Lovely clinic and caring family doctors. The online booking and phone lines can be a bit of a challenge but waits are never long and my son and I get great care from Dr.S.
I became a patient of Dr. Smirnov during my surrogacy pregnancy. She had taken me and my son on as patients after the birth of my surrogate baby. She has always taken the utmost care of us. She is pleasant and professional and when there were concerns with my pregnancy she was quick to act and informative. She is an amazing doctor, I have never had such a diligent, and genuinely caring doctor. The clinic staff are kind and polite and the whole atmosphere is pleasant. I really like that if you need to see a doctor right away, that they have a good system in place and can get you in right away even if its not with your personal doctor there is always some same day appointments available for those important last minute things! I also see Dr. Trottier-B, for my son who has ADHD and had significantly struggled with his diagnosis for the first year. She was so helpful informing us, and working with us to aid my son to live and function with his ADHD.
Felt very cared for from start of pregnancy to birth and beyond. Amazing group of doctors.
As the father of the child I felt i had zero say in anything and when asked about the side effects of anti depressants like zoloft on babies my question was dismissed and told there was none. No side effects to be concerned about for the baby or the mother. The Dr there was also quick to anger when i asked them why they refused to explain to me how the drugs worked and side effects claiming they had "emotional problems" and issues controlling their anger. One of the worst experiences I ever had with a dr. Also my partner called the on call dr and was told her call was not improtant and was hung up on. So nasty!!!!
I didn’t have a good experience with a LOCUM there. It was very impersonal. Also, when the exams results were a bit out of the average and extra attention became necessary, I didn’t feel well supported at all. I had to change to another clinic and could confirm the difference in attention and professionalism I finally was able to have.
Does not matter the severity of your appointment. Be prepared for 3 weeks wait no matter what is wrong with you or your family. Also be prepared to write off a day of work for a simple note and be lied to about its delivery. GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!
Dr. S is very professional, kind and seems to truly care about our families health. All i can ask from a GP.
If I could give Grow Health 0 stars I would. If there is one decision you make, PLEASE I beg you to avoid Dr. Kate Mehaffey MSP 63925. I have never been spoken to, demeaned, and treated more poorly by a “medical professional.” I attended 3 appointments in total at Grow Health. It was not until the last appointment that I actually met her. I had an 8:30AM appointment and I was about a minute or 2 late, and she started our conversation by stating she did not even have to see me. Fair enough, my fault, I took 2 different busses to get there and should have left earlier. I recently relocated to Victoria from Toronto. On my initial visit they sent a fax to my physicians in Toronto to transfer my medical records. I called and followed up with Grow Health to confirm receipt of my records. It was to my utter shock when Dr. Mehaffey informed me they did not receive them. Grow only accepts medical documents through their fax number (as many other medical centers for security purposes). However, their fax number is always busy! I have tried sending them a fax at least 3 different times and my fax was always declined as their line was busy. Is it that hard to get a few more fax numbers? I was explained to Dr. Mehaffey about a mental health issue I experienced some years ago and asked her if she knew what that was, to which she replied “of course I’m a physician”. After that she completely changed. From the bottom of my heart I did not mean to be condescending or rude. She then very rudely and aggressively demanded I get up on the table and that was the end of our appointment – she’s had enough of me while I did not even get to ask any of the questions I had. I apologized profusely and asked what it is I did or said wrong to offend her. All in all, it was such a traumatic experience for me because I could not imagine how she might treat me when I’m in labor. I think Grow Health takes on so many patients that the level of care each patient receives is negligible. I have spoken to some other women since then and heard that many of them initially started with a doctor from Grow Health but eventually found someone that was better suited for them. I will also be filing a complaint with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia as I think it is extremely unfair to be treated in this matter by a medical professional.
My wife is a patient here and within the last 9 months has had 4 seperate issues with not only her family doctor but the staff. My wife is currently on an opiate prescription and has been denied renewal from an associate doctor for no known reason, has had her prescription suddenly cut in half as an accident, and finally on two seperate occasions her doctor has failed to send off her prescription to the pharmacy in a timely manner so my wife has had to either reduce her medication to make it last or outright miss medication. The ineptitude of the staff here is remarkable, they may say they care about their patients but their actions show otherwise. Finally they have an automated system for appointments so even in these situations my wife was not able to communicate with anyone for weeks as even the emergency number is a call back with several days of wait time. Completely unprofessional.
We adore Dr. Manthorne!! She’s the most amazing doctor who truly cares and listens to our concerns every time we see her. I’ve never met a doctor that goes over and above to find answers and get help for our little girl.
Amazing care from all doctors and support staff , felt so lucky to be a maternity patient at Grow Health. Highly recommend
Dr Reimer is the best .
The Drs are good but the staff are really bad. The assistant (her name is Sandy) is not allowing any calls to the Drs and answering on their behalf. Dr Maria kang pediatrician. Invoiced us with 1600 dollar for consultation (twins) and when I asked for a report explaining the diagnostics, procedures and treatment (for the insurance company) Sandy without consulting the Dr refused to share the report without extra charge. So we are paying for a consultation without an outcome for this consultation.
My husband and I are so grateful to be under the care of Dr. Smirnov , as well as the entire Grow health team. Regardless of of her busy patient caseload, Dr. Smirnov, always makes us feel like we are her number one priority, while there. She’s very thorough in her examinations and quick to follow up with us personally, on the phone or through an an appointment when she receives results on pending tests ,exams and/ or has recommendations for further treatment . Best of all, Dr. Smirnov seems to know the right questions to ask us when we can’t seem to articulate our symptoms or concerns clearly. At 62 and 63yrs old, we know we are truly two of the “lucky ones” to have found her! Claire and Tom Letang
Fantastic clinic! Consider yourself extremely fortunate if you are in the hands of a Doctor here as they are hard enough to find and good ones even harder!
So let's start out. I ended up with Dr. Shmirnov as my family Doc after my son was born. We met and she was pretty pleasant. She went over my prescriptions and raised an eyebrow at one. I informed her of a history of drug use and stated that I had found this as an off label due to it's low addiction rate and effectiveness at treating ADHD. I have to say for the first few visits I kind of felt uneasy around her as it felt like she was treating me like an addict. Truth is she was paying close attention to my consumption and watching me for signs of addiction. Now that she has seen I often go a long while past when I should need a refill she treats me with an entirely different attitude. She has made mention that I clearly pay attention to the messages my body sends me and listens very intently when I am speaking. She has always treated me with dignity (just very clinical at first). She has since warmed up to me and I am now very comfortable with her. I have come to understand, her initial attitude was entirely focused on my well being. Speaking to her now feels like visiting a good friend. I always feel cared for and very rarely is her attention divided. If something arises I am always left feeling that her priority is to get to me. Other than the initial visits where I felt a little unease I have overall enjoyed being a patient at Grow.
