Love going here for the deals, but the staff are horrible. They are all stuck up and miserable. When I go to the till they don't greet me, they just grab my items and start ringing them through. No thank you for shopping with them, they just tell you the total, take your money and some of them just walk away after that. It's so sad that a store with such potential has such horrible staff. Be happy, you have a job!!

My go to place to shop for my kids before anywhere else. If I end up shopping at the mall I always end up seeing the same thing at Once Upon a Child for half the price! Great deals especially on shoes! I usually end up not paying anything as I trade in their old clothing and shoes for bigger sizes. Staff is super friendly and always willing to help find what I’m looking for.

As a first time mom who likes to buy second hand this store has a great selection of name brands at good prices. I would bump up my rating to 5 stars if checkout went a bit faster. I’ve been in 3 times and each time they only had one till open and had to wait a while in line, which isn’t ideal with young ones.

They used to be nice but lately I don’t find things (I couldn’t find leggings for 3T) and they’re not accepting some perfect clothes. I once bought pants. Unfortunately I put it aside for over two weeks and then when I got it out of the bag to put it on my daughter, I saw a hole. It was too late to return. Moreover, how did they buy this? Anyway, I now look on Facebook marketplace. And we donate/sell the ones we no longer use. I have to say their points system is pretty nice though. If you find plenty of stuff for your kids age, i recommend you inspect thoroughly everything before paying.

Great selection of new and used children's clothing, accessories, toys, etc. Great return policy if something you buy doesn't end up working out for you. The aisles are a little tight so its not the greatest for maneuvering a stroller around, especially because its usually busy. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable for the most part. I have yet to sell anything there so I can't comment on that process but will update this review once I have.

The employees seem to think selling your clothes here is the most heinous act of terror you could ever commit. Filled my entire van with trash bags full of clean, trendy clothes... they rolled their eyes at me and did not even greet me when I walked in. So what if I was asking them to buy women's clothes from Kohl's? I'm only a size M... and if you're shopping here you're poor... so your children are probably obese anyways!

First of all, I do not go out of my way to complain. I only give a bad review when it is beyond warranted. I am a mother of three on disability. I called the day before, explaining I was coming down from Campbell River and had a lot of items. The young lady explained that everything had to be freshly washed. I asked if the unwanted items would be donated to charity because I didn't want to haul everything back. She said she understood, and, although she didn't expressly say they donated the unwanted items, I feel she allowed me to believe so. I spent probably a good fifteen hours washing and loading clothing, as well as three hours driving and the gas required. After we dropped off our items at about one, we went through the store and picked out several items. I really wasn't too impressed. Most of the inventory was close to like-new quality, though not all of it, and most was Ardene's, Joe Fresh, or George brands. Keep in mind, I had Mexx, Old Navy, and H&M stuff in my items as well as high quality, new boys clothing. Most I set aside was for my two year old, but found next to nothing for my 8 year old daughter. So I went up to women who were working there and explained that we would be going to the nearby mall. They took right up to five o'clock to notify me on the app that my clothes had been sorted. We had spent all the money I had set aside for back-to-school but I was expecting at least or a hundred or maybe one fifty, expecting them to be highly discriminating. I had sold to consignment stores before and knew what to expect. I let the kids pick out a couple more items, put them on hold and zipped over, thinking it would be a quick in and out. I explained to the women that I was in a rush to get back to the mall before it closed at six. They had all my stuff still stacked in roughly the same place where I left it and brought over one small bin. The items in it were just a couple of the things I packed on the top. The woman rang up the items we had picked out earlier, being quite slow, and they totaled out to be over $170; they only gave me a credit for $60. I paid, already upset, feeling certain they didn't even go through the effort to go through my things, wasting my time and energy. The older woman asked if I wanted help out to my car with my stuff, with a condescending smirk. I said I thought it was going to charity. She replied they couldn't do that. So she started filling up the car in a sloppy fashion, burying my stroller, making no effort at being courteous. By the time I came out of the store, there wasn't room for the two boxes I was carrying. The woman came back out of the store; I had forgotten one of the bags of items I had purchased. She had a smarmy look on her face as I was trying to figure out how to get the last couple boxes into the car. I asked her if I could leave them out front until we finished at the mall. She said I had to take them with me and asked "what? Isn't there room?" I snapped there would have been if everything had been put back nicely. I quickly packed the stuff between my two kids, crowding my eight year old. I told the lady when I was packing that I was not happy at all. I had put in a lot of effort and expense to come down here and I didn't understand how they could possibly not donate the unwanted items to a charity. With a smarmy smile, she said they didn't do it anymore as there had been accusations they kept the rejected items and sold them instead of giving them away. I wonder if there was any veracity to those claims. I cut her off, explaining I didn't have time. This was a miserable experience. There are better consignment stores. This one stinks of a scam. Two of the sleepers I bought has holes in the toes. How is that for discriminating. This is one occasion where I wish I read reviews before doing business. And the owner can save her padded condescending reply. I read your reply. Talk about an old fake and switch. You misrepresent the situation. You don't reply to the big concerns. You aren't even a creative liar. You were there yet you had to review the video. Sure.

Great place to buy stuff for your kid. As a seller I think the process is a waste of time, too many steps to get a couple of dollars, I would recommend to donate the toys and clothes otherwise you will spend more time and gas going back and forth to get the money. Also, it would be good if you guys explain why you don't take some clothes when it was just fine, actually it was a handmade sweater.

Honestly for a kids store you really should be stroller friendly and have room through the aisles to get strollers through... Hey I read your response and while that's great. I felt kinda bad because when my kid fell asleep in the stroller, my kids dad and I were hitting the aisle with clothes. Normally I do use the carts...those were a good idea.

This is a fantastic local business. I ordered a Spring Essentials box from this store, for my teenage daughter. Not only did she love every article of clothing they chose for her, but it also included a shirt with her favorite Disney character on it! And they had no prior knowledge to that fact. I've been in the store a few times prior, and their selection from newborn to youth sizes is incredible!

Overall this store is pretty good, but when I tried to sell them an item they quoted me the price in $US. I pointed this out to them and showed them the price in $CAN on my phone for several Canadian sites and they wouldn't change it. It doesn't make a huge difference but I still think that's a bit cheap, especially when you are selling pricey equipment.

The owner is super rude. I’ve had a couple instances where she was unprofessional but my last and final straw was when my husband went into the store to pick up the clothes we dropped off because they said it would be an hour and we live out of town, so he went in to ask if we could grab our clothes and she very rudely raised her voice at him and totally embarrassed him in front of other customers. I won’t be going back we left the clothes and never even bothered picking them up because we no longer will support this business. An attitude like that will turn this place under soon enough.

As a new mom I was very disappointed with their selling service. I brought in huge totes of clothes to make space, and they only wanted several items. Taking the time to get all of the clothes together, folding them nicely, and bringing them in with a very young baby just to be sent back with all of the clothes you brought in. There was many things that were in good condition that they sent me back home with. One of the bins didnt even get looked through, it was folded and put in there the way I brought it in, and the worker told me “I dont want to make excuses but it was probably a busy day and we didnt have time to look through it” Its one thing to not take clothes because of their condition, but to not even go through the clothes a customer brings in is super frustrating! I do not recommend selling with Once Upon a Child, its a waste of time, better to just donate to a Salvation Army or give to people you know, which is what I ended up doing. When I left this comment on Once Upon a Child Nanaimos page, the owner actually used the information I provided and called my personal cell. She complained about my comment and to not make it public. She accused me of slander, although I was posting respectfully on experience.

They have a large selection of stuff and you can get some good deals. The last few items I've bought, I've found holes in. The prices are a little high for some things like $4 for a Walmart pyjamas that are $4 to buy new. It's a little too cramped to bring a stroller in but it's the only children's consignment store in town that isn't online so good if you need stuff the same day

Well this will be last time I bring in baby equipment/clothing. Time management is horrible from the time I brought in stuff till the time they were done! I walk in to see if any of its been looked, and they are just casually walking around slowly? Shouldn’t take 3 hours. I don’t live in nanaimo and Line ups are always busy and one cashier? My oh my... and I buy mostly all of my sons clothes from there and some just didn’t get any use, but they wouldn’t accept them? And they almost didn’t take a tummy time monkey mat that never came with a mat that I bought from Walmart and I had to tell the staff that was at the cashier that it never came with it,there is no attachment for a mat with!! How about instead of assuming something comes with it, look online next time. I’m very upset that they didn’t take most of the clothes I brought in! Some were still brand new with tags!!! And mostly bought from once upon a child but weren’t accepted!!! and also I was browsing through the shoes and some had holes! But can’t take any of nice onesies I brought it. I will say though I like prices and have never had a problem with the staff, always friendly. But the selling/bringing in stuff, I don’t agree with some

The selection of clothes are good. Some are well used and dirty, the prices are reasonable as this isn't a thift store. I found the customer service terrible, all most as if they were doing me a favour. If you want to get money for your items try selling privately first. I dropped clothes off at 12pm yesterday and came back at 4pm to pick up the unwanted items. They still were not finished. I asked if I could come back the next day and pick them up. I was told yes. I got a text at 7pm saying they were done. I came back at 10am this morning and was told I could only have a store credit as I was supposed to pick up items same day? Unbelievable. The whole system is screwy and if you have 7 hours of your day to waste, by all means, take your clothes there. But be sure to pick up same day!!!! Staff is also not very friendly or accommodating. Pretty disappointed with the way it’s run lately.

Their prices are resonable for most things. If its name brand no matter the condition it cost more. In regards to them buying stuff they are crazy strict and cheap. I brought in great pair of hardly used Jordans and they only gave 5 dollars, and that wasnt even for just the shoes it was two shoes and a pair of girls pants. We also brought in so many name brand clothes in BETTER condition then we found there and they still did not accept them.

My daughter & I went there twice last week and twice this week. Bought good amount there . Staff that was on seemed nice . Then yesterday we brought 3 bags of clothes and 1 bag of toys to sell, must clothes from H&M & old navy , toys were in very good condition . The staff that was on weren't the friendliest . They told me come back in an hour. I looked around store with my kids for a little bit then left to waste time b4 coming back. I came back to store b4 hour was up because my daughter wanted something from there , the staff said they just going over toys I brought in . To me I thought that was quick to go over all my stuff I brought in when they told me there were 2 other people ahead of me . So 5mins later they were ready for me and told me the blue tote is what they will keep and handed other bags to me & said " yea we picky with stuff " said there were stains and what not . Well I know a coat had s small stain and other clothes were in good condition. I don't think they went over our stuff goid. I mentioned we went to store & bought stuff b4 , I know stuff we bought were not gentle used . So basically left store feeling like slap in the face. Well value village will get our stuff & sell them over priced ;)

Such an amazing experience I usually sell to consignment stores. But that entails making an appointment and saving all the clothing until the season and then wait until it sells to get anything for it. I just dropped of all my daughters outgrown summer ,winter, Christmas dresses and halloween costumes in one load to Once Upon a Child Nanaimo it took them 45 minutes while I looked around and I got $436 in cash!!!! Plus so many clothes and shoes for a great price! Store is clean and the products are in great condition. I will definitely be back. Hands down the BEST children's store!! A must for all parents! Great staff too! ???????? also sign up for rewards I got a great coupon txted to me for my birthday and I will have 20% off next time because of the points I received from selling.

If you don’t live in north Nanaimo I wouldn’t bother bringing clothing in for them to buy. They look for high end stuff to turn over and sell for a high price instead of taking lightly used clothing and selling it for a second hand price… I spent more money on gas driving from out of town twice then I made because of their poor time management.Save yourself some time and donate to a volunteer thrift store where some of the money goes back into the community.

The website said no appointment needed so I took items in at 2:30 on a weekday. I was told by the flustered staff person it would take about 30 min to get to my items because of other big orders ahead of mine. They still weren't done when I came back 1 1/2 hours later. It took 2 hours to get it done and you can't leave it and pick up any unpurchased items the next day. They wouldn't take a new bathrobe because they don't take pyjamas but they take infant onesies?? They wouldn't take some jeans with rips in them because of the rips except they were like that when new as that is the trend. They need a better system in my opinion

Challenging and unfriendly when selling clothes and items. They have now switched to a mandatory check in on a mobile device to be able to sell them your clothing for cash which excludes those who: A. don't have a smartphone, B. don't have a well functioning smartphone, C. don't have lots of data to burn and cannot sign onto their wireless internet, D. people who aren't comfortable with the whole digital process (grandparents, conscience parents, etc)....perhaps just the kind of people who really need to sell their clothes back. When I had struggles with my slow and old smartphone, I was told to "get a new phone". Buying things is fine, although we won't shop there anymore, there is lots to choose from.

My first experience with Once Upon A Child was great. My mom had gone in a bought some items for my son, but I had to return a muddy buddy that was still in the package, but I picked out a few other items to do an exchange with. There was money left over, and they told me they could only apply it to a store credit, fine by me as I was planning to return. I have been in there a couple more times dropping off bags of clothes, neither which were a crazy amount. The first time it took almost 4 hours for them to contact me, the second time was almost 2 hours. I do not live in Nanaimo and had to find things to do to waste time while I was waiting for them to go through the clothes. Most of the clothing I brought in was in great shape, no stains, rips, holes or pilling, and mostly name brand. They rejected most of the items and kept a minimal amount. Complete waste of my time considering I have seen some things in their store that has lots of fading, pilling, stains, and even holes in them! Things I would not buy, even for $4.00. The two times I have brought clothes in, I always use the money I get back from the couple items they keep and put it toward other clothes for my son, any remaining money has been put on my "account" as a credit. However, the last time I was there I was told I could not receive any credit or money owning to me unless I have the receipts that showed I have a credit. Are you kidding me?? You have all my information on file, yet you expect already scatterbrain mothers to keep all the receipts that show there is a credit so they can receive what is owed to them, that is ridiculous! On top of it, almost every girl I have dealt with in there is unpleasant, rude, or condescending. What ever happened to customer service and treating others as you would like to be treated? There are other smaller businesses like this one that a far more accommodating and friendly.
