Shelley Whynot (Uniquely Whynot)
My daughter is in her third year at HPA and has been dancing since she was 2.5. Being that this was our third studio, we've had a lot to compare against. When we began our search, I interviewed 8 studios and researched double that. It was not a decision we took lightly because dance is a huge time and money investment.
Our biggest challenge was finding a studio that was professionally run, big enough to offer appropriate skill placement and opportunities for growth and development. At HPA there are opportunities to dance at the rec, pre-comp and competitive level in just about any style of dance you are interested in.
Of the factors we were looking for we have had a great experience with the studio director. My experience is that Angela is quick to respond and always openly communicating with families. She is also highly experienced as a dance teacher, dance examiner and judge, which offers both the teachers and the students the benefits of that experience.
I have most enjoyed watching my daughter grow as a dancer since coming to HPA. When she arrived at HPA she had some large skill gaps and thanks to the dedicated teachers that have worked with her, they have helped her push herself to grow and develop. In fact the other day she reflected on how hard Miss Ashely pushed them when she taught them in previous years and how she now appreciates that push (even though at the time she couldn't see it). Seeing how much her skills have grown is testament to the teachers.
Her favourite style is acro, and Miss Rachel is a one of a kind teacher, that can see potential and help the kids reach it in a kind and supportive way. Before we came here my daughter found ballet boring, but she adores Mrs. King the ballet teacher and I love seeing how she helps the the kids grow. The best part is that she no longer finds ballet boring. There is something she loves about all of her teachers and she is always excited to go to dance. She is there 6 days a week right now!! She wants to work hard for them, and that says a lot. Sadly, that was not our experience before so we are extremely grateful for this.
There is always room for growth, but the bottom line is that the teachers are devoted to their students and their success. If you are looking for that type of environment for your child to grow not just as a dancer, but as a responsible, hard working person that knows how to work as a team, then call Angela and come in for a tour and interview.
