This Doctor is included in the category of Medical clinic.
I had two very unpleasant experience with this clinic. The first time I arrived 10 minutes earlier than I was told to; and, I waited at least 40 minutes to be seen by a Doc. The second time I arrived 5 minutes later than I supposed to because I had to send my child to a piano class. The receptionist literally blamed me for being late and she sounds like I am the worst person in the world. I am also a health care professional and I have never seen a medical assistant can be as rude as her. Her performance in her work is very unprofessional.
I’ve made 3 virtual appointments so far. First one, the doctor was about 10 minutes late, which was fine. There was some technical issue but we were able to connect. However, I went to the pharmacy right next to the clinic where my prescription was supposed to be sent, and the pharmacist said nothing was sent there for me. The second appointment, I waited 30 minutes in the virtual waiting room, and I saw a call accept button, clicked it, and nothing happened. The third appointment, I waited half an hour in the virtual meeting room and nothing happened. Very disappointed that I’ve wasted all this time and not able to connect with a doctor and get a prescription here.
Third week trying to get in to see Dr. Aliya Rahemtulla - last week I was told to come back (by the receptionist) by 9am to see the Dr on a Wednesday (she starts at 10am), or to come around 7am and lineup outside on a Thursday (the clinic opens at 8am). It's painfully disappointing that this is what the healthcare system is like for people without GP's in Victoria. I don't blame the clinic - but it is very frustrating and not worth coming back week after week just to be denied care. I arrived today (Wednesday) at 8:45am and a sign was posted on the door saying the clinic is already full for the day. I had to book time off work, travel and spend money to get here, just to be turned away before I can even walk in the door. The reason why I want Dr. Aliya Rahemtulla is because I believe in her practice of functional medicine - after being misdiagnosed previously and mismedicated for chronic illness I want to see someone who has the scientific backing and understands that there can be a holistic approach to health care and that medication doesn't solve all problems; I would like professional health advice as to how to move forward with my life. Living in minimum wage, I can't afford the cost of seeing her at her private practice. Anyway, off to some other clinic to probably to be unheard and prescribed medication, that I don't want or necessarily need. I'll keep seeking answers to my health, but it feels like I am on my own. Disappointing; we need more GP's in Victoria B.C.
The receptionist was very pleasant and had me in for a walk in appointment within 20 minutes. The doctors were very friendly and although I initially nervous, they did an amazing job at making me feel comfortable.
Very great staff especially Doctor Aliya Rahemtulla
Clean and friendly, this walk-in medical clinic is in charming Cook Street Village. Open on Sundays, we arrived around 10:30 a.m. and were able to reserve our appointments for 1:30 p.m. The doctor on-call was Dr. Lauri Trites. She was was attentive, thorough, and warm. Highly recommended.
Tried to go in yesterday. I had never been to the clinic before. I went in to ask when I could see a doctor and the rude receptionist told me to sit down and wait. I sat for 25 mins while other people asked her questions and she answered them. Finally I got up and said, hey can i please just ask how I go about actually seeing a doctor? She replied... oh well I thought you were already here... ummmm HOW ABOUT YOU ASK THAT INSTEAD OF WASTING MY TIME. And then I was sent away because you literally have to line up outside in the cold in winter at 7:30am and hope you get a spot at some point in the day. for a person with a sinus and eye infection and does not drive, standing in -7 windchill outside at 7:30am is not an option. Screw this clinic, I'm never going back.
The physicians and staff that I have had the good fortune to deal with...Dr. Felix is particularly outstanding, and with the excellent support of Maddison and AJ, my experience has been very positive with this team. They have all gone the extra mile during this most difficult time in our lives to continue on going care, for which I am very grateful.
Reception is like that SNL sketch with David Spade. Incredibly rude. Soviet style healthcare like in any other retail clinic otherwise. There are some good docs here but Rhonda Hauser may be the worst GP I have yet encountered. Very rude and rushed exam, misdiagnosed and misprescribed resulting in a visit to emergency. Multiple errors caught by pharmacist. Lacks compassion. She should not be practicing.
Partner and I waited over 30 minutes for a scheduled appointment. Not to mention having to deal with a rude receptionist. Disappointing
Great. I don't know if the same receptionist that a lot of these other reviews are about is still there or not, but the one today and the doctor were both great. Keep in mind this place is no longer a walk-in clinic and you need to make an appointment.
Almost never open
I just want to say how immensely grateful I am for this clinic. The girls (women) at the front end of things (special shout out to Maddison and Kristen) who so promptly help me in a time where I have needed more appointments than the usual. We are all dealing with extra with COVID but their jobs are so hinged on the stress of so many but they help by always going the extra mile! And to Nesha who I don't come into contact as often, but like Maddison and Kristen, you are gracious and helpful also. Thank you Dr. Symon for your unwavering support also. Thank you Cook Street Medical Clinic Janet Love
Reception is the rudest, most ignorant person. I have been a patient of Dr. Hauser's since 1999 or would never have anything to with this clinic. This witch refuses to carry out instruction from the Dr. or from VIHA for what reason? I missed my diagnostic appointment for breast cancer and when I called and told her I needed a new requisition sent but to make sure the correct address was on it, she said she was just going to resubmit what she had...what the hell??? When I question her, she hangs up on me and then takes the phone of the hook. Is this for real?!?!?! Where do I make a complaint!?? This is not the first time.
I find this clinic very proactive & busy but staff always are very friendly with smiles for all.
Not the best place for younger people with chronic health issues. Try getting attached with James Bay Urgent Care if you fall within the catchment. Doctors at CSV were nice enough but vague recommendations for physical therapies don't really help me, and that's pretty much where their care stops.
300 dollars to do driver medicals. Rude staff. Standard rate is 120.
The doctor here has always helped me out in a kind and courteous manner. The receptionist was very nice.
I know COVID has affected business but Cook St Medical is probably the worst experiences I have had at a clinic. The receptionist hates her job. The opening times vary and the website opening hours are wrong. If you manage to get past the apathetic front end the doctors can be detailed and professional in their assessment.
Everytime I've tried to go to this walkin clinic they aren't accepting anymore patients for the day. With more than 3 hours left...
i keep trying to call and they keep hanging up on me
They put me on hold for 10 mins and just hung up . Receptionist shouldn't have their job. Doctors are fine
No problem. It's a walk in. All the people complaining about the receptionist being rude should do her job for a day. I wonder how high they'd score? She's not rude, she's busy.
I went to this clinic today to speak to the walk in doctor because I need antibiotics for an infected dental extraction. The doctor was extremely rude, disrespectful and condescending and did not prescribe me the medicine I needed, instead prescribed me a mouthwash that I can buy over the counter at the dentist. Extremely unprofessional rude service at this clinic and I will be telling everyone I know to avoid this place!
I have been going here for a number of years. They have always been very accommodating !!!! I have dealt with the receptionist and i think the complainers are the issue !!! Dr. Murray brown is a fabulous doctor with a outstanding personality . Very caring and understands the value of a doctor patent relationship. I strongly recommend her to all that are serious about there well being.
Filthy everywhere! Blood splatter on walls, bed, cupboards, chair and on all the equipment. Nice, helpful Dr but will not be returning
I just love the people at this clinic. Everyone I've ever talked to is so kind and reassuring. They must see a billion people a day but they always make me feel like they do care. Kinda a bummer about the bad reviews here. I guess the people who are happy are less inclined to write good reviews than the few people who are cranky. But truly, I'm so glad this clinic is in my area and feel so reassured that there's people who I can trust with my health.
I moved here last year from Hawaii during the the shutdown, and as a person with a disability was shocked and scared that it is impossible to find a family doctor here. When I contacted the girls, ( Maddison and AJ ) they were already dealing with their own completely new work/life situation in addition to the intensity of patients who weren't alway that nice, they took the time to listen to my situation, they were very empathetic and they got me in to see a doctor. I had a very negative experience with a new doctor and they could tell as I was very upset. They didn't let me leave until they told me about their regular doctors and gave me an option of 2 that they really recommended and made me another appointment which wasn't easy during the beginning of the pandemic. They are both so kind, and even though they are busier than when the clinic was open, when I called upset, or not knowing what to do, they took the time to listen to me and made me feel a safer moving somewhere in a pandemic not knowing anybody. I am so grateful for the times I have had a chance to chat with them, or how quickly they respond to an email to make an appointment or ask a question, even questions about where to go in Victoria! And knowing that I have a disability and there are no family doctors here, they have done a great job of making me feel like I do have a place that cares about me. MAHALO! ( thank you )
I have been to the clinic may times, very professional and courteous. Like all offices you have to wait just goes with the territory, patience grasshopper!
We've been at the Cook Street Clinic for well over ten years now. They've seen us through good health and the the little ailments and injuries that come from being active and, as we've aged, they've seen us through the health challenges that come out of the blue and set us all back on our heels. They've seen us through. And they've done this with caring, seamless attention and action that gets us where we need to be, with whom we need to see, all without drama or fuss, and with finesse and skill. Much has changed in health since we first visited, and that's a good thing. And much has changed with the pandemic and that has, I believe, been as good and better. The personal touch is still there, but the greater use of email, the phone, and video has tapped into the additional skills they have, and that has heightened their attention to patients, the care they provide, and the speed with which they deliver it. We've overcome some major health challenges through their efforts, and while we're in great health, and take care, we've learned we're human; things happen, and you need care -- the best care. And in accepting that things happen, that good health can sometimes turn to poor health, we know we're always in the best hands with everyone at the Cook Street Clinic. They've seen us through, and will continue to do so.
Great experience today. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Was told what time to come back for my appointment and all happened on time. Receptionist was very cordial, doctor was attentive and unhurried.
Probably one of the quickest walk in clinic experiences I've ever had. The MOAs were great as well.
I’ve been using the services of Cook Street Medical Clinic since moving to Victoria several years ago. If you don’t get there by about 10:30-11am, you won’t get a spot that day. I turned up at 11am one day because they called about my test results I had been very anxious about and was turned away despite them asking me to come in at my earliest convenience because they were full. When I finally made it to see a doctor about my results, it was a doctor who was unfamiliar with me, and diagnosed me with a condition I was dreading. I had asked several questions upon this diagnosis, mostly about it affecting my fertility and ability to have children, and they told me I would be fine. Prescribed weight loss, something that is ridiculous for my build and next to impossible due to said condition. I find out through other means that I now have a 1 in 3 chance of miscarriage, if I conceive at all. It’s a common condition, so I was really upset that I was misinformed by a doctor. Dr. Hauser has been by far my favourite doctor to see. I’m not in extremely often but she remembers me, and takes the extra few minutes out of her busy day to see that I have my questions answered. If it were for doctors, I would have given four stars. The receptionists are rude. Plain and simple. They will be short with you no matter what time of day it is. With such a doctor shortage, its understandable how overloaded these walk ins can get, but the downright rudeness is uncalled for. People don’t go to the clinic with excellent health and lots of patience, and they deserve at least kindness when they come in.
Always great personal service. I always feel listened to and my physical and mental health needs are consistently met. Thank you so much for all you do.
doctor who ordered a blood test completely missed red flagged iron deficiency and I suffered for months. hair falls out, shortness of breath, bloody nose and fatigue +. the owner has posted back that nothing was missed and my tests were normal, then why did the doctor who ordered the tests order a urine sample to check on my kidneys and why when I went to give blood was I told I could not because of ferritin levels? why did I have to phone back and get a prescription for iron at 30 mgs? why was I so ill? now my biceps muscle has ruptured because of what low iron does to soft tissue and skin and hair.
Tried to go here dozens of times over the years, staff incredibly rude, often not open during posted hours and wait times are horrible. Don't expect to walk into this walk-in and receive treatment.
Very great staff especially Doctor Aliya Rahemtulla
Is this place ever open? every time a go by there it's closed, every time I phone there they're closed.
I just visited Cook Street Village Medical Clinic for my medical to transfer my Class 1 drivers license from Alberta having recently moved here. I was first in line at the door 45 min before opening and less than 15 min with my exam. I was a little surprised at the cost of $202 with tax but I also have minimum charges similar in rates for my professional services. It was worth it and am not complaining. Dr. Hauser was very professional, courteous and on time. I appreciated that and would recommend this clinic in spite of a couple of negative reviews. I selected this clinic based on reviews alone.
Astonishingly rude and unprofessional receptionist. She seemed to think that a customer asking polite questions is some kind of disrespectful imposition, and seemed to go out of her way to be unaccommodating and condescending in her responses. The doctors here must be amazing if people are willing to put up with her to see them. But I really don't and won't know, since I never got that far, and I certainly won't be returning. Strongly recommend you go to a different clinic.
I agree with all the negative comments. The daytime receptionist is literally the rudest person I have ever met. She looks like she hates life and I have no idea why she is in the healthcare business. After being told to come back hours later (which really wastes your whole day) the doctor barely came in the room all the way and asked me what was wrong. I needed a prescription refill and she disappeared and came back a minute later with my prescription- no questions, no conversation, nothing. That's the last time I'll go here. Rude, awful receptionist and rude, uncaring doctors. I'd give it zero stars if I could.
The doctor was friendly however unable or unwilling to complete a simple freeze and removal of a 'wart'. Instead, a referral to a plastic surgeon is supposedly warrented with a one year wait just for a consultation. This is nuts. There are no more good GP's, all doctors really 'do' these days is push medication and forward you to the specialists. Crazy.
Do not go there if you are not covered by MSP, it's very expensive and you won't get any refund when your MSP is back...
I have been coming to this clinic for years because I get great care from the Doctors and can get in on most days. I realize that I must come early to get my name on the list , as the day fills up quickly due to the popularity of the doctors and the care they provide. The receptionist is always kind and professional which would be difficult due to the busy office and the limited time in a day. :)
I took my five year old in for throat swab to rule out strep due to high fevers, blurry vision and difficulty swallowing. Dr. Melissa Duff refused to do a throat swab and lecture me:" Even you have strep, I am not prescribing antibiotics, blabla, it's too bad other doctors do, they don't work!" Thanks for nothing and MSP is going to be billed 600 dollar for your 6 minute of opinion. For your information, a calgary mother was just sent to court and held accountable because she refuse to treat her son( strep positive)with antibiotics, the poor 7 year old died within weeks, so I appreciate if you can spare me with your ' professional' knowledge. And here is my common sense: I have always been treated with antibiotics if I have strep, strep leads to many complications if untreated, they are also contagious (imagine all the children in daycare) so it is not socially responsible to leave strep untreated. We have been going to this location for over three years, the other doctors in this clinic are wonderful and have always treated us with care. We have always been tested before by other doctors in this location.
I've had consistently excellent experiences with this clinic. Responsive and professional - from booking an appointment through follow-ups. Tenacious pursuit of referrals by Maddison. Dr. McGinley listened carefully and was patient and thorough.
I've had an ok service there for years until a few months ago when x-rays (which I had to insist on getting) were clearly overlooked. I was rushed trough and not even examined, the doctor showed no interest or concern whatsoever. I never heard back so then assumed everything was normal. But it wasn't. I paid for a full work up recently and discovered some serious issues to my spine. I will be expecting to get some answers as why this happened. I wouldn't suggest going here for anything worse then a cold ...
Quick, efficient, accommodating! Excellent receptionist staff on shift during our visit. Medimap makes appointment times very easy
Our family Dr. retired and we were very fortunate to be accepted with this medical clinic. Every time I have called or emailed the facility I have had a friendly and professional response, the receptionists have always returned my requests well within a fair timeframe. Their tone, compassion and caring are very evident . When I do receive a message of when the Dr. will call my home, again , the call is well with in the time parameters sent by the receptionist, yes I have had to wait for the Dr. to call, the Dr. always apologizes as they are busy with others and we move on. (FYI, there is a Dr. making calls 7 days a week). I think that is more than fair considering the state of the world during this pandemic, I would highly recommend others to use this clinic. For all those out there with their trivial complaints against the DR. and staff, go find another Dr. office in this city, good luck with that... lol.
I have been visiting the clinic for 10 years each Doctor has been professional and helpful yes you have to be there by 6:30 am to get an appointment but it's worth the wait. The new office personal are wonderful and very helpful as well since there's no family doctors able to take me on I'm glad the city has this clinic. Depending on the day they even register you early so you don't have to stand around for 1.5 hours until 8am that way the doctor see's you right at the start.
We are so fortunate to have this clinic in VIctoria. Professional staff top to bottom. Dedicated, Caring Physicians who we can trust, and reception that goes the extra mile every day for patients. Yes, we may have to wait in line for this service, however these folks are treating our health with the highest regard. I am willing to do my part to receive top notch medical care. 5 stars in my book
They closed an hour before closing the time stated on their website. So when I got there the door was locked.
A refreshingly kind and helpful place
Dr Rahemtulla is exceptional. Very knowledgeable, efficient, and above all kind!
Horrible staff. Under staffed. Tell you there's room over the phone then when you get there they turn you away. Even when you really need to see a doctor. They don't care. Full of lazy, useless doctors that don't like to work, much.
The clinic is amazing. Particularly the front desk staff who are so organized and friendly even when the place is bursting with patients!
I've been going to this clinic for years as it's impossible to get a family doctor in Victoria. The doctors are all very nice and accommodating but the main receptionist is awful. It's one of those clinics where you go in and they tell you when to come back, so there's a good chance that if you go there at noon they will be full for the day. Fair enough BUT they really should keep some wiggle room for emergencies. It is a WALK IN CLINIC after all, right? ???? I went in today because my eye very suddenly swelled shut- it looked horrible. I wish I could post a pic- it was brutal! I said "I know it says you're full but this is kind of an emergency." The receptionist (long brown hair, never smiles) said rudely "well this isn't the emergency room" and turned me away. I was so shocked and already freaking out because I couldn't see and didn't know what was happening, so I didn't say anything and just left. So irresponsible for a medical clinic. I'm almost positive that if one of the doctors had seen it they would have taken me in but the receptionist was obviously super concerned with finishing for the day. I went to the Yates walk in clinic (who were also full) and they got me in right away and were super helpful. They said with things like eyes, they don't mess around. Nor should they! I told them what happened at the Cook St clinic and they were shocked. UPDATE: i emailed the main contact on the website to complain and never received a reply. I'm assuming the miserable cow receptionist is the one who checks the emails. I'm going to try going back on a Sunday when the witch isn't there because I like the doctors.
Ive had a great experience at Cook St medical, the receptionists are lovely and friendly, the doctors are helpful and knowledgable, and the communication and booking is fast and easy. Special thanks to AJ for going out of their way to assist me after hours.
I have been going to Cook St. Clinic since it opened and have nothing but good things to say about it. Dr Watt and Dr Felix have been the main Doctors I have seen and both have taken excellent care of me. I have never had a problem with the receptionists and have found them all to be very helpful.
Every interaction, from the Receptionists to Doctors available, has been positive, professional and prompt. THANK goodness this exists in Victoria!! Thank you for all your help!

Absolutely first rate! I had to book a pre exam on short notice and was able to get an appointment the very next day. I used the email address to book the appointment and the whole process was fast and efficient. The receptionists were friendly and helpful. I was one of the last patients and Dr. Stansfield had had a very long and busy day. Nevertheless he took his time and was pleasant. He was very thorough, asked a lot of questions and listened to what I said. It has been a long time since I felt such confidence after a medical exam!
Followed up with the receptionist M on a matter, and all was as promised and received a timely follow up email, all pro and well done. Much appreciated
I am absolutely disgusted in they way I was just treated. I just called to ask how busy the clinic was today and the lady on the phone said they were booked for the day. When I asked how that can be because they don't take appointments she said "I'm the doctor and I have to go" and slammed the phone down. I am beside myself right now. How a medical professional can treat some so poorly is beyond me. I don't know who she was but she has to be the most inconsiderate person to just treat someone so rudely. There are more professional ways to treat people when you are busy.
AJ provided a very high level of quality customer service - fast responses, prompt follow-up and with the support of AJ and Dr. Chkipov, I was able to get the care I needed. I would recommend this clinic to everyone!
I've been reading the reviews and encouraged by the medical director responding directly here as I am hoping to obtain an answer about the clinics service. I have decided to change my review. I am still waiting to hear from the doctor but I've recently found out that it is more the state of our medical system than the actual clinics fault in waiting so long. We should all be upset and complaining to our local politicians to make sure our doctors want to stay in Canada. As I understand the incentive is diminishing all the time for our doctors.
Lined up at 645 am and was 4th in line for a 730 am opening time. Was told the Dr doesn't arrive until later in the day and given the option of a time several hours later. It should be made clear they start booking appointments at 730 for a 930 start time. Have to work at 8:40 so couldn't get to see doctor today.
Went in to get a referral for a chronic problem back in June. I got in really quick and had a medical imaging appointment within the week, which was amazing. Unfortunately thats where any positives ended. The Clinic had sent a completely different patient file to the hospital and I was unable to get any imagining done. It took reminding them 3 times and over a month for them to send the correct patient information. Was not contacted at all about the results of the appointment and had to once again track them down in order to get a referral to a specialist. It has been another month and absolutely nothing from them. I have given up on trying to get anything fixed through this clinic and will be going else where for my current and any future problems. Could not recommend going to another clinic more.
After getting prescription for my heart medication here in 2020 (one script lasts almost a year), my pharmacy faxed a request for a refill. Being almost out, 8 days later I called to inquire, as nothing was happening, and the doctor who originally prescribed it does not do refills over the phone/fax. Which is fine, however, it would have been nice for me or the pharmacy to be notified that I have to come in, instead of no answer at all. There are no appointments available last minute and nothing that could be done. It was a stressful experience as I only had day a half worth of medication left, but I managed to get in touch with a different place and received excellent service.
Is it a grocery store or a Medical clinic? "We are out of tomatos... come back on Monday" I used to see Dr. Montemuro at this medical clinic and she was great and the receptionists were always pleasant, Now she is not there any more but I was in such a pain that I decided to go anyway. The receptionist that I have to dealt with was horrible. She told me that the doctor should leave in 1/2 hour and doesn't want to get more patients. But there was only one person waiting and still 30 minutes left... even if there are other 2 patients inside you have enough time to visit a person in pain. I told her that I'm very in pain but she replied that I can come back on Monday. Do these doctors still swear to Hippocratic Oath? " I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being..." And please get a more competent receptionist.
Reached out at 8am by email, got a 1 hour window to receive a call later that day. Doctor was polite, helpful, and supplied me with what I needed digitally(!). Honestly, I wish all walk-in clinics could operate like this one, highly recommended.
I have found Dr. Rhemtulla and Dr.Hauser to be exceptional doctors that I feel lucky to see. After my family doctor, who has been my doctor my entire life, didn't know who I was and told me to "get a grip", I go cook street for my medical needs. They have been kind, thorough and very educational. Dr. Hauser has made me feel heard and cared about at a time I really needed it, and Dr.Rhemtulla provided me the most thurough and detailed health plan I have had, she even drew picture on the bed paper to help me better understand what was going on in my body, and gave me a very thurough treatment plan. I think the receptionist get's stressed out sometime as all humans do, but don't hold that against the doctors, they are amazing!
Maddison has the rare ability to blend a professional manner with a personal touch. I appreciate the quality of care and support provided by this clinic. Dr. Symon is responsive to my concerns, reliable with my requests, and takes time to educate me about their medical protocol. During a period of challenge, thank you for your constancy and positivity!
The receptionist is currently on a personal phone call to set up a savings account while someone is waiting to speak with her... super unprofessional! I would have gave zero stars if that was an option.
I wonder if they have hired a new receptionist since these negative reviews were posted, because my experience today was great. Took my 1.5 year old in due to some wheezing and was able to get her in end of day after checking in on Medimaps. The receptionist was very friendly and engaged with my daughter during our brief wait. Doctor quickly assessed what was wrong, sent us next door for the prescription, and had us back to use the medicine before they closed for the day. Quick, friendly, knowledgeable, and my daughter is doing much better already.
