WARNING CAUTION. My experience was terrible. Get it in writing if you're going to use him. May want to consider using others as well. It took him over 2 days (more than 18 hours) to dig a hydro trench to a depth of more than 6 feet at some points (3.6ft required) and consistently 4 to 5 feet deep and 3 feet wide. Explanation was inspector will reject it even if it's 1 inch too shallow. Really? He thought there was going to be cable tv in with it so he made it wider. No cable in subdivision. Prepared 2 deck areas incorrectly. Used final material about a foot lower than should be. Then spread out extra material around the yard (wasted and charged me for it) Billed me 17 hours of labor and machines in a 9 hour day. Billed 3 hours for a dump truck (his, and already there) to move a few yards of soil 75 ft. Billed for 2 excavators and a truck simultaneously. Not sure how he used all 3 at the same time. He said "others bill the same way" I called others..no they don't. Had a drop off charge each time he brought machine of almost $200. Overcharged me for the gravel and pit run he had brought in. He refused to show me his bill from them so I made some calls. Way overcharged. Said he had a non disclosure agreement with the pits so can't tell me. I asked to see it he said "no". I called the pits, no such thing. Charged $47 for spray paint and sharpening chain saw. Said he had to cut branches off trees before loading them into a container truck to haul away. Not sure why, not his job and not necessary, the excavator can crush branches into container truck. Charged $45 per day to drive from Nanaimo to south end of Ladysmith. Everyday made the sight look pretty by smoothing out dirt that only got messed up next day. Wasted hours doing this at more than $100 per hour. He made a large flat level area, approx 50 ft by 20 ft, must have taken him better part of a day or more, at the front of the house when he was specifically told not to. He was told slope away using natural grade starting 3 feet from the house/deck edge. Let him go around the $24,000 mark (and still not finished) for maybe a $15,000 job. I had another company come in and estimate to finish. I told them what had been done already and didn't tell them what he charged but a lot of the work and billing he did was not necessary. They asked me why he pushed so much dirt into the nearby forest (in between trees) that now has to be pulled out. I couldn't answer that, they couldn't either. There was a yard and open area nearby. Their materials were less, no $45 driving fee, no triple charge for labor and machines. If they have 2 machines and a truck on sight they only charge the actual hours used on each machine. Adam charged for all 3 at the same time...triple billing. I told him I would considered small claims court but he text and said he would counter sue and have lawyers do it so that scared me off. I thought I better tell about my experience here and with the better business bureau. Maybe your experience will be better?
