I used to come here when I was younger and absolutely loved it. I struggle with anxiety and used to receive ODSP for it. Everyone was always so kind and welcoming it seemed. I had missed a few appointments 3 years ago when I was really struggling with my mental health and sometimes couldn’t get past the door. Also still very young might I add. Now as an adult who’s worked very hard to deal with their mental health, no longer receive odsp and do things like go to work AND appointments im being told I can’t book an appointment there ever again because I missed some as an anxious kid. I thought this was somewhere I could feel comfortable going back to for my dental care. When I questioned them about my anxiety I was told that it doesn’t matter. What a stuck up group of people who don’t have room for second chances. All about the dollar here. Guess I misjudged this place when I liked it. Things like this are why people who struggle never go back out and try again.

I've been going to this dentist for a lot of years & my last appointment was very dissatisfied, I'm not sure about returning. My service was bad. It felt very uncomfortable that I almost got up & walked out. They lady I had was apparently from a temp agency & she didn't care. She knew nothing about my teeth, I had to tell her my teeth were very sensitive. Today my mouth is very sore unlike other visits I've had in the many years. I just wanted to pay & leave without making my next appointment as I was upset.

I went there once about five years ago and haven't been back since. After sitting in the chair I came out and they handed me the bill. I'm sitting in my car at a red light looking at the bill: $25 for a mouthful of post-cleaning fluoride rinse. I almost flipped out. I could have literally gone right across the street to the Shoppers and got a whole two litres of fluoride for $5. And of course they don't ask you when you sit down whether you want a bit of fluoride when it's all done. They just do it, and then spring the bill on you afterwards like it's all a normal part of a day's work. How can they get away with this? It's practically criminal. There's people in our community, Kingston that is, doing time, in prison, for this kind of thing. For that matter, why am I paying a dental hygienist all this money to floss my teeth (immediately prior to the fluoride) once every six months? If she wants to do the scaling, great. She can do a better job at it than I could than I ever could at home by myself with a sharp nail or something. But then she flosses me? And doesn't even ask if I want her to do it? And I'm paying for her time to do this? And then she follows up the flossing with a cup of fluoride rinse and charges me twenty-five dollars for it? It's just out of control. Five years on and I'm still angry enough about it to write. I'm adding a new paragraph here, 6-months later, because Google won't let me reply to Altima's reply to me. Altima: Why don't you just tell everyone here why you charge us $25 for a little cup of fluoride rinse instead of making me call you or e-mail you? Just tell us all here why you do it! Tell us why you don't inform people that there's a big charge for the fluoride rinse when they sit down.

Edit 23/09/19 Sadly have to edit this review. I have started seeing a new dentist due to budget issues and was informed that the last of my wisdom teeth needed to be removed as well and was already exposed. I had asked Altima several times while there if that one needed to be removed when the others did as it would have saved me money and having to be put under more than once and was assured that it would not need removing and would be fine to be left where it was. Now because of that I have to spend more money seeing a oral surgeon to have this tooth removed. Strongly suggest anyone else going here get a second opinion Went in today to have my wisdom teeth removed and the service was amazing, I tend to be very anxious and strongly dislike going to the doctor or dentist if I can avoid it. Hence why I hadnt gone even once from the time I was about 8ish till recently when my Wisdom tooth was acting up. I called them a few weeks back when the pain started and they had me in within a few days, then had the appointment for the removal set quickly for me after that. They also helped greatly when I did not have my health card on hand to ensure I was able to get the pain meds that I needed. Today when we went in they were very polite and explained things to me and my boyfriend quickly and easily, and the nurse who gave me the IV has god hands I swear as she was able to find a vein quickly when even my family doctor takes 20+ min to find one on a good day. Past that point I don't really remember the surgery as I was sedated but my one complaint was that when i was taken out of the room I sat for a bit in a wheelchair near the reception not able to move. though that was dealt with quick and might have just been a matter of them not realizing that my boyfriend was allready there to take me home. Over all they were quick, friendly and always professional and I will be recommending everyone I know go here.

Went there for a toothache, they did a root canal, spent the rest of my week in and out of the hospital because they screwed up, gave me a puss pocket under my nose, an abscessed tooth and decided to try and charge me more to help. Worst experience ever. Just moved to Kingston. I went there for a new patient examination and the doctor told me I have five cavities that needed to be fixed. I was unsure of the results and went to another dentist for a second opinion. Later, I decided to continue with Altima and called them for an appointment. They refused to accept me even though I did not choose to leave them. How rude! Never had such a bad dentist experience.

Needed a follow up for a stubborn weak tooth that broke some more. Called Friday, got the appointment for Tuesday, fixed up beautifully and painlessly in less than an hour, and all is well once again. Dr. Chater is great, a real professional and pleasant to deal with. Thanks again, Doc!!!!

Worst dental clinic ever! I am a Queen's student. I called to schedule a simple cleaning appointment and they set up a dental examination (I don't know why it's necessary to examine everything when I ask for a simple cleaning, but whatever). Upon reaching there, I asked the receptionist that I wanted to know what all would be covered under my SGPS dental insurance. She had no idea! I should've run away at that point but I decided to stay and talk to the dentist. After waiting for 45 minutes after my appointment time, I went in and asked each and every dentist if whatever he/she were doing was covered in the insurance and they said it would be since it was all basic treatment. The dentist who actually did my cleaning and scaling did not ask me if I wanted to have the fluoride treatment (apparently, not covered in the insurance), and neither did she tell me that it wasn't covered in the policy. I ended up paying 349 bucks up front and got reimbursed only for 297. I had to pay 52 dollars up and above the cost of 200 dollars insurance premium for the year for a goddamn cleaning. The clinic has been delisted by Queen's SGPS since 2015 for doing shady stuff like this in order to make money. I wish I had checked before I actually went ahead with it. P.S. Queen's Students - Don't ever go to this place.

I’ve had terrible experience with dentists in the past and let them know and they have accommodated my fears and have been excellent with taking care of my teeth. I would recommend them to anyone and everyone. Even when I had an emergency Dr.Chada and his team have done everything in their power, even with Covid, to make sure I was taken care of. (Understanding not immediate but within reason). Again highly recommend. Thank you for everything!

Before coming to Altima I hadn't been to the dentist in 7 years (I am terrible). I was so nervous (dentists frighten me!) And I used to get very anxious prior to an appointment. The first time I visited Altima, they were great and made me feel right at home. I found out I needed to have four large and impacted wisdom teeth removed which sounded terrifying! Dr. Chater walked me through the whole procedure and really put me at ease. The procedure was professional and well done and I had zero problems afterwards. I am so glad I picked Altima!! I'm not afraid of the dentist any longer.

Just Don't Go there! I put up with this centre for 3 appointments. The dentist I met the first time and the hygienist were nice, but the front desk is just something else. I had my appointment rescheduled without notice and just was called they day before to check that I was coming in; I went there with the coupon showing what time they themselves had written on it and they just denied it. The last strike was me showing up for a late appointment (scheduled for 6:30pm); I was there at 15mn to 6:30pm but the door was locked. From outside I could see the hygienist and the receptionist chatting. I called but no one picked the phone. As soon as they saw me, they quickly moved out of my line of sight, shut down the lights and took the back door out. Unfortunately I was there waiting for them; they offered to reschedule but I just turned my back and left. Poor staff

The reason for leaving a one star rating.. Was never treated by the dentist. Plenty of phone calls, from the polite, friendly receptionist. Canceled or switched appointments on me, a few different times. I live 30 minutes outside the city, wasn't easy to drop everything when they had a cancelation, 2 hours in advance. The positive comments on this location are extremely misleading. I chose Altima, largely on these comments as I am new to Kingston and it has been the most excruciating experience of my life both figuratively and literally. I went in for a check up and ended up getting 2 fillings replaced. After this I began having significant pain in my tooth however, the dentist brushed it off as regular sensitivity. I went to the hospital after waking up in agony and was put on very heavy pain killers. I have now had to have an emergency root canal on the tooth he replaced the filling on because of the pain and severity of the infection in my nerves. I still have sensitivity in my other tooth that had work done on it. I would never go back to this dentist, especially with the much more friendly and professional Limestone city dental right next door.

Administrative staff is less than friendly. Also, my preoperative information sheet was filled with spelling mistakes. However, the hygienists, procedural sedation nurse and dentists that treated me have been wonferful. Very good at their jobs and made me feel very comfortable. Too bad about reception, they are the face of the dental centre and the first impression you get is disappointing.

I've been going to Altima Dental for the better part of 10 years now, and at least every 6 months for a cleaning in most of those years. They've never steered me wrong in my dental care. They've always been amazingly accommodating, highly professional, and exquisitely thorough. If something pops up, they create a wonderful action plan that's easy to stick to for even tight budgets. The ladies at the front desk are friendly, they always remember me and treat me like a member of their family. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. They've saved my smile numerous times!

An appointment had to be cancelled because of pregnancy issues, and now they REFUSE to see me, my husband or my children anymore. Because of a "missed" appointment that was made literally the day before for 8 AM. Complete nonsense, terrible receptionists. Turned away a family because of a issue with pregnancy. I first went there as an emergency patient. They took me and were very kind and understanding. I truly appreciated their services and how they were not judgemental. Edit 7/2/19 Wow no star change. I changed dentists to find the same ones work where I went to in Kingston Dental House at the hospital. Crazy all this, the ongoing apots. And my same tooth I originally went in for, is still the same, actually worse. I will never go back to either of these DENTAL OFFICES ! BOTH SUCK ! Original Post ~ After research in regards to white fillings & their life expectancy with proper daily tooth care, a filling should last 7-10 years. So why is it that after 1 1/2 years most every filling I received is gone and im in terrible pain. When I called as they started falling off/out 4+ months ago to voice my concerns I got no call back. This is Unacceptable so I choose not to return. I cat help but wonder why I got no call back, fillings that fall off while eating mashed potatoes , or shottier work because ODSP doesnt pay big. Im confused, hurt & in love with my tube of orajel ! I will be really surprised if they post this review ! That does not seem to happen when its negative ! Regardless that its honest !

Everyone that works here is super nice and knowledgeable. They talk to you throughout the procedures and always tell you what they are doing. They are also gentle so you don’t leave the office feeling sore from someone tugging on the sides of your mouth. I never leave here disappointed. I switched to this dentist for a couple of reasons, but the big one is: I have sensitive teeth, and going in for a cleaning was always a big hassle and always used to mean a couple of days of soft foods because my mouth was so sore post-cleaning. I've seen a handful of different hygienists here and absolutely all of them have been gentle, thorough, and willing to take the time to talk through my concerns. Best of all, they've got my sensitivity under control for the first time in years. I highly recommend every hygienist I've seen so far at Altima!

The people here are phenomenal. I have been seeing Dr Chater and his assistant Mandy for almost a year. I have many veneers and crowns in need of repairs; as well, I have multiple dental issues that are complicated and severe because of past trauma, most dentists are absolutely intimidated to say the least. However, Dr Chater and Mandy have been fantastic with me. I have had many experiences in the past with bad dentists that have been horrible, and so I am not an easy patient to deal with. Dr Chater and Mandy are so patient with me! Dr Chater recognized that I need to have everything explained step by step to be calm, and Mandy literally offers to hold my hand when I'm panicking. They are an AMAZING team. As well, Dr Chater is especially conscientious of my dental costs and makes certain I'm only spending what is necessary (I'm on a student budget without full dental coverage). On top of this, the office staff themselves are awesome. They work with me on billing and treat me like a person not a customer. They are super friendly and helpful. I am sincerely grateful to have found this dentist's office! I completely recommend this place ! Booked appointment for my son around 2 weeks in advance because his Healthy Smiles card was expiring on 31st July. We were booked by the receptionist for 29th July. When I went to the clinic with my son, I was told that there wasn't any appointment under my name or my son's name. The receptionist was extremely rude this time. She did not even apologize for an evident mistake they made. Instead, she started to repeat herself in a very disrespectful way. I understand that mistakes happen, but that's when customer service kicks in. Please spare some budget for training your receptionist. She could have politely offered me an appointment for the next day or day after and I would have been writing a 5 star review right now. But it did not happen. What else did not happen is my son being checked by a doctor. I will now have to wait for the renewal of his card. Until then, he will bear the pain in his teeth because of you guys. Excellent!

I was 15 minutes late for a tooth extraction at 7.5 months pregnant and when i arrived they told me my appt was for an earlier time and the dentiat wouldnt have time to see me. When i showed them my appt card, not only did the receptionist who booked my appt and filled out the appt card sat there not saying a word.. the other receptionist goes to speak with the dentist, comes back out and says "the dentist says we cant see you anymore'' . Then about a week later they call at 7:30AM to reschedule my boyfriends appointment because fhe hygienist to see him called in sick. Super ignorant people working here

I attended the Altima Kingston office for several visits recently to have some extractions and a partial installed as well as cleaning . I unfortunately had not been to a dentist in some time and as an older person was once again not looking forward to the appointment. My concerns were for not because once I got there Dr Chater discussed my options with me and genuinely seemed interested in what was best for me and not what procedures would generate the most revenues for his office. This did not seem to be the case when I had a prior examination at Cataraqui Dental before opting to have Altima provide me a second opinion. The staff is friendly and professional and Altima is now my regular dentist. I have been very satisfied with the treatment I have received and I am a nurse and we’re sometimes not easy to please. I also recommended my mother go there for her dental issues. Altima looked at a problem she had with her dentures and did not charged her. She greatly appreciated this as she is on a fixed income.

I have visited Altima Dental for about seven years and Dr. Chater (spelling?) is my dentist. Dr. Chater is probably the best dentist I have ever had. He performed a wisdom tooth extraction so well that I didn't even realize it was out until I saw it on the tray. Most recently (April 8 2019) I went for a cleaning and Megan performed it. She was polite, perky, professional and she did a thorough and good job. I highly recommend Altima Dental! These comments are about my most recent visit (Aug. 19, 2019). I went for a cleaning and checkup and everything went smoothly. X-rays were the first to be done then followed a very thorough cleaning then an examination by Dr. Chater. The whole appointment took a little over an hour and I left very satisfied (no cavities :-) ) Reception was friendly as usual, I was taken in early, the cleaning was very well done and Dr. Chater was his usual friendly, professional self. All this coupled with good news gets five stars from me. I still highly recommend Altima Dental! On March 5, 2020 I went to Altima for a cleaning. Megan did my cleaning again and did a good job. She also gave me some valuable advice about my gums. Cleanings are much easier since I quit smoking. Altima is still highly recommended!

Extraordinary place! I am terrified of the dentist and surprised any dental office can put up with me. Dr. Chater and his staff not only put up with me, they treat me with kindness, compassion and respect. My hygienist Kristin is so down to earth and funny that I sometimes forget I'm in a dental chair, smiling and chatting rather than my usual cowering and shaking. Office manager Michelle is gracious, patient and has always shown me a great deal of kindness and understanding - even when I probably didn't deserve it! Finally, the man himself, Dr. Chater. First off, he is an extremely good natured and genuine individual who treats all of his patients with the upmost respect and professionalism (even those who flirt relentlessly with him ;). This was my second visit I went first for a consult and was impressed with how welcoming the staff was. First I have to tell you, everyone set my mind at ease. I had to have two extractions and a filling. Extractions for me, have been a nightmare...my teeth are exceptionally difficult to pull. Dr. Fahad Chater showed me my exrays and explained what he had to do. Which included stiching because the sinus was involved. My appointment was for 8:20 on a Saturday morning so I didnt have to wait and worry. I was told it would be 1 and 1/2 hours with sedation, at 9:15 I was done. I didn't experience any bleeding and as Im writing this I have yet to experience any pain. (5:20 pm). I would like to thank Dr. Chater and his whole team who came in early to look after me. I will definitely be returning next time I need anything done with my teeth.

I don't even know where to start.....I have had trouble with my teeth all of my life and have been to numerous Dentists including Dentists at the Altima Dental location however a few months ago I went to a new Dentist there, his name is Dr. Chatter. I can't even begin to explain how much better I feel about going to "the Denist". I have always been so embarrassed about my teeth because I'm sure the disease I suffer from has a whole lot to do with it. This Dr....Dr. Chatter is by far the best Dentist, in fact best Dr. I have ever been to in my entire life. He has made my shame a null issue. He is the least arrogant, most funny, most caring.., I mean I feel protected when I'm with him...when I'm with him he makes me feel like, at that time, I am the most important person ever....and that fact of that matter is, he doesn't need to do that, but he chooses to make me feel that way. I don't feel rushed, I don't feel ashamed I just, for the first time ever when attending an appt with any professional...feel like I am the most important person to him. If he needs to do extra work I don't see any amount of stress on his face..which, we have ALL seen on a Dr's face at some point...at some point we can see that our Dr is looking at the clock, knowing that he needs to see that next patient..nope, not him...when you are with him, he is with you, and only you until you are completely done...then he continues (even though he is late with the next patient) continues to walk you out the front doors and makes sure you are ok. I honestly can't say enough about him except that I pray to God he never leaves that clinic...because wherever he goes, I am a devote patient of his and I thank God he is my Dentist. The most down to earth, non arrogant person I have ever met. Thank you Dr. Chatter!

My cleaning was fine but my dental filling was torture. It felt rushed and when the freezing didnt take right away (they only gave it like 30 seconds), before starting the drilling. It hurt more than I have ever felt. I have had fillings before and never felt that. So then they gave me more freezing.... then I couldn’t eat anything for almost 4 hours because I think they put too much in. Now my tooth which had zero pain before, hurts alot especially when eating and more when eating hot food. They were very rough and impatient and I am afriad to go back to have them look and try to fix ot because they might make it worse... They also changed my appointment time at last minite for my filling. Which was okay because I was not busy that day but still a very bad sign. They also kept calling my wife instead of me even after she told them twice and checking they did have my number as the contact number. They had the right number and my wife is on my file as emergency contact but after mentioning this twice and they even admitted they had my number, they stil called her a third time I was there so my wife handed me her phone and I told them one more time.

I had a bad experience at a different dentist as a child so I went 13 years without any dental care. I booked an emergency appointment with Altima Dental in 2017 because I was having gum pain and they had appointments on Saturdays. Despite my severe dental anxiety, they were amazing and got me in for a cleaning soon after the initial appointment. I have seen Megan for cleanings many times since and my anxiety is almost completely gone. I had to have a tooth pulled yesterday and I had hoped for sleep dentistry, but because of covid that wasn't possible without waiting a very long time. So yesterday I had the extraction done with just local anesthetic. I was very nervous, but the staff did everything they could to keep me comfortable and to explain what they were doing so I didn't feel out of control. Of course I'm a little sore today, but much less than I expected, and my pain is minimal compared to the pain from the damaged tooth they removed! I would recommend them to anyone because if they can make someone as anxious about dental care as I am comfortable, they can help anybody.

My first appointment at this clinic. I was extremely impressed with the staff and the equipment used. The hygenist (Kristen) was so caring and knowledgeable. She took the time to explain the processes she used and listened to my concerns, fears, and needs. Dr. Chater was very friendly, and also took my concerns and wishes into consideration. I have already recommended this dental centre to various family members, some of whom will be booking appointments in the near future. ***UPDATE***Without providing too much private information; I have recieved a "second opinion" and I am so upset I am considering a malpractice suit against this dentist. "Dr. Brian" has hastily removed teeth that (medical explanation excluded) can not be safely/reliably replaced with artificals, and most importantly ignored/didn't notice a VERY SERIOUS infection which has caused much pain and suffering and could have been much worse if not for the "second opinion" I recieved likely, just in time. The infection had gone from tooth to jaw and was close to entering blood stream which is VERY SERIOUS!! I am enraged that this was ignored while my time and money were WASTED on un-neccessary and poorly planned extremely expensive and ongoing major work, which has now left me with a hole in my mouth which will require a bone-graph to get an artificial tooth put in. DO NOT TAKE CHANCES WITH YOUR ORAL HEALTH, GO ELSEWHERE!!! Everyone of the 5 star ratings on here is LIE! Check the dates of the reviews, and also check what other places the users have reviewed and the dates they reviewed them. This is blantantly fraudulant reviewing from the owners. Who do you think reviews all Altima dental centers nationwide within a 3-6 month period and gives them all 5starts (and a few other places- all the same group of companies, all 5 stars) Google has to recognize this as fraudulant. And, if you look at the reviews of those who give low ratings, clearly these are honest users giving honest reviews (see thier other reviews) this is just crazy, I've never seen a company work so hard to lie about thier reputation. I went to Altima dental center for the first time recently, and they are a sales shop with no real dental care skills. They kept me waiting and when they finally got me in they couldn't complete my cleaning because they were closing soon. I saw the dentist for all of 15 seconds and he gave me a terrible prognosis which will cost all kinds of money to fix, and I honestly don't believe him. I have no pain and never had any problems with my teeth EVER. I will be going somehwere else and I suggest you do to! Why was my review removed? People NEED to read this before they have the terrible experience I did.

I am 7 months pregnant and I went in to see if I could get a tooth pulled that has been bugging me for a month and half with pain. Because I am pregnant they won't do it and they have not sent my referral in to kgh or anywhere else so I can get it looked at! I'm very disappointed in them not a good dentist at all. Very slow and don't consider anything for u and don't care for there patients! :(

Dr Kavilaila Bal has been my dentist for a few months now at Altima Dental Services. I have always had a deathly fear of Dentists, however from the moment I walked into her Dental Surgery, I was greeted with a calm & relaxed atmosphere & voice by her & her dental assistant that immediately put me at ease. Everything was explained too me in detail, as well as written costs & graphics re: the proposed plan for my dental care. Dr Bal & her dental assistant are professional, but have an innate way of caring for the patient, in a kind & very caring & compassionate manner. My fears disapated substantially after my 1st visit & by the time I saw her again & had started my dental procedures, I actually didn’t mind at all attending my future app’s! There was little too no pain with extractions & other procedures done, which surprised me! Dr Bal is very patient & is extremely knowledgable & competent in her practice & would not hesitate too refer my friend’s too her, in fact, I have done so! She explains everything she does & if one is not sure about the procedure Dr Bal will always repeat the explanation. As a Professional myself & dealing with many diverse individual’s throughout the day, Dr Bal is a credit too her Profession & deals with each patient as an individual, not just another patient of the day! I have had & will still require more treatments, however rather enjoy my appt’s when they arrive. She strives too make the patient completely happy with the results & if per chance the patient doesn’t particularly care for a particular procedure done, Dr Bal will always make sure the patient will leave her office feeling confident & pleased with the results! She is the 1st Dentist I have come across in many, many year’s who is a consummate Professional, knows Dentistry in all it’s forms & above all is a lovely & personable individual. My results thus far have been astounding & can once again smile without covering my mouth!!! The secretaries at the front desk upon arrival always greet you with “hello & how are you, may I help you?” It is done with sincerity & always a smile! It most certainly helps calm anyone who has “nerves” upon their arrival, it did for me! I will continue seeing Dr Bal after my treatments have been completed & know that having good oral & dental care are imperative & are apart of one’s overall health care. Many will ask about cost & rightly so! I have found the costs comparable with most dentists, but also found they can also be somewhat less than in many instances. Dental costs are expensive & that cannot be denied, however what I payed for is well worth it all, for the looks, but primarily for my overall health & well being. Dr Kavila Bal is one of the best Dentists around &would highly recommend her too anyone. My terrible fear & dislike of Dentists in the past have been put to rest & now have one who does care, not just about my oral health, but as an individual. If you’re looking for a Dentist, look no further...!
