Seriously not trans friendly!! Customer Service people always try to redirect me to the "women's" section when I'm in the men's. One guy tried to argue with me about the nature of wool. "I'm just trying to buy a pair of shoes, dude, can you just help by getting me a pair in my size?" I had to ask.

Surprisingly good outdoors store given how small Whitehorse is. They carry apparel and gear (e.g. tents, sleeping, bags, fuel, etc). Great place to stock up before heading out into the Yukon backcountry.

i've only had good experience here. good staff, good product selection. bit pricey since they mostly sell well known brands so it can help to wait for the end of season sales, boxing day, Yukon appreciation day etc.

The clothes are fine but good help must be hard to find in Whitehorse. Pony tail dude is intense and in customer's faces. German lady with long brown hair continually tells people they are shopping in the wrong section if they are shopping for opposite gender clothes. (Been told from at least two sales people there that I'm in the wrong section when shopping in the men's section and heard reports of that from other locals too.) Tall German guy in the shoe department, (don't think he's there anymore,) wanted to lecture me about the nature of wool instead of just finding me the size shoes I wanted to try on. Didn't bother me at first but it's kinda a theme now. Figured this is a good way to let them know that, If you want to make sales, it helps to let people shop for what they want.

Coast Mountain Sports is the only store of its kind in Whitehorse. It sells premium outdoor brand products and has a wide variety of products and brands to choose from. Though, I have given 4 stars because even though it has a wide variety of products available, still it does not compare to the selection available down south. I just wish they increase their collection even more, this being the only store to offer premium outdoor brands products. Also, another small detail I would like to mention is that there are very less products on sale/discounts and promotions are far less than what you get down south. (Though this is not a deal breaker) But, one standout point about this store is the customer service. It is one of the best I've seen in an outdoor sports store. Keep up the good work Coast Mountain Sports.

We flew up to Whitehorse to do the Chilkoot Trail. We popped into Coast Mountain Sports to pick up last minute supplies, bug nets, spray, fuel for the stoves etc. Very, very well equipped and prices are reasonable.

Absolutely mu favourite store in town. It is very rare that I don't find the exact item I'm looking for, but if I don't they offer to order. For camping and hiking, they have everything. Best of all, dogs are now allowed!

Bought a new pair of $300 hiking boots, was told that I can return them new for 30 days. Note, new only, any use and they will not take them on return. I asked 3 service assistants that if a lace loop breaks on an hour walk on pavement, in town, they will not take them back. Unused returns only was the reply. And all this with an indifferent hostile attitude. Very disappointed. I had hoped to suit myself up with an entire backpacking setup, tent, pack, and all the bits, won't consider it now. If I receive this hostile service just asking questions, I'll skip the nastiness that will no doubt occur if I return any item with a defect. Shame really, it's a very nice, well stocked store with competitive prices which is the reason I gave it one star

EDIT: until this date no one contact me or follow up my inquiry for the refund money which I never received back, After talk to The PIC mentioned below, is small amount indeed but really not professional at all how you treat people ! My debit card approve and I sign the receipt then suddenly this cashier ask me to show my ID, I gave to him my driver license he then asked again another where’s my name in card? I says it my card it debit - he asked again another photo ID or other credit card. I says to him that’s debit not credit card - I use the card in shoppers, independent store, marks etc no difficulty whatsoever and this transaction has deduct my debit card amount. He asked why’s my name on not in card? I answered this is Debit card in my country not in canada, then he said why there name in card? I says if you insist I can show you it’s online banking card connected but I don’t have WiFi - then I can’t show it if you can gave me access WiFi to show you then I can prof it my card. Then by diminish me he says if I can’t proof that this is my card then he do refund! I asked “what’s for?” Cause last time I buy shoes and jacket here i didn’t have this difficulty, this is not my fist time buying something from here. I asked where the SOP or law says I need to provide all this ID document etc to do verify my purchase after he already swipe my debit card and transactions made?? He says colds and ignorant says it the laws and kept saying I make big fuss about it he just do refund cause it not acceptable transaction! with 2 man already line up behind me im upset with whole situation and agree to do refund and just signed it. I understand if the SOP for debit card it’s required to show ID, photo ID and other thing needed but is he gave me the information prior?? at least gave heads up before accept my card and made finalizes the transaction with my card ( it’s already deducted)- if my debit card have no name written (although there is my signature behind which he can match with my ID) and not meet all the requirement to do purchased then I can simply use cash instead make refund. It’s not Canadian card it’s visa from my country which will be more hassled for refund cost fee etc. I realize Every time I use my Visa debit card I sometime surprise cause I didn’t have to put any pin/ password in atm but some machine required to and I easily can check after is it as according my purchases or not cause it debit not credit card! But anyway if the communication is good and his body language is not that offensive I will not upset this much! He clearly diminish me with his words and gesture.I’m really disappointed in how he treated me - sound racist and so not accommodating in city where I should feel treat fair and good. I’m customer in this store, It’s really not nice to be treated like that. I should’ve meet the store manager to address this situation. I hope they re-trained that man well and appropriately, in every country I visit they treat customer like gems, or maybe only with me he act differently as I walked away from cashier he bad mouthing me with other customer what a unpleasant experience I ended up buy the beanie and glove from sports expert and still out of curiosity cause this is the first time I’ve been treated like that, I ask if there’s SOP to handed over ID PHOTO AND OTHER ID FOR DEBIT PAYMENT ? I had went in to return a Columbia Rain Jacket that had popped open the bottom zipper numerous times in the field. (I have had this issue before and it's a real pain when you like to keep dry.) Previous to this I have always had a very good experience with the store staff. Thay are usually nice and very helpful. I purchased alk of my climbing gear here and am very happy with the service; However this time I felt as if she was implying that I was lying and making the story up as she had made me reenact bending over numerous times (haha right?) I have gone home now (5hrs), and the jacket had popped open ????????‍♂️????????‍♂️ I suppose I'll just have to purchase another one, but you can bet your last dollar I will not be purchasing from this store anymore. Congratulations, you have lost a good customer. ????????‍♂️????????‍♂️

Store itself is a little too crowded with items but it seems its the only outdoors store in the north so it makes some sense. However, the costumer service is the most amazing I have ever received which is not what I would expect in the north. Came in to get a new sleeping bag because I am cold sleeping. Ended up dealing with a woman named Aurelia, she explained to me how "sleep systems" work and how they need to work together. Ended up saving me money and after trying it out for two weeks, I can say I now sleep better in the tent than I do at my own home. Beyond expert advice. She also took time to explain to me some safety precautions and ways to use whats around me in a survival situation. We got caught in a bad snow storm and used some of her advice. I dont think we would have died, but if it wasnt for her we would have had a lot worse of a time and maybe turned back. If anyone gets the chance and has camping or survival questions go talk to Aurelia! Or better yet, Coast Mountain sports should have some classes and she should instruct?

I love this store, but my experience this week has me seriously concerned about the direction it is going. I went in 20 minutes before closing to pick up a quick bday gift for myself, sounds funny but it is my tradition and a way to treat myself. As I am looking at the Patagonia wall a staff members walks past into the office and all I hear from the office (in a very loud voice) is ‘Closing time, get out of MY store.’ A few moments later two male employees emerge, no acknowledgement, no apology just more goofing off as they ask a female employee to shine a headlamp in their eyes. Seriously, the store was still open, there were customers shopping. Very disappointed at this level of unprofessionalism from a store that I love. Still giving a five star because this store is an essential Yukon retailer, and I know they can do better, but seriously step it up! Needless to say I left empty handed and disappointed.
