I always have a great experience at Preston Dental! Staff is super friendly and helpful and the hygienists always ensure that I am comfortable. I am especially impressed with the steps taken to keep patients safe during the pandemic. I would recommend this dental office to anyone living in this area of Ottawa!

I have been a client of Dr. Karen MacDonald since shortly after I moved to Ottawa in 1993, and I've always been very happy with her manner and her treatment. She was great with helping me through my back-to-school years when I needed fillings replaced, doing the ones that really needed to be done each visit, and telling me which ones could wait. She's honest, kind, and willing to work with you if your resources change. I love the hygienist I work with, and she has helped me improve my oral health with better tools and techniques. She's also very understanding of my essential tremor and how it affects my jaw. I was referred to a specialist for gum grafts, and the Doctor I saw was excellent. He knew his work, was very good at doing it, and was quick and thorough. I'd happily work with him again if the need arose. All of the staff at Preston Dental Centre have been friendly and professional in the time I've been going there, and I would happily recommend them to anyone looking for a new dental centre.

Receptionist: Lacking in customer service and is not detailed oriented. Thanks to Ashley the receptionist.. you just lost your employer 4 clients. Worst receptionist and invoice tricks I have ever encounter. First, no one told me some of the stuff won't be covered by my insurance. Second, we normally have a direct billing (we were a client for many years now) but almost every time we visit, they make the exact same mistake by charging us up front. When I was charged, I told the receptionist that we normally have direct billing and she said no you don't and rushed me out. When I came back to the office 5 minutes later to ask about my insurance coverage, she firmly told me that "everyone pays upfront." So I took her name and wrote it in the back on the receipt because I want to know who to blame when this turned to be another one of their "mistakes". Sure enough... 10 minutes later, ASHLEY (the receptionist) called and admitted she made a mistake and wonders if I can come back to the office. It angers me because she brushed me off TWICE without even properly checked my insurance procedures. Overall, this place is getting worst every week. We should have followed our doctor when she left.

Worst dental experience ever! I'm a university student with basically no dental coverage which I made them very aware of from the first moment. I'm also a single mother of a disabled child, which I also let them know of. I have no means aside from the bit of money I worked extremely hard to save up for the tooth that chipped while eating popcorn (bad luck - I know!). I've never had a cavity in my life or any other dental procedure, which I also made them well aware of! They basically gauged me right, left and centre every chance they got! For a basic root canal, they made me come in more than 4 times, which is apparently unnecessary and unheard of (I called about 6 other local dentists and they could not believe the amount of money this place charged me and the number of times they made me go in to complete the procedure!). Taking into consideration that I'm absolutely scared stiff of the dental office as it is (again, which they were made aware of before I even opened my mouth the first time!), you think they'd have just a bit more consideration for their patients well being, feelings and (empty) wallets!! The last appointment to complete the root canal (sitting #5!) I was literally in the chair with my mouth cranked so wide open it was tearing the skin around the outer corners of my lips! I was actually bawling my eyes out and they just kept going without even checking or asking to see if I was alright! I was so appalled by thus point, almost to the edge of disgust with this place. Then approximately 2 weeks later, this so called root canal fell out!! I was beyond infuriated, so I called and they wanted me to go back in for another appointment (#6!!?! Of course! Because each appointment they automatically charge you some absurd amount just for the "new appointment" sitting! Another way to gauge you financially!!) I couldn't believe it! When I got to the office, I essentially told the receptionist that I was refusing to pay the "new appointment" fee AGAIN, since they're work us supposed to be guaranteed for X amount of time, and she was quite rude yet insistent in telling me that was their policy and beyond her authority to decide. So I said to leave the invoice open until I speak with the dentist.... After waiting for about 45 minutes (yes, even with an "appointment"!!), the same ignorant woman dentist finally decides to put down her latte and magazines to "see me about my issues". I immediately inform her that before I agree to open my already injured mouth, I'm refusing to pay the "new appointment" fee yet AGAIN, and remind her that I'm that university student with basically no dental coverage (15% of over $2000 doesn't count for much!!), a single parent of a young disabled child, terrified of dentists, etc. etc.... Then this dentist has the audacity to tell me that the root canal must've fallen out because of something I did - so it's my fault and that's not included in any dental work guarantees! (Keep in mind that she didn't even look in my mouth at this point, probably because I couldn't really afford to pay the damn appointment fee for a sixth time!!). I was so angered, I informed her I'm a law student and not as stupid as she may think I am. I also informed her my cousin who lives in Toronto is a dentist and I'd spoken in to him about the root canal procedure she performed and pointed out a number of issues that she overlooked and/or were just not addressed with me. She looked quite shocked and began fumbling over her own words, repeating the same bull crap over and over again. Long story short, she blamed me for their poor work, tried to charge me another appointment fee which I refused to pay, and wouldn't even try to fix their screw up! My cousin suggested I report this dentist to the dental college of Ontario via formal complaint and also complain against the practice itself for gauging patients in cost and appointment time! I'm now in the midst of doing so! Beware of this place they will take advantage if you if the opportunity arises!! Worst experience I've ever had!!

I have been coming to Preston Dental Centre for many years for checkups, cleanings, cavities and even emergency visits. This is the first dentist office I have ever been to where I didn't dread my appointment or try to get out of booking a follow up. I have never had to wait more than a few minutes for an appointment and both the dentists and hygienists work efficiently and pleasantly. I have also never had a dentist give such gentle injections of freezing!

Dr Karen McDonald just saw me last minute notice when my temporary cap for my tooth fell off last night. She saw me on a Saturday morning because she happened to there interviewing candidates for employment. she answered and had me come in for 10 minute fix that really was amazing. Thanks Dr, and wanted to say your practice is always friendly and amazing.

I'm disabled and have been seeing Dr MacDonald since I was a kid. The staff at Preston Dental are incredibly kind, competent, and accomodating! Because my health is so variable, it can be hard for me to keep appointments, so I am often booking at the last minute when I get a good day (or a good couple of days). They accept my ODSP dental card without any issues, and have been amazing at wrangling finicky insurance issues. The hygienists are just as understanding and don't give me a hard time if my disability has been making it hard for me to care for my teeth as well as I should. As for Dr MacDonald herself, I've never been unhappy with her work or bedside manner. She's very knowledgeable and is always happy to answer questions or provide more anesthetic -- whatever you need to feel comfortable, just ask! Also she hums along to the music playing while she works, which I personally find pretty cute and funny. Because I've been a patient of hers for over twenty years, I've seen staff members come and go; there have been some bad ones, for sure, but they don't last long. This place takes complaints and patient satisfaction really seriously.

All her hygienists are exceptional and excellent at listening to concerns of patients. They’ve made my dental appointments comfortable and calming. My children are also patients. Highly recommend. Extremely clean and covid cautious as well.

My children and I have been very satisfied patients for many years now. We have always found Dr. Karen MacDonald's work to be excellent. She also really cares for her patients. When I had a dental emergency Karen arranged to meet me at Preston Dental, even though it was her day off, so that she could examine me herself. I was so grateful to her! As for the dental assistants, hygenists, and office staff at Preston Dental, the regular people all are excellent - both professional and friendly. On one occasion my son had a problem with a replacement hygenist but she did not last. Similarly there was a temporary receptionist who did not seem to know the job very well and she was quickly let go. At Preston Dental only the really good people get hired on as permanent staff members!

She is very deft and all procedures I’ve had thus far have entailed the absolute minimum in discomfort. Jen (hygienist) is my absolute favourite!! She does an incredible job and my dental health has improved leaps and bounds since working with her. Highly highly recommend both practitioners!!

I booked an appointment on behalf of my boyfriend and the receptionist, Racquel, spent 12 minutes on the phone with me. She helped schedule a very last minute appointment, answered all of my questions, and gave me detailed information to share with my partner. I'm confident that he will be in good hands!

I have seen both Dr. Guberman (who has since left) and Dr. MacDonald, and had very positive experiences with both. My kids (2 and 6) have also been in for visits, and all the hygenists and dentists have had a great mannerism with the kids - walking them through each instrument they were going to use, letting them touch it, asking permission to clean one tooth first and then the rest. My eldest had one cavity, and they referred us to a pediatric dentist (Kids and Teens Dentistry in Barrhaven) as they have a specialized setup for young children and fillings, so my kids and I have only had cleanings here plus recently my mouth guard. I have insurance and they submit the expenses on the spot on my behalf. One time, there was a charge that might not get covered, which they explained clearly ahead of time so that I could opt in and out of it; another time, when I requested a mouth guard, they submitted an estimate to the insurer ahead of time (before I even booked an appointment) so that I could decide whether or not to go ahead based on my coverage level.

Terrible customer service. Called in to cancel my new patient registration appointment because I had sinus infection. Was sternly told that I ought to be aware of their 2 day notice cancellation policy and that I was going to be charged! Luckily I was a new patient so they opted not to reschedule me again because I had cancelled twice on a one day notice. Definitely not recommending this place to anyone who needs flexibility to cancel their appointments.

Long time dentist-loather here. Preston Dental provided what was perhaps the single greatest health care experience of my adult life. Excellent service from start to finish in a welcoming environment. Everyone from the receptionist to the Dentist herself was incredibly professional, helpful, and friendly. That said, absolutely no bullshit customer relations tactics were detected, and we got right down to business in addressing a minor cavity I had. The anesthetic was applied carefully while I listened to music and watched daytime TV (Ellen). Cavity was taken care of with great efficiency. Importantly, the dentist sat with me for 10 minutes and filed the filling down to my exact specifications. I ate a hearty sandwich some 20 minutes later and chewed like a champ. Insurance was processed on the spot and I was sent out the door with a firm handshake. 10/10 will return. This is my first-ever google review.

In fact, I've since moved away from the Preston area but still choose to come here. They've been very accommodating the many times I've had to re-book appointments.
