We could have spend hours perusing the selection of used (&new) books to be found in this shop! At the back there were records, for those seeking the sweet sounds of vinyl. I came home with a birding/illustration guide and a designer book, Mike found a novel ... honestly, we could have come home with dozens but limited ourselves so we'd have an excuse to come back!

While their books on mythology aren't very many, these two I got at Beggars costed me just over $4! They gave me one for free since it had been there a while with no one willing to buy it! This is my third time buying books from them, and as per usual, it was a wonderful experience.

Fortunate for me I have friends that love books and I love books and while out and about we checked out Beggars Banquet Books. What a hidden gem in the town of Gananoque (check out the bakery a few doors down while you're there ~ amazing scones). I could literally get lost in a book store ~ I love the feel, the smell, the experience of reading. I'm old school ~ give me a real ~ I can hold it and keep it if I love it book. This store does not disappoint. The owners are helpful and the ambiance is perfect. (I'm not sure what the story is behind the name ~ however it is well worth checking out).

What I assume were the owners chatted with both of us about books we have, books we've read and books on our to read list. I love littk book stores like this and it was wonderful.

The owner “Tom” was extremely confrontational and rude. He uses very rude language with young ladies. Store smells awful, could just be the owner though. Do not shop here, overpriced and rude staff.

Worst customer service I've ever seen. Was told by owner he was to busy to educate me when I asked about some dolls he had in display. Later I was looking at Folio books had one ready to purchase. I put one away and owner is literally at my side reshelving books. Knocks into me, Lord knows why I needed a hip check. Absolutely worst customer service I have experienced in a book store. I walked out never to return ever.

Love this bookstore! Offering both new and used books, with a great selection of Canadian authors. The owners are able to offer recommendations if wanted, but browsing through the curated rows is an option as well. During the extended lockdown I missed visiting the store, but they have added online shopping if you can't make it in person. Terrific protocols in place to make sure the in-person shopping experience is safe for all.

This is for the record part of the store. The selection was nice and my partner found a harder to find record which was a pleasant surprise. However, the owner must have been in a bad mood that day because he freaked out when we removed one of the records from it's sleeve to check it's condition. We also asked him to play a sample of it which frustrated him further. When we pay more than $50 US for a record, we want to know it's condition. I guess we were supposed to take his word that the scratch would play through and not skip. He has what he thinks is the condition labeled on most records. I've never had any record store owner in Canada or the US complain about checking a vinyl or asking to have it played. He also made a comment to my partner that all "the guys" would have killed for the record. Apparently only men are into metal. I get the feeling that someone else priced the record, accidentally put it out on the floor, and that he was upset because we discovered it. He also made me feel uncomfortable as if he was watching to see if we would check on the condition of any more records. Again, I've never experienced this in any other record store. I'll give it a star for the selection and the woman up front was nice and friendly when we checked out. If it weren't for my partner wanting the record, we would have walked out without purchasing anything. It's sad, because we liked the selection and would have returned each time we drive through the area. We like to buy and collect records and would have certainly purchased more from him. We will not be back to the store.

The gem of Gananoque! The owners of this lovely bookstore were able to help me find some wonderful childrens' books which were gender and ability inclusive. They certainly know their authors and books well :) I only wish I had more time to browse - well worth a trip to Gan!

It's a lovely looking store. But the male owner could use a lesson in being nice to customers. He was rude when my boyfriend n I took in some of my old books. Yes I know that they had dust on them n I even said that before I showed him and yet he was still rude n ignoreint to us. I will never shop there or try to shop there again.

Worst service ever had to wait behind a piece of Christmas garland before she would let us in and then informed us that we had to use hand sanitizer to enter saying its law i kindly declined and informed her its not law so she wouldn't let us shop because of that.

They sell books. If you can get past the lack of customer service, you'll probably find a book you like. If you have to audacity to ask a question, you'll quickly lose any desire to spend your money there. 2 year update: I've heard from many other people saying almost identically the same thing. So doesn't sound like anything has improved.

My absolute favorite bookstore! I love being able to go in and have a small chat and they have a recommendation and I love it! You get the personal touch here by a business owned in your community. I love the selection of books that they have as well - there truly is something for everyone at the store. They also have choices between new and used books depending on your preference. Oh and don't forget to check out the vinyl selection! Tons of records!
