My 3 kids are in the IP program at Marquis and they love it. They get top notch training/instruction from the director herself in ballet and, has the best hip-hop training. The studio is family oriented and very reasonable yearly rates. They also try to keep the costume cost low. The teachers are awesome and no classroom drama allowed :)

I joined the Intensive Program at Marquis in 2015, after leaving another dance studio in the city. Madame and all the teachers always make sure that I am challenged and am given opportunities to grow as a dancer and performer. I feel like I’ve created so many close bonds with my all my teachers!! I always feel supported and I know that they want me to succeed. The instruction is always so professional and focuses on technique. Our studio is beautiful and a great environment for learning. Marquis Dance Academy is a wonderful place to learn dance. It is a very professional and well organized studio. MDA is not only a studio but, it is a family. Marquis has been my dance family for over 16 years as I danced in both the competitive and recreational programs and, it has been nothing short of amazing. Early on Madame noticed my love and passion for ballet, and nurtured it throughout the years, supported me at many competitions and lastly helped me before and during a prestigious ballet competition (YAGP.) She chose solos that captured my strengths and spent time with me rehearsing and refining. I know she truly cares about her students and wants each and every dancer to succeed! I’ve been dancing at Marquis since I was two. The studio has always been like my second home for the last 16 years. I’ve danced in both the recreational and competitive program, and regardless of where you are, the teachers are all so encouraging and have created a fun and welcoming environment for all dancers. Dance has always been a huge part of my life and the support the studio has given me in achieving my goals is more than I could ever ask for. The studio has allowed me to travel, build so many amazing relationships, and compete against some of the best. I truly wouldn’t be the dancer or person I am if it weren’t for Madame and the studio she’s built. It is evident she genuinely wants to share her passion for dance with her students. My daughter has danced with Marquis since 2015, and has absolutely flourished since joining. The growth she makes every year, as a dancer and a performer, always amazes me. The dance instruction is second to none- the teachers are professional, and are trained in their genre of dance. They focus on technique and skill development, while still developing passionate, well-rounded dancers. The teachers genuinely care for the students and you can see they connect with each and every dancer. The facility itself is gorgeous- the studios are huge, with high ceilings and large windows with natural light. The floors are specialized dance flooring, so students can dance safely, with less chance of injuries. As a parent, I appreciate never feeling like I’m being “nickeled and dimed”- things like costumes not being marked up, and reasonable recital tickets make a huge difference to the wallet. This year, like so many businesses, they have been challenged by covid, but Marquis has gone above and beyond to support their families! Even now under lockdown, we have moved seamlessly to zoom classes. As an educator who taught remotely in the spring, I can tell you, online teaching isn’t easy, but the teachers are doing a PHENOMENAL job! I’m sure all the other reviews talk about it being a “dance family”- but it’s true! I am proud to say we are apart of the Marquis family!

Marquis has been such a wonderful change for us this year. This is our first year here, and we are really impressed by many things as compared to our former studio (which shall remain nameless). As soon as we arrived there, it was clear to us that a lot of care that goes into that school. The receptionist is very nice and helpful. The place is beautiful, spacious and th kids and teachers welcoming. They clearly invested a lot of funds in making their new building a special place. It is refreshing to have your kids go to a dance school that is about dance and not about the money. Even the costumes are sold at cost and are way, way cheaper than what I was used to paying. But most importantly to me is that my kids really love their teachers, all of them. They are very encouraging. They teach kids instead of ignoring them or yelling at them. Thanks Marquis!

Money Grab. Signed my daughter up for Acro, 20+ kids - 1 teacher and 2 assistant. Too many kids and not enough attention for each one. The assistants were unable to help the kids, as they are kids themselves. Let's add the cost $50/mo for lesson + $80 for a 1x costume + $65 (tickets for 2 to recital, parking) + dance wear($50). Price $650+ for one session. The dance recital is tonight and my daughter is too embarrassed to go and do the dance. She says that no one knows what they're supposed to be doing and everyone is still running into each other. Save your money and send the kids through the program at Leisure guide.

I have danced at Marquis Dance Academy for around sixteen years now and I can honestly say there is no place I would rather dance. The quaility of instruction you get in the recreational program and the intensive program is top notch and every teacher cares about each student's individual success. Not only are the teachers concerned with developing strong and talented dancers, they are also concerned with developing character and helping dancers grow as people as well. The classes are always led under the best instruction and the new facility makes classes even more enjoyable. Students come from all over to take classes here and everyone enjoys it. Marquis is truly an amazing studio to be a part of!

Though I did like the location and the parking availability I experienced several issues (one significant and noted as my last point): 1) For the first class no notification was provided to advise of which dance studio my child's class would be in - just resorted to wondering around until I found the right one. First impression - poor communication. 2) initially my child wasn't very good but she practiced really hard and became one of the top dancers in the class. My child asked her teacher if she could try out for the lead position as she's worked really hard and there were 2.5 months until recital but the teacher said no. No reason was provided as to why she couldn't at least try. Though I liked the teacher she had her favourites. My daughter was crushed but I encouraged her to continue and I was so proud that she persevered the last few months of the year. 3) All the costumes for the class were ordered too small. Rather than return the costumes to the manufacturer the parents were advised to take it to a tailor as it would only cost $40 to repair (on top of the $65 already spent). The school wouldn't take accountability for their orders or demand quality from their supplier. 4) Last and most disturbing - during the recital I volunteered behind the scenes and experienced severe bullying / harassment. I filed a complaint with the school and another parent of whom had witnessed the harrassment filed a complaint with the school. The school did respond to me and advised they would call me but in fact I had to initiate the call to the school to follow up on my complaint. When I did they told me they would promote the women involved. I felt this was an inappropriate response. On top of that I was to receive a $50 credit for volunteering at the recital and they only provided $25. I enquired and they said it was due to enrollment fees for the next year. Surprising as I didn't enroll my daughter with their school.
