REVIEWS OF Brantford General Hospital IN Brantford

I give the ER a one star- very long wait times and the staff are not very attentive. I once waited 13 hours to get drugs for a simple UTI on a Saturday night because I had no where else to go. The same night there was a man who was in pain that fell onto the floor and it took the nurses- I kid you not- 5 minutes to even notice. The hospital, minus the ER is okay. The nurses are quite nice.

Andrew McKerracher

We had a terrible experience while there for the birth of my son, if I'm dying drive me to Hamilton.

Jay Lloyd

I'd consider last nights experience to be 3.5. My brother was taken in for excessive vomiting and stated he was in a lot of pain. Though at times not very cooperative and making life a little difficult for the nurses most were patient and did their duty, and I'm extremely greatful to them. When I arrived at the hospital myself and found my brother in the back, I turned down the hallway to see a nurse smacking my brother on his head with her pen. I'm not sure I find that okay considering he was a bit delirious given his state. Needless to say she stopped doing it when I got there... I'm unsure the name of the lady and I wish I got her name to let BGH know of this action, thank you for taking care of my brother anyhow.

The line up was long but I know its not the staff fault because of all the cut backs. Staff is very helpful and understanding.

Legendary healthcare. Typical narcissistic emerg nurses. Legends in their own minds.

Mike Nowacki

The ER department at this hospital is the absolute worst. My wife was brought here by ambulance on October 26th, 2018. Even though the fire department, ambulance and 911 dispatcher were positively amazing in every single way, we will never again call 911 in the Brantford area for risk of being taken to this pathetic excuse of a hospital. Instead, we will take our chances and drive ourselves to another hospital in Hamilton. If someone from the ER department wishes to turn this negative experience into a learning opportunity please contact me. The people of Brantford deserve much better than this.

I was so nervous to do a bone scan today but the staff (esp michelle and the doctor) were outstanding. Made me so comfortable and calmed my nerves. Thank you !

Erika Hill

I'd rather die than be looked after in Brantford ... if u can go anywhere other than the bgh

This hospital is well known to giving preferential treatment to people of European ancestry. Ask anyone on Six Nay or any South Asian person in town and you’ll quickly learn about the horror stories. They have gotten better over the years, but some of the staff still have that lingering difference in how they treat people. You go to a hospital usually at your lowest, and they make you feel worse. I strongly suggest all staff should be given anti bias training.

Enrique Gómez Lozoya

(Translated) The Brantford hospital, with all the services. Well located. (Original) El hospital de Brantford, con todos los servicios. Bien ubicado.

Front desk very rude . Told us the hospital was for emergencies and we should have went to family doctor , meanwhile we went for an emergency. Terrible service ! Should know better than to welcome suffering people with this attitude.

jay snook

Just drive to Paris or Hamilton..Brutal hospital, for so many reasons I will not get into.

Carol Hartmann

The wait time long but the hospital staff are incredibly friendly and thorough.

I had a minor surgery at BGH and found the volunteers so very helpful and the nurses were tops ... I had a very pleasant experience and found BGH to be very professional and very caring. The food was even good ... and I am very fussy ... never was in a hospital before where the food was wonderful. I found BGH to be very clean and tidy and once again the nurses were so very excellent. I give this hospital the highest rating and was the BEST hospital I was ever in and I am from Toronto .... been in St. Joseph's, Humber Memorial Hospital, St. Michaels, and also Sunnybrook Hospital (all in Toronto) and I found BGH to be better than all of the hospitals mentioned ... it is the attitude of the nurses ... so caring and so compassionate. Really enjoyed my stay in BGH big time !!

victor totten

one of the most horrible hospitals in canada right there

DLA Webb

This is the Worse hospital next to a third world country hospital going, my father went here complain of chest pain , they sent him home , he died the very next day!!! You can look up T. Webb. My mother didn't sue the hospital because his mother was working there how embarassing is that? Also when I was in the hospital I saw a patient best another and the nurses just stood there and did Nothing !! Shame on you! The dad story was 30 sum years ago but I'm sure there are Current stories like mine, if someone is complaing of chest pains Take them seriously, I have no dad thanks to you!!

I had surgery on my broken arm in May. It was a complicated fracture and I was quite concerned. Surgery went well. I received excellent care from Dr. Niroopan and his team. It's been a trying time however I couldn't ask for better treatment than I've received from Brantford General Hospital.

I visited the imaging department for a CT scan. The technician who performed the scan was named Reid (apologies if I haven't spelled that right). He was very personable and professional, and had a calming presence. I'd had minor anxiety as this was my first procedure of the sort, and I wasn't sure what to expect. Reid walked me through the process, and was quick and efficient. He explained afterward that I could expect follow-up from my doctors on the results of the imaging, and I quite enjoyed our interaction. It's very reassuring to know that despite all that medical professionals cope with in the workplace, there are still those who choose to provide care in a respectful, courteous, and compassionate manner. Thank you!

Collapsed on see and treat floor- nurse ignored me. Once my husband showed up and found me on said floor she mocked to my husband and then to myself. Reported it to the doctor and low and behold he knew EXACTY which nurse it was. Apparently repetitive behaviour seems to slip by. This treatment has made me scared to go the the hospital to just be mocked and left on the floor again. I had collapsed shortly after a low blood sugar and could have died on your floor. Over 20 minutes your staff walked by me and left me there. If my husband hadn’t show up they wouldn’t have bothered to even check on me. A hospital is supposed to be where you’re safest. Now for my own safety I can’t go by myself for fear of that safety. Don’t bother telling me to “report” the incident. I did. And apparently have not been the only one. Doesn’t seem to matter to your hospital in the slightest.

Crataegus crusgalli

Some good experiences at BGH, some nightmares. As in all Ontario ER departments, be prepared to wait a VERY long time.

Blued Heart Studio

Was there 4 hours without seeing anyone. I walked out because at that point it was doing more damage. Hospitals are meant to help; this one seems to be doing the opposite.

It seems to me that your hospital visit can be a very good experience, or a very bad experience depending on when you go and what staff is on your floor. Some staff seems to be very caring in their positions while others slack off and are in the halls complaining about their jobs, or how much money they make. Some of the hospital staff is caring about your health while other staff is more concerned with getting you out as soon as possible. If you have tons of tests why send you home if you're just going to come back the next day, and spend the whole day getting tests done. Communication is a huge problem there, making for a confused staff that have no clue (not their fault but could be improved upon). In rooms where they are under quarantine depending on who comes some abide by it other staff don't care. Some nurses act like wardens, pacing the halls with nothing better to do only to yell at you when your in the process of leaving the room and taking your gown off.. not even kidding.. meanwhile the room across from us also in quarantine had no gowns on, and they didn't yell at them.. Was sent home once at lunch with the patient I was with had no way to get into the house, told them this, got the response we need the bed we'll call you a cab, sent home week later same patient back in Hospital in critical.. way worse then the week before, thankfully the patient recovered. More security cameras since theft of personal items seems to be a major issue at this Hospital (have a sheet of personal belongings list) that sheet will go wherever the patient goes if something on the sheet ain't checked off as with person obviously somebody needs to get fired, why is this not a thing.. If you can't physically move the items yourself, why should you be solely the one responsible for items lost because whoever moved you didn't do their job. These lost items were never brought to the lost and found so somebody obviously is going around stealing them, whether it's staff or patient somebody is stealing in your hospital and getting away with it.. this needs to stop.

I needed emergency care for renal failure. The staff and care were excellent. The testing and treatment were done under the supervision of the internist and kidney specialists which got to the root cause which is pretty ideal. The front line nurses and aides performed professionally. There was a lot of work done on my meds to alleviate the problem. I highly recommend this hospital.

ER nurses and doctors are probably the best in the region, I'm 23, I got a lot of health issues and visit regularly and am usually treated with respect and urgency. Compared to other hospitals in the area like St Mary's and Cambridge memorial this is by far an improvement.

Tom Neeb

I have never been in hospital for myself before. Just spent three weeks at the General starting in emergency and then being transferred to the fifth floor. Absolutely everyone who looked after me was wonderful, caring and patient and astonishingly professional. I cant thank them enough. Covid definitely adds an additional challenge to the nursing responsibilities as do difficult patients, and everyone dealt with these challenges so gracefully! Thank you All!

Robert Warren

For the most part the nurses are overworked but kind. The doctors are overwhelmed with some nights the emergency ward filled with patients and only 1 doctor. A Family member went in Friday evening and had to wait in the hall of the emergency ward until late Sunday night just to get a bed while he was in pain. This is unacceptable.

Joseph NoFood

Great service, and I was born here so 10/10.

Bailey Tait

I understand that the long wait times are not solely the ER's fault but I waited 4 hours (and there were people with me who had been there for 5+). I waited just to be told that there was no radiologist to look at my xrays and that my foot was "probably not" broken... But to call my family doctor on Monday to check. If my foot was broken, the assistant physician said she would be in the ER Monday and would "try to get me in quicker." I had asked for crutches and waited another half an hour to be told that no one could find keys to the storage area where they were kept so they were unsure how much longer it would take.

Donald Stelling

Stepfather passed away here hard to say but i feel they could have made some better choices. Ty

Wait times are a bit longer. Staff are pleasant and helpful

Cota Facilities

Nurses/staff are exceptional. The care our mother is receiving is wonderful.

Ali Baba

Do not go here, drive to Hamilton. The wait is horrendous.

Over the past year I have been with my elderly mother several times in emergency. Each time she was treated with the utmost respect and care. I have nothing but high praise for all the staff - doctors, nurses, PSWs, and ambulance personal. Thank you so much!

Daniel Arevalo

The ER staff is incredible. Everybody was very kind, helpful, knew exactly what they were doing and looked like that actually really liked their job. Honestly i am beyond impressed on how well my day went while i was there. I walked out of the hospital feeling better about myself :). I wish the ER staff all the best! and Thank you!

Nicole D

This hospital is so understaffed. At no fault of the nurses and doctors, as most of them were very courteous considering the circumstances. We waited over 6 hours after an xray. At about 2am when we asked for an update, they said they didn't have anyone in until 8am who could review the xray. If someone had just told us this after we got the xray, we could have just gone home and come back the next morning (which we ended up doing 6 hours later). While waiting there were people coming in on ambulances who were just left in the hallway. Again, no fault of the staff because I know the hospital is lacking rooms. I did have a CT scan at this hospital, and that we a good experience. The staff were very nice and it was a quick process. I just wouldn't recommend going to the ER if you have the option of driving a bit farther to one of the bigger hospitals out of town.

Kayla Green

My elderly grandmother was taken to this hospital VIA 911, I meet her inside in emergancy. She is scared and suffering from Alzheimer's. The hospital staff felt it was fine to leave her just inside the doors in the hallway ( which was cold) from 9:30ish when we arrived until 4am when we left. We asked if they could even move her just around the corner where the lights where off they declined. My 86 year old grandma was in pain and could not walk. 3 nurses sat at their station having conversations of the weekend ( I could hear it all as I was maybe 4 feet away), while they enjoyed their conversation I was toileting my grandmother after asking several times for help with nothing but eye rolling.. I had to request she get something to help with her pain as they offered nothing not even water... Here is to say I will not be donating any money this year to Brantford hospital if they are only paying for such inconsiderate and rude staff... However I will mention one staff member ( she was making rounds cleaning and helping) she was very kind and all employees should look to her on how to deal with people !

Tyler House

If they like you you'll get through fine. If not good luck. I had to click at least one star.

Steve Wade

Worst emergency ever. Was rushed to the hospital with a minor heart attack and was told to wait.. Going on 2 hours now.

Dale Galloway Burridge

The people here know how to help.

Raquel Banis

Every nurse I've had on the Peds floor has been an absolute angel. Being here is incredibly hard and they make everything easier. Thank you so much for all your hard work and care ♥️

jr longley

My sister passed away in this hospital a week or so ago. My brother-in-law was given the "belongings" of another person, not my sisters. The hospital, after many follow up telephone calls has not located my sister's belongings. They advise there is nothing more that can be done. Brantford Police have been contacted. A formal complaint will be lodged against this hospital. Imagine losing a loved one, non-Covid, in this environment. The hospital administrator should be ASHAMED. I believe her belongings to be stolen. Every effort will be taken to shame this hospital in social media platforms.

Alexei Reid

i've gone to the ER twice now because theres something wrong with my stomach and it might be cancer and they made me wait for hours and a nurse told me that i "look healthy" so they're not going to do any tests or anything. and she said that if i'm walking and i can talk then i am fine. so basically i have to wait til i'm going to die and then MAYBE they'll do something. worst hospital ive ever been to.

Deshi Food Guy

My dad was intubated on ventilation here for over a month. He was released from disgusting Brampton civic hospital saying nothing was wrong with him, but he was actually positive for covid had a stroke and needed ventilator which he was on for over a month. They are all amazing and very very kind hearted here at this hospital. ICU nurses are true super heroes, Justina, and I cannot remember all of their names but without them my dad wouldn’t be alive. Amazing amazing and thank you all. True heroes of our country, I can’t type everything here but we are forever grateful for you guys! God bless and may you all have an amazing prosperous life!

Lise Bennett

Screwed up every test for the first 3 months of My husbands treatment. Until I started advocating and doublee checking their work.

Bernice Emery

Just completed a hip replacement surgery at Brantford General. Absolutely everyone, from the housekeeping staff, kitchen, nursing staff, physio, doctors..... absolutely EVERYONE have been outstanding! They are helpful, courteous, considerate and uplifting, and they take care of your every need. Several times the nurse brought me a heated blanket without me even asking. I love this place!

Rich Humber

I brought my 82yr old father to emergency on Sunday morning. I was overwhelmed with how kind and helpful everyone was. The staff went out of their way to keep us in the loop and make sure my father was as comfortable as possible. These people are amazing! Thank you!!

Carlos Juarez

Even when the place is empty waiting times are ridiculous

Scott

Good professional care. Very thorough.

Nurses seem like crabs and could careless for patients wellbeing. Good luck to the sick that come here. Better care in a Mexican hospital then here.

Im going to put this ion the best way possible...its like living in a city with no Hospital. Brant Gen is pure garbage. My personal experience is that i needed stitches on my pinky, and instead the doctor stitched above it. As well as not putting the stitches in right, as well as making it so now i have no use in my pinky. Otherwise, if you have allergies, DO NOT GO HERE! Brant Gen has made it very clear that they do not care if you have allergies whatsoever. I have 3 friends who have each lost loved ones due to the fact that Brant Gen purposely gave them the wrong meds. The nurses in Brant Gen are taking the meds as well, I have heard on a number of occasions nurses discussing 'pills they've swiped'. Brant Gen is not a hospital. Brantford does not have a hospital, the closest place to go is Hamilton. Medical attention is very hard to seek here. Keep this in mind if you are a person in constant need of medical attention.

Jay Poel (Flux101)

I've been to ER times for myself and my family members. We've always been treated promptly and professionally. Last visit was for a kidney stone. I checked in at 5:30 PM, had an IV with pain meds by 6:00 . Had a CAT scan just before 8:00 and checked out at 9:15 PM. Turns out I passed it when I have a urine sample. Couldn't ask for better service.

Sarah Me

I would give a 0 star if possible. Had THE WORST experience on the pediatric floor. Most of the nurses on the floor should not work with babies or parents of new babies. Disrespectful, don't even obey doctors orders, they had 0 care. If I typed the hell they put my husband, myself and my 27week preemie through people would be afraid to go there. As they should be! Im just so happy we spent the majority of our hospital stay at McMaster in Hamilton. We now drive to Hamilton whenever we need a doctor. Never going there again.

Bo T

Great hospital. Fast and friendly.

David F. Brownell

i went in with serious depression/suicidal thoughts. admitted at 3pm, had to leave due to HUNGER at 9pm. Was NOT called to the second waiting room, when i told the triage nurse i was leaving she blamed me, said "they probably called your name but you didnt hear it", which is b/s since i was sitting out front of triage for 6 HOURS! Obviously this hospital doesn't take mental issues seriously, for if they did i wouldn't have had to leave, go back home, a research other methods/clinics that do take mental health seriously. Also seen a sign up right at triag saying that if you havev a problem with your nose, mouth, or throat that they can't help u there... I thought Simcoe's hospital was bad, this place is the same but with just more crabby nurses and too many patients go somewhere else

rick johnson

I was in for day surgery May 24 2019 and service was absolutely top notch!

JG Wentworth

Turn your clocks back to 1942. Unvaccinated equals fired! Sicking to see what really is going on.

Being accident prone my whole life its kind of a home away from home and im positive id be dead a few times over if they didnt cure me and zap me back to life. You guys are awesome keep.up the goid work and ignore the whiny comments. BGH = im alive

Cecilia Long (Sgt. Pepper)

This is the worst hospital. Avoid at all cost. 5 hours, no doctor. The nurses sit and talk a lot about personal stuff. I have not been offered a blanket once and I feel rude interrupting thier conversation. Also after not being able to eat for 3 days, I don't want to hear about your Montana's and how good it is. Offer me damn blanket and get the damn doctor.

Jennifer Lynn

Paul Fraser

Its sad. Really sad. The level of quality, service and support here is truly abysmal. A testament to the administrative failures of this hospital and the governments failure to health care. Nothing else to say here.

Samantha Monroe

I only gave one star because it doesn't give me the option to go any lower . This hospital is an absolute joke .

Kenneth Factor

If I could give this hospital 0 stars I would. Worst experience ever. By far the rudest staff and nurses I have met. We came to this hospital to visit my sister and her new baby where we were so rudely yelled by multiple staff members on the 3rd floor. To begin we picked up the phone and told the nurse which baby we were here to see, she opened the doors and let us in. We then went to the desk inside the NICU to find out which room she was in. It was here that we were rudely yelled at by nurse in the neonatal unit and told to leave because my sister was downstairs getting food when we arrived because this nurse clearly lacked the basic communication skills to simply say im sorry but could you wait outside the doors until the baby’s mother returned. Instead she shouted 3 times at us to just leave. Immediately following this encounter we left the NICU and pushed the buttons to get back on the elevators where we called my sister to see where she was, it was here we were yelled at by another ignorant woman with short hair working at the desk infront of the elevators on the 3rd floor August 21 at noon because “this is a confidential area and we are not aloud to wait there” WE WERE WAITING FOR THE ELEVATOR TO COME UP!! Don’t put your desk infront of the elevator if people aren’t aloud to wait there ! Anyways We finally found my sister and came back to the room to visit the baby. As we were leaving to go home the same rude woman working at the desk watched us push the buttons for the elevators so we could leave where once again she yelled at us continuously that we could not stand around there and wait. Like we had any other options. All I have to say is Brantford Hospital you should look at the reviews on this page, we will never be back and your staff members working on the 3rd floor today need to learn how to speak to people and take a course in basic manners because I have never met such a rude group of women in my entire life.

Tamra H

If i could give you guys less than a star i would what a joke this place we call health care is ESPECIALLY YOUR EMERG. On several occasions i have walked twice for my kids and once for myself and now tonight for my mom who has a possible blood clot and came in with a blood pressure of 151 over 115 and could barley breathe and 2 hours past the longest wait time was acceptable as people who were not an emergency were taken over to see and treat and left by 11 and my mom got left over in emerge just to get no where WHAT A JOKE . shame OUR HEALTH SYSTEM NEED TO CHANGE !!!!!!!!????

CanadaBud_

Dont even waste your time with BGH, In personal experiences waits average about 6hrs (Includes Triage and See And Treat) and once someone finally does come to see you the care is ok at best, Would recommend just going to a different hospital like, Joseph Brant in Hamilton, West Haldimand in Hagersville or Cambridge Memorial

Makayla Mc Intosh

Honestly went in this past Friday 1am, the triage nurse was very slow for only three people in there. However thankfully I was sent up to L&D. These reviews are soo funny. If you can wait 6/7/8+ hours to be seen then clearly it isn’t an emergency. Stop backing up the hospital and go see your regular doctor. The Triage Nurse does not just put you in queue the way you come in the door, everyone is seen according to the need of their issue, and if it gets worse they have it posted to let the triage nurse know.

Ginny N

Good this time

I had nothing but a wonderful experience at the Brantford hospital when I was there for day surgery. Every nurse and doctor that took care of me were kind, compassionate and professional. I especially commend my surgeon, Dr. Ololabi and nurses Stephanie, Manquela, and Alex. A special thank you to Alex - he was so kind and gentle with me. An overall great experience.

Awful experience here, felt as if everyone was out of place. No real process intaking patients. Never again

Mike

My experiences at the BGH have been very positive, everyone is courteous and friendly. The hospital is very clean. A very special shout-out and thank you to the ladies in the MRI suite. I have had to undergo several MRI's recently and the staff here are wonderful, kind and patient which has made the experience so much better. Thank you to all the hard working health care heros at the BGH.

Went in last night with my teenage daughter who had broken out in an inexplicable rash. Danielle, the Physician's Assistant who treated her was sincere and genuine. Absolutely wonderful! The nurses were also very helpful. Unfortunately, I didn't catch any of their names otherwise I would acknowledge them now. Just grateful for the care my daughter received. Thank you.

Brian Trota

My kids have been to Brantford General over the last 2 years for several emergency visits. Nurses and doctors have always been caring, attentive and helpful!

Tracy McKenzie

My grandmother has spent time earlier this year at BGH with pneumonia and is presently hospitalized for a stroke. Our experience has been very positive in the stroke ward - all the staff here have taken such great care with her. Compassionate, thorough and not rushed. Coming into the hospital through ER can be frustrating but the very nature of emergency medicine does not allow it to move as quickly as we would all like, in what we feel to be an emergency situation for ourselves or our loved ones. It seems as if ALL of the staff here are as helpful as they are able to be, working with resource restrictions that are beyond any one person's control. I am not in any way disappointed with the quality of medicine and care at this hospital. Our family is grateful.

Jenny

Outstanding level of care.

Certified TruthTV1.0

The worst hostipal in Ontario. I have crohns disease of 20 years and I have a medical correspondents from my doctor that states my medical history and information with my medications. This hostipal is rasist and has a problem treating black African Canadian patients. The dr stood up against the wall in zone 2 and didnt examine my stomach he didnt even touch me at all. I am going to file a complaint with the hostipal as well. There is less empathy towards African Canadian patients with dark skin complexion. I seen a white male nurse help a white girl to the treating area. When it came time for me to go to the treating area he didnt think I needed help with my blood pressure at 172/65 feeling light headed I was telling them that my pain in my stomach is getting worst and they did nothing.

Jonathan McBride

the nurses treated my wife and i good and the doctors were helpful, people just need to realize that it is not the staffs fault that they are so slow, it is the governments fault with all there job cuts, the people there are only human they are not machines, they can only do what they can do

CRIMSONEFFIX

Jill Lewis

I suffer from very severe panic attacks, their mental health serves are a joke. They just leave you in the waiting room while having the attack and I'm telling you that is the worst thing to do for someone that is suffering mental health problems. They need better education for anyone's that suffers from mental illness. Not just stick them back in a crowded waiting room while suffering.

Sappy Sav

Fausto Reyes

Most terrible service Ive seen. My girlfriend crying and suffering on the ER bed and these airheads are headless roaming around chatting and laughing. I have not seen such ridiculous medical system here and I am from the USA

Emily Marie

Can I give negative 5 stars? Lol that's what this waste of a building deserves. Shittiest service I've ever seen in the 6 years I've lived in brantford, would 100% recommend the commute to Hamilton McMaster and Hamilton general are fantastic. Not sure if you could even compare it with bgh I mean you can't compare a lump of coal to a diamond right? But if you do decide to come in get comfy because you be in waiting room 1 for 4+ hrs then the second for a few more hrs (there are 3 you get put in before the doctor sees you) good luck????????

RéJane ApalAlways

Staff are exceptionally compassionate and understanding.

Constance Baldwin

I went to the ER with my sister Wednesday night after she had a fall and could not walk on it. We were triaged within 5 minutes. The nurses who triaged us were fantastic. We then were sent to the see and treat area to see a doctor and another nurse. The nursing staff was great and very polite. We saw Dr. Higgins and he analyzed my sisters leg, foot and knee. We were then ordered an x-ray. Dr. Higgins was fantastic! He was polite, knowledgeable and efficient. We were in and out within 2 hours! I would highly recommend BGH to anyone seeking care.

If you have in patients and dialysis patients it would probably be a good idea to have wifi that works. Your wifi has to be the worst. As a dialysis patient, im often left staring at the wall during my 3 HOUR treatment. So not only are your wait times in emerg an absolute atrocity, but now you're in patient services are a joke as well. The WORST hpspital I've ever had to go to. I honestly wish I stayed in hamilton. Fix. Your. Wifi. Jesus.

Andrew Stevenson

Getting better, it's just the odd few you know, it seems as if your interrupting their beauty sleep or them watching a good movie or something, maybe I just attract all kinds. See for yourself, that's all I can say.

Jacqueline Cornelisse

I found the service to be excellent. Every hospital has wait times - get over it! The staff was fantastic. Treat people with courtesy and that is how you will be treated in return.

Benjamin

Excellent care. Thank you

Rosie Bee

I came here around 7.30 pm with chest pain, short of breath and the most ridiculous cough. Told them I have bronchitis and my chest really hurts and it's now 11 pm and I am being told that I have to wait another 2 and a half hours because the doctor didn't come until 11pm and there are a few people ahead of me. My chest hurts and I can hardly breathe what part of that didn't you guys get. I have a cough every 2 seconds and you can clearly see that I am experiencing shortness of breath. Foolishness, do I have to die first?

R.M.M m

The 7th floor nurses and psws are the rudest and laziest people i've ever seen my mom had the worst treatment on that floor when you ring the buzzer it takes them a long time to come in and see what you need and then they act like it's an inconvenience to them.If I could give 0 stars I would

David Nash

Went in with our 2 year old son at midnight as he could not stop throwing up every 10-15 minutes. The triage intake nurse gave a small medication. We were then told to have a seat and they will get to us shortly. At 5am we decided to go home as we could not get an an answer as to how much longer it would take to see a Dr. and our son was so exhausted by this time that he was basically a rag doll.

Erich Rother

Had a great experience here with the birth of our daughter. Throughout the entire process, the staff was very friendly, courteous, and enlightening. All questions were promptly answered and we were regularly checked on by staff. The rooms here are absolutely beautiful on the maternity floor and well maintained. Great job BGH staff!

I'm not sure if I like the time you wait to see a doctor and your in and out... wait 6 to 8 hours by the time they are ready for you ya wanna go home

Orange Felta

Their facilities are more equipped to create the desire for patients to kill themselves instead of ever hoping to be treated appropriately or correctly. Thanks Canada.

Alyssa Cromwell

Terrible emergency room; admitted patients were waiting 2 days to get a room and just had to lie on stretchers in the ER's hallways until then. Generally nice nurses and PSWs. The doctors we encountered weren't good listeners.

Dylan Neo

So slow your newborn baby gonna come out 2 years old. Don't realize when somebody needs a wheelchair on the way in and for some reason can't even give someone an advil for a dislocated shoulder within 3.5 hours I'll adjust my review when a doctor actually gets to my girlfriend Edit: the doctors were great, the triage nurse not so much, but they were very busy. Once she was treated (or near to bring treated) things got better . Total 6 hours

Debbie Runions

I have been here many times and the staff needs training in etiquette and bedside manners, save for a few saving graces. Not only that emerg is downright stupid for wait times. Tried to avoid going here for an emergency as the experiences have always been deplorable, however we ended up here because paris was closed. My bf had extreme pain, so much so they had to give him morphine to help. Tests had shown nothing wrong, and couldn't get an ultrasound done there why exactly? xray was open. they sent him home!! ultra sound was booked in 2 weeks! he went to his family doctor the next day got him an ultrasound the same day and his gallbladder and major organs were so inflamed they put him on antibiotics. and has to have it removed. negligent. 1 doctor on emerg and only 3 nurses? that is not right.

Anita Santilli

I not very Happy with this hospital. My mom and I, between the wanting room and the room that we where in was 7hrs. Not very Happy.

Abbey Webb

I haven't been here in a very long time so I'm going to talk about your "day" program for people with mental illness, I just loved it..I really wished you didn't have to put a time gap on how long some One could be in that program. I'm no longer in Brantford but it would be nice if other communiies could follow in Brantford foot steps with this program! Ty for having this available!!

Gayle Miehm

My husband had a bad reaction to a pain med. DR that came to see him, said I hear you are having chest pain. Being his advocate I said NO he is not. He is hallucinating from the pain meds he was given. The DR reply was, oh, well I did not read his chart. My response was , don't you think you better... Then the DR sent him home with the same Pain Med . This hospital was filthy on the surgical floor. I put a Kleenex under the bed first day and it was still there after five days. The bathroom was not cleaned every day , and the door to it opened the wrong way to allow a walker in. It would not accommodate a wheel chair. God help anybody that needs to be admitted ! Disgusted and disgusting!!

David Parton

Took my father to this hospital for an emergency and was treated with great respect and care. The staff and the Doctor were right on top of everything and service was delivered commensurate with the seriousness of the health issue. I am glad I choose to take him to the Brantford Hospital and will going forward.

Kora Flood

The hospital and our health care system is an embarrassment. 1 doctor for the emergency room. 10 hours wait time increasing chances of contracting everything else.

Micheal Hebert

Doctor had to look up on his phone if my child could have pink eye and an ear infection at the same time. Not to mention the wait time said 2 hours to be treated by doctor when in actually it took 5 hours.

Kenneth Akey

Me and my fiance came here this morning for a D&C surgery which is removal of a dead baby from miscarriage . last time we were in the basement for the surgery. This morning the insensitive nurse orders us to go to the pediatrics floor where theres tons of new borns then the nurse on this floor sticks us in a room with a woman and her new born my fiance just broke down. I asked why are we even up here and they said in a rude tone . its where you have to be for surgery . like no its not then the nurse well maybe next time you guys wont have a miscarriage. Are you serious . only one very nice nurse that was very compassionate. if you can avoid this P.O.S avoid at all cost

harley beck

Alysha Williams

Worst service in any hospital ever, the nurses have no sense of urgency to the patients that actually need it and cateer to the patients that don't need urgent help. I'd rather drive the half hour to mcmaster just so I don't have to deal with them.

David Dyck

Wait times are horribly long.

Kloude Juice

CT scanner broken for 3 days. Inadequate doctors on hand to perform common medical procedures to ensure a quick and healthly recovery. Which compromises the life and well being of their patients! Nursing staff are amazing. If ever you have to go to a hospital I would recommend Hamilton over Brantford.

Jeff

My elderly mother 85 years old admitted with severe hip pain and laid for 2 days in the emergency hallway under the lights with people constantly walking by. 15 or 20 mostly elderly patients lay in the hallways with 2 nurses sitting in a little office that they rarely left. My mother can barely see and asked a nurse for help to unwrap a sandwich for lunch her response ( I'm busy I'll come back later). Are the nurses under staffed or under paid sure but guess what so are the rest of us and this does not give you the right to treat people especially the elderly like dirt. I'm ashamed my mother had to endure this place I should had taken her to the vets or penitentiary for better treatment. If at all possible take your loved ones some place else this place is bad.

Bonnie Carson

I had occasion today to have knee surgery at BGH. I want to thank all involved with my quality of excellent care. The anesthesiologists and nursing staff could not have been more professional, informative and caring. Dr Niroopan is exceptional. Thankyou to BGH and also to the volunteers.

Lindsay P

Labour & delivery has amazing staff. I have zero complaints about my care and my baby's care while we were here. Great doctors, very caring and compassionate.

If I could give separate stars for all of the wonderful, caring employees, I would give many more stars. Unfortunately, hospital policies have placed my father in danger, so I am focusing on that. If I could give 0 stars for the "revolving door of doctors" policy, I would. My father was moved to C4 after several weeks on floor 8. He was making progress on floor 8, that progress stopped on C4 and then his health got worse. Did you know that if you are on C4 you will have a new doctor every two weeks. Sometimes these doctors will not even know what illness you have. Some will not listen to your concerns. Some will prescribe medicines that make your health worse and then dismiss it as coincidence. We rarely leave our father alone in this hospital, we're too afraid. I was told that this policy is now moving to other floors. Go to Hamilton.

Aaron Nowak

I’ve gone to Brantford General Emergency on 3 separate occasions, this morning included, and have nothing but praise for the people working there! Considering it is an emergency room the wait times were way shorter than expected at other hospitals. Night time can be the longest but that’s to be expected with all the local walk-ins closed. The staff at BGH are all very friendly, knowledgeable and thorough. The caretakers keep the place quite clean and the security keeps it feeling safe. I recommend people exercise some patience, they take care of a lot of people. ♥️

Adam Fyfe

Wait time is outrageous, the city needs to do something about it. It’s only going to get worse

A close friend of mine was just in your MH dept and had $50 blatantly stolen from her purse as it was being held by the nurses. This is unacceptable! Someone is there to get care and compassion and end up getting robbed? This is not the first time I've delt with this same issue. When my grandfather was taken there for a pulmonary embolism, the EMTS stole his medication and lied to my face about it. No one did anything. So that's why I'm going to do something! I will be forwarding this information to local media outlets so this can be investigated and taken care of. This is a pure example of abuse to a patient. I've had it with this place. Especially after all the charitable donations I've made to MH BTFD, this makes me sick!!!!! Resolve this, or you'll see it in the 6 o'clock news.

Summaya aarif

Labour and delivery staff is amazing. They take good care of me and my baby. Nurses are so good. Room and washroom are clean.

Becky M

Got transferred to Brantford for an emergency c section and was anxious about being an hour from home. From the moment I got to my room I was treated with the utmost respect, care and gentleness a mom to be and new mom needs. The doctors, nurses and support staff were courteous, caring and most importantly some of the friendliest, upbeat, most kind and caring people you'll meet. Thanks for making Brantford hospital my home away from home for my baby and I during the most important, scary and exciting time in my life!

I've been in and out of BGH quite a number of times since the beginning of the year. 5 surgical procedures in all. The wait times aren't great, but what hospital is? The Doctors and Nurses I dealt with were all great. Dr Lou Miller is a gem and great to talk to. He pulls no punches and tells it like it is. To the nurses up in the Pedeatrics floor who had to deal with me just so I could have a bed, were wonderful. The Surgery Dept with nurses like Marilyn (I hope that's the correct spelling) are 10+. I think Rose works in the Day Surgery section, and she is golden. Maddison at D Wing Registration is an absolute keeper. BGH has it's quirks but overall, I have had little to complain about. To all the other Nurses who I dealt with and can't remember their names, my apologies.

Drew Dynerowicz

This hospital is a joke ten hours in the waiting room.

David Bonany

Certainly not as well equipped as the big city hospitals but the staff care and look after you well.

Lisa Marie Phoenix

I had an overall good experience here. I went by ambulance and was seen relatively quickly. The doctor was incredibly kind and understanding. The Nursing staff were very kind and accommodating. No complaints here!!

Joanne Stoffelsen

I would just like to thank all the nurses and doctors that took care of my mom while she was staying there. They were all very nice and they took really good care of my mom!! Thanks again!!!

My little girl had to wait 3 hours with a broken arm .... This is not acceptable at all !! Ever for anyone or child to wait that long with a broken arm!!! Today was not a busy day there was a total of 7 people in wait rooms even in the examination rooms there was one other person !!! The lady at the front desk is absolutely not with it ... slower than the second coming ...you get paid well to do your job so do it ??!!!! Stop taking your sweet time because that neglecting your patients !!! Wake up!!!!

Kendra D

Father would've been dead if it were not for Brantford's hospital. I am so thankful to the doctor and nurses late in the night who saved his life. So very thankful! The doctor was honest and caring. He kept us updated. The nurses were great too. THANK YOU!!!

Melody McNeil

I'd like to thank ALL the staff at BGH Emergency for the extremely quick and kind attention you gave my grandson tonight. You had him thoroughly checked out and feeling better in no time, and praised Mom for not hesitating to bring him in. I can honestly say I'm very impressed with the improvements you've made with your emergency dept over the last few years.

Jason Davies

Disgusting in cleanliness, rude uncaring triage nurses and unreasonable wait....told 5 hours then 3.5 hours later wait was another 5 hours....left to drive to Woodstock where care is better and times more reasonable even with the drive. So disappointed!

I had a great experience in the service at the Hospital in the Maternity sector on the 3rd floor and in Pediatrics on the 4th floor, the staff were super attentive and receptive, friendly and very professional. Excellent service, great structure, very clean and well organized, the administration is congratulated! Highly qualified professionals to perform their duties! CONGRATULATIONS to everyone in the Maternity and Pediatrics Sector!

gregory forrest

I was recently admitted and want to say that in every way possible the staff handled everything in a courteous and professional manner. As I laid there I thought to myself what does everyone complain about. I was kept for a few days for testing and once again thinking how thorough they are. The person in the bed beside me complained about everything under the sun to his wife and other nurses. I then began to realize when I hear of or read of these complaints I will take with a grain of salt as I had the same room, food , nurses and had the opposite experience.

Joy Joy

first, they denied my service dog entry when I was visiting a patient. I wanted to be able to visit so I placed him in the car then when I came back they said they had to search my items. I was okay with that. they took my epi pen and my glucagon emergency kit. they humiliated me and reduced me to tears. they had a security guard from a company called paladin security named Nick berating and harassing me . he claimed I did not need those items. he claimed to have extensive medical training. 2 RNs and 2 RPNs stood by allowing this man to berate and harass me. they made no interjections to explain that person with mast cell activation disorder cannot be without an epi pen. I tried to explain myself until he finally reduced me to tears. I wound up having an medical episode - episode of syncope due to his aggressive denigration of me and my family including unkind words directed at my young son and needed an emergency code called. the hospital refuses to apologize and has refused to address any of my issues including the issue with my service dog my service dog performs medical alert and response and alerts to prevent episodes of syncope. they really endangered my safety.

Ashley Joyce

I saw Dr. Andrea Unger on an overnight for severe eye pain. I could truly feel her compassion and drive to figure out the source of the pain. Sent me home to await results and she even called me when she got up after her night shift to tell me my results because I didn't have a family doctor at the time. Went above and beyond, best ER doctor I have ever seen!

Tito T

We had a superb experience during the Christmas season. The ER was very busy and the waits were long as expected, but the physician was phenomenal. He was attentive and warm and even wore a festive green sweater to match the season. The nurses and support staff all worked hard during what appeared to be a tumultuous night. We have no complaints.

David Thomas

My Father was in respiratory distress to the point where his lips were turning blue, the breathing person showed up almost 15 minutes later (after being called stat) and looked like she had been sleeping for hours. The ER nurses kindly aided with his distress and took his care seriously

I must say this Hospital has some issues to be worked out. The staff is not the problem they are caring, compassionate people who want to help. The issue is hospital protocols. I myself was in a waiting room for almost 7 hours before I even met a physician. My worry is that some critical patent is going to be left in a waiting room for hours unsupervised by medical staff and is going to die. I strongly suggest traveling to Hamilton for a hospital visit.

Donna Jo McGinnis

My recent experience in Emergency Care followed by Hospital admittance exceeded my expectations. My medical needs were rapidly assessed and my in hospital medical care was tremendous. I feel very fortunate to have had such great medical care. Special thanks to Dr. Jill and the ER team, Pam and the C5 team, Dr. Dickson and Dr. Ajayi.

The back emergency room is tiny and packed. Little to no privacy in the exam station. I had to actively try to ignore other patient's conversations with staff. They take your blood in the hallway. Best to avoid this emergency room if you can. I know that sounds obvious, but it's worth taking the trip to Hamilton to get seen to if you don't want to catch something from sitting face to face with a sick person. The staff were kind and listened well, but this place desperately needs more funding.

Heather Basra Lane

Can't say enough great things about the maternity and Peds staff.

My child was dx'd with type 1 diabetes and sent to the diabetes education program here. We were getting very bad advice and not being prescribed customary modern treatment for a child of his age. We did out research and found online support. Much to our surprise we were not even being followed by the correct type of specialist. they were not even advising us to consult a pediatric endocrinologist. The doctor was just a general pediatrician. The staff said nothing to us about the various tx options. I called pt relations and the young lady seemed very confused and I felt that I was talking to a young girl of about 14 years old. My child has autoimmune mediated diabetes and is very lean. the girl who is in charge of patient relations stated that the team's focus was to help my child lose weight and come off of insulin ?!? I explained that my son has autoimmune mediated diabetes and that he has antibodies that destroyed the beta cells in his pancreas additionally he is mildly underweight due to his recent dx. the young lady assured me (LOL) she is a nurse and she knows of many cases where ppl have come off of insulin. I am a speech language pathologist and was horrified by this young lady and her rudeness. the young lady's name is KAROLINE KULIK and she has been a nurse for all of a hot minute. her behavior and words hurt and I am hoping for the sake of everyone the College of Nurses responds to out complaint and disciplines this pathetic excuse for a Nurse and human being. Absolutely disgusting human being.

My husband was taken to emergency by fabulous EMTs The treatment he got was first class the doctors and nurses are rushed of their feet and still manage to treat everyone with Respect thank you T

Mel Mireault

Worst health care ever, would rather take my chances in a third world country. I was just told one of my people will have to pick up my percrition because they don't have them on site.

3 different times now I've waited so long at this horrible place, I've just walked out. Wouldn't ever return to this hospital, and its no wonder individuals don't want to seek out help, wait 4-5 hours. Rather be dead then have to return here, 100%.

Pam Bray

My father had excellent care from all staff! They were all working very hard and doing their very best. All treated my Dad with care and respect.

Victoria Neil

Drs & nurses have been excellent any time I’ve attended. They don’t get enough credit for the incredible jobs they do

Silka Quinn

The Er is a joke. Doctors there should take their patients seriously. When someone is sick, dont tell them to drink gateraide and go home. I almost lost my husband due to the negligence. However once we were finally admitted and he was in a ward, there was a definite improvement in the quality of care.

I just want to say Thank You for looking after me and curing a problem. I thought I may be dying. I breathe easy. No more gasping. At my age, I am very grateful -- and -- I want you to know that I thank you very much, Dr. Spicer.

I want to thank the doctor's and nurses in the maternity ward for taking such great care of my wife and newborn son. I could not have asked for better, if we had any questions they answered, if I asked them to come and see my wife they were prompt in their care. The rooms were new and clean. I would recommend anyone to give birth at BGH. Thank you again

If you have the option, go to a different hospital. I went their for possible heart pain, in need of an ECG. I had a letter from another doctor because where I was having chest pain was where my heart is. It was Sunday so nothing was open, so he wanted me to get checked that day, and had me go to the hospital. First, at the intake, the nurse wouldn't listen that it was the heart pain, it had been coming and going since I had woken up that day. The nurse just repeated "but what is bothering you this minute", so I wasn't sure to say, at the time I did have a cough so I said my chest. They refused to give me the ECG. The doctor gave me the option to do blood work instead, which he strongly discouraged, but he was so sure that it wasn't my heart, that he would look at it when he got home from work. He checked me out like I was a drug addict, checked for needle marks and sent me on my way. The doctor who had sent me there as so shocked that was how they treated me.

Jaclyn Venables

I went into the ER complaining of abdominal pain and distention. The staff were all so nice, despite the ER being busy. I was met by a doctor who introduced himself as Tony. He joked with me and made me feel better. They got me down for an ultrasound, and the tech was very sweet. When my results came back, it turned out I had a large ovarian cyst. Tony discreetly told me, and they gave me a private room to process this and even allowed my fiancee in. I met with the gynecological team, consisting of Dr. Bates and a student. They reassured me and gave me all the information I needed. I went back for a CT scan, which was very quick and efficient. Overall my experience there was very good. The staff kept on high spirits, they were sympathetic and kind.

Amanda Rickwood

I will make sure I die before I come back here for help and that's a promise even if I'm dying and if I am depressed I'll make sure my next suicide attempt works just so I don't have to go back the worst mental health staff and emergency room staff ever . Please go to Norfolk or hagersville especially for emergency situations you'll be treated with actual respect and they'll make sure you're OK and have someone come to sit with you .

JANICE PERRY

The staff at Brantford General Hospital are wonderful and everyone is very kind an friendly. The nurses work very hard and are very caring, The beds are modern and sophisticated. Try some other big city hospitals and you will realize how good this one is.e

Betty Johnston

My husband was brought in to the ER by ambulance. Had fallen and was in extreme pain. The paramedics had done vitals. His BP was 205. He is diabetic. Was on a stretcher for 10 1/2 hours with no drink, food or anybody checking him. He had an xray of his back. Dr. came in finally and said he was fine to go home. Gave him a scrip for pain which is in his records for him being allergic to. At home I called our family Dr. Took him to Woodstock Hospital. Had a team of a Dr. and 2 nurses looking at him within minutes. Admitted within 2 hours and in his room. Had a broken back in 2 places. Go anywhere but BGH for ER! I gave 1 star because you have to give at least 1 star or it won't post. If I could I would give ER 0.

Worst hospital ever, 4 hours without seeing a single person, nurses are to busy talking about what the plans for the weekend are instead of doing what they are there for. Take the extra half hour drive to Woodstock general!

Gail Guthrie

Excellent experience in the BGH Emergency Dept. April 4, 2016. My mother experienced symptoms of a TIA, so we attended Emerg. We were greeted by a kind volunteer who directed us to the triage. Nurses, registrar, volunteer, Dr. Irvine and Lab all treated us very well. Even though Dr. spent more than half an hour with us, and Nurse administered ECG test, we left within 2.5 hours. We received the lab results by phone call 2 hours later! Many thanks. Gail Guthrie

Lyndsey Menken

I wanted a home birth, but had to deliver at the hospital. I was very nervous, but I had such an amazing experience giving birth at Brantford Hospital!! I’m so thankful! Each nurse/person involved was amazing and kind. Loved it

Lee Kopp

Waiting on MRI on new years eve 930pm for months.Staff was incompetent. Did not notify myself of date change. Lied about notifying my doctor who ensured me they would have contacted myself directly. Called to be put on cancellation list and had female staff member "melanie" react very aggressively . My family overheard conversation. Needless to say they did not appreciate the way "healthcare professionals" are handling patients. Not as much as an apology was given. Recommend trying other hospitals if you are ill, or immobile as the staff is incompetent and verbally abusive.

Zack Rose

Nothing like waiting hours for an update only to hear the nurses talking about snapchat. That's great looking out for the patients. Labour and Delivery floor is probably the best staff, emergency not so much.

My daughter was at the hospital over the weekend and was seen by Dr Van't Spyker. He was amazing, and he left no stone unturned regarding what was causing her symptoms. I have never encountered such a caring and thorough emerg doc ever. The nurses were great as well very friendly and caring, just a great overall experience at the hospital ????

I've worked in my fair share of hospitals (disclaimer: I've never worked at BGH), and I must say that the condition that this hospital is in is downright scary. I'm accustomed to clean, modern healthcare facilities, but the BGH is neither of those things. The paint is peeling, the halls are dark and cramped, elevators are constantly out of service, and I can just imagine the bugs crawling around. I won't speak of wait times, because they will (hopefully) be different for everyone depending on the urgency of their situation, and I won't speak of the attitude of the staff, because in my experience nurses in general are some of the most miserable, overworked people in the workforce. This is true of any hospital I've worked in or attended. However, the general condition of this hospital is deplorable. I will not assign blame...perhaps it's funding related, perhaps not, but I do know that other cities manage to at least have a clean hospital. Something needs to be done. Brickwork falling apart, holes in the walls, paint peeling, strange smells, burnt out lights - this is not acceptable in a first world health care setting. If I was ever sent there for a major condition, I would be scared as hell. If you can't fix your hospital, how on earth do you expect to be able to fix me?

Jodie Cavanagh

I went to BGH for a routine xray. DWing looks like a war zone with plastic sheets, desolate setting, etc. but my welcome was warm and efficient. They are taking every precaution known. Process was efficient, staff so very friendly. They are even taking on new volunteers! Parking is easy, pay machine moved to new exit which is very close. Hopefully the setting gets back to 'normal' soon. Overall pleasantly surprised by experience.

John Mills

Extremely slow ER and after being told by intake nurse "if your daughter is still breathing go to McMaster, if there is anything wrong thats where we will send her anyway". Actually left the so called NICU with our daughter still requiring a feeding tube, because the nurses we had, had no clue how to use it caused our daughter to throw up almost every meal unless we did it. One night my wife told the nurse to slow down as she pushed the food down in under 20 seconds, we demanded another nurse immediately and left the next day after we told the doctor we would be safer with our daughter at home. Hell the nurses even got sick of her monitor always beebing becauae of bradies the shut it off. Keep away from this hospital if you value your life

Allayne Jones

Christian Jittan

This hospital is one of the worse I've ever been to been here with my wife for the pass 3 hours just to get no answers from a very rude doctor I'm surprised this hospital even have people like that working here they basically came in did nothing but rush us out of the room and told us to come back later when he's not busy

James Smith

I had day surgery in the D block the nurses up there are angels I can’t beleave the difference between Hamilton hospitals and brantford incredible I’m so thankful for them nurses up there In the day surgery and recovery they made me feel amazing after a surgery especially in these days thank you

Shawna Bray

I have had a lot of bad experiences whenever I had to go there for myself and many times I left crying in frustration. An incident with my father's care was grounds for a negligence complaint but with that being said I don't completely blame the hospital, it's the health care cuts and so on. It all comes down to money at the end of the day. I know there are doctors and nurses that care but overall the service at BGH needs to be changed. I prefer going to hamilton, they are efficient and more compassionate.

Molly Johnson

Not a place i want to but that took a good care of me.

Jesse Rowley

Very nice doctor, surprisingly quick visit for an ER visit.

Nikki Price

All nurses and doctors were amazing with my son..who was in an accident and had head trauma.. they were fast and very attentive to his needs...during his stay at this hospital we couldn't have asked for better care..amazing job..cant thank you enough..

Patricia Gravelle

I have attended for several procedures during pandemic. It is run smoothly and efficiently and I have felt safe on every occasion.

Johnny Murtie

Lorraine Peters

All the nurses and doctors were great

Keith Robson

If you love your family, take them to Hamilton or Woodstock ER if you can. My son is a victim of a lack of due diligence, sloppy prognosis, and mistakes in testing, resulting in unnecessary surgery, weeks of unexplained pain, and more than 6 weeks into the ordeal still without resolution. EVERYBODY I know has a horror story themselves or someone close to him/her. They sent a friend of mine home with tylenol FOR A STROKE - thank God he got to his doctor right away who sent him to Hamilton.

Julia Williams

I just went to Brantford Hospital at 5:00 pm Sunday March 18 for a knee injury and I was refused care and was told that other patients had more serious conditions. I will never go back to this hospital again. The staff member who told me that they could not provide me care was very rude.

Jesse T (Ecko)

Very long wait times...They do not have enough doctors on site, especially during the night shifts.

Sara Coulter

We really appreciate what the emergency department Doctors and Nurses did for our daughter last night. They were kind and efficient and my daughter isn’t scared of the hospital anymore after being treated so kindly. Thank you for all you do everyday to take care of those in need.

Lily Foster

Honestly I have had one too many bad experiences at this hospital. Labor and Delivery is either a hit or miss for decent friendly nurses. One shift you can have the most caring, friendly and upbeat nurse to them switching and having a grumpy nurse who just started with a terrible attitude of lets get this over with. I am sorry but when your dealing with women giving birth your attitude should never ever be lets just get this over with. Then once you have your child they move you over to post partum wing where they leave you for over 3 hours not checking on you or your baby. Give you a bed that has a divot so big you can feel the frame through it. If I ever have another child I will be going else where.

jm jm

ER should not be used for minor things which family Dr.s can handle in their offices. The wait times are unacceptable because of this for those who need help. ER means Emergency......why does the BGH not turn away those who are not an emergency....and tell them to call their family Dr.s or be prepared to sit for 8 hours as they are not considered an EMERGENCY I am sure they would leave and quickly........solving everyones problem with the wait. I have never experienced such horrible service at any other hospital and have had my share of bgh and other hospitals.

Sylvia Wolski

Absolutely terrible health care service. Was brought to the ER by ambulance after passing out & smashing my head against concrete. Waited 2 hrs on a strecher in the waiting room to even be taken in because they didn't have any beds. After being taken to the back hallway and put on a bed I waited another 4 hours to talk to anyone. Doctor knew my situation yet didn't order any x rays or scans of my head and didnt even bother examining my head for that matter. She said I was likely dehydrated and that I should drink more water...sent me off saying all is good. Next day I returned due to being in even worse pain and came to find out that I had a concussion, whiplash & that I passed out because I had a severe bladder infection. It was a completely different doctor who clearly took his job & patients lives more seriously. He immediately debated between having an xray or ct scan done. The first doctor should have her right to work in her profession taken away because from what I saw she was treating every other patient the exact same way. Neglectful and completely careless. This is absolutely unacceptable...you are better off going elsewhere!! And instead of sitting there behind a monitor thanking each person for their comments, why dont you take that input get off your asses & actually do something to make this a decent hospital for the nearly 100,000 people that live in this city

My mom came in with chest pain. The staff and the doctors in the ER were great!! Even the nurse that my mom had on the floor she was admitted to was wonderful but the doctor she got on the floor was down right awful!! At discharge the doctor was writing up a med that my mom would of had allergic reaction to. The worst part of it is that when the doctor came in to talk to my mom, we told her that my mom couldn't have that med. Needless to say mom refuses to come to this hospital again and I don't blame her!!

Robert Guay

Doctors, Nurses and staff were great but its obvious they were short staffed. That said the ER volume was nuts and as a patient saw first hand how staff dealt with "difficult" individuals professionally.

Vincent Hill

Worst hospital I have been in

Chealsey Wilson

The nurses are so careless... I over heard someone had went to the washroom in their pants as they were very sick and kept asking for help and they just ignored her and told her to wait then when that happend they wouldn’t even touch her. They say and talked about their personal life for atleast a hour then remembered I had still been waiting after 4 long hours to get a chest and throat X-ray and not to meantion they were so rude ..

Elaine Asselin

Went to Emergency tonight after experiencing neck and ear pain thinking it could be related to a previous heart condition. A nurse named Cathy in Emerg looked after my ECG and arranged for an xray and blood work, she was so professional and so very nice and put my mind at ease. The attending physician was Dr Azziz I hope that is spelt right very kind and very reassuring. I was sent home and was very happy with the outcome. So glad I live in Brantford. Thanks again BGH!! ????????

Bek

I waited 7 hours in the waiting room for test results before leaving at 4am without seeing the doctor

Melissa S

Drs. Spicer, Unger, and Withey to name a few have been great for me and my family. many complain like they always do but we have only good things to say. the wait times are awful most days but its par for the course in all ontario ERs. my last visit i was taken right in and treated so kindly by all. from the nurses to the cleaners to the drs.

Sharilynn Savory

K D

Worst wait times to see a doctor. Can't imagine another hospital being worse. Even for something simple you need your whole day free to get in and out.

andrea bahl

Dr. Lucas Spicer seems not to be very knowledgeable. He tends to ask details about my family doctor and how they run their practice rather than addressing my issue. not satisfied. not good to try to accuse your colleague! As a patient I felt he is focusing to cover himself rather than doing his job.

G I

This is the worst hospital ever....the doctors are unprofessional...they gossip about their patients health condition....I went there for a skin reaction and also something was stuck in my throat...they couldn’t detect what was wrong...I thought they all went to medical school? If they don’t like their job, they might as well quit and let professional and serious REAL doctors come in ???????????????????????? Like common LEVEL UP

jim jangles

I have bin here many times and it has bin completly ridiculous. Under staffed the wait times r insane, i just dont understand how it can be so bad. I have bin here for 6 hr now , ans with the same people as when i got here. They really need tp figure something out here, terrible experience every time and i have bin to alot of hospitals in Ontario. Pleaz do something it.

samira ibrahim

Karen M. J. Thomson

Excellent! I arrived at shift change (Sunday morning) and there were no other people in the waiting area. I was seen to immediately and with expedient, capable, courteous and reassuring admin, nurses, doctors there to take care of me. Thank you Triage BGH.

Kevin Guyett

The ER team was great. Was in the 'See and Treat' area and was in and out in less than 3 hrs.

Mike James

Long waits but great Ppl

Went in a ambulance at about 4am to the hospital waited hours laying in the hallway while my brain was bleeding no cleaning of any of my injuries didn’t get any medical attention until 12pm now I have a deformed part in my forehead because nobody could bother to take an extra look at me my paramedics were amazing other then that I wish our medical system had more funds so there wasn’t 1 doctor a night nice people but we need a lot more staffing for how many people go through BGH !

Wayne Symonds

Just spent 3 nights and days there. Can't say enough good about emergency icu staff. Special shout out to Akeem Aiken. Only one night on cardiac floor but staff also very good. All staff grossly overworked. Hospital way over capacity as witnessed by halls full of people on stretchers. And the facility is too old and shoddy. Staff is amazing to cope at all in conditions they have no control over.

Chuck Avery

BGH has the worst service you could possibly ask for from a hospital. The nurses are rude and uncaring, The doctors take as long as they want between patients and have no respect for the patients. Waiting time for a non life threatening injury is anywhere between 8-10 hours, and the more you ask how long it will be before you can see a doctor the longer they make you wait. On a scale of 1-10, 0 is the best score they will get from me & the only score they deserve.

Annette Brush

Barbara Carpenter

My surgeon Dr Niroopan did a super job on operating and repairing my broken femur bone! I was nervous before surgery and he talked to me just before. He calmed me down and reassured me. He was so great calling my family after surgery and he was there for me after surgery. Following up in person and on phone. I cant say enough about this awesome Dr.. Thank you for what you do and for caring for your patients.

Ashleigh Hantrey

Denying medical care and MRI's to people who aren't fully vaccinated... Absolutely despicable. There are no words for how messed up that is.

Victor Zamora

This is the worst hospital EVER. If you want to die then by all means admit yourself into the BGH. My gf has been waiting in the ER for 8+ hours! And the very inaccurate wait time signs said the longest wait time was 4 hours, clearly not true. During that time she was afraid and worried that she would go I to shock. Not to mention during the entire 8+ hours waiting to just see the Dr, there was a 90 year old woman who was sitting in a wheel chair the entire time and absolutely no one came to her assistance until we left and someone finally noticed her alone and was appaulled. We are in our 20s and our backs and bottoms hurt terribly waiting that long. I can just imagine the poor elderly woman who waited for 8 hours in a wheel chair! Think about your lives,DONT go here.

Steve Bonnici

What an embarrassment to the town of brantford. Not only are the wait times RIDICULOUS but the staff are also arrogant and bitchy. DO NOT waste your time like I did!! Go some where else! Hamilton is only 20 min away, and much better in every way , if u account for the wait time you will still be saving a few hours with the drive! They expected me to wait 6 HOURS just for the first waiting room and then expected me to wait another two hours in a SECOND waiting room before I could even see the doc. This place is a joke! I had a pretty serious injury also so I was suprised they made me wait so long. Not only do u wait forever but your surrounded by sick people! And the second waiting room is very small your basically face to face with the person , so if u weren't sick before you will be on the way out.Its also unsanitary, never seen such a joke for a hospital but I guess it is brantford. I'm never going back to the BGH and I hope you don't waste your time either . I'm going to complain to the BBB and to anyone else who I think should hear it because its totally unacceptable and makes going to the doctor a pain when it shouldnt be. How many sick ppl leave because they are tired of waiting and then get other people sick. This place is ruining our town, someone needs to build a new hhospital or something . Pathetic!

I've had to go here a few times and have been treated really well and received great care. I like that their emergency department has a see & treat area that is like a cross between a walk-in and emergency room. The doctor that saw my husband for a serious infection made sure he got the proper medication dosage (he was given improper dosage at another hospital) I also recently gave birth there and the staff were really nice. I didn't see the doctors too often as it was really busy but when my labour started to have complications they didn't hesitate to get me to the OR right away. And the food during my stay was really good!

Ted Zadlo

Waited over 6 hours to see a doctor, BGHS website and it’s wait time was of by 3 hours. This hospital wait time is just reducilous, I don’t recommend this hospital to anyone. During COVID the wait rooms was and is empty. The health care system is NOT overwhelmed in Brantford.

Kaileigh Turner

Emergency care staff are amazing. They are nice, make you feel comfortable, no wait times, know exactly what needs to be done. I have never received such great care in other hospitals. Awesome work ER department. Thank you all for your help today

Alex Gaal

They should have a different wait time system like when it takes your nurse 90 minutes to get you meds and a cup of water

Austin Patterson

Worst hospital in Ontario their are joke

Martin Hassling

Went to my procedure appointment, which I waited few monthes to get, to be told the supplies did not come!!! Few patients I met there told me similar stories to conclude that this hospital is run as a convenience store not as a health care center. I hope they surevey staff satisfaction about current management to get the real picture. Even half star is a big complement for current management.

Patrick “Freddy Fasbears” Gibbs

Using my boyfriends account. Can you possibly give me an estimate as to many messages you have to leave with the diagnostic imaging department before you get a return call? Apparently 5 isn't enough. Thanks

Hailey HP

Have encountered both rude, unhelpful nurses&doctors as well as some amazing nurses and doctors. The hospital needs to be renewed and updated. It's outdated and unappealing. Wait time in the waiting room for the ER is ridiculous. Sometimes up to 8 hours just to get a room in the ER. You could die waiting to be called up to registration. The mental health unit needs updating. I've had some good and bad experiences in that unit. Had an very friendly, caring doctor the last time I was in the ER and a nurse that put me at ease. Other times I have been treated badly. Depends on who's working. ICU staff are amazing.

Afshin Taranom

MY SISTER BROUGHT MY NIECE TO BRANTFORD GENERAL BECAUSE SHE WAS VOMITING, HAD FREQUENT URINATION AND WAS VERY LETHARGIC. THE DR. SAID IT WAS A VIRUS AND SHE WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE BGH ER. THE NEXT DAY MY SISTER COULD BARELY WAKE HER UP AND SHE WAS SLURRING HER SPEECH. WE RUSHED TO MCMASTER MEDICAL CENTER. THE TRIAGE NURSE THERE FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM RIGHT AWAY. SHE HAD UNDIAGNOSED AUTOIMMUNE DIABETES. SHE SPENT A WEEK IN ICU AND WE WERE TOLD SHE WAS VERY CLOSE TO DEATH IN SEVERE ACIDOSIS. MY NIECE COULD BE DEAD TODAY, YET THE 1ST NURSE WHO SAW HER AT MAC KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG AND RUSHED HER BACK TO A BED AND THEY GOT IV INSULIN STARTED . PLEASE TAKE YOU LOVE ONE'S TO HAMILTON OR WOODSTOCK FOR TREATMENT . DON'T RISK THEIR LIVES

Sarah Hazell

My experience here was fantastic. I delivered 2 of my children here. Most recently in Feb 2017. The nurses and Dr's and ward clerk in L&D, Maternity and NICU, were absolutely amazing with us. We were on all three wards over the course of 3 weeks due to complications. All of my tests, meds, and care plan were discussed with me, regardless of how many questions I had. I couldn't find something to complain about if I tried. I wouldn't change my care team for anything. I've had experiences in McMaster and Henderson to compare to, as this was my 4th baby. I felt safe and well cared for, and am grateful for such an amazing group of people working in our hospital. Thanks to all of you!

All I can say is if you can go to any other hospital go. The care and compassion for patients and their families is brutal. Having an elderly father and living an hour away makes it difficult to get there all the time. Updates from nurses is non existent and you can never talk to a doctor. I have taken time off work thinking he’s going home and then he doesn’t. Again today waiting for the ok called the nurses and was told the doctor hasn’t gotten to him yet!! He’s on the list is what I am told but nothing definite. Another day off work wasted!!

rocx conner

7 hour wait for test results, rude staff. Long wait times for no reason.

Ashley Coulson

This hospital is crazy unorganized and the wait times are absolutely stupidly outrageous. The staff are very nice and the nurses are excellent but they're super short staffed.

Sean Tucker

Worst hospital in southern Ontario. People waiting to register after triage while the nursing staff all just sit and laugh for long periods of time. Defund this hospital and fund one where people will actually do there jobs

Pokal Kirtan

There is no management at all. Trust me, if you’re treated to be well and good please don’t come here. Zero management, I have been waiting since last 8 hours still not sure when I will get a doctor.

Go anywhere but BGH! No doctors!!!Worst hospital I have ever experienced in my Life. Be prepared to leave in a body bag.I gave 1 star because you have to give at least 1 star or it won't post. If I could I would give ER 0!!!!!

A Lee

Just had a hip replacement surgery on Wednesday and discharged on Thursday. Every staff person I met in there were friendly, courteous and very obliging. From the screening staff to the cleaners, nurses and doctors everyone was very helpful

Connor Byron

They were very good when I was in there for a neck injury but sometimes I felt like I was forgotten about

usman ahmad

6 hours Waiting to see a doctor. Could have give you 0 star. Worst experience. I left without checkup.

Ross Douboff

Such a waste of time, they do not honor their appointment time, at least never in my case. Twice in a row the waiting time was 3 hours later than indicated. Wondering what needs to be done for them to get that time sense built in their minds.

gpgalkim

Brantford General Hospital is an exceptional hospital with wonderful people. The nurses are kind and compassionate.

Hgf Jgtu

Went to the Emergency room next day after a surgery because I was having pain and peeing blood. I was told not to drink or eat anything until a doctor says so. I was seen after almost 4 and half hours and only after I started voicing my indignation. After 4 and half hours I was dehidrated - mind the surgery was kidney related that require regular hidration. The whole experience was ridiculous co sidering all the priding posters about the "20 min wait, only".

Smita Khatri

I went to the Fracture Clinic for my left wrist. I saw two Orthopedic Surgeons. The first was Dr. Hickey. He told me I needed surgery. The second is Dr. Niroopan who did my surgery. They are both excellent.

Nick Gandolfo Gandolfo

I would like to express how utterly disgusted I am with the experience we had this past weekend. I took my wife in since she was experiencing sudden short term memory loss. It took 10 hours to see a doctor!!! There was only one doctor on that evening which is unbelievable. We were there for a total of 14 hours! and then was told everything showed up normal and that she could leave. No request to follow up with her family doctor...nothing! She was also told not to take her medication which she takes every night and that caused serious issues for her the next two days. And if this isn't bad enough she was called the next day and asked to come and pick up her heart monitor. Turns out it was meant for another patient!! Please think twice before going to this hospital because they are clearly unorganized and under staffed.

chihuahuas from hell

We had a similar experience to another poster . We took our 11 year old in to ER due to vomiting, sudden weight loss, frequent urination etc. BGH diagnosed a viral illness. Her symptoms persisted and she was drinking so much water. We took her to McMaster children's. We later learned that the triage nurse @Mac figured out the problem immediately. She had undiagnosed type 1 diabetes. Her immune system has attacked her pancreas so it can no longer produce insulin. We have been told to be thankful she is alive. We are looking for a lawyer because our poor baby was in severe diabetic ketoacidosis. We have been told by the pediatric diabetes nurse @ Mac that this has occurred many times in Brantford and they are confused how the triage nurse missed the smell of ketones on my daughters breath. The only blessing is that we now get to be treated by an actual diabetes clinic with specialists in childhood diabetes. To think i took my child to an ER in Brantford served by a GP, when I could go to a hospital with a specialist in pediatric emergency medicine. I am so glad my mother's intuition told me to take my girl to a children's hospital.

after reading reviews..........and all the Iam sorry's from the owner.....and the 2.5 rating........instead of all the sorry's do something about the complaints instead of nothing.........thank you folks for the reviews.......one hospital i will not go to

Ali J

My third time coming here and all I have to say is that it's terrible, the nurses are terrible and don't care, the doctors never let me speak of my issues. I'll die before I go there, I mean I might be there again but by the time I'm seen even if I was ambulance brought, I'd probably end up dying

Drew Neath

I had hernia surgery here yesterday and could not say enough good things about this Hospital the doctors the nurses the staff everybody went above and beyond to make sure I get the best care possible my surgery was scheduled for 1:45 I was on the operating table and being put to sleep by noon and was home and in my own bed by 4 that day. I see a lot of the bad reviews on here or about waiting times at the emergency room that's what's going to happen it's the emergency room some days are busier than others expecting to wait six hours is not that big of a stretch (it used to be worse) and if you had life-threatening issues you wouldn't be waiting that long. Other people are allowed to have their opinions and post their reviews I would just like to give the information as honestly and transparent as possible I have no grudges and I honestly say you would be in the best hands if you go to this hospital.

Ryan Collins

Calling to find out about my appointment has been worst than pulling teeth. this hospital shows why they have 2 stars. 6 weeks i am trying to just find out if my appointment has been scheduled for an MRI. it should not be this difficult. Noone calls back or answers the phone.

James Knechtel

MRI machine went down, I show up Monday June 8th, for my 12:10pm MRI, only to be told they called me once, June 7th to advise machine was down, cost me a days work, they could have called June 8th AM...

Adrianne Burbridge

Anees Khokhar

Every time I have come here I’ve always had an unpleasant check in, I find the emergency triage staff bullish and cold. I’ve once left the ER because the nurse made me feel unwelcome. I’m actually here again at the ER this moment and same experience. No hospitality or common courtesy.

Carly Huizinga

I had my daughter a few weeks early so she spent some time in the special care nursery, the Dr's and nurses there were absolutely amazing. They were so helpful and answered my thousands of questions without seeming annoyed. I can't say enough good things about them. We have visited the er a couple times. Yes the wait time was long but it was flu season so that was expected. The emergency Dr's and nurses were incredible. They were respectful, listened to my concerns and didn't brush me off and the Dr seemed to really care and took the time to listen and assess my daughter the times we were there so I did not mind the wait since they really take the time to care for you. Amazing staff!

F&R Mopas

Mammogram hours are now so convenient!!!Love that BGH ????????????????????

Austin Bowman

Unrealistic wait times, staffs decent but wow... 7 hours to get a piece of debris out of my eye seems a bit ridiculous, we have jobs too you know... LIKE EVERYONE ELSE HAS SAID IN THESE REVIEWS.. If you value your time and your life, go to Hamilton. Last time i ever go here.

Christina Speers

Heather Maxwell

10 hours later - still waiting to see doctor in ER. Normal wait time in this ER is 10-12 hours minimum. Triage Nurses are very rude and verbally abusive (yelling) at patients waiting to see doctor. Absolutely unacceptable.

kim astles

My dad took a fall at his long term care home on Sunday and was taken by ambulance to BGH. We are new to the Brantford area and this was my first time to this hospital! Since my dad has Alzheimer’s I was allowed to be with him so I was able to see first hand how he was cared for. I was very pleased with the care in emergency from triage, X-ray, transport and especially the special doctors and nurses that provided so much care. Thank you all and appreciate this so much more during this covid 19 time!!

Mika Braet

The wait times are terrible. I was told that there was only one doctor working in the er. I could have driven all the way back to my hometown, talked to a doctor and driven back by the time I got in.

Michael Lisecki

Kevin Sharpen

The worst organization for any hospital I have been in for a longtime. We were in the ER for TWO days and still no room. No communication by doctors. Never called us with updates after they said they would. Patients were just shuffled from place to place. Asking for help is met with rudeness except for maybe two nurses. If possible a drive to Hamilton maybe worth it.

Donald Curtis

I have a loved one currently in the hospital and assigned to a room. I can certainly understand the challenges of social medicine. With that in mind we would certainly rate the staff fairly high maybe a 4 out of 5. Some obviously more helpful than others. Much the same for the several doctors that had seen christine. The cleaning staff and food people were also very helpful but slightly disorganized. I can only assume this is partially due to under staffing? Or in some cases insufficient training possibly? Our big issue which we felt was ridiculous is this, there is what appears to be black mould around the windows. On many occasions the toilet in the room was not tended to. She did bring it to the attention of the attending doctor and he said this" if the washroom is too dirty maybe you would like to go home" that is not only immoral but down right negligent. It's now 6 days in a room with no definite answers after much testing. She is now heading down for a scope in the morning then released. She is upset and crying in pain and worried the scope may not be clean! Also note in the days spent in the room she was told they do not change the sheets per visit! What about cleanliness and sweat!? Who makes these rules? Another common thread discussed with other patients were rashes on the buttocks from the toilet seats. Ugh It would seem to me on many levels there needs to be interaction and improvement at least with cleanliness and atititude. As much as we hate to do it we are considering contacting the city and brantford health unit. We would definitely like to hear back from you and assure us the scope will be a clean positive experience! Please and thank you!

Louise Voisine

Talking to any of the staff is crazy, they are and not very friendly at the best of times, tried to get information about my mother one word answers from them and completely incompetent nurse! If I could walk in and move her to another hospital you can be sure our family would have! Sad excuse for a facility!

jess bear

Michael James

Went in with chest pains. They sat me in the waiting room for 4 and a half hours. Before anybody else spoke to me. They did however treat someone with a sore foot who came in 2 hours after me. I loath this hospital, it's as if every incompetent person in health care was sent to this hospital. Take the extra time and drive yourself to Hamilton or cambridge.

sabaa shabir

Staff is very kind, professional, and quick

Sara Parsons

Sitting at the hospital writing reviews my sister n law has been at the hospital since Sunday and the hospital system is not failing it already failed. I an a health care professional and I can't believe how dirty this hospital is! The rooms need remodeling and new floor. They need 2 emergencies one for bed blockers (seniors ) ... I would prefer to pay for medical care.

Madison Taylor

Literally the worst hospital ever. Arrived at 5:45 and didn’t leave until 8:45 and mind you this is a good wait time for this place. I had some sort of skin infection on my back that a stupid nurse told me I had the flu...Ya cause that’s the reason i have a huge bump on my back that’s infected lol. Tossed me a prescription for antibiotics and i was on my way, day 2 now and no sign of relief....Glad i went here...Not

We had our baby 2 weeks ago at Brantford General, and should I say these guys are the best. The doctor, and nurses were so kind, patient and extremely helpful. They answered all our questions and made the experience worthwhile. The nurses: Brenda, Katrina, Annabelle, Bernadina, Lynn, Sylvia to mention a few were all very good at their job and were simply amazing. Thank you guys so much, and keep doing what you are doing.
