Fred is exceptional towards his employees. He loves to work hard and hardly pays his employees in full. His lack of responsibility and knowledge in safety is concerning. I dropped by his house to ask for a week's pay that he owed. In his words "I will punch you in the face, I will back into your car" All because I was parked in his driveway and he didn't want to pay me. Blocked my calls and would never return my messages after he agreed to pay for work that was done. Five star A**Hole Would recommend if you want shotty work done with no warranty.

The only reason why Fred and the Total Home Renovations team are not getting 5 stars is because 5 stars denotes perfection and the only things perfect in this world are songs that give you goosebumps, a strong cup of Tetley, or a meatball hero sub from Salvatore's Pizzaiolo Trattoria in Halifax, NS. As a person who works in procurement for a living, three quotes are the essence of my profession. I would expect one to do the very same with any home related work involving contractors. My one recommendation is that one of those quotes always be from Total Home Renovations. Unforeseen home renovation work is always inconvenient, and despite any element of budgeting, a true setback. This summer was no different for my family. What started out as a basic bandsaw pine paint and replacement project ended up being something more problematic and potentially heartbreaking. Like any true Newfoundlander we sent out feelers to see if any family or friends could do the job. Between familial correspondence, random references and official requests for quotes, Total Home Renovations kept coming up. So I called Fred…. Price will always be at the forefront when deciding any contractor. (Unless it is Muskrat Falls…) Fred was not the cheapest nor the most expensive, but my conversation with him made me certain he and his team were the right people for the job. Fred saw a lofty, lucrative project but seemed reticent to accept due existing client projects. In an age when customer service and quality takes a back seat to a quick dollar, it was this that sold me. Fred was willing to pass on a good project to ensure his existing customers would not suffer. Any raging capitalist would call that stupidity, but, any sound business-minded person would call that integrity. We were not going to have anyone else do the job. As the rotting layers of our “home sweet home” onion were pulled back, Total Home Renovations were there for every teary eyed layer. Fred took a vested interest in ensuring that not only was our house structurally sound, once again, but that all the details and little nuisances reflected our style. I write this months later with the job finished on schedule and within budget. More importantly, I now have a contractor in my phone who I will always rely on. I will still look for three quotes but one of those quotes will always be from Fred.

We are absolutely thrilled with our new deck. We had an idea of what we wanted, and Fred designed a beautiful, solid three level deck, complete with pergola, that surpassed what we had envisioned. Fred fully renovated two bathrooms and bedrooms in my 100+ year old St.John’s townhouse. Everything from levelling/reinforcing floors and walls, plumbing, porcelin tile, infloor heating, shower and fixtures, baseboards, casings, plastering and painting. Even exposing and restoring a hidden brick chimney. I was guided through the entire renovation process and my home has been improved to standards I never thought possible. No matter the challenge Fred with his experience and diverse knowledge always has a solution.

A water leak appeared in the second floor ceiling of my condo in February of 2020. Total Home Renovations were hired to fix the issue. Fred, the contractor assessed the situation, explained everything, and assured me it would be fixed to my satisfaction. I was quite leary, as I've had some negative experiences with work done on my home in the past. Fred consulted with a reputable, nationwide roofing company to come in and fix the leak on the outside. Other structural issues were discovered and fixed at this time The deck on the third floor had to be removed and rebuilt to fix the leak.This was not an easy task with the cold temperatures, wind, the amount of snow back there and the high height of the deck from the ground. But Frank, the carpenter, completed it all rather effortlessly it seemed, with a great attitude. Inside my home, the main floor ceiling had to be torn out, insulated again, new gyproc and painted. I've had to deal with this leak issue before and it was supposed to have been fixed. When they left, a huge mess was left behind for me to tackle. I was not confident in their work and I was certain the leak would return, and it did. It was nothing but a hassle & frustration from beginning to end. It was quite the opposite with Total Home Renovations. Any questions or concerns I had Fred addressed them promptly. It was all very stress free for me, but I know it was a difficult task, finding and fixing leaks during winter and tearing out ceilings and repairing them. I was very impressed with the condition my home was left in.There was very minimal clean up left for me. Working with gyproc is very messy and clean up can be a nightmare..I know from past experience. In my mind, the condition a home is left in speaks volumes. It shows the contractor and his team take pride in their work, are truly respectful and are not just there to get in and out to make a buck as quick as possible. I would highly recommend Total Home Renovations to anyone needing work done on their property. I would especially recommend them to those of us who really need someone they can put their trust in to do a quality, honest job. Female home owners, seniors, or those with health/mobility issues, I would especially point you in their direction. I can see certainly see why Total Home Renovations has won the Consumer Choice Award for St. John's and area for their work. Thanks guys for my beautiful new deck and new crack/leak free ceiling!
