My granddaughter has recently started dancing there and loves it. Mrs Jamieson also thought my daughter at Earl of March and she also loved her.
Our daughter recently changed studios to Linda’s and absolutely loves it. She was accepted by fellow dancers and instructors instantly. The environment is fun and the instruction is specific to each dancer based on their individual needs. Our daughter was looking to be challenged and she has found just that! Thank you to all the wonderful staff and her new dance family for making this transition so much easier.
Linda Jamieson school of dance provides a healthy, safe environment for dancers of all ages and levels. My daughter has flourished in their care with support and opportunities. Mrs. Jamieson and her staff are qualified, experienced, and highly successful teachers who are very kind, caring, sensitive people who share their time and expertise equally with all students. We love it there. We could not find in any other school.
I just wanted to take a moment to congratulate you on an incredible 20th anniversary of The Nutcracker. Looking around the lobby of the theatre with the beautiful gift table and photo opportunities and the backstage scene with all the dancers, teachers, moms, dads, costumes, sets and props all I could think is how proud you must feel. It was so wonderful to see graduates and their families in the audience and even on stage and volunteering backstage. You have created an incredible experience that none of the participants will ever forget.
I attended the Linda Jamieson School of Dance from 3 all the way until I graduated high school. At this school I fell in love with dance. My teachers were fantastic and helped my develop my dance technique and artistry. Not only did they help me become a professional dancer but I also learned many life lessons. At the Linda Jamieson School of Dance I had the ability to become a well rounded dancer in all styles of dance and I wouldn't be where I am today without the support from everyone involved in this community. I still loved to stay involved with this dance community by coming back to watch the performances and also teaching classes at the studio. The Linda Jamieson School of Dance is a fabulous environment for dancers who are passionate about dance and willing to work hard!!
I have been attending at Linda Jamieson for 10 years. Miss j has always been supportive and caring in whatever I do. I dance almost everyday and every time i go into the studio, it makes me feel like I want to live their basically. I highly recommend this dance studio to anyone that wants to learn how to dance.
i joined the studio for a while but then linda herself was telling me how the other sports i do were affecting me in how good i could dance and she never told my parents about it either and she just treated me so poorly
I've attended this studio for 10 years now and I consider them as my second family. The dancers and teachers continuously inspire me and gave me love which made me the person that I am today. I'll forever be grateful for the opportunities I was given and cherish all the wonderful memories from them.
I've attended LJSD for nine years, and my training at this studio as helped me grow immeasurably as a person. Ms. Jamieson and Miss Andrews, alongside the rest of the incredibly dedicated faculty members, have created a great community for dancers to thrive. I've made many close friends here, and the various competitive and performance opportunities the studio offers have allowed me to transcend my comfort zones as a dancer. From a young age, this studio instilled in me many lessons including self-discipline and respect that will help me succeed both as a dancer and an individual.
I have been a "dance mom" at LJSD for over 8 years and have 2 of my daughters in the competitive program and we all absolutely love it! Everything from the competition training to the family experience with Nutcracker is well organized and a great experience for the dancers. The teachers are extremely experienced and always have the dancers best interest at heart. Looking forward to my third daughter getting involved once she is old enough!
My daughter loves this studio. Ms. J is really helpful.
Awesome studio with an awesome owner!
As a senior dancer who has danced at this studio for a long time, I have witnessed what goes on in this studio and I can give a honest opinion about the Linda Jamieson School of Dance. I have seen some low ratings for this studio that are making up situations that are not true. The Linda Jamieson School of Dance enables growth in your child in and outside of dance. Here, dancers will not only learn the fundamentals about dance but also life-skills that help benefit dancers in other environments such as school, workforce, etc. My review is to highlight what really happens at the LJSD and why you should bring your child here to further their dance education. -DANCING- For starters, this studio is a great choice for those who want to have a career in the dance industry by providing the proper foundations of dance. Many dancers have graduated from this studio and were able to successfully have a career in the dance industry. Take Donald Thom , a soloist for the National Ballet of Canada, as an example of a graduate who was able to achieve a career in dance. Even for those who do not want to seek a professional career in dance, this studio is still an amazing choice. Many marvellous memories will be made whether that would be from the faculty or from friends. This studio will feel more like a second family than anything. -OPPORTUNITIES- This studio has given their students numerous opportunities to become a more experienced dancer. In a pre-COVID setting, the studio would host the Nutcracker, attend competitions, have ballet exams, perform at the Harlem Globetrotters, and the list goes on. These opportunities not only add experience to your child’s dance career but provides special memories and will make them feel even closer with their dance friends. -PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING- Furthermore, the LJSD has a patient and understanding faculty. From experience, there have been times over the past years where I could not attend a class because of personal circumstances and the faculty has been very understanding. In addition, when I first joined, I needed a lot of work done and over the years the faculty has been patient to help me become a better dancer. I along with all of the other dancers receive constructive critiques (not criticism) on steps we execute incorrectly and are given time to apply these corrections to ourselves. In other words, the teachers here do care to see growth in their students. Faculty does put the dancers before themselves; no student at the LJSD gets ignored. -CORRECTIONS NOT CRITICISM- In order for your child’s dance education to expand and for them to become better, receiving critiques is a must. In the past, I have witnessed students who receive corrections but take it as criticism which will give themselves a bad experience; which may explain some of the poor reviews. The faculty at the LJSD does not criticize any dancer’s dancing as that would be contradicting to their teaching skills. Instead, teachers here are giving constructive corrections towards their students in order to see improvement. Overall if you are a parent/guardian signing your child up to dance here, you are making a great choice. Hopefully my review has given you a truthful insider view of what really happens at the Linda Jamieson School of Dance.
I attended the Linda Jamieson school of dance since I was six years old and I’ve gained more than just dance experience. I learned lots about how to be a successful and responsible in all aspects of my life. I’m very appreciative for everything Linda taught me!! She is more than just a dance teacher.
We didn't have the best experience at this location. I've always wanted to enroll my daughter in dance classes since she showed great interest in the art from a young age. Due to our family's jam-packed schedule, I never found the time to register until she was slightly older. The studio owner was rather welcoming, and my daughter was thrilled to start dance classes. I thought I had found the perfect place for her. It wasn't until a couple months later that my daughter came forward to how she was being treated in class. The teachers were very impatient with her as she was less advanced, they expected her to understand new steps quickly without demonstration (and got mad at her if she didn't), causing her to feel discouraged and humiliated. She also pointed out how some students got all the teacher's attention and praise, while others were being yelled at or ignored (probably the reason behind the 50/50 with the negative and positive reviews). Reading some of the other reviews, I now realize this is a constant issue in this studio, and it's not the positive environment they pose as. This experience definitely affected my daughter's interest in dance. She was extremely hesitant whether she wanted to try dance again. Don't go here. Your kids deserve better.
I’ve attended LJSD since I was 8, and I’ve always appreciated the professional yet enjoyable environment the studio brings. Ms. Jamieson and the staff are extremely attentive and truly care about their dancers. It is such a delightful environment, allowing dancers to achieve the best of their abilities. This studio has taught me so much about friendship, teamwork, leadership, perseverance, work ethic, and so many more incredible life skills. I have gained so many amazing memories dancing at the studio that will last a lifetime, and for that I am very grateful for everything Ms. J has given us. It’s been a pleasure to be a part of the LJSD family and it’s become a second home to me.
Ljsd was a wonderful place to grow up. I learnt not only how to dance but also how to be a great person. Ljsd has supported me even after graduating and has opened me up to a life time of opportunities.
I’ve recently joined the Linda Jamieson School of Dance and everything has been amazing. The staff and other dancers have been nothing but welcoming and kind. The teachers push me to do my best at each class. I love it here!
I attended the Linda Jamieson School of Dance for the entire duration of my dance education, from the time I was four until I graduated high school. Since then, I return to the studio every time I am home, to either work with the students, watch the many incredible performances, or reconnect with the teachers that watched and helped me grow into both the dancer and person I am today. I can honestly say that this institution is one of the best options for any young dancer looking to not only solidify technique and performance training, but to also gain an immense understanding of values and morale.
Well my son did not have the best experience Mrs.J was very impatient the dance instructors are rude but his sister went there too for 1 year and Mrs.J stood on top of his sisters legs. I would not recommend this dance studio it is very bad
As a dancer here for over seven years, I am so thankful for my experiences. LJSD has such a welcoming environment that allows individuals of all abilities to thrive. I have met some of my best friends here and created some of my best memories. The training is very professional and helps dancers achieve a high level of skill in so many genres! I am forever grateful for the ways LJSD has shaped me as an individual and a dancer!!!
I'm boggled by how much LJSD has prepared me for life. Working through the versatile, technical training personally gave way to embrace dance as an irreplaceable space for self-discovery, development and artistry. I know Linda and the faculty are very passionate and experienced in their craft. I made the MOST special friends, and connections that expand the possibilities in my world, and I LOVE this atmosphere where everyone wants to work hard and grow. Especially aiming towards a profession with such sparse windows of opportunities, I am proud to say that I am now confident to achieve my highest potential and dreams, thanks to the tools I gathered from LJSD.
The owner of this studio bullied her students and taught unhealthy mindsets to little girls. She picked some favourites among the students and bullied and yelled at everyone else, which is why the reviews for this studio are so divided. She would yell at the students, calling them lazy and other names. Not only that, the yelling was so commonplace that she had to convince the students that she did it because she “cares” and “wants you to improve.” She has also fat shamed other people around her students and even fat shamed the students. In one incident, she called a student fat and lazy because they made a mistake, and another time they told a student she should lose weight. The student in question was skinny, but even if her weight was enough to be a major health concern she should've voiced her concerns to the parent and not humiliate her in front of her peers.
It's ok
My daughter did not enjoy this place.
if you are considering sending your child to this studio, please reconsider. this might be one of the worst places to sign up your kid. teachers will expect you to already know things without teaching you. the owner is so rude and this place has given me so many bad experiences. its not worth it. go send your child to a studio where the teachers will care about seeing their growth. not a great place for new dancers.
Not my favourite dance studio. In my experience, Mrs. Jamieson seems to lack patience and comes across as abrupt. Information was not alway relayed between class and home, however, costumes were beautiful.
I've been dancing at LJSD for quite a while now and it is always so much fun. I've grown not only as a dancer but as a person too. They've taught me how to keep a positive attitude, how to improve my confidence, as well as many other things. Mrs. J, Ms. Andrews, and all the staff at LJSD are so kind, so dedicated, and so caring. They've continued to inspire me and I'm forever grateful for everything they've taught me. I've had so many great experiences here, at this studio, that have become some of my most cherished memories. Nutcracker, competition, and recital have made me learn how to keep my self-discipline, keep my self-esteem up, how to maintain confidence, and how to perform. Not only that, the environment is amazing. I've made so many great friends (who've turned out to be some of my bestest friends ever) and the studio really feels like a second home. It's where I can enjoy doing what I love and be myself. LJSD means so much to me and I am so so grateful for all the teachers and dancers. I highly recommend this studio for dancers with a passion.
My daughter has recently started dancing here and loves it! The instructors have true dance experiences to share with their dancers and there is a positive attitude every class.
5.0 /5 I strongly recommend the Linda Jamieson School of Dance for potential students and encourage parents to put their children in her care and skillful supervision. She develops "stars" of the dance world. Linda Jamieson is an extremely warm and caring teacher! She loves kids! She has been highly successful both in Ottawa Secondary Schools teaching English and Dance as well as in her own Dance School. I organized master classes with Russian Ballet Teacher and Choreographer Mr. Igor Petrov of the famous Kirov Ballet Company and the Mariinsky Theatre, he said, "Linda's dance school is not just very professional, but it is the best school in Ottawa." Linda Jamieson is an outstanding teacher. Her academic degrees in Theology, Psychology, and Education along with her Master's Degree studies in Psychology have resulted in a most successful life-long career working with children and teens. As a member of the Royal Academy of Dance, and as an extremely creative person, Ms. Jamieson's skills, knowledge, and love for her students have resulted in many of her graduates dancing in World Class Companies such as the Royal Ballet in London, England and the National Ballet of Canada to name a few.
Mrs. Jamieson, Ms. Andrew and all the staff in this school are the best dance instructors I ever seen. They are most kind, patient and inspiring professional as teachers and dancers. My daughter learned not only dance techniques from school, but also build her confidence and positive attitude in her life. We are so grateful to find this school, and would love to recommend this school to anyone who share the passion with dance.
My daughter has danced at LJSD for years. She loves dancing there and especially loves being part of the Nutcracker production - It is pretty unique and special that all dancers are welcome to be part of the production!
A very professional and talented staff! Linda and Ellen and their staff exceed anyone’s expectations! Would highly recommend their pristine location and their caring and compassionate nature towards their students. A class act!!
I love this place! I rate the dance school 5 stars and the teachers too! They are wonderful, welcoming, and charming! They accept everyone. I would recommend this dance school.
Highly recommended - experienced and professional dance instruction in a respectful and family-friendly studio. Mrs. Jamieson, Ms. Andrews and all of the staff provide a warm environment where individual strengths are highlighted and each student is challenged to achieve their personal best through dedication and work ethic. My children have been supported in their development, skill level and have such positive connections with their instructors and peers. Their resulting confidence and enthusiasm for dance is a joy to see. Communicating with staff is easy and respectful, and Mrs. Jamieson goes above and beyond to support the dancers, seeking feedback from students and parents throughout the year. The annual Nutcracker performance is a beautiful production for all ages and showcases the incredible talents of the students and dedication of instructors.
Miss is extremely impatient and rude, communication is very bad, information is always delayed. Cost varied depending on her mood. Not recommend to go.
dancing is really good and i like it better than anything
My daughter has been dancing at the Linda Jamieson School of Dance for 9 years and has become very passionate about dance. She is gaining valuable dance experience across all dance genres. The school focuses strongly on dance technique, with an especially excellent education in ballet. The school offers a variety of dance experience not only through the different genres of dance, but through various means of performance such as competition venues, the annual theatre performance of the Nutcracker ballet, as well as an additional ballet theatre production at recital time. Competition numbers and theatre performances are well rehearsed and attain high standards in attention to detail. Students learn to be responsible, to be committed, to strive to reach their full potential, and to have a strong work ethic. I recommend the Linda Jamieson School of Dance for those looking for a school offering a wide variety of dance experience, focusing strongly on dance technique.
Poorly run, they don't respect there clients , they don't care about new clients my daughter was registered and we paid for here , after reopening after the lockdown they never contacted us and when we called she didn't care and she was trying to say that my daughter is not registered but we had the receipt and then she refunded the money at 11 pm . Would not recommend this place .
Miss J's studio is top notch for classical and competitive training in Ottawa. I attended the Linda Jamieson school of dance for 14 years and the training I received helped me in so many ways. Not only did it lay the foundation for me to achieve my goal of becoming a professional dancer, but it was always my favourite place to be. The family community we had taught me so much about teamwork, friendships, dedication, commitment, and drive. I can not thank the teachers enough for creating the most special space for kids who share the passion of dance. This studio will always be home, and I can not recommend it enough!
I have attended LJSD since I was 6, and I have nothing but positive things to say. From the professional faculty to the supportive environment; I am proud to call this my second home. The teachers here genuinely care about trying to make yourself improve to the best of your abilities. I have always felt welcomed into the LJSD family even when I was new student attending the studio. The training from this studio has not only helped me grow as a dancer but it has helped me grow as a person. I have been taught about friendship, respect, self-discipline, time-management, along with many other valuable life skills. The close friends that I have made here is something that I will cherish forever. I am truly glad and grateful for all of the opportunities that I have experienced from attending the LJSD.
Linda Jamieson School of Dance is the best studio in Ottawa. My daughter loves the school and takes the team as her second family. I would like to recommend this dance school to the families who want their kids learn dance seriously.
My grandson has been attending Linda Jamieson's since he was four years old and I can't believe how his confidence has grown in that time. He loves all his teachers at the studio and dance is all he talks about. During the summer he would rather be at dance classes than anywhere else. I think this says a lot for Linda Jamieson and her teachers.
Our daughter, Victoria, began to dance with the Linda Jamieson School of Dance at the age of 3 in the Creative Movement class. From a shy and timid little girl that loved to twirl, she has blossomed into a beautiful, graceful and radiant individual. Her passion for dance has grown over the years and while one could say that is has evolved into a full-time job, she has learned to manage juggling academic, home and dance responsibilities with ease. The instruction, structure and care that she has received while at LJSD has allowed her to become an accomplished individual. We have witnessed a tremendous change in her behavior and overall attitude as well as an increase across the board in her school grades and her maturity level. Victoria is always ready for dance. As if being at the dance school every day isn’t enough, she volunteers her time every Saturday morning and shares her enthusiasm with the little dancers. In her mind, there is no such thing as “too much” dance… While some people may question why we allow this amount of dance at such a young age and if it will interfere with school work, I would like to point out that her focus, drive and commitment have been nurtured by a staff of professionals that take their students successes to heart. The professionalism and the devotion of the teaching staff is exceptional. The life skills that Victoria is learning right now will help her become a well-rounded, respectful adult. Thank you Mrs. Jamieson, Mrs. Andrews and all the other teachers of the LJSD. Thank you for everything you do, day in, day out!
