All of the teachers always rock and always do an excellent job of teaching, picking new songs, mixing up the moves, and making everyone feel welcome and happy/immersed in the experience. All of the rooms are really cool and also, was super happy that you have "gender neutral washrooms" which my friend who recently visited from London England really appreciated. We went to toronto island the day after our class with Aaron and practiced the beg/int hip hop choreo we'd learned for a couple hours and filmed it, we had so much fun.

Underground has been the best place to help me grow as a dancer. Teachers like Brie and Lauren like to push and motivate you as a dancer but are there to help you if you fall behind. The classes are fast paced and diverse. The studio is always clean and welcoming to new dancers . Definitely would recommend underground to anyone with a passion for dance

I have no past dance experience and have found these classes to be completely fun and empowering! In the last year I’ve slowly been learning contemporary, hip hop, and “Beyoncé” dance routines! Great way to shake off day to day stress and reconnect your body.

A great thing about the Underground Dance Center is that I can try different dances. When I feel that I need more stretching, I will go with ballet or contemporary dance class. I also love Beyoncé and Jazzfunk class. I love this kind of flexibility to choose what I want on that day~ The teachers are great and they make my dancing experiences to be fun. They offer a variety of styles of dance classes at different times. Instructors keep it light and fun. The class I took was so full I couldn't see myself at all in the mirrors and at times could barely see the instructor to know if I was moving correctly. The classroom I was in is also in need of some repairs so a good chunk of space was unavailable making it even tighter to move. Please consider lowering the amount of bodies you allow in each class. Anyone who gets stuck at the back doesn't receive the same quality of a class.

You guys have Allison Bradley. Plus you record the routines so it's a good benchmark to gauge your skill level and learn from your mistakes. The studio is in a super cool area ( I can walk to El Furn). You have Allison Bradley. Everybody who works there seems to be at their prime so I'm looking forward to trying different instructors, you have Allison Bradley, you guys are paperless studio so it's easy for me to find my receipts later on for tax purposes and lastly, you guys have Allison Bradley.

I really enjoyed the classes but didn't have a good experience with the website and customer service. However, I am updating my review after speaking with Nicole. She and Shelby have been great in helping us resolve the issues. Few things to note: 1. If you signup for the trial membership using phone browser it takes you to the mindbody cart to pay and that's where you can check you schedule as well but it's best to download the App. 2. Your trial week starts from the day you make the payment (not the first day you take a class). So make sure to signup the day you want to start. 3. The membership gets renewed on the 8th day so make sure to cancel it by the 7th day if you are not planning to continue. You can cancel or put on hold, if you put on hold you can resume later and carry forward any unused classes. 4. There is a very strict lateness policy, after 5 mins you are not allowed to enter. 5. No one is reachable by phone but Nicole's team is superb with responding to emails about any registration issues or questions. Hope all you first-timers have a great time. It's definitely worth signing up for the trial week if you're new and don't know where to start.

Easy check-in/payment processes, the front desk staff has only gotten more attentive and kind and informative, there is a huge variety of classes, the administrative/leadership team is always coming up with new and innovative classes or supplying those in demand by the clientele, the amenities are always clean and functional, the choreographers are knowledgeable and approachable and the merch available for purchase is gorgeous... Great fun whether young or old! Very charismatic teachers who care about helping dancers improve more than teaching choreography. Took a couple beginner classes with three different teachers and they were all excellent. Not only do they have great personalities who make their classes fun and light-hearted, but they really seem to care about helping dancers get better at dance. Most classes I have taken in the past focused on working through choreography, never really caring about the in-betweens. Like how they break it down by leg work, body movement, and arms only to bring it all together. Teaching in layers helps!! Surprised by the creativity too. You can go to three beginner classes by the same teacher, yet they can all be quite different. I may embarrass myself every now and then, especially when it comes to my Frankenstein like stretching, but it's always a good time and highly recommended.

I took a class on Feb 15. My card was automatically charged for 2 additional classes yesterday which I did not take. They do not answer their phone and you have to wait 1-2 days for a response not a solution. Is this lack of customer service because they think young people (their current demographic) don't deserve any better, think any better, or know any better? I think this behaviour on the part of Underground means they do not think much of their customers. But maybe it is our fault for not demanding any better.

One of my favourite dance studios I have ever been to! I started dancing at the underground dance centre for a month already, and I have seen such big improvements on my body that I didn’t even know that can happen on myself! All the teachers are great! I always ask questions and the teachers are always willing to help. they also tell us to ask any questions if your not sure about a move. My favourite type of dances are jazz funk, Beyoncé, and urban choreography ! (BTW if your really good at hip hop, I recommend urban choreography!) To wrap it up, it’s all about having fun and learning something new!

I liked the complexity and how challenging the class was. The instructor was great and it was good that we reviewed the moves so many times to really learn them. The music choice was also good, and I felt that even though there were a lot of people, I had enough space. I did not like how loud the music was. It was so loud that the reflection off the walls made it hard to hear, and it was impossible to hear the instructor counting even when he yelled as loud as possible. Turning the music down to a reasonable level would be amazing, and it's honestly the only thing holding me back from wanting to come back again.

I love this place, but don't do a class with Kaleela. She lectured (and disrupted) the class four times in an hour about not responding loudly enough to her 'does this make sense' and because two people were whispering in the back, totally not bothering or disrupting anyone. She was really condescending and took all the fun out of the class. Otherwise, great studio and great classes.

Very poor customer service. Don’t waste your money here if you’re new to dancing, they act very pretentious I had recently signed up for a class at this location and was put on the wait list. My friend had booked a the same class right in front of me and hour before the class and got in without being waitlisted. Upon meeting the front desk staff today October 22nd at 4:35pm they had explained that it was a once in a lifetime thunderbolt that would happen. Due to the unavailability of classes I asked to cancel my membership and the staff stated that I would get an email regarding the cancellation and refund. I had left the complex and cancelled my membership only to find out that all sales are final when the staff mentioned that there was a refund. This is a very bad business practice, instead of being accommodating, they kept on giving excuses that it’s the systems fault. When I went back to ask the staff why they didn’t mention that all sales were final, they stated that all the information is available online and said that I should wait speak with someone over email about “maybe” getting a refund. I’ve never been here before and I’m certainly not coming back to this establishment if they are going to use their studio name brand as a justification for poor business practices. I had said this to the staff, and they responded stating “this is why we are one of the best dance studios in Canada.”

My friend and I joined beginner Beyonce with Oleg becaus a) we love Beyonce, but b) as amateur dancers, we wanted a way to break a confidence threshold, and Oleg's class does just that. SO HARD, but jumping right into it really helped push us to become better. Thanks Underground and Oleg!

My sister and I came to the underground dance as two lanky & awkward adults who had never danced a day in our lives. I'm moving out of town so can't go there anymore but wish I could. I'm leaving the underground, still awkward, but my confidence and joy in dance is a million times higher. I had such a fun time and it's a great to get your sweat on. There's a wide range of skills in each class but we never felt dumb or out of place. It's great for beginners. The drop-in format meant we could try many different styles of dance with different teachers, all of whom were awesome. Our favourite was Soca dance with PhoPho though....If you ever open a studio in Vancouver I'll be the first to signup.

Underground provides plenty of dance genres at various skill levels. There are also many different choreographers, so it is nice when there are some that u can gravitate towards to and learn from. It's good that before each dance session, there is a warmup/stretching period, especially for more injury-prone genres such as heels. Many of the choreographers also help give pointers and tips so that dancers can not only learn the moves, but execute the choreography with character, personality, emotion, and individuality.

I like how welcoming the customer service is at the front desk. & able to attend the customers promptly and quickly, even in a fast-paced environment. Even before when I signed up for a class, I sent out an email saying I didn't know which class to take as a beginner and I got feedback right away which was convenient for me & helped me decide which class I should start with. Great variety of drop-in classes - you’ll be able to find something you like, no matter the time of day. Instructors are generally friendly and enthusiastic although you may vibe with some more than others. One down side is I find that the beginner classes do not spend enough time on foundations and technique and therefore it is difficult for absolute beginners to pick up.

I'm usually that odd one in the corner awkwardly moving around to the beats at a bar. So, I figured it was time to take my first ever dance class at The Underground. I must say, I was pretty nervous, and sort of intimidated before heading to the studio, however, the staff at The Underground were extremely pleasant, open, and encouraging. I did a beginner's hip hop class, and I must say I had an absolute ball. My teacher JP was awesome, I got a good workout out of it, and learned some pretty sweet moves. Definitely going back! Recommend to all and everyone!

Horrible customer service. Unknowingly got charged $67 for a full membership after paying the initial $20 for 4 classes. They refused to give me a refund after kindly asking multiple people. Otherwise not a horrible center but definitely over-hyped. Classes are crammed: there's hardly the right amount of space to perform moves. Music is too loud as well so bring earplugs. Stick to Youtube, my friends.

I love how much variety there is available. Drop in Classes give anyone the option to sign up for multiple dance classes, without limiting to a specific dance genre at a time. The hours of operation are convenient for someone like me. This place is open 7 days a week from morning to late evening. Great place to improve your dance skills.

First and foremost, I love the teachers. Every class I've tried has been both challenging and fun and I now have a few favourite classes and teachers that keep me coming back. The facilities are decent - generally clean restrooms and studios are well kept too. It's close to home for me and the front desk staff is always smily, enthusiastic and pleasant to deal with. I've told everyone I know to try a class at Underground!

FINALLY Toronto has a proper dance hub where anyone from the true beginner to professional can come and take class. My instructors so far were great. Though, my first class had too much people and was barely enough space for everyone to move. Please put class limits. The only reason why I gave it two stars was because the customer service sucks. I enrolled for the $20 for 4 classes but they took so long to respond to my cancellation that I got charged for another pass. I wasted $70 and they wouldn't even allow a refund. Even if I would use my pass, I can't because I'm travelling. This happened as well to my other two friends. Absolutely ridiculous.

I got the 1 month trial with one of my friends because we wanted to learn how to dance. We enjoyed our beginner hip hop lessons. They even helped me refund for lessons that i accidentally paid for. Dance studio are very nice and clean. Staff was friendly, and welcoming. Even though i only participated in beginner level classes I could tell that Underground Dance Centre is a great location for dancers of all levels.

I am a definite beginner with absolutely zero dance experience. I took a beginners class and it was really fun at first! However, the moves got way too advanced towards the end and it seemed like most people already knew the choreography. The instructor called me out multiple times and actually mocked me when I made the wrong move at one point, which was pretty embarrassing. I went in confident but left feeling pretty defeated. I’m not sure I recommend this place if you’ve never taken dance or learned choreography before.

I never once used their actual services, I intended to try the free trial for my 9 year old. Timing just wasn't right, forgot about it for a couple of months, then I decided to cancel. I had some hiccup's canceling, could be that I'm not tech-savvy, but make sure you cancel for the classes you signed up for, for example: if you are taking on-demand, click on-demand, so on and so forth. I made the mistake of clicking on the wrong class type and my subscription wasn't cancelled. If you have any doubts that you didn't cancel the correct way, make sure to check your email, it will probably be sent to your junk folder like mine was, asking if you meant to cancel and it will have detailed steps on how to cancel. Otherwise, I would recommend the classes, they looked very enticing if you have the time to do it.

Beginner Hiphop with Aaron was an absolute blast! Each move was accompanied by a hilarious real life example such as ‘walk like a kid who is having a tantrum’ or ‘move your shoulders like you’re showing off new tattoos’. She was really talented and helped everyone learn the moves. There were challenging movements but it was manageable. I will be returning for another dance-hall session soon! I'm getting back into dancing after doing it throughout my childhood but spending ten years away; I've never had much strength or flexibility, and I'm rusty, so I've been nervous about finding classes where I don't feel in over my head. I really enjoy Katrina Berg's beginner contemporary, it's just the right challenge level for me. I liked Kennedy Elder teaching beginner jazz, but she was a sub sadly...the regular teacher, Erin Jacobson, teaches a class that's too fast-paced and technically challenging for me to enjoy. I definitely wouldn't advise taking her class if you're a true beginner or not in good shape. I felt way behind everyone else and it was kind of a let-down. Plus she made this big speech in the middle of class about how it's okay if you're not getting everything right and it's good to get out of your comfort zone etc. and it really felt like it was directed at me, since I was clearly the person struggling the most and I think I looked upset...and I know she was trying to be nice, but it honestly just made me feel worse.

No other dance studio in the city has the amount of variety as Underground. Plus, all the instructors are quality and will help you grow if you consistently take their class. They are amazing and very welcoming. My favourite instructors are hands down Lauren and Kaleela. If you’re on an autorenew membership, it is much more affordable than just paying for individual walk in classes. The only con to Underground is that the woman’s washroom always has an unpleasant smell and often runs out of paper towel. Other than that the facility is clean.

I enrolled in the $19, 4 classes monthly offer to try out hiphop beginners classes. I signed up for different instructor's classes. I tried JP Manabat, Jason 'NOVAA' Brown, Jonathan Wolfe and Oyi Cortez classes. All four of them have great energy and brought different techniques to the classes. They were patient to show all the beginners moves and repeat the moves when necessary. The app has updated class scheduled and makes it easy to pick a class. The rooms are cool, clean with full length mirrors, and clear music systems. I would recommend changing the laptop settings at the front desk to not auto save customers billings info, I wanted to use the laptop but then figured it will be more secure to sign up using my phone. Overall experience was so positive and encouraging.

Dropped in for my first lesson today and had a beginner hip hop class with Aaron Aquino-Annobil. I have to say that the class was everything I've been wishing for from a beginner hip-hop class (lately I've been feeling somewhat intimidated by other classes I'd taken at other studios-—even though those classes did provide some valuable instruction). Aaron's choreography was easy to follow and he really broke down the steps in a clear and memorable manner and encouraged the class to have fun with the movements. On top of that, the class felt very interactive, and the experience was much more than simply following choreography. Aaron had a great sense of humour as well, which kept everyone engaged from start to finish. It was also neat to see people passing by on the street outside, curiously looking in on us and clearly admiring the fun we were having :). The front desk staff were also top-notch; very friendly and efficient, despite working in a super busy environment.

Absolutely LOVE her classes. They have two different sections, which at first was kind of confusing but it's easy after your second or third class! Should update that there website to say that they do not take cash anymore. However, reading some of the previous reviews, I hope they aren’t cashless because they are trying to charge people when they don’t even attend the class or because they hoping that costumers forget to cancelled their membership prior to the month ending. Use to be a Socialist company that has now became a Capitalist company. I’m a bit concern. Really great studio, especially those who want to strengthen their dance skills and/or to professionally training. I agree with a lot of comments that Beginner isn’t beginner. It more for people who have danced for most of their life conventionally or unconventionally but don’t keep up with training. FYI Try Metro Movement OR City Dance Corps if you have Zero Dance training. And In studio for real Ballet training for inexperienced and experienced dancers. They have a better pricing system for actually drop-ins members.

I attended a few Locking classes for beginners in November and December 2018 and was disappointed that the class was too advanced for beginners. - basic moves were shown once, and no time was given to master the moves - almost no techers feedback provided - having not mastered anything the class had to proceed to complex routines - music was frequently stopped and students couldn't practice As a result I couldn't learn anything and stopped going. Posting it now, as met a fried of mine and she had exactly the same experienve with the class. Talked to some other students and they mostly agreed. Otherwise, facilities, techers, students and music is great. Only the process needs correction. SUGGESTION. It would be better to try and cover less, but to make sure that at the end of a class the students can learn at least 1 (one) basic move that they can continue practicing and build on. Long routines are probaly more appropriate for intermediate and advanced classes? Sandra.

Although everyone takes the classes really seriously, they are incredibly fun and you learn a lot in just 1 hr. The instructors are all very passionate about what they do which is nice because that's part of what makes a good teacher. Wil add that as someone who has never danced before, some of the classes do get advanced. But the instructors I had didn't call out the beginners who weren't able to get the moves down. They just addressed the group as a whole and went over the moves again. Will say that taking multiple dance classes has improved my dance skills and I've only been to 4 classes all together. Overall really great experience! Would recommend even for beginners.
