New to St Catharines, a year ago we needed new gutters and downspouts installed in our 1915 home. On the recommendation of friends, we hired Lodde and were very pleased with the quality of the work, the value, and the service. (They quickly resolved a couple of small Issues.) So this year, when we needed a whole new roof, we knew who to call, and once again we were delighted by the results. Lodde uses only the best materials; employs experienced, hard-working, well-paid crews; and ensures that all work is to the highest standards, even sending over their own inspector before expecting the balance of the contract. In roofing, even more than in other home improvement areas, you get what you pay for, and while Lodde may not be the cheapest contractor in town, when you hire them, you know you are going to get the best job possible by a company that takes pride in and stands by its work.

After parts of our roof blew off in the wind-storm (2019), our roofer (Mike) at Herb Lodde helped us through every step of the repair: dealing with insurance (i.e., quotes, reports, etc.), quickly installing an emergency patch, and installing our new roof. They were professional, courteous (i.e., they let our kids watch the excitement while they worked), and cleaned up thoroughly afterwards (e.g., they even tarped the bushes near the house so they wouldn't get wrecked!). They followed-up after the work was done with an inspection to ensure everything was done properly. Overall, we had excellent service and a quite reasonable price (that matched the initial quote).

My new garage (20' x 24') needed asphalt shingles for roof and vinyl siding. I had used Lodde Roofing at my previous house and requested competitive bids. (Lowest price not always best price). They quoted 3 weeks delivery, but they had a roofing crew available 4 days later on Friday June 22nd. The crew foreman, Josh, introduced himself, confirmed they were at right house, and proceeded to install the shingles. There was a roofing detail problem, he gave me options, and proceeded to my satisfaction. A job site inspection was requested, and then they cleaned up site-- all in 30 degree heat! Good crew, good work, and good looking roof. I am very satisfied.

Many companies like to talk about their values, principles and integrity. Sadly, when it comes to delivering on their promise, they either fall short or do “just enough”. I have rarely seen a company live up to their brand promise, and even more rarely surpass it. I am a tough critic and will not give a company a 10 just for showing up and doing what they said they would do – they need to go above and way beyond. Herb Lodde & Sons did just that. In Dec, sadly my father passed away, - the next day, there was an awful thunderstorm and water started to drip into my mother’s living room. Most companies I called said they were not able to do anything until spring. When I called Herb Lodde & Sons, Ken, the Sales Rep, said he would come right over. He did explain the challenges of working in the cold, but felt they had a solution that would work in our case. He gave us a number of options on how to proceed. At the end, we agreed on his initial recommendation. He cautioned that his quote was based on what he was able to see without removing the shingles, and that if the damage was bad, they would need to replace the plywood and insulation at an extra charge. Before leaving, and at no charge, Ken even offered to tarp tarped the bad section as to minimize any damage in the meantime. He carefully sealed all the edges and made sure that no more water came into the house, taking his time to make sure it was done right. When the crew showed up, they did a great job, were polite and respectful, and cleaned up after themselves when they were finished. They told my mom that other than the shingles, everything was sound and no additional work (or charges) were required. She was extremely pleased with the whole experience. In the process of fixing the roof, however, they removed the satellite dish and somehow cracked it. I wasn’t surprised as the unit was very old. I called and left a message explaining the situation. The next day, the owner of the company came by to see the work for himself - and the dish. He was very apologetic and offered to pay for a new one. A week later someone from the company came by to clean my mom’s the chimney free of charge, as during the inspection, the owner saw that is was very dirty and dangerous. I believe it was his way to make things right about the dish. I want to thank Herb Lodde & Sons for the kindness shown my mom during a difficult time. In addition to doing a great job, they treated us more than fairly, and with honesty and respect. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Our roof was leaking and we need repair fast so I checked the reviews on Google and Herb Lodde was the best statistically. Sure enough they came out to fix the roof the very next day, did a great job and a new roof was recommended. We had them do the new roof as well and it looks great. Rob came to our home and explained everything and answered all our questions. We had a lot of rain and the scheduled appointment of a Thursday was not able to be kept, however a crew came Saturday to insure we received our new roof. I had concerns regarding damaged wood not being replaced and Rob assured me that everything was good and up to code and that notes were made of my concern and added to my file / warranty. Improper Flashing Details: Roof shingles appear to have been properly installed but skylights were not properly flashed. This resulted in leaks and damage to the interior ceiling and drywall. Lodde refused to repair properly and claimed that the skylight had failed. When shingles were removed by a separate contractor to make repairs, it was confirmed that the skylights had not been properly flashed and that there was nothing wrong with the skylight.

Completely unprofessional company. Staff are a mess, leave all their belongings/garbage on neighbours property and even enter neighbours backyard without asking on numerous occasions to drink from their hose. When asked what he was doing the staff member said the owner of the property was “to cheap” to give them water. If your looking for staff that look and behave like Neanderthals than give them a call. We had our roof done 2 weeks ago and are thrilled we went with a professional owner/operated company.

We had our whole exterior (siding, eventhough, downspouts, some windows) redone. Steve was extremely helpful in explaining everything to us, there were no hidden costs. The workers were all very respectful and punctual. We called them again when we needed to repair some shingles. They always clean up. Definitely recommend them and would personally use them again.

We contacted Herb Lodde & Sons Roofing for an estimate on our roofing. Of the companies we contacted, the Herb Lodde estimator was the only one that actually went onto the roof to take a look. The job was started when proposed and completed within an acceptable time frame. Bad weather put the finish date off by a couple of days. The roofers were professional, quick and efficient. They knew what they were doing and worked together as a team. An inspector did a follow-up and answered several questions I had. We recently hired the services of Quality Exteriors and Herb Lodde & Sons Roofing to do 3 separate jobs for our home. Firstly, we had 6 windows replaced with Gentek windows. The installers were extremely professional, the windows being perfectly installed, the trim fit perfectly inside and out, and they left absolutely no debris to clean up, even vacuuming to my wife's standards. Secondly, we had "Rain Gutter, by alu-rex", fastened on the tops of the eavestroughs, making them virtually maintenance-free. The installers did a great job and left no debris on the lawn or behind the shrubs. Thirdly, the roofers removed and replaced the deteriorating ridge shingles. They showed me an old brittle ridge shingle, and the new flexible fibreglass ones they were installing. Very well done and absolutely no debris left on the roof or yard. Our roof is quite steep and a challenge for the average roofing company We called MANY roofing companies and some would drive by, look at the roof and never call us again. Wanted to wait a few months before I wrote this review to see how the roof performs in high winds. I replaced my roof last summer 2018 with Herb Lodde after dealing with missing shingles every year from a different company that did my roof from 8 years previous. I asked Herb Lodde for a roof that would resist high winds. Months later and after a few high winds, my GAF roof from Herbe Lodde has not lost one shingle. Nor have I witnessed not one single "lift" at all. They went the extra mile to ensure that both the shingle and installation method met my needs in a high wind area. My sales guy, Jason was A+ as well as the installers. All good!

They just finished a job for my friend. They went through his garage without his permission and used his extension cords and blue bins for all their stuff and used his shingles that were in the garage without asking. They also used his ladders and didnt clean up the nails in the driveway. Then when approached about the situation, their solution was to give him $20. Absolutely unacceptable from a well known company like this. Dont recommend this company to anyone. Embarrassing how the situation was handled

I am very dissatisfied by the service I received from Herb Lodde and sons roofing. In Mid November I received an estimate for replacement of loose shingles. When the employee came to my house he stated that the price quoted was incorrect and it would cost $100 more because the house is a 2 story and he would need to wear a harness. He was told that incorrect quotes are misleading so I would pass on the service. He called the company and then stated he would do the job for the quoted price. In retrospect, that should have been a red flag about the credibility of this company. Within 2 weeks of completion of the job I saw part of a shingle on my front lawn. On looking at the roof from afar, another piece of shingle could be seen in the metal gutter on the roof. When Herb and Lodde was contacted about the issue, an employee stated that the full price would be again charged to have the roof looked at. Invoice number 16533, paid in full for : Service call- remove and replace loose and missing shingles where required. I am now seeking another roofer to complete the job.

The workmanship I received on this job has been poor. I have about 15 exposed nails in the shingles as they were not hit within the nail strip line. More exposed nails were found in the ridge caps with the same issue, driven in too low so the next cap did not over lap it. After much effort on my part and phone calls I got them to come to replace some of the issues. They showed up at 430pm at the end of October when it starts getting darker earlier. They fixed what they could find by ripping up the problem shingles and putting new ones in except for 2 areas where they left the nails and just caulked it. After 2 weeks I go back on the roof as majority of the ridge caps were not sealing. I find more exposed nails, amazing what you find in the day light and not an hour before it gets dark. Then I find many nails were at 45 degree angles causing the shingle on top to not sit flush on each other. Also on I think 5 different spots the nail is now breaking through the shingle above it. There are other spots where you can feel the nail, it just hasn’t poked through yet. I had to buy some roof adhesive to seal the shingles and to seal the areas where the nails poked through so now that there’s snow on the roof I hope I made the roof watertight. I found they did not remove the plastic seal on the bottom end of a shingle. This was noticed as it was not sealing. There were other smaller issues as well but The few pictures I’ll share speak volumes I think. There are more exposed nails than the pictures shared but you get the idea. On the positive side I will say the metal, flashing work performed by a separate crew was great, cut perfectly, and caulked water tight.

I called to get an estimate for some shingle repairs after some blew off my roof. I was never told that for them to come take a look it would be $200. I was told it was a free estimate. The two guys came and took one look at my roof and told me that the whole one side needs to be replaced. They quickly put some caulking on the spots that were missing shingles, and told me they would be in touch for a full roof estimate. I then got an invoice in the mail for $226.....When I called to inquire I was told that I "Should have" been told the service call is $200. Too bad I wasn't pretty much.....

100 % happy! I booked on-line for a quote from Herb L’s company. One day later I received an e-mail explaining that their sales rep Rob C would be calling me to set up the date and time. This e-mail also included a picture of Rob so I knew who to expect. A short time later Rob called and the meeting was booked. On the day of our meeting it snowed and Rob called to say he would not be able to go up on the roof so we re-booked. I had quotes from 3 companies and went with Herb L’s; mostly because Rob knowledge and he did not “bad mouth” any of their competitors. We had our roof re-shingled and skylight replaced. They guys completed the work in 2 days. They were polite and kept me informed of what was being done and when. The cleanup was perfect. They played music but it was at an excitable level and never once did I hear a swear word from them! That statement is important because my neighbour just had his roof finished yesterday by another company and at one point I almost went outside to tell them to stop the swearing. Herb’s guys were amazing….thank you! A few days I received a call to say an inspector was coming on Wednesday to do a final inspection; that’s nice that their work is checked. The girls in their office (hi Julia) also were amazing. The last call was to tell me the inspection went well and a letter was left in our mailbox. Also the payment was processed at that time. It could not have been better.....we were given detailed information re the roofing project & what to expect. We were promised the job would be completed within 2 days (weather permitting) & 3 days at the most. The work crew of 7 did an amazing job of completing the entire project in 20 hours in two days!!! (8hrs. & 10hrs)....we were going away & we did go away happy to see the new roof completed.....The crew worked & toiled in "rapid fashion" combined with precise teamwork....plus excellent work ethics....just a happy bunch of men getting the work done & cleaning/picking up after themselves. It was such a pleasant experience for us especially after hearing some nightmare stories
