John and his team did a spectacular job with quality, being on time and on budget. The system is now over a year old and has exceed all expectations (and energy generation projections) I highly recommend this company.

From getting quotes to discussing options and finally doing the install everything was well coordinated, communicated, and executed for the actual install. I really wish more businesses were run like theirs. System is working great and have not had any issues. Attention to detail is really important since most installs will go on top of a roof. Water proofing and pest control are small bits of detail they really thought about that others didn’t even mention or highlight.

When you're getting quotes for solar, you always want to compare a few different companies, but you're really not doing yourself any favors if you don't include a quote from Solar Ascent. I had a quote from a big Ontario solar company early on that just felt like a sale, but when I started talking to John Jennex from Solar Ascent (a local Halifax company) it was clear that he had my best interests at heart. His team recommended a slightly smaller (and cheaper) system than the competitors did (he didn't know I already had a quote for a larger system I was considering). And even after I asked him to add more panels to get as much as possible out of our weirdly shaped roof he said "it wouldn't be fair to charge you for extra panels on that side of your roof that honestly won't produce much electricity anyway." I'm pretty sure he ran the simulation for both though just to be sure. The whole process was really simple from our end as homeowners. The costs were clearly laid out so we could understand the price, the pay back period made sense and there was no pressure to buy at any point. It actually felt more like a nerdy conversation about energy efficient homes than a sales visit when they came to measure our roof to confirm their preliminary estimate. And after we decided to go ahead with the purchase, we didn't have to make any calls for the rebates, permits, inspections or NS power meter swaps - John let us know what would be happening and when and then it just happened. I've never seen a project work out that smoothly in my life AND we had our system installed during their peak install season which also had a major hurricane hit the city in the middle of things. The only delays we had were caused by waiting for NS power to catch up to Hurricane Dorian repairs before they could inspect and approve our hookup, but John made all the calls to push that along as well so we didn't have to worry about it. The only issue we had was with 4 panels (out of 27) that didn't connect to the system on and off after they worked fine during the in-person test. They would work great for a few days and then one day of the week they wouldn't turn on at all and produced no power (you can see how much each panel produces in the app that John hooks you up with to monitor your system live and double check this for yourself). The funny thing was John had already noticed the issue, called the manufacturer and emailed me me the solution that he had already implemented in the software (remotely from his office) to fix the problem before I even noticed that we had a problem in the first place. I'm an engineer and I look into all the details, but John was way ahead of me on troubleshooting. He even showed me where to look from now on in the app to know for sure that the problem isn't happening anymore - it hasn't happened since. That's service that makes it easy to recommend Solar Ascent to any of my friends and neighbors without hesitation.

We've had our solar panels for a year now, and it's been fantastic. At the start of the process we received a detailed quote to let us know what to expect from our solar production, and it was very close to what we actually produced this year. In fact we came out just ahead, which is great! The installation was painless, just a couple of days of work and Solar Ascent took care of the paperwork to apply for the government rebates we were allowed to use. They were on time, friendly, and professional and answered all of my questions whenever I had them. The only hiccup was that due to Covid, we couldn't get them inspected right away, so they couldn't be turned on for a few weeks after they were installed. When they are on, you have full visibility for what you're producing because you get an app for your phone to monitor production minute-to-minute. Prepare to become obsessed with knowing how many trees planted your solar production is equivalent to! Overall, the process was easy and the production has been great. We saved over $1800 on electricity this year with the panels, and we couldn't be happier.

I literally cannot say enough good things about this company! They have been absolutely brilliant to deal with. The management team, administration and the onsite team were all an absolute delight. They initially proposed a system last fall which we accepted and they sorted out all of the paperwork for the rebate, financing etc over the winter as they wanted to wait for better weather to do an install (which totally makes sense, I don't want anyone falling off my roof due to ice and snow!) In the time between applications being submitted and the project being scheduled, we had decided to have some work done to the house which changed the roof and actually made space for a bigger system. These guys were great and took care of all of the paperwork AGAIN and then a third time when there was another change. We had other contractors on site for various jobs and their onsite team were super happy to work around other tradesmen where needed. They were very tidy and respectful of our home and clearly communicated how/when they would need access or if there was an occasion they needed to be onsite but did not need access. They were also very aware of our escape artist cat and were careful not to let him out which we really appreciated! All in all, we basically asked for a solar system, signed a few documents and it appeared on our roof with zero headaches. I would recommend these guys 100%.

Like so many others when I heard the rebates for solar were dropping in a week I reached out to Solar Ascent. My first point of contact was Matt who immediately jumped on a call with me and was out to view my house the next day. He made the entire process incredibly easy and I felt informed and confident in my decision the entire way through. We had our solar panels installed this past August (2020). To say we are pleased with the results would be a massive understatement. Upon receiving out next bill in October which would usually run close to $500 we instead saw $23... My wife and I immediately did the "Dance of Joy" from "Perfect Strangers". We had also generated a ton of carry over power in such a short time that will be super helpful heading into our first winter with the panels. The thing I like the most about John, Matt and their entire team is that they really cared. I know that sounds cheesy and cliche but in this case, very true. I had a unique style metal roof put on my house and John worked closely with the installers to ensure he understood their product, and came out to the house while it was being installed to get a better understanding. Then he went back and forth with that company to come up with a way to successful install the solar panels while maintaining my 60 year roof warranty. Another great example that really blew me away was close to the date of install. The pre-work was done, everything was signed and approved, we were ready to go and John came out for the final look over to ensure everything was as it should be. We started discussing the system and the future potential of solar energy. It could have easily been a casual conversation that ended there and a week or so later I would have a wonderful system installed. From that conversation John went back and reworked our plan and got it approved through NSP in the shortest of windows to ensure the system would be capable to not only produce effectively now but to do all the additional things I want in the future. That added more work to his already busy plate and showed me how much he and his team truly care about the work they do. If you are considering solar, I HIGHLY recommend reaching out to Solar Ascent. Everyone should contact them at least for the assessment to understand what you are working with. It is super quick, easy and free, then you'll understand if solar is the right option for you. I obtained 3 quotes before deciding to go with Solar Ascent and the decision was very easy. I immediately felt they were honest and looking out for my best interest. They were professional and always responded to questions in a timely manner. My roof is small so the number of panels that could be installed was limited. They were honest about all aspects of the installation and did not try to sell me more panels for the north facing side of the roof as it wouldn't be worth the investment. Don't be fooled by companies trying to sell as many panels as they can when it doesn't justify the additional cost in terms of the power generated. The installation went smoothly and all of the workers were friendly and professional. I am amazed by the amount of power they generate and I generated more power than what I consumed on my most recent bill. I have absolutely no hesitation recommending Solar Ascent and there was never a moment that I doubted my decision. UPDATE - A year later and my energy production actually exceeded the estimate. I had over 6 months of free power last year and only had the panels for a little more than 10 months. Can't wait to save again this year!

I commenced interacting with John and his team at Solar Ascent after going through 8 months of complete silence and deplorable customer service with a previous contractor. Because of my previous experience, I told John that all I require is honesty and communication, and I certainly got that. Additionally, due to the previous contractors inability to communicate, I was up against a wall with my solar project, as rebate deadlines were closing and I was in a position to lose $6000 from the Solar Homes rebate program. Well, I met with John on a Thursday evening and he had all of my paperwork submitted to the appropriate institutions within 12 hours! A really good sign compared to the mess I just left. From that day forward, John and his team were nothing short of outstanding to work with. He maintained communication and kept me informed of every step of the process, and submitted my applications very quickly, in fact, always less than 24 hours. This was very nice, as the previous contractor let me applications expire. Moreover, I was not required to lift a finger, as Solar Ascent handled every single step of the process, which includes Several different institutions. Solar Ascent was on top of every single aspect of this project, did impeccable work, ensuring all cabling was properly routed through the eaves as opposed to having unprotected wiring hang over the edge of my roof. He installed critter guard on my system, which he includes in all installations, further demonstrating attention to detail, superb craftsmanship and work done right. Unfortunately, as a solar enthusiast who investigated several (over 10) installers and received over 10 quotes, I found dealing with these companies to be a nightmare. But, I can truly say that John and his team were the complete opposite of the others. I strongly recommend doing business with Solar Ascent, which is a company that clearly takes customer service seriously, and will do what they say, when they say. I am so grateful that Solar Ascent was recommended to me, because I am finally up and running and did not lose my rebate, in large part because of the folks at Solar Ascent. Very happy customer!!!
