I have had a life long extreme fear of the dentist. It was common for me to cry just inquiring over the phone when I knew I had an issue and needed intervention. I avoided them like the plague. When I moved back to the Comox Valley and broke a tooth, I was fortunate enough to be referred to Driftwood Dental. Long story short - Dr. McGaw, Dr. Borland, and all their staff - from reception to hygienist - just everyone - have been amazing. They instilled such confidence. There interventions (of which there were many in the beginning...that's what happens when you don't see a dentist regularly) were quick, painless, and extremely expert. When I was told I should have my wisdom teeth out - I would have previously dissolved into a puddle of tears and rejected that idea - instead I uttered a quick and calm "OK". I wouldn't go anywhere else. They have all cared for me and my comfort from day one and I walk in with confidence every single time.

I'm a person who doesn't like going to the dentist due to needles, grinding tools and having someone polk around in my mouth. My stress levels go through the roof and feel sick to my stomach and like i'm going to faint. Although all the staff at Driftwood dental are very caring and supportive as well as understanding. So for me i have to do the general anesthetic so that i can get the much needed dental work. I truly recommend the dental office at /driftwood for all levels of dental work needed, they have a really well trained staff and getting service is quite easy and doesn't require 6 month wait for services like other dental offices. If you need state of the art service go to the /driftwood dental, you won't be disappointed. The staff are all fully trained to give every level of service or support needed!

I just can’t say enough about the wonderful care of this dental clinic. I don’t freeze like regular people which made dental work very painful. My dentist referred me to Driftwood Dental (about 12 years ago) and I’ve been so happy ever since. They offer anesthesia which makes a 100% difference in my dental care. I wake up and it’s all done!! All of the staff is friendly and I really feel welcome and that I am a valued patient. I feel like I am in safe hands at all times - the worst part and only pain is the IV. However, the anesthetist is so good at his job that most of that is in my head! Thanks to all of you for the teeth I have. ????

If you have dental anxiety (and even if you don't), Driftwood Dental is the place to go. They are extremely sensitive and kind and will alleviate any fears you have. They offer a variety of sedation techniques--including IV conscious sedation (which is AMAZING btw). Plus, everything in their office is state of the art--e.g., full-mouth x-rays take seconds! I had a molar removed and had no post-procedure pain or bleeding. I applied ice, but even so, was surprised to have no swelling or bruising.

When I went in the front desk lady (she was short and had blonde hair) was rude and wasn’t even wearing a mask your in a dentist office you should be wearing a mask anyways especially during a pandemic

I don't even know if there is point to posting my entire experience with this dentist. I've read some other bad experience and this office doesn't even care enough to address them. So for those that are looking for a dentist that cares about you and not your wallet...THIS IS NOT THE DENTIST FOR YOU! Money aside, cause when it came to the cost of fixing my daughters teeth, I did not care, came to this dentist office cause they where recommended.... I trusted them to help my daughter not put her in more pain. Its been 3 month later and she's still in pain. I have given them 3 tries to fix it and they will not cause she's 3 so I'm having to go get a second opinion that will cost me more $$$ they can see what they did wrong. DR. Chen seems nice (hens why I trusted him) but I'll tell you what happened.... I went into the the consultation and they ran behind 30 minutes, dr. Chen didn't even make the time to meet me the first time. Dr. Magua came in to see my daughter only to tell me she needed to see Dr. Chen and I told him, yea thats why I made this apt. Oh well he's running behind so we will rebook the apt. I waited 30 min to hear that.... when I finally got to meet with Dr. Chen I was clear with all my questions and concerns, and we went over EVERYTHING that could go wrong, except what actually did go wrong, things went down hill after that. When my daughter went in for the work, they put her to sleep and I was there for that part. As soon as she fell asleep I was literally yanked out of the room, they didn't care I wanted to hug her and kiss her, they started rushing their work! When I was called back in she was covered in blood!!!!! CRYING!!!!!! the nurse that i was told that was going to care for her couldn't even comfort her. I sent her to get me a cloth to clean her up and something for her to rinse. I hate blood taste in my mouth I could only imagine what she felt. Well, I called my hubby to come get us and then followed up with them when they made the follow up apt. They tried dismissing my concerns and experience and feed back to improve so other moms don't have to go through the same or the kids. The only person that has shown sympathy and is trying to get my insurance to pay for most of it is the financial advisor Joelle. No one is perfect but when dentist are charging more and more for their services, they need to bring their level of professionalism up to! Refund the customer if they need to go elsewhere to get something fixed if you screw up! Don't continue to take people money just cause there is a shortage for a pediatric dentist here in town. Moms and dads, I highly recommend you look for a different pediatric dentist if you want somebody more empathetic for your child and for yourself. Once my financial situation with this clinic is done, I will not be returning.

I have been going here since arriving in Courtenay 4 years ago. I usually see doctor Lin and I found him to be a great dentist (he corrected a nagging problem that my last dentist in Vancouver told me couldn't be fixed). The hygienist here are great. I used to dread getting my teeth cleaned because I have sensitive teeth and it was rather painful but the hygienist here are rather gentle and I actually like going.

This is the best dental office ever. Pretty much one stop service, as they have a complete team of dentists, endodontist, denturist….staff are great and friendly. IV sedation is awesome, too…dr. Mcgaw is an I’ve expert. Got mine on the first try, and I’m not sure that’s ever happened to me before. Just a great place to go, especially if you don’t like dentists……this office could change your mind!

Dr. Borland was competent enough. The assistant, "Brandi", on the other hand was brutal. She constantly knocked the tools against my front teeth and did not do a proper job of making sure I wasn't swallowing debris. She also put too much pressure on my jaw inserting hardware. My jaw is killing me, three days after having one filling done. All in all I felt abused, tortured. Stay away!

I left feeling so much better than when I arrived, even though there is lots of grueling work to be done...I was a tough customer because I was anxious and they did what they do, put me at ease, gave me hope, and I am thankful! Our highly anxious son (12) had 5 teeth pulled under sedation. The office staff was wonderful with him, keeping things calm, casual and upbeat during his procedure. They were fantastic at helping to calm Mom’s nerves too! ???? We were also very appreciative of the consult before the procedure, giving our son the opportunity to learn about what was going to happen, see the office and the equipment and ask all of his questions to help him mentally prepare for the visit rather than going in blind full of fearful scenarios.

I had sensitivity only once in a while and doctor decided to do filling and while doing this they use power tools and cracked my teeth. Over 2 months now and I cannot even bite a bread. they seem professional at first, but lost my confidence in the procedures, they don't communicate with each other on discussed treatments, they don't answer questions directly, lots of evasive deflecting. they root canalled my girls tooth, when it was discovered they did the wrong tooth and had to then pull that tooth ,that had been wrongly done.they charged her twice. even tho it was the very next day on the same tooth they did. it was 3000$ . they don't give important information to the care taker after major dental surgeries. even when asked directly.they assured us that they had all in office care necessary and it was all in house , then we discovered that the dentureist wasn't even in house and was only in office 1 day a week.(they totally lied to us). the last 3 times(in a row) ive been in the office there has been altercations with dr. mcgaw and patients going on in the office, as far as yelling at each other openly for all to hear. im gonna pull out of this office...

Had a dental emergency. Was encouraged to see on their website they made time to deal with patients in dire straights, it even encourages one to drop in to get the issue dealt with. I called ahead. They could not accommodate me as there wasn't even a dentist in the office! I thought response to dental emergencies had improved in the dental industry. I guess I was wrong.
