-my spouse recently has had reconstructive surgery on his hands due to lss of mobility from a 3rd degree burn injury he endured in 2019. its been a struggle for him to receive proper care on in this province and he's always been treated with bias and judgement by most nurses/doctors/pharmacists. recently the wrapping on his latest surgery looked like a child did it ( i wont point fingers here, it was not done at carbonear!!) but it fell off and I had to re-wrap it myself over 10 times with supplies from the dollarama medical section.- our experience last night in the emergency room at carbonear was wonderful! he had just had a surgery on the 15th of january and had a wrapping on his hand covering grafting/stitches. it started having a strange smell so we went in. he was seen to in a timely fashion even though it was busy, nurses were very sympathetic and reassuring the whole. the two nurses who treated my spouse were amazing! one was named Terry lynn i believe and i have forgotten the name of the other im sorry! the hand was becoming infected,they said a prayer for him and his injuries while they cleaned his hand and we spoke about our cats to keep away anxiety. Nurse Terri Lynn did a magnificent job on the wrapping and its stayed in place all night and shows no signs of unraveling! thank you so much from me and Stephen!

It seems as though none of the staff want to be there, and majority are extremely rude to the patients. They don't look up from their phones, and they get upset when the sick patients ask for their bathroom to get some attention???

My husband was in recently for 6 days with a serious skin problem - swelling, etc. The doctor was treating him for a kidney problem and practically ignored the skin condition; She "consulted" over the phone with a dermatologist instead of having him sent in town and seen by one as we kept asking. The problem got even more serious. The care at Carbonear was less than expected, nurses are too overworked.

The emergency room is a disaster. It seems that they aren't equipped to deal with major issues. Every time I had real pain, I was still left to sit in the waiting room for 7 hours and when the doctors do see you they make it seem like you're nagging them. Horrible experiences here.

I had a bacterial lung infection as did my mother while we were visiting NL. We spent 6 hours in the carbonear ER and within that time we saw 2 other patients be called in. The waiting room was jam packed and people were leaving after waiting for hours. When we finally were seen by a doctor in his 40s short with a goatee. He refused to give us antibiotics and said we would be fine. Well thanks for nothing and because of ur negligence as a health care provider we returned home and spread this lovely bacterial infection to our loved ones. Thankfully our Ontario doctors know what they're doing and promptly gave us antibiotics and inhalers. I advise anyone who is considering going to this hospital to not waste your time and drive to St.johns. Thanks to this doctor I was off sick from work upon returning home. I'm still recovering and a few other family members are now suffering with this infection and having to take time off work to recoup. I'm pretty sure a third world hospital could do better and probably cleaner. I've never seen such a dirty ER. And in the 6hrs there I saw one nurse, one office assistant, two doctors and two paramedics assessing patients before being seen by doctors. Are they that short staffed that they need to pull paramedics off their ambulances to do vitals in the ER?? Sorry but looking at this hospital you wouldnt believe it's in Canada.

Very happy with Carbonear General Hospital. Seen Family Doctor 2 days ago and ordered CT Scan. Here now getting it done. Two day wait time, which; is amazing!

It’s not fair to give a low rating for this hospital. It’s Eastern Health that’s the problem for not providing the staffing and financial requirements to keep the standards at what they need to be. The staff, from the laundry room to highest physician/surgeon are top notch caring, educated people. They are worked to death. You are only kidding yourself if you think it’s better at Health Science. All the hospitals have the same issue. Understaffed and underfinanced.

This place is a dump. Went in for bloodwork and refused multiple times. Impossible to find a family doctor anywhere and here is not the place.
