This is a great place for Alcan travelers to stay. If you are expecting a chain hotel experience, you may not find Big Horn to your liking. However, if you are expecting a chain hotel experience, you probably won't find it between Fort Nelson and Anchorage. So, manage your expectations.
Big Horn was clean, safe, and friendly. All of the staff were very helpful and informative. Much of the furniture and furnishings are indicative of items acquired at estate sales, clearance sales, etc. The shower curtain had tropical fish to go with the blue toilet and tub/shower fitting. The bed room suit had an antique feel (quite nice in my opinion) with gaudy floral print linens. So, don't expect everything to be matchy match stylish like a chain hotel. But, do expect a comfortable bed, a hot shower, clean towels, a clean room that welcomes your pets, plenty of space in your room to relax, and staff that want you to have a pleasant stay.
The TV and WiFi are both run via satellite which sucks in the rain. But, I was pleased that there was a decent TV channel package and WiFi that worked fine when the weather was clear. There is a gas station beside Big Horn, but head down the road to Tag's if you need Supreme or Premium. Be advised there is no elevator if your room is on the second floor. Laundry machines are available for a fee and by this point of my trip I was happy to pay it for clean clothes.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Big Horn. It is run by good folks who want to provide a good option to Alcan travelers. I would stay here again. And, I recommend it as a good place to stay when you pass through Watson Lake.
