Until this morning, my review was not going to be a positive one. HOWEVER - with the way I was treated today, it changed everything. I had an unpleasant experience that was corrected quickly once the right people were involved. We had come in one evening, it was extremely busy, but we got 2 pairs of shoes and needed tights to which "the girl" looked at my daughter and passed us the 2 colors we needed. No sizing, nothing. I went ahead and trusted this as when we did this a year ago, the lady who got us the tights got us the perfect size with no sizing required, so I thought it would be the same. We got home, pulled a pair of tights out of the package, and they clearly were not going to fit. We didnt even try putting them on. We compared sizes with her current pair that fits, and it was the same. Ladies S/M - but the new ones were absolutely not going to fit. (Different brand) So we took both pairs back the next day, and "the girl" exchanged the unopened package no problem but would not exchange the opened package. They werent worn. I had to buy another pair of tights. I said they should have samples out to size kids with and "the girl" told me that did have them. The sad thing is, this was "the girl" that gave us the tights the day before. Why were we not offered a sizing?? She was super rude and did not care to correct the situation, instead let me leave the store fuming. She said I can call the owner if I wanted. Thanks for your help. So I went in. I was greeted by a wonderful lady and when I said I was in to talk to the owner, it was her. I explained what happened and the way she treated me and handled the situation was NOT AT ALL how I was expecting given my experience and reading other reviews. She was COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDING, and completely corrected the situation with the tights. She even looked at them and said they looked like kids tights, not ladies. TO THE GIRL THAT HANDLED THIS WRONG (aka Rainbow Not-So-Brite): Shame on you!!! You probably cost this place a lot of lost business because if it wasnt for the owner stepping up how she did - I would not step foot back in this place, simply because of YOU. TO THE OWNER: Thank you for being a compassionate person. Myself and my 2 dancing daughters (gymnasts too) will be back to your location as you deserve another chance. We will just avoid Rainbow Brite.

At first I had a really nice lady helping find my daughter's dance items with us. Then we went to line up to get her fitted for tap shoes. My husband works very long hours so I am basically a single mom, because of this I have to bring my 1 yr old son with me wherever I go. Well, as my daughter (who's 4) and I were waiting in line my 1 yr old got tired and sat down on one of the dance bags in the corner. I didn't see him. A large woman comes over and YELLS at him so loudly that the whole store turned to see what was going on. He's ONE and she was reaming him out. I spent over $200 at this place and we get treated with no respect and are embarrassed. How DISGUSTING. I will NEVER be back again, and I'll make sure that I tell everyone I know in the dance industry about this pathetic customer service experience.

Meadors Musings

After many poor interactions with other dance stores in and around Edmonton I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was blown away by the service, professionalism and compassion. Richard helped us out and there was no judging, no talking down to us and no snooty attitude that I have come to expect because of other stores. He cared about what made my daughter feel comfortable, and thus feeling more confident. He went out of his way to talk with my daughter and to make sure she was happy with the outfit and slippers and not just telling her what she needed. Thank you On Stage Dance Wear for being there for us, and I look forward to making this our store of choice for all our dance needs.

Lots of shoe sizes available, but parking may be a bit difficult if there are a lot of customers. They are knowledgable of the Edmonton area dance schools and requirements. Prices are also competitive

Fantastic! These guys are better for dance than Ryan Reynolds is for Canada. Canadian icons like William Shatner or Celine Dion. There is no other place to buy anything dance related. Very professional.

I took my daughter for a pointe shoe fitting and the staff was wonderful! They were friendly and personable from the moment I moved the appointment on short notice that morning. They greeted us with smiles and friendly chat. The lady that did her fitting was pleasant and cheerful. She was helpful in finding the right fit for my daughter. My daughter wanted to buy Pro Pads and staff made sure that it was ok with her teacher first. Prices are right and we got an extra couple of elastics put in the bag just in case. All around was a great shopping experience.

My husband and I have never been treated with such little respect. We walked in and no one greeted us - not a great start. We went to the back where the shoes were and this older woman was helping a little girl with her shoes. As we approached the area, we were yelled at by that woman. She yelled at us to give her a minute because she was very busy and her hands are full. We weren’t sure if we were allowed to even look at the shoes. Then, after 10 minutes of her huffing and puffing (she actually yelled at the little girl too), I just asked if we could look at the men’s shoes. Again, we were yelled at. We left after this. Hard to support a local business when they have zero knowledge of customer service.

I observed overt racism at this store this morning from the woman who I believe is the owner. The woman in line before me was a typical dance mom who happened to be of African descent. The owner made horrible comments to me about how the woman probably had "leotards stuck in her purse" because that was what "that type" did. I confronted her on her blatant racism and left without a purchase. I hope other dance parents will join me in boycotting this store. There is no room for racism in our society.

Disturbing how the owner is rude to customers and talk to her staff while in her computer as though customers can't hear. We were told that we could return tap shoes if they didn't fit. Not an hour later we brought them back, they didn't have the larger size we needed, and would only give store credit. When we tried to reason with her she just rudely tapped her gnarled finger nail on a hand written sign that mentions in store credit only. She said nothing, just rapped on this sign. Would never go back.

I work 2 jobs, to find time to go into the store is real difficult. I had called to double check if the items i required were in stock. I felt rushed to quickly get off the phone- then once I asked to put the items on hold for I would like to come by the same day and purchase I was laughed at: "ha ha, we have everything in stock I am not searching around the store for all those items again" I work in customer service, i completely understand the rush of back to school and back to dance routin can be quick demanding but because of that response: I will not be shopping here.

I am a 13 year old girl I love getting my dance supplies at onstage they are always polite to my face and they have everything I need but I am not a small girl I am a bit on the bigger side and even though I have been going there for 3 years I have always noticed some rude looks when I can't find my size and have to ask for help

Terrible service. I brought my daughter to buy dance body suit. But they are not in stock. The salesperson said the body suit will be in stock the week after. Then we went to the store again the week after, it is still not available. The salesperson was very inpatient. It made us feel she hates her job and hates her customers. Again, I called within a few days. The salesperson on the phone was very rude and inpatient. Terrible service.

First impression online: BAD REVIEWS First Impression at store : EXTREMELY RUDE SIGN ON DOOR Terrible place. Came in here the buy my daughter an outfit (only cause it's the only store that sells it & with previous reviews of how horrible this place is I really had my hesitation) To be greeted on the door with a nasty sign along the lines of "watch your kids...." Is that necessary? It's a clothing store, let's not pretend it's anything but that. Then to read about the owner yelling at a young child for sitting on the floor. WILL NOT EVER RETURN AND WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS STORE.

In 2005, I visited this store 3 times, on seperate occasions, in hopes to buy a pair of ballet flats and pointe shoes. I was taking an adult ballet class to supplement my dance training (not ballet). My lovely instructor at the time encouraged me to further my training with some pointe work. This store was the closest to where I was living then, and so I decided to visit the store. I walked in one weekday, in between classes and training, and I was the only customer in the store. I asked for assistance to try on some ballet flats and was down right refused. The woman questioned me about my dance class and if I was really a dancer. I mentioned my instructors name and she said that she 'knew' her and didn't believe me that I was really under the tutelage of said instructor. I didn't want to feed any more rudeness from her so I politely thanked her and walked out to which she sarcastically said "bye". The next visit, I decided to try my luck again. This time I was able to purchase a ballet flat but the service with riddled with absolute rudeness and added judgements! I asked if I could be fitted for pointe and she scowled at me and said I wasn't fit for it and that I needed to make an appointment for a fitting even when I was, again, the only customer in the store. Appalled and befuddled, I walked out with my feelings hurt. My third and final visit, a few months later, was a reluctant one but I conceded to going back only because I was accompanied by my fellow dance colleague, who knew about my terrible accounts with the store, yet said she will vouch for me and stand by me if I were to be denied service again. I was needing some spare elastics and supplies to repair my dance flats. And, I was also a few weeks away from moving to another country then, therefore I was desperate to get 'some things' at the very least, rude server notwithstanding. This time, even with my good friend's help (and to her disgust) our last efforts to buy a pointe shoe was in vain. This happened 12 years ago now and I am writing this retrospectively. What inspired me to write about this encounter was because I was recently served at a dance store (in Sydney, Australia - where I now live) with such politeness and with no judgements, no interrogations, no validations about my dance history, no rude eye rolling, no sarcastic remarks, no denial of service but with pure interest and willingness to help. This service was a stark contrast to a distant memory I had 12 years ago in this store and it sparked a google search for this store. It's just a shame that I had to travel half way around the world just to get a pointe shoe (I kid!). But I am not surprised to see such negative reviews from other patrons, till today. What I am surprised to see is that this store is still in business after all these years? Thought it would have a red 'Permanently Closed' status on google. Oh if only google reviews existed 12 years ago then I, and many others, WOULD NOT HAVE RECOMMENDED this store! Save your dignity and find another.

Great Customer Service. Brought my 8 yr old and 5 yr old. My 5 yr old wasn't feeling the best so while I was comforting her the wonderful lady helping my 8 year old daughter ensured she was taken care of by making sure the sizes were fitting as they should. She even pulled the sale items for her to try on without being asked. Saved me at least $40 I will be back.

If you need anything related to dance, this should be the store that comes to mind. They are truly amazing to deal with and they spend the extra time to make sure everything is perfect before you leave. Their new store (upstairs by United Cycle) is lovely and extremely well stocked. 100% reccomend On Stage!

On Stage is a great place to get dance shoes for your kids, and basic dance supplies for adults. Because it's a smaller store, sometimes it selection for adults can be a bit limited. But, I've been getting my dance supplier here since I was a kid. While I have had AMAZING service from the staff here, I know others have had terrible ones. If you have a bad experience, I suggest coming back another day or asking to deal with another staff member. That's really the main downside to On Stage.
