Dance has been the art medium in which I have discovered myself and nurtured much of my self-growth. When I moved to Ottawa from Edmonton, I was a lone dancer who practiced by himself for the first three years in the city. Before my loneliness impacted my relationship with dance, I discovered Moov Ottawa. They have introduced me to a new community of incredible artists and provided countless cherished memories via their dance events. Their warmth and energy has been one of my highlights living in the capital of Canada, and for that I am forever grateful.

My organization was hosting an 80’s themed party. We hired Moov Ottawa Dance to perform for our staff. Alea and her team of dancers were so amazing. People were talking about them into the night. They really helped create the vibe for our party. I was also impressed at how many people got up for the interactive part of the show. Arnaldo and Alea are such great dance instructors and amazing with kids. They are patient, fun, nice, skilled and make the kids feel comfortable and confident to try new moves. My girls took some break dancing lessons with Arnaldo and they had the best time. He was able to teach them some pretty cool moves, and they had so much fun. Arnaldo put a lot of efforts into the lessons (with great music, equipment, and fun drills) and it paid off. Both girls decided to register for a dance battle at a public park with several experienced (and older) dancers. The event was really well organized by Moov Ottawa and we had a blast. The girls stepped out of their confort zone and did amazing, with the support of Arnaldo and Alea. We will never forget this incredible experience.

Alea and Arnaldo has provided so much for the dance community in Ottawa by organizing indoor and outdoor dance sessions, workshops, and battles in the past years! The amount of work and consistency has definitely paid off where more youth and adults have been interested in either participating or spectators these events! I approached Moov Ottawa about classes for my daughter in the middle of the pandemic, and they developed a class to suit her skill level. My daughter has been training with Moov/Bboy Effect for about 8 months now, and I have seen a whole different spectrum of her dance open up! They have been great at opening up opportunities to battle as well as make connection within other branches of the dance community (local film). Alea is such a pleasure to work with. She made a great connection with my daughter who she remembered from a dance battle she participated in. Went to see the Moov Ottawa Dance “Series Dance 10” performance titled The Underground at the Ottawa Dance Directive (ODD)‘s space at Arts Court. As a recreational dancer, underground dance club goer, music lover and lover of all things dance, this performance blew my mind. I’ve been following the Moov Ottawa group for some time and attended many of their Street Battle events and I’ve always been in awe of the local dance talent we have in this City / Region. These dancers truly are superstars. The confidence, strength, passion and creativity they embody in their craft is like no other - I’m always left in awe. So I was not surprised to find that Moov Ottawa’s “The Underground” performance was a special one. The venue was perfect to illustrate the vibe of Underground Dance culture. A dark room and subtle lightning illuminated the dancers performances making you feel like you were in a club watching dancers just vibeing to music. It didn’t feel like a performance. It felt like I was watching people just enjoying themselves, doing what they love. Watching them dance, hearing the music, I couldn’t help but want to join them. I couldn’t keep still in my seat as the excellent sound system at this venue made me want to move. My head and shoulders moving along with the music and the dancers, imagining in my head what it would be like to dance with them in The Underground. The performance focused on Underground Dance Culture and the different dance styles that embody that vibe: breaking, house, hip-hop, waacking and punking. We learned the history of these dances through very well crafted story telling. I loved Karl (Carl?)’s way of story telling. He was such a breath of fresh air. It set the stage beautifully for the dance performances that followed, just connecting the audience even further to the culture and the dances. And the performances and the dancers performing them were beyond exceptional. The nature of these dance styles is a playful one and you couldn’t help but smile and laugh watching the dancers play with the music using their body’s - creating art through movement. That’s what I love about dance, and I especially love about these underground dance styles is that these dances are a means for us to express our souls. When you watch the dancers you feel how much they love what they’re doing and you get a glimpse into the beauty that’s inside them. Dance is an outlet for self-expression. And it’s so beautiful to witness. All in all, I couldn’t recommend Moov Ottawa and their performances any more highly. They love what they do and it shows and they do so much for Ottawa’s Dance Community. If you love music, dance or are even just curious about dance culture, please check out Moov Ottawa. Moov Ottawa did a goo job at engaging our students from kindergarten to grade 8. They brought them out of their comfort zone and had them trying some new moves. The students enjoyed the experience. They did a particularly good job with our grades 4-8 students. All students had fun but this age group was over the moon. Presenters were motivating, fun, and friendly. The students enjoyed the mini performance at the end. It was a great experience for our school.
