The 25 words or less version: Fight for very specific language on the contract you sign, and do your own post-installation inspection. The long story is this: I was promised a lot of things in both the meet-and-greet, and in the e-mail correspondence that followed, that didn't appear anywhere on the contract that was drafted up. I raised the issue, and they happily adjusted the contract to more accurately reflect the details. And I'm glad of this, because a lot of corners were cut--5 vents were originally installed instead of 7, and I'd say about 30% of the metal flashing was done, even though the contract said "new metals, including all step-flashing, flashings and valleys are included". I was sent an invoice after the roofers had finished, and that's when I told them I was still waiting on 2 more vents to be installed. An employee came a few days later, installed the vents and completed a post-installation inspection. According to the inspection, everything looked great. I decided to climb up there myself and have a look, and I'm glad I did, because that's when I realized that the sub-wall junction flashing, valley flashing and face-wall flashing at the front of the house wasn't done. What's more, NONE of the step flashing was done. I sent them an email with photos, and spoke to an employee on the phone. Instead of an apology, I got a response something like "We have a specialized metal crew--we don't like to have our roofing crew do too much of it". Yeah...but your inspector signed off on it. That's what totally burns me. They came back and put as much of the metals on as they could. Step-flashing is impossible to put on AFTER the shingles. I was told by an employee that their roofers usually look at the state of the existing step flashing and make a call about whether or not it needs to be replaced. I guess mine looked good enough to last another round. But...then why put into the contract "Metals, including all step flashing...are included"? When I suggested they reduce the price to reflect the flashing they didn't install, they were agreeable. Don't get me wrong--they were agreeable and accommodating every time I raised a flag. I'm hopeful and optimistic that they ultimately did a good job (hence the 2 stars). They just kind of cut corners and waited to see if I noticed. Pretty unfortunate and disrespectful

I requested an appointment 2 weeks ago to have heating cables installed on a south facing roof that is prone to occasional ice-damming, and was told that Friday November 25th at 5pm is the earliest time available for a guy named Larry to come out and quote the job. I arranged to take the afternoon off work, and while fighting Black Friday traffic to get home to KW from the office in Mississauga, I received a call from AM Roofing today, Friday November 25th at 2:23pm... to let me know that they, in fact, do not install roof heating cables. As can be expected, I will NOT be contacting AM Roofing for any work in the future.

They even came round to do an additional property check after the recent snow melted. Ryan was great he took his time and did a thorough inspection of the roof and our property.

Timeline of interactions: - quote scheduled for May 13 2016 - A.M. Roofing requests to move the meeting to May 14 2016 so "Mike" can do it. - Mike cancels on the morning of May 14 2016 due to rain -> it stops raining shortly afterwards. - They try to move the meeting to May 27! Too late for us. I request a non-Mike person and they schedule a meeting for May 20 2016. - They call on May 20, hours before the meeting, to again cancel. - They do not follow up to re-schedule. Why do I have to work so hard to get a quote from you guys? Disorganized and not respectful of their customers time. Do not recommend.

Edit: Am group has tried somewhat to improve the situation they previously created for me. After trying to get a quote completed by an estimator who came out last Monday, being promised last Friday that I would receive the quote early this week, and then Tuesday being told someone would have to come out and requote the job, I have finally received a quote today as promised when another estimator came out (I was given the quote immediately on site which was nice). The person who came this time was also very friendly and knowledgeable, and apologized about the situation that has happened over the last 2 weeks. He wanted to make sure that I was left in a better position than I was before. I understand that unexpected things happen (like a person leaving the company), but I still feel they could have handled the situation much better, instead of it being a 2-week process when I was adamant about time being a concern. Also, numerous times I was told one thing on the phone and then it did not happen. AM group was VERY forward about the fact they wanted me to change my review significantly here. Because of the above, and the amount of time they wasted, I'll raise my review to 3 stars. These guys seem to be very knowledgeable, but scheduling and verbal promises seem to hold little to no value. Original review: Getting very frustrated. I was supposed to have a quote done Monday, the person called me a few minutes he was supposed to be here saying that he would have to come another day. Tuesday he came by and was very polite and helpful. I've been trying to get ahold of him or someone from AM Group since then to actually GET the completed quote, and have not heard back since. I will be going with another company because this is taking too long!

Scheduled a quote for Saturday at 1pm, they called ahead to make sure the appointment was still good for us, didn't show up. I don't appreciate having my time wasted, with no phone call or anything. For a Company that prides itself on customer service, that's not a great way to start out.

Brandon came and took a look at our roof and quickly told us we didn't need a new roof! He showed us pictures he just took of our roof and explained that ours will last another 10-15 years and suggested a small, reasonable fix in the meantime (a $300 fix to the roof caps) He also looked at our attic, explained the relationship between insulation and roofing, and deemed that it wasn't worth changing anything there either. Fabulous that a company is honest and not trying to talk you into things that you don't need. Everything was explained in a way that made sense and that showed excellent understanding of current best practice in the industry. Brandon worked to understand our needs and wants, and that was apparent and authentic in the whole experience. Highly recommended.

Even though there was no obligation to honour the earlier quote, AM Roofing did so anyway. The salesman who came out to our house was courteous and very patient with all our questions. I called AM Roofing for a quote on a new roof as I had a leak. When they went up on my roof, they noticed all that was wrong was a gap between the chimney and the metal piece and it was just a small repair. I was so relieved that it wasn't a huge job! I had also called 3 other roofing companies for quotes and only one of them even bothered to go up on the roof...and that one tried to tell me that I was in desperate need of a new roof! It's nice to know that there are still honest companies out there.

Rose, your receptionist, needs to come into the 21st century. I'm not sure where she thought it appropriate to first, second guess my knowledge of my appointment calendar (are you sure you don't have any other appointments at that time, children's activities or anything), and will my husband be home at that time because it's important he be there to have the quote presented. That interaction was frustrating but It gets better. Rose called back today (2 days later) and asked my husband if he was aware of the appointment in a couple of days and asked him to confirm the time I told him. He promptly cancelled the appointment. Before posting this, I scrolled down and saw you had a similar review about a year ago, and your response was that it was not in line with your values. It must be, or I wouldn't be leaving this review a year later.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY if you value quality and professional service. Replaced a roof and skylight at a rental property, wasn't able to inspect the finished job but was assured it was 'fantastic, you'll be really happy'. Paid the invoice in full, that was back in March. Here we are 7 months later with unresolved issues. Many emails to Roger, the CEO, and other senior staff and received one lame response from the fall guy, Larry who has since gone quiet. Too may deficiencies to mention here, but needless to say, the company couldn't care less because we made the mistake of handing over our hard earned savings. They blamed the sales rep but he wasn't the guy on the roof and he's since left. If you're in the Guelph area, can highly recommend Alpine Roofing, should have used them again but thought we'd try someone new. They don't even deserve one star rating but google doesn't allow for a minus number...

Being watched and catcalled was interesting... so was their lack of cleaning up their nails which led to two if my car's tires being destroyed and my young daughter and dog almost stepping on some.

A consultant then came the next day to quote our roof. We were very impressed with the knowledge & how they explain everything to make it all make sense. If I could rate this company a "zero star" rating I would. I am so unbelievably frustrated with this company, their quality and their response time. We had our roof replaced last October, they left a mess around the house, they left a hole on the front yard where they laid their shingles (although the driveway was open and cleared), they left mud and dirt all over the eaves and garage door, they left exposed nails, exposed plywood and sheets of shingles that are not properly laid down. The worst? Their complete lack of customer service and response time. Getting this company to respond to my concerns or come out to fix the issues is nearly impossible. I've been requesting follow up since the end last year- obviously it would have to wait until the spring, but we are now at the end of July and there are still outstanding issues. I've requested follow up inspections while I am onsite, and this has not happened. They've dropped by unannounced to resolve some issues- but still leave items outstanding. It really says a lot about their attention to detail and the integrity behind their service. I hired AM Roofing as I was looking for a professional company I could trust. I now have a roof that I am continually checking and worried about. I am actually more concerned with the new roof than the old one we replaced. I hesitate to leave such a disgruntled review, however I think others need to know what they can truly expect from this company.

Not Only did they put the wrong colour of shingles on but the people who did it took nearly a month to roof the house. There was also call back for serious deficiencies and now that I’m doing some renovations I find they didn’t put ice and water under the shingles as they claim to. Very disappointed the Better Business Bureau will hear about this shortly. Stay very far away from this roofing company

Here's what we experienced during a quote: 1) High pressure sales tactics; 2) A single number quote, i.e. no itemized break down of what we'd be paying for; 3) A really high quote, more than double any of the others we got (and don't let them tell you that you don't need more than one quote, either); and 4) When we expressed that we couldn't afford the amount quoted, we were pressured into financing the amount with them, but again without any details on interest rates or amortization schedules. My advice: be careful, and ask for details in writing if you're thinking of using this company. We didn't bother because we had better options.

We were recently informed by our insurance company that the original roof on our 20 yr. old house needed to be replaced or they would limit our coverage. I contacted AM Roofing and Chris Locke came and did an on-roof inspection. He said that the roof was in exceptional condition and would not need replacing for at least 4 years. The insurance company then requested a full written report. Chris then returned and did a free full written inspection with photos. I doubt that other companies would have been this honest. AM roofing would not provide me with a quote unless my husband was present. I was asked "whats your husbands name" when I called to request a quote and they would not schedule a visit with an estimator without having him present. They didn't even ask if I had a husband, as if I couldn't possibly need a roofing quote if I was a single women. I was told it was because he would have "different questions" then I would and he needed to be home. When I declined they said they would make a not on my file that he would not be present before sending someone out. Due to your sexist and discriminatory policies I have elected to find someone else to work with. I'd be very surprised if they asked men who called to ensure their wives are home for the estimator.

Suggest unnecessary work. Want any decision makers home for meeting. Will only book at 6pm. Prays on Naive, Elderly, and isolated. Quote is double other companies. I am not saying they do bad work. I am saying their approach is scammy. Hard sales in home are antiquated and result in very angry customers. DO NOT WAIST YOUR CLIENTS TIME.

Well it's a sad day for the customer service industry , I had a new roof installed a few years back by your team in Wasaga Beach, I was so impressed with the service and installation that I highly recommended your company to a Friend of mine in Orangeville, when this Lady called to confirm her appointment today they asked if the man of the house would be around, she asked why and the customer service rep from Guelph replied well they know more about what needs to be done... Wow, that floored me, who knew in this day and age that a company I was so happy with was sexist .. so what your telling me and the public that single women can't get new roof from your company, someone please tell me this is wrong information or please explain to me how this is even acceptable... well it saddens me to say that behavior like that just lost your company a sale, and I will not be recommending your company to anyone else I know... Sorry AM maybe it's time to vet the people answering your phones, with service like that I can only imagine the work that you've all lost..

Was quoted by sales guy and was promised to fix our eavestrough within 4-6 weeks. Never heard from the company or the sales guy. He never responded to my texts. They ended up coming over 2 months later. The sales guy also promised that they would put in an extra nail at a particular location, had it written on the contract and they never did it. I left a message to follow up and they never responded. The job itself was ok. The joints of the eavestrough could have been cleaner and communication was so poor throughout this whole process. I was very frustrated with them and do not recommend them. On another note, the sales guy was nice enough to check out our attic and then made a bunch of recommendations. Then it just so happened that I met a neighbour who is a 5 star home inspector and he made pointed out some more serious issues that the sales guy failed to point out and discounted what the sales guy had to say. It is really hard to know who to trust!! I’m glad I met my neighbour!!

After a high wind storm and a tree branch did some damage to my roof AM Roofing was quick to come out to assess the damage. Within a few days of receiving a quote from them the repairs were complete. This vent was not installed until December 16, 2015 after repeated follow-up by the customer. A trailer was used to collect shingles during the job. The front lawn was damaged by the trailer, which left deep tire marks on the lawn. We contacted AM Roofing re: repairing the front lawn and were told the shingle removal was completed by another company and AM Roofing would not accept responsibility for damage caused by their subcontractor. This damage has still not been repaired.

Contacted Larry to see about having my moms roof in Owen Sound looked at, he passed my information along to Jimmie, who promptly got ahold of me in regards to job details. He went to site location, measured, quoted and made some recommendations, Mom was thrilled so went ahead with project. Very impressed with both these guys for setting things up for my Mom, also she thought the crew who did the job were awesome! They were courteous and “hilarious” (moms words) and they did excellent work. Thanks AM roofing for getting this job done, and ahead of schedule to accommodate for a much needed fixed leak they had!
