Here you will see all the information of real people like you who consume the products and services of Once Upon A Child (Costumes) near Brantford (Canada).
As of day this firm receives a score of 2.8 over 5 and the rating is based on 102 reviews.
You may have noticed that the average of ratings that it reaches is average, and it is based on a large number of reviews, so we may be pretty sure that the valuation is quite accurate. If there are many people who bothered to value when they've done well with the business, is that it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to set reviews when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Costumes belongs to the category of Children's clothing store.
Good place! Best place to get children's clothes !
Staff didn't seem even moderately interested in helping us find what we needed. Nobody greeted us when we came into the store, even though there were about 5 staff members up front. Also highly disappointed that they don't have a "preemie" clothing section. We asked if they carry preemie clothes, and the response was "sometimes we have some in the 0-3 month section, you just have to look through it all".....gee thanks. Having a preemie is stressful enough. Who has time to sort through racks of clothing looking for a preemie onesie? I certainly don't....I looked for about two minutes and then promptly decided to walk out of the store. Won't be returning to this location.
Great for getting cheaper kids clothes and products, especially since they go through them so quickly. Trying to sell stuff back is a waste of time, they are very cheap in what they pay. Even when it was something I bought from them for $50 a few months before and returned it in cleaner condition they wanted to offer me $5 for it.
Tons of very reasonably priced used items!!
Great place to save money on stuff for the kids.
The clothing is decent and the staff member who helped me was actually really nice (which is why two stars instead of one) but the manager is something else. I had a coffee in hand and no vehicle and she told another employee to tell me to take it out of the store. Then when I said that I don’t have a vehicle to go put it in, she said I can leave the coffee in the entrance of the store while I shop and was quite quite rude about it saying, “Sorry the rules are the rules” (I understand rules are rules but telling me to put it where it can get knocked over or thrown out is not ok... not to mention the place she told me to put it was FILTHY... there is something to be said about the spirit of the law vs the letter of the law, or even being nice enough to offer letting me put it behind the counter). I ended up calling my husband to come and pick up the coffee. I watched the manager the entire time I was there, as she would smirk and make faces at customers and employees, make fun of other employees by rolling her eyes at them, sighing real big, she would bark at the other employees to do things, tell her employees to tell customers coming in about the sales (as if she couldn’t do it herself as she was RIGHT THERE), never made eye contact with anyone, treated others as if she was above them... You get the idea. Then as I’m checking out and I show I have a coupon, the manager said to the nice employee who was helping me “You need to check the system, you can’t trust the customer's phone.” RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. I understand it needs to be checked in the system but why are you treating me like I am a liar? Like I would intentionally rip you off? I'm not ok with being accused. What happened to the customer is always right? What world do you live in that you can treat a customer with such disdain and disrespect and still have a job? With all the other reviews on here, how do you still manage this place?
Amazing prices, friendly staff (most of the time) and incredible selection. Will be shopping here for my kids... at least until they care about fashion :-D
Huge selection but sometimes the prices are outrageous/insane! Select few staff members are what I would consider friendly. Some staff barely acknowledge your existence. They seem to take hardly anything when you bring it in.
Incredible quality selection, friendly and helpful staff, so fun to shop here!!
Seems more chaotic than their previous location
We came, we saw and we spent!!!!!
if you are looking for used items for a baby, ita the place to go. they have toys, strollers, bassinet, toilet trainers, and a ridiculous amount of clothes and Shoes available. they also have new items as well and the prices are not too expensive.it is a little cramped,in there though for them to get all the items in the rows
I had an issue with my order and they went the extra mile to fix it in less than 24 hours. Great customer service!
Can bring old, good toys, children's shoes, clothes, etc to sell
Great prices on children’s clothing.
Great experience at this location. Friendly staff and a great selection.
yes. great place, nice people ect.
It was clean and nicely organized! The staff were friendly.
After reading how rude staff is and how ridiculous it is to sell something. I'm going to pass on this store.. No Thanks
So I had shopped at the store before covid19 hit and this was only my second time going there, the only good thing about the store was the quality of the childrens clothing. It wasnt very welcoming as the staff were all talking when we walked in, got dirty looks when we began to ask for help with finding a certain size. I would recommend getting a bigger place the aisles are so small and also more staff that have positive attitudes along with customer service experience.
Best place for kids clothes, very clean and organized. So far I've only bought, not sold any clothes.
Very good and reasonable price, staff is very helpful
This is such a great idea! It's helps us save money by trading in gently used clothes for money to buy new ones!
Horrible staff. Rude and not friendly. Will never shop here again.
Great staff, good quality products.
The best location!
Terrible. Clothing is decently priced, but for second hand? No way! They buy there baby gates from Walmart and sell them as Final Purchase. They know they’re ripping you off, they just don’t care.
They have a large selection of clothing, not as much other items for children such as toys, etc. The store is clean and well organized. The prices were decent and they also buy gently used items.
To start the doors are very inaccessible and no wheelchair/accessible button too open to door. Secondly, noone greets you. The place is really filthy, dusty, messy. The staff are really rude and the fat lady with brown short hair needs to get an attitude adjustment. There was an item which had music notes on the ears and they put a battery in to see if it works. They said it is supposed to be like that. then I asked to see it. ten I tried to press them and they had things click inside them but it didn't function. so I told them look there is supposed to be music. And then finally another girl said, ok so if it was working it isn't now. So then I asked if I could have a reduction because it is regular price. the fat brunette lady shouted "NO"! my mom bought it anyways, but seriously a toy so filthy and malfunctioning shouldn't be sold anyways. Then they were all making fun of me after that saying why don't we just give everyone anything they want for free!! This place is just a waste of time and money! I sold them 9 pieces of clothing and they only gave me $8.10. RIP OFF!!! I also bought a stack of foam squares to put on the floor and I found that at least 3/4 of the alphabet and numbers were missing. We were charged $8.50 for 9 squares. in Walmart I bought 36 squares for $24. That means, per square this place is charging more than Walmart!!! Also the insides of letters and numbers to block the space were missing too!!! Such horrible scan artists!!
Good staff clothes are a bit pricey
Everything is good quality. It is my favourite place to buy clothes for my wee onr
Lots great options for all kids ages ☑️ a must for anyone with kids. Always great inventory of products to select from.
The person on their Instagram that replies and handles payment/and sales is very rude and unprofessional. I don't usually buy from their Burlington location, only the Hamilton one mainly due to distance as Burlington is farther away from me, but also due to the fact that whoever they have running their instagram on their Hamilton page is respectful and has manners. They take their time with each customer, replying to their questions and concerns and doesnt just rush payment without answering them and treating them like a actual person. I just purchased something from their Burlington store and this is the 3rd time I've spoken with someone who has absolutely no manners nor respect, I'd post photos but I won't want to embarrass that person although she belittled me it feels. I have more respect than her it seems. I have questions and am a customer, yet she/he felt it was ok to rush me and tell me that it's either a "yes or a no" answer she wants. I bought a dress and was so rushed to send payment I couldnt even see there were stains on it. I then asked them about it whether or not it was a treated stain and what kind of fabric material it is (relevant to see whether or not I can actually treat the stain myself which I had planned to do). Then she told me to answer her fast if I want it or not and that it's either a yes or a no. I didn't appreciate that at all. Perhaps they should have another person managing their instagram/social media with customer service skills, manners and respect.
Great second hand kids clothing and toy store. This location is fairly large, they have a huge collection! You do have to spend time looking through the items to find the ones you like. Very friendly and helpful staff!
Nothing to like about. Very unprofessional staff and waste of time.
Fake... fake... fake. I don't know based on what they accept or refuse the items. Last week I brought many items and they accept little of them and told me the other are unknown ( the brands were.... Carter's and children's place and Gymboree). Today I have some other items and they didn't accept them even there were some shirts similar as the others they accepted last week.
The best location I've ever been to, well organized/clean/lots of selection. Always check out their sale days, you'll save a ton.
Great deals and very nice staff.
There is such a great variety of baby, toddler and kids clothes. I love that they have special events for seasonal clothing, like halloween and Christmas. It is great to have a place where you can get lightly used items for babies, toddlers and kids who outgrow clothing and toys fast.
I have been in a lot of these stores and this one is the best thus far. Clean not over stocked we'll organized. Staff could be a bit nicer
Great selection, neat & tidy compared to others.
Always a super long wait to get clothes priced. Waited for 35 minutes and the staff spent so much of the time just chatting, even though I was standing in the front just waiting for them. Normally I don’t mind stuff like this, but i could tell they really didn’t value my time at all.
Some items are good price but there are also some other items that are still a bit high for a used item.
Great to trade certain baby stuff but tend to be fussy and very seasonal with their choices.
All the time i bring things they have never buy it.. once i send them pic of product before going to store. They said yes i mean they were preety sure about buying but didnt buy at all. It was the perfect barely used products. So i wasted time going in there nd going back there to take it again..
Great deals, all things considered the store is decently organised and maintained as best they can.
Nice place to find discount gently used Children's clothing
Best OUAC location by far, great selection even for boys. Now that they've expanded again, it's worth the trip for sure. I have sold there and you get very little $$ for your items, but still worth it if you just want to unload a bunch of stuff.
Great selection!
Great value and prices
Bad experience with staff at this store. The stores front door is less than 15 feet from where our car was parked and our child was passed out asleep (Dont worry Mom was inside the car with baby while I shopped). We needed shoes for him on this day and I was happy to find something I really liked. Two employees stood behind the counter, I approached the desk and asked if I could put them on him to see if they fit, getting him out of the car seat and waking him would not be good at the moment. I was told "No, you cant just walk into Winners or Sears and take shoes off the shelf, and take them out of the store you have to pay for them". I pointed out the window our little one was 25 feet away from the checkout and 15 feet from the front door. I asked " Could I please have a little customer service here, he is only right there, you can walk me to the car" .... Nope they would not help, I had to pay for the shoes walk the 25 feet try them on and return them if they did not fit... OK girls behind the counter, you are not Winners, you are not the Bay or Sears or any other big box store... Your store should be a much more intimate experience and interactions with customers should be far different then shopping at a warehouse style box store. Shopping in a smaller venue like the store your employed is supposed to be a different experience, thanks for blowing it, Cambridge is just up the street, we will go there.
First time visiting Once Upon A Child and found it had a great selection for children of all ages. Found a few sweaters and onesies for my son which was great!! Checking out on the other hand was a different story. I really didn't feel as though the cashier that cashed us out liked her job. Not once did she smile through the transaction or use an enthusiastic tone. I know not everyone loves their job but would it have killed her to crack a smile? Say have a nice day?
Lots and lots of clothes at great prices. Never had to buy new children's clothes.
Great value.
Great prices. Friendly staff.
horrible service took 3 hours for like 10 items
Nice place to buy baby and kids stuff. You can bring old used baby items and if they are good condition and pass safety examination they pay you , little money but still something.
No baby change table in the bathrooms here, fyi to mom's shopping with infants and babies . . . Although there are small urinals for young boys ????
Awesome place
Good inventory, well organized, clean store with helpful, friendly staff.
Had a great first time experience purchasing clothing for my child. Staff were friendly. I will definitely return
This place is packed full of items, so it gets crowded at times. Especially around the counter area. Great place for baby items. The staff is so-so. They seem to just be there. The wait to check out usually takes a while. Some hood prices and some that are not so good.
I wish I know this place when my kids are young.
This store is one of the most difficult and odd OUAC stores I've visited; and I've been to a number of them in the U.S and GTA. All the toys were bagged up so my child could not even try them out to see if they worked (they are second hand after all). WHenever we took an item off the shelf we were told off because of 'safety'. And whatever of the few toys on the floor I gave to my 18mo to occupy himself with while I shopped the shop floor assistants took them from him and put them back without even saying a word to me! How rude! It's just a kid... how am I meant to shop whilst being surrounded by toys if he can't touch anything? Any toy store lets you play while the parents shop- that is kind of the point. All they had was a dodgy looking play area fenced in by some structure that I had to literally clamber over to get my child in (no doors). Where's the health and safety in that?! This branch needs to be looked into. Odd goings on. Very unpleasant experience. I gave all my business to Peek a Boo next door which was way friendlier.
We love this place. All of our kids' clothes come from here, many times we find brand new clothes. This is one of the best places to get new or gently used kids clothes or toys.
Very clean and organized
great place to get rid of old baby / children stuff
I have been going here for 4 years, and even though they have changed location to expand, the customer service seems to have gotten worse. Some of the new employees carry way too much attitude, and they have no idea how to deal with a customer.
Great store. Lots of stuff.
I don't know what I'd do without this place! All of the clothes we get here are in great condition! It's the best!
Absolutely love this place and their new location is so much bigger! They have a huge selection, friendly staff, tons of toys and the shelves are always organized and easy to navigate. So much easier to find clothes here compared to other stores, even children's stores that have a pitiful selection of boys clothes compared to girls.
This is a good place to go if you do not have children with you, don't want any interaction with staff, and just want to quickly buy an item and leave. The store seems to be poorly laid out and very cramped, with very close quarters with other customers and many dead-ends. Plus side: good selection of clothing, which is well priced. Negative side: all other aspects.
Good prices and opportunity to clear the shelves at home. Thank you for being.
Bought winter clothing for my 19 month old daughter. Most of the clothing was second hand but a surprising number were brand new with their tags on still. However we we're paying used prices. Kids grow too fast and we have actually had extra items go un-used and sold them here along with used items. Great service for a fiscally intelligent family.
Stinks in there and staff is rude...dont ask a question you will get a dirty look. Will not be back!
Very organized with a good selection of gently-used clothing for children of all ages, toys, and baby equipment. Lots of seasonal sales!
I have worked at once upon a child before at a different location so I know we bit about how It all works. I called this location looking ror dance Wear for my daughter who ever I was taking to was very rude , short and impatient with me . She took downy number and said she would calle back . Well she never did. I went in today and brought in items got my items back and it looked as though nothing was touched and only selected a few things to make me happy. Working prior at a different once upon a child location o had really good hopes for this one but I find the womem who work here Are not very friendly. Next time I need something il make my way down to a diff once upon a child location or just pay full price.
Terrible staff.
Don’t waste your time here go to Hamilton or a different location to sell your items. They didn’t take perfectly good name brand items and offered a very low price for what they did take.. Hamilton is way better!!!
Great prices Staff was kind and welcoming Good for parents with kids because they grow to fast
Found almost everything I was looking for. Great prices on summer clothes!!!
Kinda snoby to be honest and higher prices then other once upon a child stores.
(Translated) They have everything in the store organized and the people who attend the place are very friendly (Original) Tienen ordenada todas cosas de la tienda y las personas que atienden el lugar son muy amables
Very good variety and very good prices
All the staff does is talk, they make customers wait a very long time to get your stuff priced. My recommendation: go to the Cambridge store instead, much better all around.
Unfriendly staff -- store is a mess
Great place to get "gently used" clothing for kids. They have other things such as toys, books, DVDs, etc... but I don't have any experience with that aspect. My wife and I have bought many things for our little one from here, and also sold a few things to them for a few dollars. We've purchased dresses, pants, shirts, shoes and even soccer cleats. Plenty of selection. The only complaint I have is that sometimes it feels like they have too much stock and it gets a little cramped and difficult to find things. There are ALWAYS great deals to be found here. You just have to look around.
Generally quite pleased with my experiences at this store.
Friendly staff and good deals. Children's play area recently disappeared so that's a bit of a downside.
This store is very crowded, I had a lot of difficulty navigating the store with my stroller. It also send to have less selection than others I've been to.
Terrible. Would never go there again; the staff is snotty and very rude. No customer service at all.
Really BAD- DO NOT GO- There is no zero option- Would 100% give a zero... Staff are very rude, Items are over priced. Staff think they know everything but they don't. Brought stuff to sell- They offer great and basically new stuff for $1 each or less. Never GOING AGAIN. DO NOT GO- PLEASE they'll ruin your day
variety for needy
It's the way to reuse children's clothe
Used children's clothing for cheap
I absolutely love this place. Very friendly staff and the selection is really good. I tell all my friends to go here.
A really fantastic place to go. This place is a *must* for parents who need kids great, clothing or equipment. They have plenty of stock, clothing, books, shoes/boots, toys, gates, strollers, highchairs, dvds and bedding for infants toddlers and kids. The staff are pleasant and really helpful and they take the time to have things reasonable organized and sorted. Parking is available and they can be found in the strip by mall beyond the TD tucked in a corner across from the grocery store and McD's. Wheelchair accessible and they do take your donations.
Great prices and quality
All of the used stuff was in great shape, there were some awesome deals and the staff were great!
This place in Burlington is bigger than the one in Oakville, there is more space in between the isles, and the choice is slightly better, the books section is impressive. Plato’s closet is next door - that’s convenient! Staff is friendly and professional. Thank you.
Great selection, nice staff
Great prices of course. Items are in good to fantastic condition. Lots of toys, gear and clothes for any age. A real wallet saver.
Great for selling and buying once they outgrow their clothes.
3 out of 28 reviews goes to show how bad the service is in this store. Three stars is not deserved at once upon a child Brantford. Worst customer service I have ever had.
It is closed
clean and pretty organized. used children clothing.
brought in some clothes, walked out with some clothes and $13.50 in cash!
Lots of clothing and toys to choose from in good condition. They also take clothes and toys for money but they are very picky about what they will take.
I found it has a great selection, however its a bit on the expensive side.
All parents should shop at places like this. Except if everyone did, where would the clothes come from to begin with????????
Great sales and selection of gently used kids clothing.
Very affordable and like new clothing. Staff is nice! Not as much of a selection as bigger location.
Good bargain place. The smell in the store can be improved.
Great place to keep your growing child clothed on a budget. Huge selection and regular sales.
Nice place but not like the one in Oakville
Great selection on baby clothing..... and the prices are so reasonable. Staff was very friendly
This place is amazing I come here all the time and there is great service! Also, I love the variety of cloths and I love how there are so many sizes????
Always find what I need at a great price and in great condition. Many items still have the tags on!
By far the worst once upon a child I've been to. Their manager is rude and every time I go in she's lecturing the staff and is very awkward for customers. Also we tried selling stuff and we could hear the one girl saying "why even bother bringing this in", which was rude when the whole store can hear you and doesn't lend to a very inviting selling atmosphere. We live in Brantford and I'd rather drive to Hamilton or Cambridge than deal with the staff at this location. I suggest going elsewhere.
Ladies are unnecessarily rude, they snicker and giggle and talk smack about items people are trying to sell. So unprofessional and they try to rip you off by offering next to nothing for brand new items. Go to Hamilton, it's way better than Brantford ????
Love this location. Always well organized and clean. Great staff.
Good selection for buying, they take very little when selling (even some immaculate clothing gets passed). People working there are nice.
mean workers!!!
Great service, good source for parents with small children.
I love shopping here...great staff and great finds!!!
Strange policy on taking back their own clothes, even when the tags are still on. Be warned.
Staff is great. I’ve noticed a huge rise in their pricing.
I called ahead and asked about a jogging stroller they posted on their Facebook page. I made clear I was referring to the red jogging stroller and mentioned the name. I asked about the price and was told it was $125. When I got there after a 20 min drive, the sales associate had reserved a completely different single stroller (not even a jogging stroller or red in color, not even the same brand!). Apparently the one I had inquired about was for nearly $300! I told her I just wasted my time and her response was “sorry, when you called we were really busy”. I told her I wish she had just asked me to call back instead of giving me completely incorrect information and wasting my time. Wouldn’t recommend this place at all!
Great deals on lightly used clothes. Many onesies 10 for $10 and pajamas 5 for $10. I also found some cute Gap pants that were in great shape for $6.50. Almost all the clothes that I saw there were in very good or like new condition.
Good variety. Good value.
Great stuff. You can Fing good things there
Always fast, friendly and helpful service. I have bought and sold products here. This particular location always has a good selection, especially compared to others. Love the larger location but still wish the aisles were wider! Will still keep coming back. Have bought hundreds of dollars of clothes already, me and my mother!
Books are cheaper here then at value village..win!
Nice. Tidier then other stores.
I love this store. They help me save so much money. They carry great brands like Tripple Flip, Justice, Iviva etc. I buy, she wears a year then I sell again. Greag deal. And they are so friendly compare to the Trafalgar location.
People here are always nice and happy to help you, they have good quality things at great price
Always great costumer service !
Great store if you are looking to sell some children's clothes, toys or accessories. As long as your items are in good shape and we're of some value when you purchased them they will likely accept your item for money or trade.
I love this store!! Once upon a child has made it so easy to cloth 3 girls at a very affordable price!!
Edited to change my response. Since the former owner is no longer employed with OAC and Karen the new manager is there then I am happy to hear that the former manager is no longer there. There has been many complaints and I wish Karen the new owner best of luck. Unfortunately, the previous owner has done some damaging behavior and I hope the best for OAC
Don’t bother bringing your items here. Don’t bother shopping at this location. The employees are the worst and don’t have customer service.
We shop here all the time! Love the prices, selection and staff are great!
Great store, great selection, unfortunately a lot of the toys were missing pieces, even battery covers. Need to be a bit more picky on what's coming in.
Would give a zero if they would let me the staff is so rude and very unfriendly. The lady that checked us was rude each time she spoke to us didn’t even try asking politely. Very cramped and badly laid out. If your not happy with your job find a new one. Seems like an on going thing with unfriendly staff at your store. You think you would change that. I’ll stick with Hamilton .
Clothes are too expensive, and most of the stuff in there is in terrible condition. Staff are always rude. They don’t deserve any stars. Edit In response to the owner. I’ve never had any problems at the Cambridge/Hamilton locations.... there is obviously just an issue with management at THIS location.
I have saved so much money shopping here.
Worst customer service ever....the staff there is extremely rude towards customers....I am a regular customer....next time I come to buy something for my son and any of those young girls gives me attitude again....I will embarrass someone in front of every customer and staff and call them out. U been warned....I don't appreciate rudeness and people trying to rush me out the store....hire people who are actually respectful!!!
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE Iv come to this location many times. 9 times out of 10 the staff are rude and act as if your not there, but I can usually deal with it, this was the last straw. The manager must not realize what good customer service is. Will be the last time I go, I would rather drive out of town to another location to not deal with the staff in brantford.
I went in there for the first time, to sell clothes. The sales associate was training and while her knowledge was good, her delivery was patronising! After she looked through my items and I was given $0.40! It was a waste of my time going in there to sell my clothes. Be careful to know the "rules" before trying to sell clothes. The selection is good though, probably because of the rules. Staff need to work on their service! They weren't friendly and made me feel embarrassed!
Great clothing selection of gently used kids stuff
Very organized clean store. All clothes are in great condition. Very friendly staff.
I went to this store today just to be treated very poorly by the staff and insulted by the way they do business. Standing behind the counter acting like you're worse than the dirt on their shoes for bringing clothing in to sell and to have these young girls one blonde one brunette look down on people while the roof is leaking and then smirk when they offer the bare minimum for the clothes is unbelievable. I will never step foot in that hole again and will continue to go to the Hamilton one where they are actually nice and treat you like an actual human being. I thought you know the reviews are bad but no one goes online to leave a good review so I'll take them with a grain of salt and give them a chance, turns out there aren't any good reviews for a reason. Unless this store has some insanely drastic changes do yourself a favor and visit the one in Hamilton you won't regret it! Avoid this one! I created an account today just so I could share my ridiculous experience and to let people know that these are truly honest reviews. Sad but true! Oh and one more thing while standing at the counter their phone was ringing and instead of answering they picked up the receiver and hung up and proceeded to laugh about it, with the sign in the window looking for staff I hope you find better staff than what you have now.
Ok, I'm glad it's not just me who feels the staff (specifically the manager who is there ALL the time) is not very friendly. As well as I've brought in lots of great condition clothes some brand new and they barely offered $1 per piece. Then walking around the store (because they don't let you leave when your selling stuff so you buy more) I see the stuff I've sold to them past times outrageously too high. $14 for a pair of used winter boots, are they serious? I've worked in retail for years as a teen and into my early twenties and never thought it was ok to treat people the way I've been treated here. It is very sad. I will be going to the Hamilton location from now on. I gave them many chances, I thought maybe it's just an off day for them...? Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be, this is just way they do business. Best of luck to you Brantford Once Upon A Child. I hope you don't go out of business, but it would probably be for the best. To the owner please don't respond to my post with excuses for your staff, really isn't helping make your store look any better.
When I went in with a high chair to offer to them, Trish (aka Blue) was a pleasure to deal with. This is a great store!
Nice prices and plenty of selection. Definitely worth a visit!
I have nothing but praise for this store and their staff, especially during the lockdown. I requested a rather large order today, and they sent me several photos of items to choose from. The process was very simple and well executed! All of the clothing and shoes that I received were in excellent condition. The order was ready for pick up in no time at all, and the employee that I dealt with via FB messenger provided exceptional customer service. I can't wait until you are open again, but until that time your curbside shopping can't be beat! Thanks again!
PICKY and over priced. I used to love how organized they are compared to other locations but that doesn't really matter cause Carter's is too. With those prices not sure why I would bother when I can just go there. I'm done with this location after another visit where they turned items away for purchase that were almost new. I stood beside a used bikini??? while they turned away great items that were VERY gently used and easily sold elsewhere. Also, if I have to hear the manager talk to her staff like they are beneath her in front of everyone one more time...One star for organization.
Many items are quite worn out, you need to thoroughly look them over.
Awesome experience! Everything is well organized and a huge selection too ????
This store is very challenging... I will also avoid this Store when the Manager "Teresa" is there because as a human I can't watch someone get lectured infront of guests! This is disgraceful. No Wonder you always have a NOW HIRING sign. Your manager needs a reality check and needs to learn how to manage a staff without intimidating an employee. I really enjoy shopping here but so long as an owner supports an abusive manager I will not return. Definition of Harassment Under the Policy on Harassment Prevention and Resolution, harassment is defined as: improper conduct by an individual, that is directed at and offensive to another individual in the workplace, including at any event or any location related to work, and that the individual knew or ought reasonably to have known would cause offence or harm. It comprises objectionable act(s), comment(s) or display(s) that demean, belittle, or cause personal humiliation or embarrassment, and any act of intimidation or threat. It also includes harassment within the meaning of the Canadian Human Rights Act (i.e. based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, disability and pardoned conviction). More specifically, harassment is normally a series of incidents but can be one severe incident which has a lasting impact on the individual. Essentially, the definition of harassment means that more than one act or event is needed in order to constitute harassment and that taken individually, this act or event need not constitute harassment. It is the repetition that generates the harassment. In other words, harassment consists of repeated and persistent behaviours towards an individual to torment, undermine, frustrate or provoke a reaction from that person. It is a behaviour that with persistence, pressures, frightens, intimidates or incapacitates another person. Each behaviour viewed individually may seem inoffensive; it is the synergy and repetitive characteristic of the behaviours that produce harmful effects. However, one single incident can constitute harassment when it is demonstrated that it is severe and has a significant and lasting impact on the complainant. Poisoned work environment A poisoned work environment refers to a workplace in which comments or behaviours create a hostile or offensive environment for individuals or groups and negatively affects communication and productivity. These activities (e.g., yelling at no one in particular; pounding a desk in frustration) are not necessarily directed at anyone in particular. All employees are expected to act towards other individuals professionally and respectfully and to speak out against unacceptable behaviours in the workplace in a skillful and sensitive manner. As the improper conduct is not directed at anyone in particular, as per the definition of harassment, a witness may not file a harassment complaint. Witnessing offensive behaviour towards others in the workplace does not constitute harassment for that witness. However, the situation should be reported to the supervisor or to the manager at the next level and prompt action is expected to be taken. All managers are expected to intervene promptly when they become aware of improper or offensive conduct even when no complaint has been made. However, please note that a behaviour not directed at any one identifiable person becomes harassment only when it relates to a prohibited ground of discrimination (such as displaying sexually explicit material or telling racist or religious jokes). SINCE THE EMPLOYEES SEEMED TO BE SCARED ...BECAUSE AS I'M TOLD WHEN SOMETHING IS SAID TO THE OWNER AND THE MANAGER GETS TALKED TO SHE GOES ON THE WAR PATH!!!! SAVE THE EMPLOYEES <3
Make sure you have an indeterminate amount of time to spend around the store. Between 1-5 hours till your items will be appraised to get a generally unfair price from staff who are often rude when dealing with your items. No longer shopping at OAC Brantford. Ancaster has been better.
I love this store. I bought 2 brand name barely used snow suits for less than $60 total! Great customer service also.
I visited the store today. There was a sale on, and there was a decent selection of clothes. My only issue is the building itself. It is not wheelchair or stroller accessible. There is no automatic door opener to get your stroller in the door. If you do manage to get inside, the aisles are very tight and there are bins placed throughout them so strollers can't fit through. This made shopping pretty difficult. Otherwise I had a good experience. I dealt with one staff member at the front and she was nice and helpful.
Good selection of items. Lots of clothing, shoes, toys, and other necessities (carriers, diaper bags, bouncers etc). Clearance is always great and regular prices are reasonable. They are very selective in the items they take and the amounts offered, at times, don't make it worth while selling an item, but it's a business so it's understandable.
Friendly staff, lots of selection, clean and well organized with excellent prices.
High prices
Gave one star because there is no zero option. These folks think they are pawn brokers, they jump to cutting down the value and making arbitrary negative comments right away when you bring even the best items in. I've been to this store to purchase as well as to sell but thankfully have found much better similar stores in Brantford. Save yourself the hassle and don't do business here.
Good selection. I also appreciate that they help keep toys and clothes out of landfills.
Clean reasonable prices, great collection! And staff is amazing, very accommodating!
Gently used childrens items, you need it they probably have it!
Absolutely disgusting customer service. Gave me a very rude greeting. I don’t have reusable shopping bags and gave it in boxes because the boxes can be sanitized just like the reusable bags and both staff gave me attitude. I’m very grateful to even have boxes during a pandemic. Then my mom picked up the stuff because I was not satisfied what so ever with the way they treated me and they gave my mom nothing but attitude. I understand it’s a lockdown but the customer service should’ve been improved seeing as it’s probably a lot less stressful working during a lockdown rather than having a store full of people open till close. I will not be going here again. And I truly think new staff and management should be something they think about. Be happy you guys have jobs. A lot of people are losing their homes and can’t afford to buy clothes because of the lockdown.
You can take your unwanted clothes there and sale ot to them and you also can shop new cheap clothes for your child
Great store with awesome deals. My wife spends way too much money here but it's ok I guess...better than the mall!
I've gone to this location a handful of times and won't be going back. Poor customer service!
Great selection and amazing staff.
Today on July 10 got around 15 outfits name brand puma Nike etc only $80 good staff very polite and helpful excellent conditioned quality clothing
They give you pennies for what you sell TO them, but that doesn't stop me from buying FROM them. You're better to try and sell clothing in lots on local buy n sell sites. Donate the rest to a thrift shop because if it's not practically new, they're not buying it.
Nothing but good experiences shopping here. Staff are friendly and very helpful, especially for curbside pickup during lockdown. Great way to save money and help the environment by buying second-hand.
This place is a serious joke- I brought in a brand new toddler’s bike there and they refused to take it because the canopy was a little wet... sorry lady, but I have a truck and it’s raining outside. It literally just got wet. Last week, they had a problem with the stroller having a little wear and tear. Don’t waste your time, just go straight to Peekaboo, they will most likely take your items and give you instant cash if it’s in season.
Great place to buy from. Selling is a problem. I've brought in brand new items worn once or twice. Washed and folded nicely. My items were "passes" and tossed back into the bin. I'll try the Cambridge store for selling. Also was told a 25min wait. I was the only person in the store and waited an hour.
Can ways find something at a good price
I really like shopping at Once Upon a Child, and it’s convenient to sell items to them as well, but I usually feel the amount they offer me for my items isn’t a fair amount. The last time I was at the Brantford location in person, one of the staff members was mean to my toddler- I was shocked. I followed up with them regarding the incident, and I was offered an apology over the telephone.
Went in today and the sales lady lied about the price of the item I was looking at. She said hers cost 2x as much as what they sell it for and come to realize it is cheaper elsewhere. Will not return!!!
This store is well organized and I have found some great toys here. However, I have had trouble trying to sell them items. They once rejected a brand new, never worn snow suit because it had a tiny brown mark on the foot. Even more frustrating is the fact that I once found an item with a noticeable hole on the shelf and another time bought a DVD only to bring it home and find someones personal DVD-R inside. Clearly staff members have different standards for reviewing merchandise.
The staff at this location are horrible. Honestly every time I go in (and it has maybe been half a dozen times) they are so rude. It has made me shop here less and less. Every time I give it another chance they continue to be more rude. Not sure what is up with the hiring process but maybe you need to do some team building ! M
Love the new store! Bonus! I hit a summer sale.
Good selection and price
Always has a good selection of clothes. Good prices and awesome deals
Friendly staff. Lots of stuff.
Give next to nothing when selling items, I understand that they need to make a profit but my word it's ridiculous. I'll be selling on Kijiji from here on out. I keep my childs items in excellent condition or I don't sell.
Massive location, everything from toys to clothes to strollers etc.
I have tried to sell here on 3 occasions to be told each time they are not buying now. I never had this issue with OAC prior to moving to Brantford. Don't waste your time here, go to Cambridge or Ancaster OAC.
Amazing place, clean and organized. Found everything i needed all for a great price.
I purchased two pairs of shorts from them, both sizes 18 months (my son is 7 months, but a bigger baby). Neither of them fit. I was past the 7 day return period and wasn’t looking for a refund just an exchange. Because of how long ago the purchase was they told me my only option was to sell them back to the store. I agreed. She inspected the two pairs of shorts (both still with all the tags) and told me they couldn’t return one pair because the stitch was ripped on the one pair...? Well your store sold them to me like that? So now too bad for me? I ended up walking out with $0.90. Really not worth my time at all. So now I have a pair of shorts they won’t take back that don’t fit and I got a whopping $.90 cents for my troubles. I’m just annoyed at the fact that they won’t take back what was good enough to sell me in the first place. If it’s good enough to sell to me you should take it back. It was just a frustrating experience.
Bought a couple of things. Very slow and chatty.
Its a great place to buy clothed for your kids. I never buy new anymore. Toys are hut or miss though they always seem to be missing a important piece.
Went to the new location. Very clean and organized. Vast improvement on their old location which usually smelled like dirty diapers and there was stuff everywhere.
Great quality for second hand stuff. The staff are friendly. Prices are very reasonable.
Stood in line while 1 cashier talked non stop without being able to ring items through at the same time. The 4 other workers behind the counter weren't too busy that they couldn't open another till. Instead they talked and stood around. Horrible customer service and a dirty store.
Great selection. Prices are amazing when on sale. And they've got repeat customers because you buy it used, sell it back used and the buy the next size up. Rinse and repeat.
Good place to go to buy items at a cheaper price ... although, if you want to have your pieces of clothing purchases by the store, you must have them in pristine condition. I had my cloths set in boxes for a long time, after they were washed and dried. After I had enough articles of clothing to take, they did not take a thing, with the exception being a "european" style bathing suits, which they bought for 90 cents!
Your Manager is a joke...how in the back can a business owner continue to employ someone who berates the staff right in front of customers. The staff can be quite snobby and talk down to you. To the owner this is probably why you can't keep employees. Always Hiring. Treat others they way you want to be treated. Kindness and a smile can go a long way. Garanteed if you fired the manager all of your business you have lost over the years would come back. Also please dont respond as you continue to make excuses for employees being snobs or having no customer service skills
Awful!! They lowball you horribly
Always a hassle here. Customer service is awful.
Great clothing clean and friendly staff
I've sold them clothes in the past and the experience was satisfactory. However my last experience (first with the manager present) was awful. She was rude and disrespectful. I don't know why she acts superior, because there's nothing redeeming about her. I don't need the money, but thought it can't hurt since I buy from them often. I will just donate them going forward and save myself the headache. Also, will rethink about buying now too.
So much for testing toys to ensure they work before buying them from people. Just bought a today and install brand new batteries and doesn't even work.
Love, love, love this place!!! Great prices!!!
I'll start with the positives: store is clean and tidy and items are of good quality. Now for the negatives... It's a shame that this once great store has such grumpy owners now. The owner/manager is very rude, negative and short with customers. Never a smile never a genuine care. Also very robotic In her dialogue with you during check out time. I understand your job is repetitive but it doesn't hurt to have small chat with people. Your customers are likely going to become repeat business as their child grows, so make an effort to develop a friendly relationship with them.
I have been more disappointed with every visit. For how selective they are when purchasing items, there seem to be a lot of broken toys or toys with missing pieces. I recently went and spent $50 on a jacket and item and when I asked if they seriously wanted $15 for a hape rocker that was not tightly secured, totally stained and worn with little paint left, the woman barely looked up and said "it's the brand. It's expensive". I find staff to be incredibly unapproachable as they seemed annoyed by any question or request, they were short and aside from talking amongst themselves, made very little attempt to provide customer service. The toy section was the worst I've seen (value Village up at Appleby is much nicer). I understand that children come in and out of the store, but I was there right when doors opened and it was just a mess. The bathroom was in awful shape when I went to change my daughter and there was a thick coating of dust on top of most of the items that were higher up. Overall, I am done shopping at this location and will be warning others of their steady decline in both environment and staff. A real shame.
Great store, super busy. Tons of merchandise in pristine condition. Will return.
I took 3 full bags of baby clothing, shoes, hats to the store. The staff was friendly and informed me that it was going to take approx. 15mins to go through the items. When I returned, I was told that I had brought very nice things, but that they could only offer me $13 for a handful of items due to the fact that all the other items in the bags had spots or stains. I was very surprised that so many items had stains knowing that I had checked all the items before taking them to the store, but I accepted their offer and left. I thought that perhaps I might have missed a few, but how could I have missed that all of them had stains?! When I got home, I had another look at the clothes and noticed that in one of the bags, half of the clothes at the bottom of the bag hadn't even been touched - they were left folded exactly the way I had left them. The other bag had more items that had clearly been checked, but many still left the same way I had put them in the bag - quite a few clothes had never even been worn and a couple were brand new with tags. Very disappointing experience.
It's kind of messy inside
