We had Galen and the CHIZLD team come repair our sagging floor, re-do the plumbing that cut through that floor, move and install our cast iron tub upstairs, patch the wall in the bathroom where we removed a door frame and put a rough in for a future shower. They were friendly, punctual and professional and did a great job on our repair. We really liked their attention to detail, how they kept us informed throughout the week of their progress and were flexible to change things or explain things mid-job. Happy campers;) We'd definitely hire them again.

If you need a renovation done on time and done right these are the guys to call. My wife and I purchased a century home and needed our main bathroom completely gutted and redone. From the very start the level of communication was by far the best we've had with anyone. Scott and Galen responded to our questions and concerns the same day often within hours. They came on site to look at our current bathroom and were extremely helpful providing ideas and worked with us to stay within budget. Galen and his guys were extremely polite and kept the worksite clean after every day of work. The old bathroom was a jumbled mess of bad patch jobs and old renovations .. wall paper over top of wall paper, outdated plumbing, parts of knob and tube wiring left in the wall.. the pictures honestly don't do it justice.. it was a complete mess. Everything came together on time and within budget and my wife and I could not be happier. The quality of work is top notch. Just look at the before and after photos and you will understand. Also felt bad as Galen and his guys had to remove our old cast iron tub ... thing must have weighed over 400Lbs. Thanks for a job well done! Strongly recommended these guys!

We hired Galen to repair leaking tiles in our upstairs shower. Upon further inspection, he found mold and rotting wood underneath. We also had to have the glass shower door replaced. Galen and crew exceeded our expectations. We were very impressed with his continual follow ups and progress reports regarding the job at hand. His meticulousness translated well into the final product. He always made sure everything was done correctly and in a timely manner. Galen was always very professional, and it was easy to tell that he cares about his clients. We will definitely be using him again for future contracting work.

The men were very professional, punctual, and hard working. They stayed late when needed (had a day of rain to make up for) to keep within timeline of project. They actually listened to all our concerns (in my experience, most just pretend to listen then brush you off) and took good care of them. They took care of all our budget concerns, even returning excess material to help bring down costs. They were even courteous of the pets in the house. We are very happy with the outcome. Our room looks beautiful, definitely a showpiece. It is obvious that these men are professionals and know what they're doing. We have already recommended them to family and will use them again for future projects, big and small. They even vacuumed afterwards and cleaned the windows.

CHIZLD built us a detached 2 car garage. We were very impressed right from the start by Galen’s professional manner. He asked a lot of intelligent questions that showed us that he knew exactly how to build a garage. He helped us come up with a design to best suit our needs and helped us get the permit. He considered lots of details that we never thought of like what kind of concrete slab and the roof height and pitch and size of the doors. His estimate was prompt, detailed and reasonable. The work began a few days ahead of the scheduled start date. The concrete was poured and after the 28 day “curing” period these guys got to work. In spite of really cold rainy and snowy weather, these guys showed up every day. They did beautiful work. Every time I looked it seemed like they were measuring and levelling something. The building went up quickly. We did not encounter any problems and I think that was because of excellent planning and real expertise. These guys know what they are doing and the proof is in our beautiful new garage! When the project was completed they cleaned up properly. The site was left neat and tidy. We are really happy to have found CHIZLD and are already planning our next project. I wholeheartedly recommend these builders. Thank you Galen!

Kitchen / Main Floor Renovation It was a truly wonderful experience working with CHIZLD Design and Construction Ltd. in the renovation of the main floor of our home that included our kitchen, foyer, powder room, living room and mud room. The thought of tackling such a major renovation to our home was a little overwhelming. However, CHIZLD made the process so simple and easy. After interviewing several different contractors we decided to go with CHIZLD because their quote included details that other contractors had over looked and didn’t even think to include. What they quoted was what the final cost was and no hidden or extra expenses as we moved along due, which can be attributed to their excellent planning. The major task of our renovation was removing a wall between the old existing kitchen and formal dinning room plus closing off the front living room. They worked with us to get the look we were aiming for and ensuring that we were happy with the project every step of the way. CHIZLD’s attention to the fine details was what impressed us most. They were really concerned with making us (their customers) pleased. The transformation of our main floor has made our home look like a brand new build. We had a number of issues with the kitchen company’s installation of our cabinetry which CHIZLD helped us with rectifying the issues with the company. CHIZLD was genuinely concerned and checked in frequently to ensure that something was being done to fix the issues with our cabinetry and that the company was dealing with us fairly and properly. They even came back to fix the ceiling cracks that occurred from the cabinetry being installed incorrectly. Thanks to CHIZLD we learned a valuable lesson on what true craftmanship should look like and what we should expect from all skilled tradesmen working in our home. One of the things we loved most was the open communication we had with CHIZLD. At the end of each day, the project manager Galen McCue would wait until we got home from work to go over the work that was completed each day on site and confirm details/plans for the work to be completed the next day. If by chance we were late getting home from work, Galen would make a point of contacting us instead. We felt entirely comfortable with the entire CHIZLD crew and the sub-trades men as they were all very respectful of our home and our belongings. They arrived each morning before we headed to work and were packing up on our arrival home. They were meticulous at keeping all construction areas clean at the end of each day to try and make living through a kitchen renovation that much easier. We are so HAPPY that we made the right decision to hire CHIZLD for our kitchen renovation that included all other areas of our main floor. We will be forever grateful for the genuine care CHIZLD Design and Construction Ltd. took in making our visions become a reality. We confidently recommend CHIZLD to complete any major renovation to your home. They are highly skilled, professional, trustworthy and genuinely care for their clients and the reputation of their company name. This is a letter of recommendation for (Scott and Galen co-owners of Chizld). We hired Chizld to add a two story separate garage to our home in Grand Bend. We were very apprehensive of this project as a whole due to a discouraging experience we had when originally building on this property. We were met at that time with nothing but headaches and trouble with Jewel Construction. Scott showed compassion and professionalism while trying to put our fears to rest. The team Scott sent were absolutely fantastic! And he was there most days to make sure everything was started and going well. When he did leave to attend to other projects he left us in the very capable hands of his employee Brandon. This company went out of their way to make what can be a very stressful time go as smooth as possible. Any questions or concerns we had were met with immediate response and solutions. The end result is a fabulous garage as well as a dormer that was created using the existing balcony giving us extra space in our home. We are thrilled with the workmanship, professionalism, knowledge and for us the kindness and understanding of our reluctance to trust. Which Scott gave back to us. We have since recommended him to friends in our community and will certainly continue to do so. We contacted Chizld for a sagging beam in our basement in our Century home. Finding the right contractor was imperative since it's going to be the building block for the rest of the renovation that we have planned and renovations on Century homes (after reaching out to several contractors) is another type of renovation that requires a special expertise. Scott and Galen were both onsite brainstorming different ideas on how we could address the sagging beam based on our budget and preferences and explaining in layman terms each idea during the quoting stage. While on site they were on-time and more than happy to show us the work when we wanted and explained what they had done at the end of the day and if we had any questions, it was clear to me that they are passionate about their work. If I could give more stars I would and I was seriously impressed with the work done, overall cost, extra pieces of advice, timing and cleanliness. I actually believe that my basement was cleaner when they left. I would and we will hire Chizld again for renovations down the road. Tim & Ashley

I hired Galen McCue from Chizld Design to help me with some home renovations. My house was built in the 1950's and as you can imagine the walls and door frames are not square and the walls are not flush so this made tiling a bit of a challenge. Galen tiled my basement floor and bathroom, hung new doors and enclosed a very awkward opening in the downstairs bathroom - the finished result is amazing, I truly can't believe how he was able to convert such a area into a amazing living space. Galen also tiled a back-splash behind my stove, I bought a handmade Mexican tile which at the time I didn't realise that each tile was different (concave and not square) but once again he did and amazing job and it looks wonderful. Galen is a true professional, he took the time to review the job and made suggestions, he listened to what I wanted and he worked with me to complete the job to my specifications.
