I've been treated by Dr. Book since 2013. I've found him to be a compassionate, supportive, and motivating psychiatrist. It's important to remember, as a patient, taking the medication is only part of the battle; there must be positive action on my part. Walking is a simple that helps to boost your mood.

I was pretty hesitant in seeing this doc after all the poor reviews. My experience was not awful but I'm not sure why he told me to go buy a book and read it. It was a particular book about forgiveness. By forgiving what others have done to us helps us move forward. !?!?!. I'm confused. I did not go back because I felt very uncomfortable as a woman talking to a man who was smiling and trying to be funny about the time he met the author of this book he was promoting. Just not the tpye of doc I want to talk too.

I would not even give this man one star if it was within realm of possibility. I have been seeing this, "Psychiatrist" for three years and counting. Heavily, due to the lack of good and reliable mental health care provided near and in Brantford, Ontario. Ever since meeting the long-lived Dr. Book, he has never expressed any amount of empathy towards me. He always has shoved aside my comments that I specifically prepared for our appointments, with a stern expression, a blunt remark and unwelcome conversation about his personal interests. Always being in the dark about where the source of pain came from in my life, never concerned the Doctor. Over three appointments, of struggling with my mental health to attend our infrequently scheduled meetings, I started opening up to him that I was looking into C-PTSD as a possible clarification. I overly expressed wanting his advice, and assistance in finding my proper diagnoses in order to discover what I have been dealing with, mentally, as long as I can remember. Doctor Book simply in the end replied, "Your diagnoses doesn't really matter." After having this man completely disregard my well-being and simply shrug off or entertain that I could possibly have C-PTSD... I felt as if my life was hopeless and the progress that I've made overtime meant nothing. I was forced to take everything into my own hands without the form of support. I researched online and learnt about every diagnoses that was given to me over the 8 years of seeking information about my mental heath. Overall, I was the one who put in 100% of the work to find my proper and true diagnoses of C-PTSD. In the hands of this psychiatrist, I have been continuously disrespected as a person and patient, because of his impaired communication process. I know now that, yes, having perception on my disorder is very important despite what this man wants to believe. Becoming self aware of my C-PTSD is a good thing in order for myself as a person to heal and receive appropriate treatment. The lack of care provided by Doctor Book negatively effected me throughout this process, because all he has done to "help" , was pushing pills towards me without repercussion. Honestly, he has stunted the development I deserved to receive from a health care professional over these three years of being under his care. In the end, I was able to have the strength to go against this doctor's frequent discouragement, and figure out the healing process on my own. Please do not waste your time with this man, you are better off without a psychiatrist for the time being instead of undergoing his treatment out of desperation of finding the real help you deserve and need.

I've been seeing Dr. Book approximately 8 years, since I ended up in the hospital with depression. He was very good with me then and still is. Albeit I did have to suggest some of my own treatment he went along with my ideas. I am over the depression, still see him, still need meds. But much better.

Hard to make appointments because they only answer the phone 3 hours a day, but he never rushes the appointment and tries to chat and make you feel comfortable while you are there.

over 4 of my family members have gone to this "psychiatrist". My one family member is severely suicidal and depressed, when they were on the phone with the receptionist she was rude, impolite, miserable and outright disrespectful. There are other things that have happened with this doctor and receptionist aswell but i am not going to write it all the example i used is just the most recent one. I think that is completely unacceptable especially in the space of work that this Doctor and receptionist are in. Dealing with people who are already on the edge means you must act a certain way. The people at this office are just not that. I would not recommend ANYONE in the slightest to go here and get any type of serious help. There are much better doctors around the brantford area and in hamilton that you can find if you really look.
