Received couple therapy in 2016 (sorry for late review!) Barely any progress due to incompatible style with my character. She just listened for 55 minutes (1 hour session) without much interjection then gave a “summary” at end of session and sometimes “homework”. Unfortunately this did not help us progress much or improve over quite a long period... ???? We paid ALOT of money and only after changing therapist did we realize how much time/money was truly wasted. (She would also increase her price regularly which was even more frustrating) After revising notes she took over time, I saw how little had changed and it was infuriating to think I reached out to a professional and just felt ripped off…etc Edit for response: No thanks! I had sought out the help of two other psychologists after years of dealing with unimaginable tragedy both in the Canadian Armed Forces as a peacekeeper and a career of serving in the capacity of paramedic which spanned over 30 years. I was on the precipice of taking my own life because of despair due to PTSD, severe depression and the seemingly inability to enlist the help I required.> Dre. Dr. Oala was recommended to my wife and I by her colleague and it was the best thing we ever did for our couple! She helped us through a very difficult period in our relationship that had been there for a long time. We’ve been married for 18 years and since this wasn’t our first go at couples therapy, I was really unsure about getting anything new out of it this time. Initially I went along for my wife, and she knows it, but as the sessions went by I found myself opening up to Dr. Oala. She is easy to talk to and very up to date on the research in her field, this is very important for me. It always felt safe to express myself even when our conflict in the session was intense. She is gentle, patient, and great at helping me make links to what is happening in my life so that I can better handle my issues. I’m not one to write reviews, but I happened along these ones and felt compelled to add my 2 cents. I’ve seen a few therapists over the years, but Dr. Oala is the one I’ve stuck with. She has expertise in a variety of approaches and incorporates them according to my needs. I am more confident in her knowledge and expertise than I have been with others who just use CBT, for instance. She is empathetic and patient, and I feel like she genuinely wants to help me over the hurdles I would like to jump. Therapy can be very difficult and scary, especially if, like me, you don’t trust people. I feel confident saying that with Monica you can know you are in good hands.
