20 years ago I saw the Mark Morris Dance Company at the Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University. I was just a young freshman and probably didn't know that much about dance and hated it. I think that this was so long ago that Mark Morris actually danced with the group. Fast forward to 20 years and I am in Sydney Australia and they are performing a new piece. I bought a ticket because I really wanted to see Opera House as the behind the scenes tour just really didn't cut it. Performed in the Sutherland Theatre, which is not the really cool space, already I was disappointed. That disappointed was quick replaced by a first act of juvenile dancing and ill timing that I have ever seen on a dance stage. It was so bad that I left at intermission. And to think I gave up a ticket to a movie at the Sydney Film Festival.

Adult Into to Tap class was amazing! I'm so glad I signed up. The teacher was very friendly and knowledgeable and took her time with those who needed a little extra help. I highly recommend this class. They lose one star for the cleanliness of the facility. The women's locker room/bathroom was disgusting and there was trash and toilet paper everywhere. It looked like no one had cleaned it in a few days...

I love this studio. They have made incredible efforts to clean the studio and create social distance squares for your practice. They also have done a fantastic job to integrate online learning. Please go and support these talented teachers and take the time yourself to feel free again.

If you're looking to try the in person drop in classes, don't even bother. I bought a 3 for $30 package to get back into dance classes again but due to COVID outbreaks was not able to attend within the 30 day window. I was surprised and disappointed that they refused to refund or reschedule my class package. Customer service was not empathic in any way towards my situation which indicates they're in the business of money-grabs. I would not recommend any friends or family to return to this studio- and they aren't anymore. Save your money.

You may be wondering what indoor dance classes are like during COVID times and Mark Morris does a fantastic job. They clearly map out dance areas on the floor so each person has their own space. They also have a camera with a sensor that instantly can scan your body temp by the front entrance. Interesting tech, friendly staff, and it feels sooooo good to dance with people again!

I attended a Friday night session of BollyX dance class for free as part of a Brooklyn Fit series. I'm a dancer at heart but mostly in the salsa genre where I can "shake what my mama gave me" without hesitation. Though I was new to the Bollywood style of dancing, I loved every minute of class! It was a non-stop, head-to-toe workout, that left you wanting more even if you were wiped out. The instructor was high energy and the playlist was so fun. We danced about 5-6 songs and were instructed to follow our teacher's steps. Warning to those who haven't been to a dance class, the steps aren't broken down into segments. It's more of a watch and get right into the steps all at once. The class ended with a 5 minute ab series in sync with the music and a cool down. Classes are typically $15 for a drop in and they have a full schedule of classes ranging from ballet to Africand dance. I'll definitely be back for more!

Shoutout to my very first dance studio. This is where I fell in love with dancing. Instructors are passionate and they push you to be your best self in dancing. Also, very encouraging and judgment free environment. ????!! The warm up also gives you a great work out. Never forget how it made me feel the burn and sore the next day.

This review is for the company performance I saw last night at Columbus Circle. As a lifelong dancer, lover of the arts, and professional performer, I was excited to see Mark Morris Dance for the first time. I was shocked at how underwhelmed I was. What struck me most was the total lack of technique. I understand modern dance is a different style, but what I saw was mediocre and a total lack of any type of athleticism. Some dancers had pointed toes (Aaron) while others (the tall center girl from the Schumann piece) seemed to have flat concrete shoes attached to their feet. Most of what I saw last night had absolutely no soul. Empire Garden was excruciating and something I feel I could put together with a group of amateurs. If I said "everyone imitate a marching band!" that is what we would see I guess. Sport was cute and fun but again, watching dancers not dancing is not my idea of art. I guess flat feet and no jumps or turns could be excused for an emotional journey but we certainly weren't offered that either. I went in expecting to be moved, to feel something and left feeling blank. Most people around us were very disconnected, shifting looking around to find something more stimulating in the theater to watch. I enjoy going to NYC Ballet and always want their contemporary-ish pieces to push the envelope more, but will stick with paying to see breathtaking dancing there.
