Dr. Kevin Fredericks is an indifferent individual who clearly does not value or respect people's time. I have 5 kids, we live in a odd world currently and one would expect a dentist, doctor, or anyone else to be conscious of that fact and treat them accordingly. Sept 29th my 6yr old had an appointment to see them for the first time, as he developed an oral infection due to a cavity. Upon seeing Dr. Fredericks, they could not complete the x-rays they said, as my son was quite swollen at the time and it was difficult. Makes sense right? They proceeded to write a generic antibiotic script and sent me on my way. Later that same evening, Sept 29th, I noticed the swelling seemed to be worse and a red line had occurred under the problem tooth. I immediately took my son to the IWK emergency. Upon seeing a physician there, I learned that the script that Hillside wrote was a generic under-dose (not based on age, weight, physical attributes etc) and that most likely their script for antibiotics "may" work or "may" not. You know, health and medicine isn't a 1 size fits all approach right? Apparently the individuals at Hillside don't know this. The physician at the IWK then wrote an appropriate one based on these factors and we proceeded to fill the prescription and head home. After 7 days of taking the CORRECT dose antibiotics, the infection then started to finally subside. Clearly IF it was the under-dose written by Hillside that i used, instead of the one IWK wrote, he would not have been better by day 7 (in my opinion). Fast forward to today, Oct 12th. My son had a follow up appointment to to assess, do xrays and then pull the problematic tooth. Two of my daughters also had checkups, xrays and cleanings as well on the same day. Upon seeing my son, they again COULD NOT accomplish the dental xrays, said they CAN NOT pull the tooth as a result (this makes sense without seeing the xray). The outcome was my son must be referred to someone else to be sedated to have the tooth extracted. My question to Dr. Fredericks was very clear. Why was this not illustrated as a possibility on Sept 29th so I could make an informed decision? Why was I not told of the possibility that if the xrays could not be completed on the Oct 12th appointment, that a referral would be needed thus prolonging the wait and creating a scenario where my son could have the tooth infected AGAIN. Dr. Fredericks and everyone there seemed to think it was appropriate to not only book 2 appointments for my son and accomplish nothing, they also billed both and proceeded to just kick us off down the line to someone else. When I questioned Dr. Fredericks on the matter he was very dismissive and not at all apologetic about my time. He proceeded to tell me, "if they could predict the future," blah blah, to which I simply asked if he was a professional with experience that could have at least outlined scenarios to allow a parent to make an informed decision. He scoffed at the question. Dr. Fredericks then proceeded to tell me if I didn't like it, I could take my kids (as he gestured to one daughter in the chair currently and the other daughter standing against the wall waiting for her checkup) and leave. All I was looking for was some compassion and understanding that maybe the situation could have been handled differently as to possibly kick start that referral back on Sept 29th, just in case they couldn't accomplish the xrays and pulling the tooth on Oct12th. What harm would have that of caused? None. They knew darn well how long the wait times these referrals endure to have sedation occur and they never once tried to preemptively ensure things were efficient while knowing I have 5 kids. After questioning Dr.Fredericks, he also proceeded to just pass my daughter off who needed a filling as well. UNPROFESSIONAL

Appreciate a dentist with laughing gas but was sent to a specialist for root canal costing $1200.00 and ended up losing the tooth anyway. Dentist had missed a large irreparable crack. Money lost. Left the practice with barely any surviving teeth on the bottom. And the doctor who pulled my teeth had the personality of a turnip. Otherwise staff were friendly and helpful.

The staff at this branch are fine, however the dental professionalism is awful. I went in for a routine procedure and was in significant pain and I asked the dentist to stop what he was doing and he completely ignored my wishes and continued what he was doing, leaving me in more pain than when I had entered the clinic. My original Dentist that I had been seeing since 1997 retired and I was issued this dentist who is barbaric. Please if you are look for a dentist please look else where. There are some fabulous ones around the Cole Harbour area.
