. McLeod was very patience and gave me full assistance during my pregnancy. It is my first baby and I had many questions. She was always patient and explained me everything I should expect in each month. Even with her office always busy, her receptionists and she never rushed me or made me feel unassisted. She explained all the tests I needed to take during pregnancy. Thanks to her I knew exactly what to expect. At the end of pregnancy I was overdue and she knew that I wanted a natural delivery. She induce me and send me to hospital to check my baby every day after 40 weeks. I felt safe and I knew she was doing the best to keep my baby and I safe. Due to some complications I ended up having a C-section and my baby was delivered safe and healthy. The following days after my delivery she came to check on me in the hospital and gave me all the support I needed. Thank you very much for your care Dr. Heather McLeod!

Dr. Mcleod has cared for my family for 15 years. We don't visit often, but when we do, she knows something is up and she acts quickly and concisely. Her instincts are good, she is smart, caring and knowledgable. We are glad she has included us in her medical family. We can recommend Dr. Mcleod... especially for young families starting out...

Usually runs about 30-60min late but is never rude or rushed. Being a first time mom I am anxious about a lot and have a lot of questions, but she is very personable, knowledgable, and easy to approach. I am confident that when I need her come delivery time she will do everything to be there and ensure baby and myself are happy and healthy. Receptionist are always a delight even when busy.

I had a horrible experience with this doctor. She pushed me into having an epidural, telling me I was lousy at pain management. This was after over eight hours of back labour, and close contractions following cervadil. She allowed a male student to stitch up my episiotomy, even though I objected due to PTSD from trauma. I specifically said I would only permit him to observe, and only personally touch me above the groin. She pushed me into putting my son in the nursery, even though he was perfectly healthy, and the nurses would not return him to me, because he was supposedly on a "formula feeding schedule." I was not told why he was being so strictly fed and monitored, as even the doctor said he was a good healthy weight and did not have any breathing problems. I had severe Post Partum anxiety from being kept away from my newborn for so long. She was constantly finding excuses to make me use formula, when it was not needed, rather than encouraging my breastfeeding efforts. I had a spinal migraine due to a misplaced epidural, so I ended up being too sick to nurse initially. He was fast losing weight and became jaundiced when eating the formula. He puked up nearly all of it. A friend donated frozen breast milk, and he immediately began to plump up. His coloured returned and he thrived. I began successfully breastfeeding after that. Beware this doctor if you want to continue nursing past six months. She yelled at me that my baby would have brain damage due to the fact that I delayed solids until about seven months due to him having an ear infection at six months. She said he should be eating solids from Four Months Old, and eating three solid meals per day by seven months. She took one look at him and said he was iron deficient. I asked if she thought he should have a blood test then, and she said she didn't need one to diagnose him, because he was pale. He naturally has very pale skin, as do I. She said I shouldn't keep nursing him as breast milk has no nutritional value past six months. She seemed determined to make me quit breastfeeding, and to make me buy overpriced formula that I didn't need. I took him to a lactation consultant who said he was great and healthy and hitting every milestone. She encouraged to keep doing what I was doing, and I stopped seeing McLeod until I moved and found a new doctor. I nursed him successfully to 17 months, along with solids. Never did he need formula supliments during that time. I went on to have a second child who had no issues whatsoever. I delivered her with no problems and in the way I wanted with a doulas present. She was chubby and healthy. I nursed her until about 15/16 months, when she basically weaned herself. The doctor said I could introduce solids whenever she showed interest, a little at a time. I have heard many similar complaints from other moms about her attitude towards nursing.

Big thanks to Dr. McLeod for helping me with my 2 pregnancies. If we’re talking about real passion and care for patients, she is the doctor you should go to. She always has a smile on her face and ready to answer any questions you may have. I gave birth recently and she stayed with me in the hospital for 6hrs! Considering it’s the wee hrs of the morning, she barely had slept on that day and still had to work in her clinic the whole day to check on patients. That is real passion and commitment! We moved out of the Northshore but still decided to go through her with my second. We don’t mind the long drive for we know my little one is in great hands. May God bless you and the work of your hands. My family and I really appreciate you for who you are and what you do. ❤️????????

Dr. McLeod is an excellent physician. She is very thorough in her care and always takes time to make sure that my needs as her patient are met. She was a lifesaver in the delivery room. Calm and pleasant. She delivered my first and second baby. Highly recommend her as a family physician.

Dr. McLeod was our family doctor for over fifteen years. She delivered my two children and took care of them, my wife and I with great empathy and professionalism. We are eternally grateful to her knowledge and attention!

MomsDayOut

I have an awful experience with her. Changed doctors 7 months into my pregnancy. Cares about her end and not so much the mom. Doesn't repeat wishes that are different from hers. Go with a mid wife!!

Dr. McLeod has been our GP for 5 years and we could not be happier. She is kind, caring, patient, attentive and knowledgeable. She's been great with my two kids, and was wonderful through my pregnancy. My kids are healthy and thriving due to her advice and direction, and her commitment to her patients is unwavering. The staff at her clinic (especially Ethel!) are wonderful, too.

I had my first child in 2006 and my second in 2008; I couldn’t have asked for a better Dr. Dr Mcleod is caring, honest, logical, and my kids love to see her once in a while as we don’t leave in North Van anyone. For all important matters, I trust her and book with her; and my husband doesn’t wanna get a new dr in our neighborhood as he finds her very competent. Thank you Dr. McDonald for all you’ve done for us during the last 15 years*****

Chris

Dr, McLeod is caring and understanding and knows what she's doing. I've been with her for a few years and I always feel comfortable. I trust her. I travel from Coquitlam to North Van because of her.

I first met Dr Heather McLeod when pregnant with my daughter in 2016. I found her to be incredibly thorough and knowledgeable across all aspects of my pregnancy, labor and delivery. We had some complications late in my pregnancy, as well as early on when my daughter was born, and Dr McLeod went out of her way to answer our questions, see us after hours, and research our situation thoroughly to ensure we felt confident and were armed with all of the information required. We are fortunate to have a healthy little girl now and continue to use Dr McLeod as our family physician. The care provided to us has always felt well beyond that which I would expect from our GP.

Dr. Heather McLeod is my family doctor for the last 7 years. She has helped me safely deliver my first daughter and is currently taking care about my second pregnancy. Even though the waiting times for the appointment can take longer than expected, but it is worth the wait. Dr. McLeod is always taking her time to happily educate and supply materials and answer questions during my appointments. I am very happy to be her patient and cannot thank her more for the professionalism and positive altitude.

I have always had such great care from Dr.McLeod over the past couple years and especially throughout my pregnancy at the moment. I had to be recently monitored at the hospital and she came as soon as she could to check on me and make sure me and my baby were safe. I’m overly impressed with how attentive and caring she is for her patients and would definitely recommend having her as your doctor if you get the chance to!

My son and I had the pleasure of having Dr. McLeod as our Family Doctor for six months. We unfortunately have decided to relocate across the country and she will be greatly missed. I highly recommend her, she’s fantastic!

Dr. McLeod has been our family doctor for more than five years. Dr. McLeod is knowledgeable, professional and caring. With her specialization in labour and delivery, we had the benefit of having our family doctor deliver our baby. Dr. McLeod demonstrates care for both mom and baby, and she truly respects the patient’s choice. We count ourselves lucky to have Dr. McLeod as our family doctor.

My wife and I both found her rather arrogant. She once left me waiting for an hour, the staff is rude.

SHADI Dino

Dr. McLeod has been my doctor for several years. She has taken extremely good care of me through both of my pregnancies and takes the most amazing care of my boys. She is very knowledgeable and dedicates her time to her patients so you really feel cared for. Our family is extremely grateful for Dr. McLeod and all that she does for our family!

I haven't been with Dr.Mcleod for a while but i still wanted to write this review. I had been with her for years and I have to say, she was one of the best doctors I ever had. When i was pregnant she explained everything from risks to next steps. Whenever I had a question or concern I could book an appt to come in and talk to her. My daughter absolutely loved her. When i was enduced, she came every morning to check on me and when it was time to have my daughter later in the night, she made sure she was there with me when she could have been at home with her family She was funny, attentive and very caring. Both my daughter and I miss her very much. Maybe we'll come back if she's still taking patients. I definately recommend her.

Unfortunately doctor who works in this clinic doesn't care about patient and how thry feel. This is our people's health. Long story short: My husband's blood test results were off. He ended up in the hospital due to a serious condition that, if left untreated, could have been fatal. I'm amazed that none of the doctors could spot the signs. They just kept trying to push pills (often the incorrect pill for the problem, like an anti-depressant!). Instead of getting him treatment right away, we wasted two months with this clinic. TERRIBLE. Don't waste your time here.

Heather McLeod has been my doctor for over 2 babies. My oldest is 4 and my youngest is 5 months. I find her very through, and positive. She wants to see the babies in her care thriving and doing well. With my first baby I had a very straight forward pregnancy and birth. I had an Un-medicated labour and just did pain management in the bath tub, she never pressured me to take any pain medicines nor did she mention anything about it. She supported my decision to breastfeed my baby, because she was gaining weight and thriving. I breastfed my baby until 8months and I switched to formula purely so I could get a break. Heather supported my breastfeeding decision and my formula decision. I had trouble conceiving my second child and when I raised concerned Heather was quick to start blood tests and get the ball rolling, she was very supportive during this time. When I got pregnant she closely monitered my blood pressure as it was slightly high, nothing to be concerned about, but she wanted to make sure me and the baby were safe. For my seconds birth I used gas for pain management for the last half an hour of pushing. My milk took a while to come in for my second so I supplemented with formula, but also breastfed. Heather was very supportive, and encouraging as a I had a hard time with it thinking I was “failing” my baby. She was there to reassure me that a fed baby is the best baby. Heather was so encouraging during my labour, always very calm and kept me very calm. I always knew me and my babies were in good hands. I have actually moved out of north van but make the 1 hour commute just to keep her as my doctor, because she is trustworthy and so caring. My only complaint would be she’s usually running late, but I believe it is because she spends so much time with her patients in the hospital and the clinic, making sure they are comfortable, and building relationships with them, this is hard to find in a doctor. So the waiting is a small price to pay.

I didn’t see any problem until I had problems, then I realized Dr.Mcleod weren’t reading notes or worse didn’t write them. If you go with her, I wish you to get lucky and that everything will go well; if not I hope you or your partner will remember everything because apparently she doesn't.

Great family Dr, good with kid's shots and very trustworthy.

UNACCEPTABLE. As I arrived for my appointment, the receptionist let’s me know it has been cancelled and they called me 10 minutes ago to inform me Dr. McLeod had to go to the hospital. Sorry, I couldn’t answer, as I was driving to the appointment! This is the second time I’ve had this experience with this doctor. While I can very much understand that the doctor must attend to labour and delivery at Lion’s Gate around the clock - but surely you have enough notice to cancel and reschedule your appointments rather than leaving it to the last 10 minutes. Please consider and respect my time, I would rather not prepare and drive over with a one year old for no reason. Most of the sentiments I have expressed here are echoed by MANY others on reviews at ratemds.com. This office needs better management.

I honestly can say that I feel lucky to be a patient Dr. McLeod. It's nearly impossible to find a family physician in the city and to find someone, who cares and takes their time with each patient is even more difficult. I've read reviews highlighting waiting times. From my personal experience I sometimes have to wait 20-30 minutes for my appointment, but I don't mind at all. She never rushes through your visit, takes her time to answer all the questions you have, and is honestly just a pleasure to deal with. I also like her honest approach. She practices common sense medicine, which I really appreciate. I'm staying with her through my pregnancy and couldn't be happier.

Unprofessional! I waited for over an hour for my appointment. I know it is difficult to determine how long you will be with each of your patients but when thy phone you the day before and ask you to come half an hour earlier than you had booked and you sit there for twice as long as when your appointment was originally supposed to begin, it is a little frustrating. That being said, Heather was knowledgeable, I know that. That being said, she undermined my naturopath who has been caring for me for 2 years, telling me that her choices for me were not science-based. She the. Proceeded to look at my prenatal vitamins and said she couldn't find the folate on it... First of all, prenatals must have folate in them, second of all, it was 4th on the list and I was getting enough. When I told her I had a midwife who had been caring for me since my ectopic and 2 miscarriages she asked me why I was using a midwife who didn't have privileges at lionsgate. When I said I was planning on having a home birth she told me "I dont believe in home-births and, as you can see by all my photos on the wall (there are hundreds of photos of babies and families) I have delivered lots of babies". I found her cold, ignorant and really un-comforting. For someone who had had to grieve 3 losses already and who is in excellent health, I felt very unsupported. She also asked me point blank (when I first walked in) how much I exercise and if I often think that if I don't exercise I will get fat. She then asked me if I have an eating disorder. As an RN I don't even need to hold my hand on my pulse points to know what my pulse is... It is always well below the unsafe zone for pregnancy. I would highly recommend that women do their own research and choose wisely if they even want an MD as their doctor for pre-during- and post natal care.. Women have been delivering healthy babies for centuries.

Heather Mcleod has been my family doctor for 9 years now since my first pregnancy, she will shortly be delivering my fourth child. My first pregnancy was extremely difficult especially nearing the end, I truly believe it was heathers knowledge and dedication to her patients well being that kept me alive, I have since had an additional 3 difficult pregnancies of which Heather has always managed very well. I would over and over again recommend Heather Mcleod, I have always found Heather to deliver the utmost level of care. I truly believe she cares about each and everyone one of her patients, she will also spend all the time you need with her, she will not rush you out or limit what you can speak about during an appointment. Her level of dedication is extremely high and I cannot say more about how lucky I feel to have her for my family doctor. Sometimes her office is busy but I know that she delivering a level of care which takes time and that is more than ok with me.

Dr. McLeod has been my doctor for over 20 years. I am in my 50's and I can sincerely say that she is one of the best doctors I have ever experienced. She is always first and foremost very kind and she always takes the time to listen to you and ask all the significant questions to come up with either the best diagnosis or plan moving forward that she can. I've never felt rushed or brushed off when I'm with her, as I know can happen with other doctors, and I have always felt very supported, above and beyond, by her. I'm very happy to have had her as my doctor for so very long.

Andrew George

If you want an experienced, knowledgeable doctor who will tell you how it is, Dr. Macleod is for you. Confident, thoughtful, takes time to explain things and answer questions. If you want a doctor who tells you it's ok to use your essential oils and and amber teething necklaces rather than medical products or other scientifically-based things, keep looking.
