I have to say I have been really underwhelmed with the experiences. There are hidden gems but do not expect thift store prices. The same clothing items could be found for a fraction of the cost at true thrift stores. The buying aspect is very poorly planned out. I've accompanied many of my friends who have attempted to sell and something has been wrong with the clothes every time. What items they select often seems to be the specific employees taste and they almost seem to come up with excuses to not look through a bin of clothing. I've heard them say clothing wasn't clean enough, wasn't folded up to their standards, or they saw something wrong with a piece on the top so they didn't even bother looking. Every staff member I've encountered has been rude, arrogant, and acts like you aren't worth their time. if you're looking for inexpensive clothing check out another store in your area with actual thrift store prices

The absolute worst work experience ever. If u r looking for employment where u leave your dignity, self respect, and zest for life at the door then this place is for you. Management is less than unprofessional. Stefan manager / owner is arrogant and chauvinistic at best.

They pay you peanuts for your stuff and took over an hour and a half to tell me they were only wanting 4 items out of the two bags I brought in that included lululemon. They offered me $4 for a $220 jacket. Usually the items are overpriced and the store quite unorganized.

First of all you need to adjust your website because it states that you will take any gently used clothing. I brought in items from high brand name stores and get told there old, I’m disgusted with the fact that they had clothes there that were in worse shape then mine . Never returning or not recommending to anyone.

I had a very wonderful experience shopping at the Guelph location! Great atmosphere, great staff, great clothes and it smells good in there which isn't very common for second hand clothing stores so I applaud you all for that! :)

They price unreasonably high for a "thrift shop" even though it consists of some brand name clothing. Compared to the other Plato's locations I've gone to, such as Missisauga's and Scarborough, they need to lower their prices for used clothing. I brought in brand name clothing, lots with tags still on, trending in the teen-20 somethings and they didn't take them. Clothes were clean. The workers there are older and don't know what is "trending". Sad, since the clothes they have now are not "trending". Need to hire younger employees that know what style is in and what we are looking for in clothing. --- Edit: UPDATE: The employees still don't know what style is. If you look through their $2 clearance, sales, or even their racks, you would honestly question how they could purchase or sell something so ugly... Prices are unreasonable when they do cashback which i understand how their discounts work, but I honestly think that their employees don't have taste in clothing.

When I brought my clothes in, the store manager looked them over and made faces towards my clothing making me feel very uncomfortable and judged. She then only bought my jeans and rejected the rest of my clothes. Horrible customer service, would not recommend, there is better places.

High prices for really worn pieces... Staff were uninterested and unfriendly even after I started I'd never been there before. The racks are too stuffed full and noticed a lot of sizes in the wrong sections. Not worth the time sorting.

This is my new favourite clothing store in Guelph. Always walk out with more than I go in looking for, in a mostly good way. Really nice that I can find nice clothing at a second hand store. Quite a nice catered selection. Whoever decides what is allowed in seems to be pretty good at it. Most clothing at other second hand shops are mostly all adult fitted, but these seem to be designed for me. Keep up the great selecting work.

I don't understand why people need any sort of sales assistance as with it being a thrift store of sorts, it's not as if their size might be in the back! If you want personalized assistance, shop at a high end store then, the selfish entitlement attitude of some of these comments is baffling. I've bought lots from there, I will say that when selling to them, what they take seriously varies between what staff are there. I had a bag of mostly very nice and then some average ardene clothes and two denier leather jackets. They took virtually none of the nicer things, just the meh stuff and I sold the rest on kijiji for a hundred bucks. Was a little confused as to why the nicer items were actually turned down. I've gone in other times and the whole bag has been taken. So I don't know. Luck of the draw I guess

Pretty junky when I was in, but I have had good luck at other franchise locations. I don't really like supporting businesses that sell counterfeit merchandise like the cabinet full of fake Kylie Lip Kits.

I brought in three bags today and I’m always bringing clothes to Plato’s ...this time I noticed they didn’t even bother opening one of my bags. One of the girls I know who works there never buys from me because she doesn’t like me Natalie (I know her from high school) personal business shouldn’t affect my clothes being bought. As a business who didn’t even bother looking through my stuff (I know this because I purposely fold my clothes a certain way to tell) really disappointed and disgusted. I’m going to stop coming to the Guelph location. The Kitchener locations always serves well with a smile and takes their time thoroughly looking through clothes for quality.

This place used to be one of my favourite places to shop, but the new employees have ruined my shopping experience. Firstly, I walk into the store and I am ignored by all the employees, when I have things that I would like to sell. No one is there to sanitize my bin or ask me if I need help. If it was my first time there, I would have no idea where to go. Secondly, the staff don’t help you. I was standing in line, waiting like everyone else, and someone else joined me in line, and those people were served before me. I was completely ignored by the staff. Thirdly, the staff don’t take responsibility for their actions. One staff member wrongfully scaned my clothes, and I went back to get her to scan them correctly, two minutes later, and she denied it being her fault and blamed her other employees, when it was her who did it. Fourthly, some of their clothes really aren’t much cheaper than in store, and many clothes have holes and are bad quality. Yes, I know, it is a thrift store, but Plato’s closet has higher standards and have turned down clothes from me that look worn, yet I have found a multitude of clothes with holes on their racks. This store used to be a favourite of mine, but if I ever shop here again, it definitely won’t be at the Guelph location

Used to be a great place to shop, but the staff I dealt with on Saturday were horrible. No one covering change room line or cleaning the rooms so that someone could have a clean fitting room. When I went to tell the girls at the checkout counter there was a line I was looked at, ignored, and the cashier started chatting with the one sorting through clothes about getting high and watching into the spider verse... While she was holding a paying customers clothes lol.

It’s an okay place, some of the stuff in there is pretty dated don’t expect to sell much. You may be better off selling on kijiji if your stuff is nice as they only give you 50% of what they’re going to sell it for. The place has a lot of clothes and it’s a pretty small store. Can’t be in the same row as someone looking at the things across from eachother. Overall decent place, some employees are enthusiastic while others not so much.

Lots of selection. Lots of items in clearance too. This place is good for the whole family. We found lots to try on. Change rooms can get busy so take your time. I did find the cash area a little confusing as you’d have to go past others paying to get to a till and when people have a lot of items, it can get congested.

I brought 2 bags in today, the staff only took 20 minuets and return half of them back. Good job. I’m really satisfied of that lady who served me. But when the lady was busy to serve me, she asked another lady to help next customer, that lady really gave her a face and said she wants to have a break but ended she still went to help the next. And when I was waiting and look around, I found at least 3 white clothes with stains. That’s why I only gave you 4 stars ????

Uuuggh; I have been selling clothes and thrifting for a long time. This place gives you terrible cash back. In addition, there is no free wifi or bathroom use and the staff are not friendly. Few reasons why I do not visit here to often.

The store looked a bit messy/disheveled upon first entering. No staff could be found when I first entered and was waiting by the desk. When finally approached I allowed them the time to look over the clothing. Most, if not all of it, was designer clothing. As I walked around the store the items looked similar to what o had brought in. Sizes hard to find and seemed disorganized without the store and racks, and seemed to be very little variety with what was available. Hard to find anything in the store. I watched the woman sort through the bag without removing more then one item and actually taking the time to look at it at all. When I returned to speak with the lady at cash she stated all the styles where too old, and not what they where looking for. Felt like it was an utter waste of my time. Staff makes you feel unwanted and not welcome at the store. After this experience I will not be returning, and will not be recommending anyone else waste time there. *For staff that responded; it was about three weeks ago, it was the Guelph location, and no one asked to log my name.

I went to this location to sell a few things that I no longer wear. I had everything washed the day before. The girls were nice and friendly. Easy process. It took maybe 2 hours as there were other people selling their things ahead of me. So we went to the mall to shop around before heading back.

Trendy clothes but they need to sort through them better....I went to try on a dress that had, "bodily fluid" on the butt. Gross! I've heard other people complain about the same thing. I get it's second hand clothes, but it's not hard to check for that sort of thing. Totally disgusting. I'll be sticking to places like Smitten Boutique as I know they at least steam their clothes. Won't shop here anymore and wouldnt recommend.

I went to Plato’s closet on a Wednesday (Halloween night) at 6:45pm. Upon arriving, I saw a sign in the window that said only open till 7pm. It was a hand written sign and the store is usually open until 9pm on weekdays. I went in the store figuring I still had 15 minutes and the girl told me that the manager “called her and told her to close early tonight” so she wouldn’t go through my clothes I brought in (although there was still 15 minutes and there were 3 girls there working) and I’d have to go come back tomorrow. I was especially irritated cause I’m not from that part of Guelph so it took me 15 minutes to get there. Was sooo unprofessional and I’m Not buying from them again.

Employees seem like they’d rather be literally anywhere else. Awful encounter with staff and one staff member was even working the counter with massive hickies on her neck - not a good look; have some class. Not to mention everything is overpriced, especially for the tiny amount the store pays individuals for their clothes. If I could give 0 stars I would.

I love Plato's but they never have a good size selection at this location. So many clothes in size small and medium but barely anything in XL or above. When I try to sell my brand name, barely worn and in style clothes that are XL and 1X they don't take any of them. Yet they have a huge selection of size small clothes that are outdated and unknown or cheap brands. I've even brought in clothes new with tags and they won't take them and say they have too much stock. Then I go to look at the clothes in my sizes and they'll have 3 or 4 things on the rack. Other locations offer a better selection for all sizes and I'm hoping the Guelph location can do the same soon. I'd like to add that I visited the Burlington platos a few days after writing this with my same basket of clothes that I tried to sell at the Guelph location a few months back and they took basically everything in my overflowing laundry basket. Only 4 or 5 items left in my basket. They even took my brand new with tag items including a Lululemon bra and American eagle jeans. These are 2 things Guelph didn't take when I brought them in and I was shocked that they didn't want them.

Often customer services representatives don't make conversation anymore, so when she did, it really made my day! I would highly recommend hiring staff that know fashion brands. Girl looking at my stuff had no idea what Halston was or Ivy Park. Sold at The Patch right away! Get those staff some brand awareness. You’re missing out. I will say that they only took twenty minutes which is always nice.

Plato’s Closet Guelph is probably one of my favourite places to shop. I was reading through the reviews below and came across a recent one discussing her issue with the return policy. I have exchanged my purchases many times and each and everytime they are very reasonable about my situations. However in my case rather than this individual’s, I had my receipt and had returned it within that 7 days. The odd time I did not have the tag, but they negotiated the problem with me and made sure I was satisfied with the solution. If I asked for a manager or supervisor those in that position thoroughly talked me through their processes and I always left feeling satisfied with their help. I just want to state that the ladies who work at Plato’s Closet are just trying to do their jobs correctly by following their policy rules by meeting the customers needs at the same time. Policy rule is rule.. no store would allow an item to be returned without proof of purchase. I just felt I had to voice my opinion on that issue, just because I feel that review was very unrealistic and unreasonable. I have ALWAYS had a great experience shopping at this location, customer service is great!!????????

Edited on Dec 13th, 2018: Plato’s Closet cares more about making money and their policies than they care about their customers. I have a TNA sweater that I bought at a Plato’s Closet last month. It’s so small but I really wanted to get it because it’s warm and the pattern has reindeers on it. When I went into this location the other day, I found a medium sized sweater with the TNA brand and it is very similar to the one I got. However, they will only exchange or allow returns within 7 DAYS. They kept telling me that they are very strict with their policies. They are so inflexible to this, even if it means disappointing a customer. This really discouraged me from ever returning to this store, or any other Plato’s Closet. Why shop at a store that doesn’t show that they care about your business? Added on December 14th, 2018: Look at the response that the owner left me below. Such a generic response. They are trying to cover up the fact that their customer service sucks. Exchanging it would not be a loss of money on their side, but instead they choose to go the route where it costs money on my side by asking me to sell it to them again. I also must add that I’ve spent hundreds of dollars at Plato’s Closet locations. I still stand by what I said in my review. I’m not letting them walk all over me because they are a business. Don’t shop here. It’s not worth it.

I loved this place until today. I needed to exchange but I misplaced my bag. I was 4 DAYS passed the 14 day exchange policy and they wouldn't do it. To add to that, the girl at the cash was rude and snarky. Guess I'm out $50 now. So pathetic.

I am very disappointed in this place. I took my clothes there for resale. The clothes were new and laundried as per their instructions. I believe the girls working there just looked at me and in 2 minutes refused to take any clothes. I was in the store watching, and I saw the girl didn't even bother to look at all of the clothes. She saw a couple ontop and messaged me to pick up the clothes. I believe its my ethnicity that she refused to take any clothes. She said they were too formal.. I had a fall white coat with original tag never worn, in a clear plastic bag from the dry cleaners. She said they wouldn't take any clothes. I am not quite sure how this place operates by being biased.
