I have known Dr John for 14 years or so. He has been a good friend and my dentist in Vancouver. I can tell you for certain that he is the best dentist I've ever had! 100% ???? The new low-radiation imaging machine is a great asset and tool in the pursuit of impeccable teeth and allows for jeweler-like handi-work. The new, kind staff and the whole team @ Metral Dental in Nanaimo are professional and courteous. They explain all procedures and are direct about the cost of all work needed to be done. Dr John Christensen does care and he his workmanship has made me truly very proud of my smile! Real News!

Dr. Alex Chen is friendly, kind and understanding. So good with my son every time we see him. The office is wheelchair accessible with lots of parking. The office is completely child friendly with toys in the waiting area and magazines and a seating area for ya parents , haven’t noticed a TV or music playing ( we are usually In-and-out ) The ladies at the front are welcoming and informative. The assistants spend a good majority with the patients I notice as we do when we are there, and every visit is comforting and my son - whos 6.5 yrs old suffers from anxiety attacks. Not once has he experienced any discomfort while we are there. I am a very curious person and Dr. Chen and his colleagues don’t mind answering all the questions I have - no matter how silly they are lol AND we can get an appointment within reasonable time to! I will continue to bring all my children to see him as they grow. There’s no one else I’d trust.

They put a crown on one of my teeth, they didn't seal it properly and told me it would last 10 years. Instead its lasted 2, and its gotten two cavaties under the crown *possibly pre existing and they didnt fill them in* Now its costing me $1300 to get it fixed. Do NOT get dental done here.

Wonderful dental office, Dr Chen is amazing. Great dentist but even more impressive is his skill with children. Both my children needed dental work, and both were comfortable with him. My 3 year old was so anxious but he made her feel at ease and did all he could to keep her comfortable. Play kitchen area for the littles in the waiting room. Movie room for those who need to wait for medication to kick in.

As I was enroute to Metral with my two children in tow, I decided to look online for the address and saw the reviews, I was nervous after reading that a previous rating had a less than ideal experience there, but I can happily say that I did not come across any of the flaws mentioned. We had a wonderful experience there, my children were cared for very gently and the staff was wonderful, there is a great little children's kitchen and play area there where the kids spent their time waiting. Dr Chen is great, he was very attentive and told my kids (3 and 4 years old) how proud he was of them for sitting still for the X-rays. Our experience was fantastic.

We were lucky enough to get into Metral Dental. As its one of the only other pediatric dentists in the Snuneymuxw (Nanaimo) region. We see Dr. Chen and he is a delight. A very good example of what trauma informed care looks like for children because they acknowledge your child, inform them, and, in doing so, make them feel safe. I highly recommend Metral Dental and, in particular, Dr. Chen for dental care for your family.
